Manual Transmission. When to change the oil at the Getz gearbox

It is necessary to check the oil level in the gearbox every 15,000 km of run, as well as if oil leaks are found on the crater of the gearbox.

We carry out the work on a flyover or observation ditch.

We check the oil level through the control (filler) hole, which is located in front of the gearbox housing.

Clean the gearbox housing around the inspection hole with a rag.

Using a spanner wrench or a "17" head, we loosen the tightening of the filler plug.

We finally unscrew the plug by hand.

A metal sealing washer is installed under the plug.

Replace the defective washer with a new one.

The gearbox oil level should be at the bottom edge of the filler hole, which can be checked with a finger.

If necessary ...

… Fill the gearbox with a syringe to fill the transmission oil up to the lower edge of the hole (oil will start to flow out of the hole).

When excess oil flows out, remove oil drips with a rag.

We wrap the plug with a torque of 30-42 N ∙ m.

It is necessary to change the oil in the gearbox every 90 thousand kilometers.

Before changing the oil, warm it up by driving a car for at least 10 km. It is best to schedule an oil change after a long trip.

We clean the gearbox housing around the drain and filler holes.

We put a container with a volume of at least 2.5 liters under the drain hole.

Using a spanner wrench or a "24" head, we loosen the tightening of the drain plug ...

... and finally unscrew the plug by hand.

We drain the oil into the substituted container.

The connection between the plug and the gearbox housing is sealed with a metal washer.

If necessary, replace the drain plug sealing washer with a new one. We clean the plug magnet and wrap the plug with a torque of 35-45 N ∙ m. Use the 17 key to unscrew the filler plug. Fill the gearbox with a syringe to the required level and wrap the plug (see above).

Oil change in manual transmission - logbook Hyundai Getz GLS 2007 on DRIVE2

On the threshold of TO 90, it's time to change the oil in the box. The filled original oil, semi-synthetics 85W-90, I decided to change to synthetics 75W-90, also original.

HYUNDAI / KIA Oil, 75W-90: 043005L1A0

Let's start changing the oil. To begin with, surfing the Internet, I tried to find a normal manual, which shows the drain and filler hole for the oil in the manual transmission. Having found several photographs, but did not understand all the coordinates, I had to climb and look for myself. Perhaps someone will come in handy.

We substitute the container, take the knob (key) for 24 and unscrew the drain bolt. Oil begins to drain, dark in color, smelly ... :)

After the oil is drained, we unscrew the filler bolt and make the filler pipe. I got it like this - stupid, simple, but effective :)

We place it under the hood, insert the pipe into the filler hole.

This is necessary in order to wash out deposits and old black, dirty oil from the very bottom of the box. I also advise you to do this when changing the engine oil.

After clean oil has flowed from the drain hole of the box, we take the cork and remove shavings and small particles from it. There is a magnet in the gearbox oil drain bolts, which collects all small metal particles that appear in the oil during operation.

After that, we wrap the plug and pour oil under the neck of the filler hole.

The total volume of the filled oil is ~ 2.2 - 2.4 liters.

3.28 Checking the transmission oil level in the manual gearbox

Checking the transmission oil level in the manual transmission

Checking the transmission oil level in the manual transmission (after 30,000 or 24 months) *

On early models, the transmission fluid level dipstick is located at the front of the transmission and does not require jacking up to gain access. Manual Transmission Filler, Level, and Drain Plug Locations (Late Models)

1. Press the spring clip aside, then remove the dipstick.

2. Wipe the dipstick dry and reinsert it full length. Remove the dipstick and check that the transmission oil level is between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick.

3. On late models, jack up the front and rear parts of the car and install it on axle supports (refer to Section Jacking, towing and wheel change). 4. Make sure the vehicle is level. Remove the left wheel to access the plug on the side of the transmission.

5. Wipe clean around the plug that is located on the side of the transmission behind the left drive shaft.

6. Unscrew the plug and wipe dry. The gear oil level should reach the bottom edge of the hole. A small amount of gear oil will collect behind the level plug and leak out when the plug is removed, this does not necessarily indicate that the oil level is correct. Wait until the trickle stops to make sure the oil level is correct.
7. If you need to add gear oil, wipe the area around the filler plug located on the top of the gearbox. Unscrew the plug and wipe it clean.
8. Add the required amount of oil until the level reaches the upper mark on the dipstick on earlier models, or until a steady stream of oil is seen coming out of the level hole on later models. Use only high quality gear oil of the correct type. A funnel should be used to make it easier to pour the gear oil into the filler hole.

9. When the oil reaches the required level, reinstall and tighten the filler plug and, where necessary, the level plug. Tightening should be done with a torque wrench with the required torque. Collect all traces of spilled oil. 10. Where removal was required, reinstall the left front wheel and lower the vehicle to the ground.

The Hyundai Getz is once Hyundai's most affordable model, first introduced in 2002. It is a five-door hatchback, also known for a three-door body. The Getz is the first Hyundai car developed by the European division of the Korean brand. Thanks to this, the car received a successful design and became relevant not only in Europe, but also in the USA, Canada, Malaysia, India, Egypt, Venezuela and other regions. It was the most popular Hyundai car in the first and second half of the 2000s. The car received several designations. For example, in Korea, the name Hyundai Click was relevant. At the same time, the motor range was almost the same regardless of the sales market. So, the basic versions received gasoline engines with a volume of 1.1, 1.3 and 1.6 liters, with a capacity of 62-105 liters. with. A 1.5-liter diesel engine with 82 hp was also available. with.

In Russia, the car was relevant with 1.3 and 1.6 liter engines. Basic configurations received a manual transmission, and the most top-end versions were offered with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Restyling took place in 2005. As a result of the modernization, the car received an updated exterior and interior design, as well as additional equipment - for example, a stabilization system. The power of the 1.1 and 1.6 liter engines increased, and the 1.3-liter ICE was replaced by a 1.4-liter unit with 97 liters. with. Instead of a three-cylinder diesel engine, a 4-cylinder internal combustion engine with a volume of 1.5 liters (88-110 hp) appeared. After the renovation, cars with a three-door body and a 1.1-liter engine arrived in Russia. In 2010, Hyundai Solaris left the assembly line, giving way to the more modern Hyundai i20.

Consider the required amount of oil in the Hyundai Getz manual transmission.

Generation 1 (1002-2011)

  • The volume of oil in a manual transmission with a 1.1 - 2.15 liter engine.
  • The volume of oil in a manual transmission with an engine 1.3 - 2.15 liters.

What oil is required for a Hyundai Getz manual transmission

Let's pay attention to the characteristics of the engine oil for the Hyundai Getz manual transmission.

Generation 1 (1002-2011)

  • Oil in manual transmission with engine 1.1 - MTF 75W-90 GL4; BP EnerGear 75W-90.
  • Oil in manual transmission with engine 1.3 - MTF 75W-90 GL4; BP EnerGear 75W-90.
  • Oil in manual transmission with engine 1.4 - MTF 75W-90 GL4; BP EnerGear 75W-90.
  • Oil in manual transmission with 1.5 engine - MTF 75W-90 GL4; BP EnerGear 75W-90.
  • Oil in manual transmission with 1.6 engine - MTF 75W-90 GL4; BP EnerGear 75W-90.

The procedure for changing the oil in a manual transmission on a Hyundai Getz does not require professional skills. The car manufacturer Hyundai Getz called the recommended replacement time - 75 thousand kilometers or after 5 years of vehicle operation. In Russian realities, such a period is reduced to 40-60 thousand kilometers.

Why is it necessary to change the oil in the manual transmission?

Any oil in a car (engine or manual transmission) consists of a standard oil fluid and additional additives. The quality of the oil is determined by the chemical composition, and the additives serve to improve the performance in a particular case.

The main functions of oils: lubrication of integral moving parts, which form friction with each other. Additional function: dissipation of heat that occurs as a result of this friction.

The main reason for changing the oil is the loss of performance of the additives. Over time, the components lose their properties and cease to provide high-quality protection of working nodes. After a few hundred kilometers, a hum will begin to be emitted from the box, and after a certain number of kilometers traveled, the box will jam. Therefore, the periodic replacement of the car oil in the manual transmission with the Hyundai Getz is a mandatory procedure.

Oil leak and breakage

List of causes of oil leakage from the gearbox of Hyundai Getz:

  • Damaged oil seals... An increased working pressure forms inside the manual transmission, which affects the oil seals. They wear out gradually. Cracks are formed through which the oil comes out. Solution: replace the oil seal and eliminate the increased operating pressure in the system;
  • Input shaft wear... The result is the appearance of a backlash, through the holes of which an oily liquid begins to flow. The box is completely disassembled. The condition is assessed. Solution: replace the shaft or install an additional gasket (depending on the amount of backlash);
  • The tightness of the connections is insufficient... Check all connections for stains. Solution: replace the seal if you find that there is no sealing of the connecting parts;
  • Oil drain plug or dipstick... Solution: the plug must be screwed on or the O-ring changed. The dipstick must be installed correctly according to the vehicle operating instructions.

The process of changing the oil in the manual transmission

List of required tools:

  • Set of wrenches;
  • Hex key set;
  • Pharmacy syringe;
  • Pliers;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Container for draining the waste liquid.

Step-by-step instructions for draining old oil from a manual transmission Hyundai Getz:

Washing the pallet in the manual transmission on Hyundai Getz is carried out with special chemical compounds and using a metal brush. To do this, unscrew the oil pan, drain the residual amount of auto oil and clean it of metal shavings and other debris.

Step-by-step instructions for filling oil in manual transmissions in Hyundai Getz:

  1. Remove the dipstick from the filler plug.
  2. Pour oil into the hole using a funnel.
  3. After 3 liters of liquid, insert the dipstick back, pull it out and look at the level. If necessary, you will have to add lubricant.

Note: For simple Hyundai Getz models, check the oil level and fill it through the gearbox housing. You can also use a pharmacy syringe or a special device for this.

After filling with oil, the plug closes and you need to drive about 10 kilometers. The level of the filled liquid is checked again. If it is not enough, it is necessary to top up a little. If the level is normal, the process of replacing the car oil in the manual transmission with the Hyundai Getz is completed.

According to the technical regulations, oil is poured into the Hyundai Solaris gearbox for the entire service life of the car. Depending on the type of gearbox, the oil level is checked at different periods and according to different methods. In order not to bring the gearbox to expensive repairs, we will check the oil level on time and correctly.

Filling with new oil through the dipstick.

When servicing any of the gearboxes, automatic or manual, a filling syringe is very useful, since it is hardly possible to add or replace oil with a simple funnel. Unless you have to construct an extension cord for the neck of the funnel from a hose.

The level of the transmission in the automatic transmission is checked at least after 60,000 km, but it is advisable to do this more often, and an oil change may be necessary after repair of the gearbox or wear of the transmission fluid.

Algorithm

The check is carried out in the following order:

  1. We warm up the engine to operating temperature, the engine should be warmed up to 70-80 degrees, and the check is carried out no later than 10-15 minutes after the engine stops.
  2. We install the car on a level surface and, with the engine running, set the automatic transmission selector to position N or P.
  3. Carefully wipe the area near the probe with a rag. This is to prevent debris from getting into the box.
  4. We turn off the engine and when the oil drains into the automatic transmission pan, remove the dipstick from the crankcase.

    The automatic transmission dipstick is marked with a red arrow.

  5. We diagnose the condition of the oil. To do this, take a white napkin and blot the probe. The oil should be transparent, in the event that it has darkened, has a burning smell, if small solid particles remain on the napkin, it is advisable to replace the oil. If there are small brown fractions, suspension, this will indicate increased wear of the clutches.

    This is what pure oil looks like.

  6. Top up if necessary.

    Add oil to the automatic transmission if necessary. Here it is.

  7. We wipe the dipstick with a clean cloth and put it back in place, into the tube to the end. Now we control the oil level. Normal level - there is an oil film between the two NOT marks. If the oil level is low, it must be topped up. It is important not only to observe the optimal level, but also not to exceed it, since there is a risk of accelerated wear of oil seals and automatic transmission mechanisms.

If the level is checked on a cold motor, then the oil level must be between the two "cold" marks C... The principle is the same - if the level is below the norm, top up without exceeding the permissible value.

Oil type

Automatic transmission oil of ATF SP-III standard.

The oil used in the Solaris automatic transmission is of the ATF SP-III standard of any manufacturer.

Oil in manual transmission.

The manual transmission uses standard oil SAE 75W-90(original - HYUNDAI GENUINE PARTS MTF 75W-90 ), according to the standard of applicability API - GL4.

Algorithm

The check is carried out as follows:

The normal level is at the bottom of the plug thread. If, after removing the plug, no oil appears, check for the presence of oil with a thin screwdriver or finger, if necessary, top up with a filling syringe.

Check plug close up.

Pay attention to the aluminum sealing gasket on the plug - if it is strongly compressed, it must be replaced. We tighten the control hole plug.

This way you can quickly check the gearbox oil level yourself and top up if necessary. Good luck with your work and pleasant travel!

Transmission identification number

Transmission identification number H51973 337661 stands for as follows: N- type (H: M5AF3); 5 - year of issue (2005); 1973 - code of the gear ratio of the main drive (1973: gear ratio 3.842; 2073: gear ratio 3.650; 337661 - serial number (000001-999999) Gearboxes of 1.3 l and 1.6 l engines differ in the gear ratios of the final drive.

The gearbox converts the torque transmitted from the engine in magnitude and direction. This is necessary to ensure the optimal speed and cross-country ability of the vehicle, as well as for the most economical operation of the engine and the movement of the vehicle in reverse. In addition, the gearbox decouples the engine and transmission when the vehicle is stopped and parked and when the vehicle is coasting with the engine running.

The gearbox parts are housed in a crankcase which is bolted to the rear of the Hyundai Getz engine.

The torque from the engine is transmitted through the clutch to the gearbox input shaft. The output shaft of the gearbox transmits torque through the differential to the drive shafts. The gear is switched on by moving the synchronizer sliding sleeve, as a result of which the gear is rigidly connected to the gearbox shaft.

The gearbox is a very complex unit and its repair must be carried out in a specialized workshop, therefore this chapter only covers the removal and installation of the gearbox.

To remove the gearbox, the vehicle must be raised and secured in this position. It is also necessary to use a stationary jack.
