Astra h sedan. Opel Astra H: family specifications

Considering the technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H, it is necessary to take into account variations: more than 5 different engine sizes, a sedan, a station wagon, two hatchbacks and a convertible, 3 configurations.

Opel Astra H - specifications for the whole family

The technical characteristics of the Opel Astra H cannot be described in one paragraph. Because the Astra H is not just one car, it's a whole family. A line of at least 5 vehicles. Identical at first glance, but different in essence, in their driving performance, appearance and size.

Astra H began to be produced in 2004. In 2007, experienced a slight restyling. The technical characteristics of the engines have undergone changes. They have become more powerful, economical and environmentally friendly. The front bumper, mirrors, and some trim elements have also changed. Astra H is still being produced, in a station wagon, sedan or 5-door hatchback, but already under the name Astra Family.

Body and chassis Opel Astra H

The body line has a rich choice: sedan, station wagon, 5-door hatchback, 3-door GTC hatchback, and Astra TwinTop convertible coupe. The technical characteristics of the various body types of the Opel Astra are similar, but there are differences. The wheelbase of the sedan and station wagon is 2703 mm, and the hatchback and convertible are 2614 mm.

The turning radius is about the same for everyone, about 11 m. The trunk volumes of the sedan and station wagon are surprisingly the same, 490 liters each. The 5-door hatchback has 375 liters, the GTC has 340 liters and the convertible has 205 liters. The volume of the gas tank on all Opel Astra is 52 liters.

The front suspension in the Astra H is MacPherson linkage, with telescopic struts, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar. The rear suspension in Opel Astra cars is semi-independent, lever-spring with trailing arms.

Options Opel Astra H

There are 3 trim levels on Astra H: Essentia, Enjoy, Cosmo. The simplest - Essentia, includes a steering wheel trimmed with leather, air conditioning, heated front seats. Enjoy adds climate control and a light sensor. Cosmo - the maximum configuration, boasts 16-inch alloy wheels, a rain sensor, seats with eco-leather inserts. Also available for the 3-door hatchback is an option with a panoramic roof. Available only on the GTC hatchback, the OPC trim adds sporty body kits, 17-inch wheels and Recaro seats. Also, station wagons and sedans have additional cigarette lighters in the trunk to install a refrigerator in the trunk. In 2008, it was possible to purchase a version of the Astra H Limousine, but only on order, from Germany.

Technical equipment and Specifications Opel Astra H

The least powerful, but at the same time the most reliable engine offered for the third Astra is a four-cylinder gear with a volume of 1.4 liters. The power of the sixteen-valve 1.4 Opel is 90 horsepower.

The Astra H engine range includes two 1.6 petrol engines. The first produces 105hp, and the power of the second is 10 horsepower higher - 115 horsepower. On 1.6 engines, with a mileage exceeding 40,000 km, vibration was noticed at a speed in the range of 2,500 - 3,000, as a rule, this unpleasant moment is associated with the variable valve timing system.

1.8L engines produce 125 and 140 horsepower. Power plants with a volume of 1.8 liters with a run of 70,000 suffer from leakage of the camshaft oil seal, and the front crankshaft oil seal may also leak. Also, on engines with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, with runs over 50,000 km, the camshaft gear may jam. As a rule, before this, when starting the engine, a rattle is heard for a length of 2-3 seconds.

The most powerful gasoline units are 2.0L turbocharged engines. Their power: 170, 200 and 240 hp.

Turbodiesel engines were installed on the Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010: 1.3 - 90hp, 1.7 - 80 and 100hp, 1.9 - 120 and 150hp. According to experts, it is better to buy a gasoline Astra, since diesel engines require even more attention than Opel gasoline units. If the power dropped significantly on the diesel Astra and the car began to smoke, the reason may be the particulate filter, which is already asking for replacement. A dual-mass flywheel is installed on Astra diesel modifications, over time it becomes the cause of knocks and vibrations, as a rule, replacement will be required after a run of 150,000 km.

On Astra modifications with 1.4 and 1.6L engines, drum brakes are installed at the rear, on more powerful Astras, disc brakes on all wheels. Astra front pads are enough for 30,000 km, rear - drum pads for 60,000 km. The Astra brake discs themselves serve 60,000 km.

It is best to buy a used aster with a manual transmission. The mechanics from repair to repair will last at least 100,000 km, and sometimes 200,000 km. The reverse gear of the Astra manual box is not equipped with a synchronizer, which is why immediately after stopping, the reverse gear on the Astra does not turn on well.

The Astra four-speed automatic is equipped with a winter mode, but if you don’t use it for a long time, one day the activation button may simply not work. Jerks when switching from first to second on this box are considered the norm, but jerks when switching from second to third indicate a malfunction. In some cases, repair will require replacing the valve body. A gearbox cooling radiator is built into the body of the Astra automatic transmission, it happens that the coolant flows and mixes with oil, which also does not increase the life of the unit.

A robotic gearbox with a run of 100,000 km will ask for a replacement fork. Usually, before the bulkhead, the Easy Tronic robot serves more than 100,000 km, in order not to shorten the life of the robotic gearbox during a short stop, neutral gear should be engaged.

Astra's suspension is quite hardy. According to the owners, she is harsh. Most often, stabilizer struts and tie rods are changed in the Opel chassis, this operation is carried out with a run of 50,000 km.

Price

You can buy Opel Astra H 2004 - 2010 in almost any city in the CIS. Price Opel Astra H 2007 $11,000 - $12,000. Astra is a good option for a person living in the city, a moderately fast car with a non-gluttonous engine and a spacious interior, besides, Astra has a good level of safety.

Figures and facts

According to statistics, Opel Astra H is one of the cars that lose the least value over time. Plus the relative cheapness of maintenance. And adding to this the technical specifications and a large selection, we can conclude that the Opel Astra definitely deserves attention.

Sedan Opel Astra H specifications.

The car body is made in accordance with increased safety requirements. More than 20 grades of high-strength steel are used in the design, due to which the rigidity of the frame is significantly increased. To protect the driver and passengers in extreme situations, the design of the Opel Astra H Sedan uses elements, assemblies and parts with a given deformation geometry upon impact. The protective characteristics of the Opel Astra H provided the car with a well-deserved highest Euro NCAP safety score. Body warranty against through corrosion - 12 years.

Despite its belonging to the class of compact cars, the Opel Astra H Sedan turned out to be quite spacious:

Sedan Astra H dimensions - length 4587 mm;

Sedan Astra H dimensions - width 1753 mm;

Sedan Astra H dimensions - height 1458 mm.

In general, the dimensions of the Opel Astra H Sedan are very close to the parameters of a car of a higher D-class. The dimensions of the wheelbase (2703 mm) and the solid volume of the luggage compartment (490 liters) demonstrated by the Astra H sedan make the interior of this car practical and functional. The rear sofa can comfortably accommodate three adults. The dashboard is informative and not overloaded. The front seats have 3-level heating. The control of this function is located on the center console. The driver's seat is adjustable in 6 directions (option), and the steering column - for reach and height.

The range of Opel Astra H Sedan engines consists of four power units. These are 140- and 155-horsepower gasoline engines of the ECOTEC family, as well as four-cylinder turbodiesels 1.3 CDTI and 1.7 CDTI with a traction power of 90 and 100 horsepower, respectively. The range of transmissions includes 5- and 6-speed manual transmissions, a 4-speed automatic transmission Astra H (A-4) and an Easytronic robotic gearbox, which combines the capabilities of “mechanics” and the comfort of an “automatic”. In Russia, diesel cars Opel Astra H Sedan, as well as Astra H sedan cars with a 6-speed manual transmission, are not produced.

Top engine Opel Astra H - 140-horsepower Z18XER engine is considered one of the most powerful and economical in its class. A reasonable balance between power and economy is provided by the variable valve timing system Variable Cam Phasers (VCP). The indicator of liter engine power is 57 kW / liter. In addition to this, 90% of the torque (175 Nm) is already available at 2200 rpm. Paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, this engine accelerates the car from zero to hundreds in 10.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 207 km / h. With this configuration of the Opel Astra H sedan, fuel consumption in the combined cycle is 7.8 liters per 100 kilometers.

The Z16XER engine, in combination with the Easytronic robotic gearbox equipped with Hill Start Assist, accelerates the sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.7 seconds. However, these more modest dynamic characteristics are more than offset by the prudent 6.3 liters of fuel consumption per 100 kilometers in combined operation.

The chassis of the Opel Astra H Sedan is as follows:

Basic interactive chassis Interactive Driving System (IDS).

MacPherson strut front suspension with anti-roll bar.

The rear suspension is represented by a patented semi-independent torsion beam. This combination provides Astra H sedans with handling characteristics comparable to those of "charged" hatchbacks.

Steering - rack and pinion type with hydraulic booster. Front and rear brakes - ventilated discs. Auxiliary braking systems include ABS anti-lock, EBD brake force distribution and Brake Assist. This also includes the TPMS tire pressure controller.

Sedan Opel Astra H - equipment

In the Russian market, the car is available in three versions: ESSENTIA, ENJOY and COSMO.

The Astra H sedan of the ESSENTIA configuration (basic) is equipped with all security systems, air conditioning, a CD30 audio system, heated front seats, an anti-theft alarm and electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors.

In the ENJOY version, electric lifts are available not only for the front, but also for the rear doors, a radio with MP3, rain and light sensors, a leather steering wheel with audio control and 16-inch alloy wheels.

In the top COSMO filling, in addition to all of the above, there are cruise and climate control, fog lights, Piano Paint-style center console and steering wheel trim, and leather elements in the seat and interior upholstery.

The cost of Opel Astra H Sedan in the dealer network varies in price ranges from 613,900 to 747,900 rubles.

The timing belt on these engines is changed according to the regulations every 90,000 km (along with a tension roller), but in rare cases it can break already at 50,000 km. The pump usually changes every second belt change.

There are no reliable statistics on diesel engines, since such cars rarely come to official services for maintenance. But it is worth mentioning the weak fuel equipment and the need to often (every 50,000 km) change the particulate filter or fork out for a "trick" if the previous owner has not done this yet.

Transmission

There are no questions about MCP. The clutch is unlikely to have to be changed before 120,000 - 130,000 km.

There are more problems with automatic transmissions. On motors 1.4 and 1.6 there is a "robot" Easytronic, which turned out to be not without sin. It happened that his electronic control unit broke down, which changes as an assembly. In addition, the masters recommend adjusting the "robot" clutch every MOT (15,000 km). During the ride, the driven disk is erased, and its point of contact with the basket is slowly shifting (due to disc abrasion), but the controller that doses the fuel supply does not know about the shift in the point of contact and supplies the wrong amount of fuel. As a result, the box does not work properly, accelerating clutch wear. If you regularly perform this procedure, then the clutch in the "robot" will calmly cross the line of 100,00 km.

The 1.8 engine is equipped with the classic Aisin hydromechanical "automatic". The box is often let down by the cooling system. Its oil pipes pass through the radiator, but have a weak lining. As a result, the tubes burst, the oil mixed with antifreeze, after which both the box itself and the radiator “died”. In the risk group of cars of 2005-2007, Opel changed radiators for them for free, but dealers did not always agree to repair or change boxes at their own expense. In general, if you bought a car with a 1.8 liter engine, watch the color of the antifreeze in the tank: it began to become cloudy (brown) - urgently to the dealer to replace the radiator, automatic transmission oil pipes and change the oil in the box.

Suspension

In the front of the chassis, the weak point is the thrust bearings, which simply rot. Their "cups" are covered with plastic lids, under which water accumulates. During the warranty period, the problem was fixed at the expense of Opel. In the steering rack, the main problem is the tie rod ends, which begin to knock when the steering wheel is turned already on runs of 30,000 - 45,000 km. The rail itself, if you do not abuse the pits and potholes, will last up to 100,000 - 150,000 km.

Often, the owners got a decent amount of money because of a penny part - an ABS sensor, which, like the thrust bearings, rotted. This happened in all major cities due to road chemistry. The trouble is that the sensor is assembled with a hub and a bearing. The rear shock absorbers usually leak already at 60,000 km, but the front ones not earlier than 100,000 km. Leverage and silent blocks can boast of special survivability, which are unlikely to have to be changed before 150,000 km.

“If you stand in the forest and listen, you can hear the Opel rotting”, “any German car eventually turns into an Opel”. Even about Chinese cars, they did not compose as many witticisms as about the Opel! Are they really that bad? We understand, using the example of the Opel Astra N review of the generation before last.

Varieties of Opel Astra H

On the Russian market, Astra H is found in the form of a sedan, a three- and five-door hatchback and station wagon, as well as a coupe-cabriolet with a hard folding top. Which option to choose is a matter of needs. But obviously a three-door hatch is less practical than a station wagon. Yes, and it fits more into a sedan than into a five-door hatchback.

In terms of space for passengers, the sedan and station wagon are the same. In the "short" Astra GTC, the ceiling is lower (presses on the head) and the knees do not roam. Also, the hole is uncomfortable.

A five-door hatch won't provide room for a sedan. They have the same wheelbase with a three-door, and passengers will only win a place above their heads and a separate entrance through their door.

There is a difference in terms of driving between Astras with different body types: short ones are easier and more mischievous than long ones.

Opel Astra H engines and transmissions

Officially imported and sold cars in Russia were equipped with only 1.4 petrol engines; 1.6 and 1.8 liters. If you see diesel options, this is a gray import. Their maintenance cost is higher, parts will have to be looked for abroad. Therefore, do not fool your head with exotic and take the studied options.

There are also three transmissions: a “handle” for all engines, a robot for 1.4 and 1.6, as well as a hydromechanical machine for the top 1.8 engine. It is better to take a "pen" or automatic transmission - no robots. You are tormented to drive for adaptation (optimization of the operation of the electronic unit to the changing thickness of the clutch) and change the clutch.

In addition, Opel's EasyTronic has earned a reputation as a "stupid". Switching is long, illogical; the ride is rough, rough. It's annoying and hard to get used to.

Complete set

The set of options is typical:

  • air conditioning everywhere, less often climate control;
  • music control on the steering wheel in versions starting with the middle one;
  • in the top versions there is navigation, although it is of little use. Free applications in your smartphone know and can do more, and work faster.

Of the specific equipment - non-fixed turn signal paddles. They are difficult to get used to even after many months of driving, and at first they turn off the lights altogether. Orange illumination of instrument scales for an amateur.

The interior of most Russian Asters is fabric or combined (fabric + leatherette). The fabric one is not very easily soiled and durable, you can’t say the same about the combined one. Leatherette inserts crack, sometimes not even reaching 100 thousand km.

Real leather is found as a "sports saloon" option. Buyers of other versions - either in the atelier for constriction, or put up with a combined finish.

Operation Opel Astra H

Astra H was produced in Russia for a record long time - until 2015. During this time, all the garage masters have studied it well, and the stores have got the hang of carrying a huge range of duplicate spare parts. In general, there will be no problems with servicing even in remote corners of Russia.

The reverse side of the popularity and minus the Opel Astra is the interest of hijackers. She is taken away for analysis, so you need to think about safety in advance.

Pros and cons of "Opel Astra"

“Hearing how Opel rots” is unlikely to succeed. Both imported and localized machines were welded and painted well, there were no mass complaints about corrosion. If there are signs of corrosion, then they are probably the result of a crooked body repair after an accident. The machine itself should not rot.

Much more complaints about the durability of body panels. There are sagging driver's doors. Trunk lids on hatchbacks can knock due to cracked seals. All this is treated by adjusting the hinges, locks and replacing the seals. Not critical, but worth paying attention to when choosing.

To close the body theme, be sure to say about the rubber "lip" under the front bumper. In theory, it works for aerodynamics, in fact it flies off after contact with the curbs. Dealers know this, so they offered the owners to dismantle this gum, which many used. If you see a bumper with a live “lip”, then the former owner or pedant, or recently changed the bumper assembly.

There are few questions about the steering racks. Leaks and backlashes are not typical for them. There are no complaints about the brake system: you only need to change the pads and discs according to the regulations / wear. A normal resource with adequate operation is 100-150 thousand km.

What can not be said about the manual transmission. She doesn't like torque. The manual transmission on the Astra H is old in design, the engines, on the contrary, are modern and “torque”. They were not prepared for such a mechanic, so the accelerated wear and scattering of bearings became a massive problem. And this could lead to damage to the transmission housing. The craftsmen got the hang of installing boxes from related Chevrolets on the Astra. This already smacks of making changes to the design of the car and unnecessary questions when registering with the traffic police.

Motors are boring. Separate “sores” of the Opel Astra can be found with negligent owners, but in general, gasoline aspirated is the most problem-free thing in Astra H. To go 200+ thousand km without overhaul, it’s enough:

  • change the oil and timing belt in a timely manner;
  • adjust valves every 60-100 thousand km;
  • clean the throttle body from time to time.

How much does an Opel Astra cost?

On the secondary market, an average of 365 thousand rubles are asked for the Opel Astra N. Sedan 2008 with a 1.8 engine; Manual transmission and a mileage of 148 thousand km can be taken for 305 thousand rubles:

Five-year "ashki" are given on average for 542 thousand. For half a million, an Opel was found with a 1.6 engine; Manual transmission and mileage of only 45 thousand km:

What to look for when inspecting

It is optimal to look for an Astra with a top-end 1.8 engine and a real machine gun. Although it is age-related, it is a strong unit from Aisin, tolerant of thermal loads. With timely oil changes and moderate driving, the units run both 200 and 300 thousand km.

In the cabin, look at the performance of all keys. The weak point of Astra H was the CIM module, which is also the module for connecting the entire console. Everything that you see on the panel is tied to its work, and not only (standard anti-theft, for example). Therefore, if the steering column switches or buttons on the panel do not work, it is better to strain.

The central lock can fail due to the design of the front door: firstly, the wires are frayed, and secondly, the lock microswitches. If the lock works by itself when slammed shut, the microswitches must be replaced.

According to the suspension, it is especially necessary to diagnose sedans and station wagons with particular care. Firstly, they are heavier than hatches by a good half a centner. Secondly, they load more. This is a sentence for both springs and rubber bands in the beam (bushings).

Problems "Astra N" on the secondary

To show the problems with which Ashki are sold, we will give a couple of examples. The first version of 2007 release:

The body is black, tinted, "cilia" on the headlights. Probably, a young and hot man owned the car, so we need to take a closer look. Let's see the report:

The declared and estimated mileage do not match, there are fines, there are restrictions on registration and two accidents. We pass by and look for something else.

The second option is even worse than the previous one. Among the problems of the Opel Astra are two accidents, a duplicate of the TCP and a deposit.

Take it or not

Astra H is a good car. Both in terms of quality and performance. He is not ashamed to look, not ashamed to ride and equip himself. When choosing, pay attention to cars manufactured in 2013-2015 with a 1.8 engine and automatic transmission, one or two owners and a clean operating history. It will turn out a little more expensive than the options tested above, but you will be calm.
