“Pyotr Mikhailovich was a great man, the creator of the world's first off-road vehicle with a monocoque body - the legendary VAZ-2121 Niva, which today bears the name LADA 4 × 4 and remains extremely popular in Russia and abroad. It is doubly sad that he left in the year of the celebration of the 40th anniversary of his car, literally a few days before the memorable date - April 5th. The entire AvtoVAZ team deeply mourns this loss. The plant covers the costs associated with the funeral ceremony ", - said the President of PJSC Avtovaz Nicolas More.

14 years ago, Petr Prusov retired, and this year he was again invited to return to his native plant as an advisor and to organize celebrations on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Niva car.

Petr Mikhavlovich Prusov was born on January 6, 1942 in the village of Zubki, Liozno District, Vitebsk Region, Byelorussian SSR. Father - Mikhail Vladimirovich Prusov (born 1905) - a collective farm foreman, a participant in the hostilities of 3 wars, a holder of the Order of the Red Star. Mother - Prusova Olga Emelyanovna (born in 1907) - a collective farm worker, awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor and two bronze medals of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements.

Creator of the legendary Niva car, which was included in the top three best cars in the world in 1979.

The design of the "Niva" was truly revolutionary: never before in the world was a jeep built on the nodes of a passenger car. Its design was ahead of the world's developments in this direction. Japan caught up with the USSR in this segment only in 1990, and it was the only Soviet car that was purchased by this country for sale on the domestic market; Niva fan clubs still exist and are actively operating in Japan. Niva has been successfully sold in more than 100 countries around the world. In New Zealand in the 80s, 40% of all SUVs were in the Niva, and in Austria - 90%. In France, in general, "Niva" has long been a cult car. Niva's dossier contains world-class humanitarian actions: for more than 15 years, these cars worked at the Soviet Antarctic Bellingshausen station, in 1998 Niva conquered the North Pole of the Earth and reached the site on the Everest mountain range at an altitude of 5200 m on its own. in 1999, together with a group of climbers, she climbed to Tibet to a height of 5726 m, which no one in the world had ever climbed on wheeled vehicles. Niva won dozens of victories in international rallies, including Paris-Dakar.

April 5, 2012 marked the 35th anniversary of the start of the serial assembly of Niva, the total volume of sales of which to consumers in all markets has long exceeded 2 million units.

As deputy chief designer (1983-1998) and chief designer of AVTOVAZ (1998-2003) P.M. Prusov was able to bring to life other outstanding projects that left their mark on the history of the domestic and world automotive industry. No wonder in his honor (the only Soviet and Russian auto designer) on the Walk of Technical Glory in Flint (USA) in 2010 a personalized Star was installed.

Prusov is listed in the book "Who is who in Russia", according to this publication, he was awarded 16 Gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medals of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements.

P.M. Prusov was the initiator of the creation in 1998 and the first chairman of the Council of Chief Designers of Automotive Plants in Russia, which confirms the unprecedented height of his authority as a designer and production organizer in the community of Russian engineers.

Since 2007 Prusov P.M. is engaged in solving problems of expanding sales markets for products of JSC AVTOVAZ. With his direct participation, the production of LADA-4x4 cars was organized in the Republic of Kazakhstan at Asia-Auto LLC, which allowed AVTOVAZ to increase the program for assembling auto kits by 5000 pieces. At present, Petr Mikhailovich is working on organizing production at a new automobile assembly plant in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since 2009 Prusov P.M. led a working group on projects for the production of LADA cars and auto components in the city of Argun of the Chechen Republic. This task has been successfully completed, and in 2012 JSC AVTOVAZ will increase the production of auto kits by another 2000 units. In January 2012, the head of the Chechen Republic R.A. Kadyrov awarded P.M. Prusov for his contribution to the development of machine-building production in Chechnya. Medal "For Services to the Chechen Republic".

Thanks to his great life experience and deep professional knowledge, P.M. Prusov He is rightfully invited by the government and specialized organizations to the commissions in the formation and discussion of new regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation in the field of technical regulation of the production and circulation of vehicles. With the active participation of P.M. Prusov developed and brought to practical implementation the technical regulations of the Russian Federation "On the safety of wheeled vehicles", the special technical regulations of the Russian Federation "On the requirements for emissions of harmful substances by motor vehicles put into circulation on the territory of the Russian Federation", the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the safety of wheeled vehicles funds ".

The number of received P.M. Prusov patents and copyright certificates for inventions and utility models only since 2000 amounted to 20 pieces, of which 4 - for inventions, the economic effect of implementation (excluding co-authors) - about 40 million rubles. For his enormous contribution to the development of mechanical engineering on behalf of the Russian Public Commission in 2007 P.M. Prusov Awarded the gold medal of Peter the Great "For Labor Valor".

P.M. Prusov actively participates in social activities. He is a member of the executive committee of the international automotive organization FISITA. Recognition of the merits of Peter Prusov among the technical and scientific community was his election as president of the "Association of Automotive Engineers of Russia", at present he is the vice-president of this organization. P.M. Prusov He works a lot and fruitfully with young engineering personnel, has repeatedly headed the State Attestation Commission at Togliatti State University.

In 2004, on the initiative of Petr Mikhailovich, a non-profit organization "Forte Charitable Foundation" was created, which is engaged in the development and implementation of social education programs in Togliatti. He is the founder and chairman of the board of the foundation.

The name of Pyotr Mikhailovich Prusov is inscribed in golden letters in the history of the world automobile industry. Such people-legends, outstanding figures of the world scale as Peter Mikhailovich, who multiply the glory of Russia, set an example of true patriotism and pride in their native Fatherland. The life and destiny of this person is a clear example of honest and conscientious work for the good of Russia. These are the people the younger generation should look up to. It is a great honor for Togliatti that the legendary car designer lives in our city, strengthening the belief in the possibility of further development of its industrial enterprises. Thanks to the work of people like Peter Mikhailovich Prusov, our city rightfully bears the title of the automotive capital of Russia.

Considering the contribution to the development of industry in Togliatti, to the creation of a powerful engineering potential of the city, in strengthening the interest of the world community in technical developments carried out in Togliatti, in promoting the popularization of engineering specialties among the youth of the city, Petr Mikhailovich Prusov was awarded the title of "Honorary Citizen of the Togliatti Urban District" (Decision of the Duma urban district of Togliatti No. 895 of 16.05.2012).

The "godfather" of VAZ-2121 "Niva" Pyotr Mikhailovich Prusov attended the ceremony of selling the first LADA 4x4 Urban car. We bring to your attention a short interview, which the chief designer of "Niva" gave to the chief editor of the Official LADA Club, Yuri Efimov.

Petr Mikhailovich, we have a LADA 4x4 Urban car behind us. The opinion is controversial around this car, due to the fact that it has plastic bumpers. SUV enthusiasts say this is bad for an off-road vehicle. City driving enthusiasts, on the other hand, say what they like. Express your opinion as a person who devoted many years to this LADA 4x4 car, when it was still called Niva. Your opinion? What can you say about this car?

If this car were offered instead of "Niva", I would, first of all, leave everything else, except for the bumpers. The bumper would not "twitch". But this is a modification. This is an addition, of course. And therefore, I think this is the case. You will remember: when there was a general decline in the market (we are talking about the post-perestroika years - ed.), We then "gave birth" to a bunch of modifications based on the Niva - pickups, vans, 5-door versions and 3-door. Today the time has come and the market must again offer various options. Therefore, as an option LADA 4x4 Urban may well exist.

I have just talked with Mr. Moskalyuk, who until recently led the LADA 4x4 project. He said that in the future (about half a year) a car could be presented that will occupy the niche of the extreme version of LADA 4x4. Do you know about this? Did you hear something?

I know I've heard about it. But I want to say that the extreme Niva is a narrow niche, since Niva has enough prospects without it. This offer (while Pyotr Mikhailovich points to LADA 4x4 Urban, standing behind him), in my opinion, in terms of the number of sales on the market, there will be more than the extreme option. But I will repeat again that I advocate that now, until a new car comes out, there would be as many options as possible.

As a person who was directly related to the birth of this car, that is, to the prototype, at least to the base car, tell me: looking back many years, what would you change in it?

On a big scale, I would change one thing: I would not make the transfer cases separately. Because, even when I was working on this issue, I was persuaded to take this option, because (everyone has probably already forgotten) the original car production program was 25 thousand. Then she became 50 thousand, even later 75 thousand. But initially the program was designed to produce 25,000 cars, and this left its mark on my decision. Today, if this project were started from the very beginning, I would not fundamentally change anything in Niva. But I wouldn't do out-of-the-box transfer cases.

When you and your team were engaged in the construction of the Niva, did you assume that this car would live for so long?

Honestly, no. For two reasons, no. First, they don't live that long. Secondly, I will remind you that the Chevy-Niva is the Niva, which was supposed to replace the existing car. But it so happened that the name was sold to a joint venture with General Motors. I can tell you that according to the law, when the contract was signed, this "Niva" (the current LADA 4x4 - editor's note) should have ended in 2005. It was then that we raised public opinion, raised the Association of Automotive Engineers. There was a magazine called "4x4". The name remained, but the magazine, of course, is completely different. They raised the Union of Commodity Producers, which was headed by Ryzhkov. We turned to the anti-monopoly committee, and he found these points worthless. Therefore, she is still alive. But again I repeat, the car, unfortunately, is not brandy. With age, it does not get better and therefore it is already necessary to change it.
