Is Nissan Terrano a competitor to Duster? Is there a difference between the restyled Renault Duster and the Nissan Terrano The complete set of the new Nissan Terrano.

In August 2013, at a car show in Mumbai, Nissan held a public presentation of the "third Terrano" - a budget compact crossover, which is a redesigned and slightly more prestigious version of the French Renault Duster SUV. Initially, the car was developed specifically for the Indian market, but in April 2014 it reached Russia.

In the spring of 2016, the Japanese got around to updating their most affordable off-road vehicle - they did not touch the exterior of the five-door, but they noticeably changed the interior, slightly “pumped” the engines, added a new modification to the range and simultaneously increased the price tag.

Outwardly, the "Japanese" is much prettier than his French "brother". If the Duster looks like a typical budget car interspersed with individual "non-budget" elements, then the exterior of the Nissan Terrano is noticeably richer, brighter and more attractive. It really looks like a car of a higher class, which may well attract the attention of a separate part of Russian motorists, for whom design is an important detail.

The exterior of the "third Terrano" received a sufficient amount of aggression, expressed through the predatory gaze of the front optics, a massive radiator grille and sharp contours of the bumper, dissecting oncoming air flows. The feed of the new Terrano looks much more attractive than that of the Duster: a different bumper, a refined tailgate and stylish lights give the new image a complete look of a modern crossover that can harmoniously fit into the Nissan lineup on equal terms with other models.

The length of the Nissan Terrano is 4342 mm, its height is 1668 mm, and the width fits into 1822 mm. The wheelbase of the car has 2,674 mm, and the ground clearance indicator depends on the version: in the front-wheel drive version it is 205 mm, and in the all-wheel drive version - 210 mm. In the "stowed" form, the SUV weight varies from 1248 to 1434 kg.

Salon "Terrano" (pictured above: on the left "pre-styling 2014-2015", on the right "updated in 2016", below "updated in 2017") inexpensive and well-known all from the same "Duster" - the steering wheel is "chubby" and enough a large, driver's "toolkit" with three shallow "wells" is informative and clear, and the sheer center console with an audio system unit (in "top-end" configurations with a 7 "touchscreen multimedia display) and three" washers "of the climate system is pretty in appearance, but not devoid of ergonomic miscalculations. Finishing materials in the crossover are budgetary everywhere, although the glossy insert on the dashboard and the silver "decor" under the metal add a bit of nobility to the interior.

The five-seater decoration of the "third" Nissan Terrano is quite spacious, but the seats themselves are simple and flat, and on the first row there is practically no lateral support (while the adjustment ranges are not satisfactory).

The luggage compartment of the SUV is comfortable and roomy: its standard volume is 408 liters for the all-wheel drive version and 475 liters for the front-wheel drive version. The rear row of seats folds in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the usable capacity to 1570 and 1646 liters, respectively. A full-size spare wheel and a set of tools are hidden in the underground niche of the “hold”.

Specifications. The range of engines available for the Nissan Terrano on the Russian market combines two gasoline engines that meet the European Euro-4 standard and are also used at the Duster.

  • By default, the crossover is equipped with a four-cylinder 1.6-liter unit with in-line "pots", distributed power technology and 16-valve DOHC-type timing, developing 114 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 156 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm.
It mates with "mechanics" for five or six gears (in the first case with front-wheel drive, and in the second - with full) and allows the car to accelerate to the first "hundred" in 10.9-12.5 seconds and gain 166-167 km / h "maximum speed ". In the combined travel mode, fuel consumption ranges from 7.4 to 7.6 liters, depending on the modification.
  • A more productive option is a 2.0-liter in-line "four" (1998 cubic centimeters), equipped with a distributed fuel supply and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which has 143 "horses" of power at 5750 rpm and 195 Nm of peak thrust at 4000 rpm. Unlike the "younger brother", the engine is combined with a 6-speed manual transmission or 4-range automatic transmission, as well as an exclusively all-wheel drive transmission. The sprint up to 100 km / h for the crossover takes 10.7-11.5 seconds, the speed threshold is 174-180 km / h, and the "appetite" in mixed conditions does not exceed 7.8-8.7 liters for each "hundred".

The platform for the third "release" Nissan Terrano uses the Renault Duster chassis with a transversely oriented power plant. At the front, the monocoque body rests on a standard independent structure with McPherson struts and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, front-wheel drive vehicles use a semi-independent architecture with a torsion beam, and all-wheel drive vehicles use a multi-link complex with coil springs.
The steering system on the off-road vehicle is a rack and pinion type with a hydraulic booster, and a brake package with ventilated discs on the front and "drums" on the rear axle. All-wheel drive technology (All Mode 4 × 4) on the "Japanese" is based on a typical for "state employees" scheme with an electromagnetic multi-plate clutch that activates the rear axle when the front wheels slip.

Options and prices. Russian buyers "Terrano" 2017 is offered in the versions Comfort, Elegance, Elegance Plus and Tekna.
The basic configuration, estimated at 855,000 rubles, includes: two airbags, air conditioning, power steering, ABS, front power windows, a height-adjustable steering column, a standard audio system with four speakers, steel discs and roof rails.
The all-wheel drive version of the crossover cannot be bought for less than 925,000 rubles, for a solution with an automatic transmission they ask for a minimum of 1,079,000 rubles, and for a "top-end" modification you will have to pay no less than 1,150,000 rubles. The most "stuffed" car is very richly equipped: four airbags, ABS, ESP, leather interior, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, a multimedia center, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear-view camera and much more.

With the introduction of the new Terrano on the market, it has become the most affordable crossover in the Japanese automaker's lineup. Despite the obvious similarity with, as well as the use of a common base, Terrano is positioned as a car of a higher class. The Japanese offer richer trim levels for their crossover, expressive exterior design and improved interior materials. At the same time, the technical characteristics remained the same as those of the Duster.

Exterior Nissan Terrano 2015

Examining the new crossover from Nissan, you need to pay tribute to the Japanese designers. The fruit of their work actually looks richer and more respectable than its relative. Sharp forms of the front part of the body, impressive size, slightly sloping, headlights, as well as the successful use of V-shaped elements in the design of the front end and the successful use of chrome inserts, make a positive impression at first glance. The rear of the vehicle is also styled with straight lines and chrome accents to complete the exterior.

Nissan Terrano is somewhat larger in size than the crossover from Renault. However, the point is in more massive bumpers.

  • Length - 4342 mm
  • Body width - 1822 mm
  • Wheelbase length - 2674 mm
  • Height - 1668 mm
  • Gross weight - 1726 kg

The maximum ground clearance is 210 mm, which is valid only for the all-wheel drive version. The front-wheel drive ground clearance is 205 mm. The total weight of the novelty is 1726 kg.

Interior Nissan Terrano 2015

The driver's seat pleases with good lateral support, which greatly contributes to travel comfort. On the dashboard - nothing more. There is a standard set of tachometer, on-board computer monitor and speedometer.

Slightly spoils the impression of a thin steering wheel, with no corrugations. The center console houses the climate controls in the cabin, the audio system and the four-wheel drive switching unit. Although the general interior design, it still betrays that the car belongs to the budget class. The luggage compartment volume is equal to 425 and 408 liters for the front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions, respectively.

Nissan Terrano engines

An engine that meets Euro 4 standards is available as a basic option. Its volume is 1.6 liters, and the power is 102 horses. Available for both front wheel drive and all wheel drive. Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed gearbox version with all-wheel drive.

Also available to buyers is a 2-liter gasoline engine with a maximum power of 130 horses. As a transmission, a 4-speed "automatic" and a 6-speed manual box are available.

Combined fuel consumption is 7.6 and 8.2 liters for cars equipped with a 1.6 liter engine.

Complete set of the new Nissan Terrano

The crossover is presented in 4 trim levels:

  • Comfort
  • Elegance
  • Elegance Plus
  • Tekna

Already in the base, the crossover boasts an air conditioner, an audio system with 4 speakers, front ESP, airbags, a Bluetooth system, an immobilizer, and a central locking system with remote control. The equipment also includes active safety systems ESP and ABS, steel engine guards, body-colored bumpers, 16-inch steel wheels and a power steering wheel.

In the Elegance package an on-board computer, heated driver and passenger seats, fog lights and electric side mirrors are added. In addition, the car receives a chrome bumper package, silver roof rails and moldings that match the body color.

In the top-end version of Tekna, the manufacturer adds a leather interior, including a steering wheel, a rear-view camera, 16-inch alloy wheels, an ESP for the rear windows, a driver's seat lift, a multimedia system with a large touchscreen display, as well as tinted windows and parking sensors.

Smoothness and handling of the Nissan Terrano

For its class, the car shows pretty good handling. The lightweight clutch pedal and the precise operation of the gearbox leave only positive impressions. Good noise insulation of the cabin, almost completely protects passengers from noise on the street. Excellent energy intensity of the suspension, allows you to "swallow" solid pits and bumps, which is important given the "off-road" nature of the new Terrano. Short overhangs and high ground clearance make it relatively safe to ride off-road, unless, of course, go too far. Still, do not forget that before a full-fledged SUV, a car lacks its characteristics.

However, good off-road feel comes at a price on the pavement. At high speed, there is some "uncertainty" in the course. Vibrations go through the body, shocks from the wheels become palpable. When cornering, swinging with rolls appears. However, no one designed the Nissan Terrano for high speeds. And with his tasks, he copes perfectly well.

Summing up, we can say that the car will take its rightful place both among the Nissan model line and among classmates of crossovers. Thanks to its expressive appearance, as well as good configurations, Terrano will definitely find its customers. And the fact that the car is sold under the Nissan brand gives it additional advantages in the fight against competitors.

Those who want to buy an inexpensive and functional crossover have always had a question of choosing between Renault Duster and its Japanese counterpart Nissan Terrano. If until recently everything was clear, you do not want to overpay for the brand, then your choice is definitely Duster, but if the brand is important to you and you want something "fresher", then your choice is Terrano. In 2015, a restyled version of the French crossover Renaul Duster, popular in Russia, went on sale on the Russian market, and now the question of choosing between these two models is more acute than ever. each of the cars has its own pros and cons. Today we will try to figure out what changes the restyled Duster has received and whether it has become better than Terrano.

As representatives of the company assure, the restyled car has received a slightly changed appearance, which has become more attractive. The list of external modifications includes a chrome grille, front and rear bumpers, optics, and wheels. Moreover, now potential owners have a wider selection of body colors and the choice of black wheels. New finishing materials have appeared in the cabin, and most importantly, the cabin has become much quieter, this was achieved thanks to the use of modern noise insulation materials, although those who want there to be no extraneous noise in the car will have to do noise insulation on their own because this is not a business class. The manufacturers also took into account the complaints of the owners about the uncomfortable seats and replaced them with new ones with improved lateral support and a longer seat. For those who often use the trunk, there is also good news, finally, the hated soft curtain has been replaced with a hard shelf that follows the door when you open it. Finishing our acquaintance with the interior of the restyled Duster, which will go on sale on the Russian market in July 2015, it is worth paying attention to the new infotainment system.

The updated multimedia received an increased amount of RAM twice, although the speed of operation of the navigation system caused complaints, but it instantly connects with external devices.

Detailed review and test drive of the new restyled Renault Duster 2015

And now we propose to talk about the most important thing in the car, namely the technical component, which has undergone a number of improvements. First of all, the entire line of engines now meets the requirements of "Euro 5", and secondly, the French crossover was equipped with a new 1.6 liter gasoline engine, which is also installed on some Nissan models (Tiisa and Sentra), does this mean that this engine will be installed on Terrano in the future? , It's not clear yet. The only drawback of the engine can be called the Russian assembly, although in connection with the latest changes at AvtoVAZ, you can not worry about the Russian assembly. The power of this engine has grown compared to its predecessor, now the 1.6-liter engine produces 114 hp. and 156 Nm of torque, while, according to the manufacturers, they managed to reduce consumption to 7.6 liters per 100 km. Another innovation was the presence of a modified mechanical five-speed gearbox with extended gears, which will allow you to work less with the gearshift knob and clutch when traveling in the city. Such a box is installed on the front-wheel drive versions of the Duster. The most powerful 2.0-liter gasoline engine received an increase in power of 8 hp. (up to 143 hp), an increase in power was achieved due to phase shifters. A much larger increase in power was received by the 1.6 liter diesel engine, from now on its power is 109 forces and 240 Nm of torque, an excellent choice for those who want to drive dynamically and economically.

And now we actually propose to move on to a direct comparison of the new Duster and Terrano.

We will not describe the detailed differences between cars (you can read about this), but we will only list the main ones. External ones consist in the presence of a different radiator grille, front and rear optics, in the design of the wheels, and of the Renault / Nissan logos itself. Inside, cars differ in the design of the steering wheel, the dashboard, the shape of the air ducts and the compartment for small things.

As for the technical component and price, the price of the new Duster ranges from 584,000 rubles and reaches 918,000 rubles, while the price of Terrano fluctuates around 811,000 - 1,024,000 rubles. You can find out about the available equipment.

conclusions

What conclusions can be drawn from all this? The main advantages of Terrano over Duster, with the advent of the restyled version, practically disappear. If earlier a more interesting appearance, improved noise insulation and the prestige of the brand could be attributed to the piggy bank of a crossover with a Japanese nameplate, in today's realities Duster is already in no way inferior in design and even surpasses, the sound insulation of the restyled model has become better and that's not all. The Duster received comfortable seats and a modified engine lineup. Moreover, the unconditional advantages of the French model are the presence of a version with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which Terrano cannot boast of so far. And the most important thing is the financial costs of the purchase and further maintenance, whatever one may say, but in today's situation it can serve as one of the main reasons to give an advantage when choosing a purchase. Let's look forward to what the Nissan Terrano will answer, an updated version of which is rumored to appear at the end of 2016.

The basis of the 2015 Nissan Terrano in a new body is taken from the car of Renault's companion, Duster, so the technical characteristics of both cars are very similar. So, the line of power plants practically duplicates the French manufacturer. Diesel engines are an exception. The Japanese manufacturer decided to abandon them. Both gasoline units "migrated" from Duster to Terrano.

Engines

It is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder 102-horsepower petrol unit. Together with it, a 5- or 6-speed manual transmission is installed. The first transmission option is typical for front-wheel drive vehicles, the second for all-wheel drive vehicles. Fuel consumption of the Nissan Terrano with such an engine is about 8.2 liters (all-wheel drive) or 7.6 liters (front-wheel drive) in mixed mode.

The second version of the power plant is a 4-cylinder 2-liter 135-horsepower gasoline engine. It is paired with a 4-speed automatic (front-wheel drive) or a 6-speed manual transmission on all-wheel drive vehicles.

Dimensions, dimensions, ground clearance

An overview of the technical characteristics of the new 2015 Nissan Terrano 2 would be incomplete without a description of the overall dimensions. The Japanese crossover is superior in this respect to its French "relative". Machine length 4 342 mm with a height of 1 668 and a width of 1 822 mm. The special pride of the Nissan Terrano is not only the size, but also the ground clearance (ground clearance). 205 mm with front-wheel drive and 210 with all-wheel drive.

The trunk volume of the Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster are the same. 408 liters with all-wheel drive and 475 for the front-wheel drive variant. The folded backs of the rear seats increase this figure to 1,570 and 1,636 liters, respectively.

Many people remember the previous Nissan Terrano models. These were medium-sized SUVs with a continuous beam of the rear axle. They had amazing cross-country ability and rather impressive dimensions. The first generation went into mass production back in 1986. It was a heavy SUV with a monocoque frame, independent front suspension and a classic continuous rear axle.

Nissan Terrano history.

The car was originally a three-door design and was marketed as "Pathfinder" in the US market. The production of an SUV in this form continued until 1996, when a restyled model came out, which in fact had a rigid frame, a rear continuous axle and a transfer case equipped with a differential lock.

Since 2005, the Pathfinder and Terrano models have diverged. The latter received the Navara platform. This was at a time when none of the developers thought so seriously about the fuel efficiency of off-road vehicles. But today the conditions of the global automotive market, as well as more stringent environmental requirements, are making their own adjustments. AND updated SUV Terrano 2014-2015 received a fundamentally new chassis and instead of the classic SUV became (SUV).

Thanks to the merger of the French and Japanese companies, the Renault-Nissan concern was formed. As a result of this merger, the new Nissan Terrano received a common platform with the French mid-range crossover Renault Duster. Now Terrano from a technical point of view is actually a replica of Renault Duster.

Specifications Nissan Terrano 2014-2015.

Earlier in complete set of the SUV Nissan Terrano there were diesel engines. Currently, a gasoline engine is installed as the base power unit. 1.6 liter engine developing a maximum power of 102 hp. Transmission - mechanical five-speed in the front-wheel drive version and six-speed in the all-wheel drive. This engine provides the car with rather mediocre dynamic characteristics: 12 seconds to 100 km / h for front-wheel drive and 14 seconds for all-wheel drive versions. In this case, the car consumes, respectively, 7.6 and 8.2 liters per 100 km, depending on the type of transmission in the mixed driving cycle. The 1.6-liter power unit allows the car to reach speeds of up to 160 km / h.

More powerful 2L engine develops up to 135 km / h. It is paired with a four-speed torque converter gearbox for the front-wheel drive transmission. For all-wheel drive, only a six-speed "mechanics" is still available. The dynamics of acceleration to 100 km / h with a two-liter engine is already 10.4 and 11.2 seconds, respectively. At the same time, gasoline consumption, depending on the type of transmission, is 7.8 and 8.3 liters per 100 km with the same combined driving cycle. The maximum speed of a car equipped with such power units is up to 170 km / h. The installation of a diesel engine in the new Terrano is not yet foreseen. But, nevertheless, there is hope that diesel will again appear in the line of power units.

Features of the new Terrano.

With overall dimensions of 4331 x 1822 x 1671 mm, the wheelbase is 2674 mm, and ground clearance - as much as 205 mm... Such dimensions provide the new Terrano with good axle weight distribution, stability and good cross-country ability even in the front-wheel drive modification.

Design.

The external design of the car, even if it is similar to, is still very different from the latter in the direction of greater severity and even some pomp. The appearance of the new Terrano has many of the features of the popular Nissan X-Trail and even the more expensive and comfortable Nissan Pathfinder, but is not at all like. However, the car does not look like a replica at all. He has his own charisma. Modern rounded side embossing, large rear optics and door design make Terrano very different from its predecessor in the direction of stylish, modern and even, to some extent, original appearance.

The front of the car is a kind of visiting card of the Japanese company. Several slanting headlights, a large radiator grill and a massive bumper look much more advantageous than on the French counterpart. Thanks to its design, the car looks larger and more spacious than the Duster. And the more reinforced suspension and ground clearance allow the new Terrano to compete with many modern crossovers on light off-roading.

Behavior on the road.

With regard to handling, alas, there are no significant improvements in comparison with the French crossover. The car also has slight roll in corners, but improved suspension settings make it more stable. The steering is also pretty informative. Thanks to him, the car unquestioningly obeys the driver at almost all speed modes, responsive to all movements of the steering wheel. The only drawback is the transmission of shocks and vibrations to the steering wheel when driving on a bumpy road.

Interior.

Salon Terrano also compares favorably with its French donor. The front panel has a more modern and even chic look than the Duster. All the materials used in the interior trim are of high quality, but still rather rustic for a car in this price range.

Ergonomics of the salon Nissan Terrano 2014-2015 also made at a height. The layout of the controls and instruments is very well thought out and located in convenient locations. Adjustments to the steering column and driver's seat allow you to set the most comfortable position for a driver of any height and build.

Quite large pockets in the door trim allow you to place large enough items there, for example, plastic water bottles.

The luggage compartment is 475 liters, which also allows you to transfer rather large luggage without folding the rear seats.

Prices and configuration of the new Nissan Terrano.

The cost of Nissan Terrano starts at 680,000 rubles. It seems that own price is the main disadvantage of the car. For this money, the buyer is offered a front-wheel drive version with a 102-horsepower gasoline engine.

Also available in the specified configuration:

  • ABS system,
  • immobilizer,
  • front airbags,
  • front power windows,
  • multimedia system with the ability to play tracks MP-3.

In the most expensive configuration, the car has:

  • 2-liter engine, paired with a six-speed "mechanics",
  • all-wheel drive transmission with an electric coupling for connecting the rear axle,
  • 16 '' light alloy wheels.

Such a complete set will cost the buyer 885,000 rubles.
