The car won't start no spark what to do. No spark causes and remedies

When the spark was gone Of course, you will never start the car, and in such a situation, first of all, you need to check the ignition system.

The ignition system of a car plays a key role in its operation. If, in case of many other malfunctions, the car can be delivered to the service station on its own, then in case of problems with ignition it is unlikely that it will be possible to start the engine at all.

How to test a spark

There are several ways to check the spark on a candle:

  1. Check for weight (the spark plug body is pressed against the engine and the spark is analyzed when the starter rotates).
  2. Checking the candle with a multimeter (you can determine the breakdown of the candle).
  3. Diagnostics with a tester based on a piezoelectric element (the principle of testing is similar to the method of breakdown to ground, the presence of a spark is determined and is used mainly on injection vehicles).

The main reasons why there is no spark

  • problem with spark plugs (flooded or out of order);
  • breakdown of high-voltage wires or loss of contact;
  • the reason is in the crankshaft sensor (check with a multimeter is required);
  • malfunction in the ignition module;
  • failure of the ignition coil;
  • the problem is in the switch;
  • distributor malfunction (burned contacts, loss of clearance);
  • poor contact of the ground wire;
  • failure or improper functioning of the computer;

No spark injector

You need to be very careful with checking the spark on injection cars (especially for foreign cars - you can burn the electronic unit).

It is recommended to use a spark gap in order to understand at what stage there is no spark on the spark plugs (not from the distributor, not from the coil or directly from the spark plug itself).
In the absence of a spark in all cylinders simultaneously, there may be several culprits:

  • controller;
  • the whole module;
  • coil or center wire.

The entire check procedure should start from the integrity of the fuses, the state of the ground contacts and contacts on high-voltage wires.

If no spark from coil ignition, the reason can be hidden in many places. First of all, you need to check the high voltage wire, which should be in perfect condition and without breaking the insulation. Otherwise, the wire must be replaced.

No spark, candle check - video

If the problem persists, then we check the spark plugs. The contacts of the candles must be clean. That no spark, contaminated spark plug contacts may be to blame. It is best to replace the candles, but you can also clean the contacts. But before changing the candles, check if the discharge reaches the candles themselves. To do this, remove the spark plug wire and bring it to the vehicle body at a distance of 0.5 cm. Rotate the starter several times and see if there is a spark between the wire and the body. The spark should be white with a light blue tint. If it is absent or present, but with a different shade, we can say that the candles are in order, and the problem is in the heart of the car's ignition system - the coil.

Let's figure it out now how to check the spark on the ignition coil

To see if the coil is working at all, remove the wire from the distributor-breaker that goes from the coil. The same test is carried out with him as with the wires of the candles, namely, they bring the wire at a distance of 0.5 cm and turn the starter. Now, regardless of the result, we can accurately talk about the cause of the breakdown.

Malfunctions of ignition systems are always unpleasant, because each of them negatively affects the operation of the motor. The latter either stops, or stalls, or does not start at all. This development of events is known to many owners of old cars equipped with a distributor.

What is ASZ

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

There can be several reasons for the absence of sparking. Most often, the distributor with its elements becomes the culprit. But no less well-known reasons are: a bad battery (battery), the armored wires themselves, the ignition box or its winding.

As you know, the ignition system of a car or ACZ is designed to effectively ignite fuel. It is clear that without a spark, there can be no ignition of any kind. It is not for nothing that the ACZ of a gasoline engine is also called a spark ignition system.

Depending on the type of process control, there are several gas stations. On domestic classics, for example, a contact ASZ is used, and on foreign cars - a transistor or electronic one.

The distributor in the contact ACS plays the role of a current distributor, energy through the cylinders. At the same time, it serves as a storage device for current energy.

If in the contact ASZ the accumulation and distribution is carried out in a single mechanism (distributor), then in the BASZ (transistor system), the switch is responsible for the accumulation, which clearly interacts with the Hall sensor. As for the distribution of energy, it is still controlled by the distributor.

Remarkably, in most cases, the spark disappears at the most inopportune moment. For example, if you urgently need to go somewhere in your car.

The old grandfather's way of "revitalizing" contact

Usually how it happens. Yesterday the car was fine, starting the first time. In the morning - as "dead". Any motorist who understands cars will turn out the candles, inspect and check them first. There is no spark.

Further verification is carried out already on the reel. It is necessary to inspect the main armored conduit, whether current flows through it. No spark again?

Here's what to do:

  • Check if current flows to the babin (coil).
  • Check if there is voltage to the switch.

If there is voltage, but the spark does not go through the armored wire, the first doubt falls immediately on the babin. She is removed, checked thoroughly, ringing. Is she working? It would seem an opportunity? But this happens often. Don't panic.

And here the distributor itself comes to the fore, the distributor. It is dismantled, the hall sensor is removed, it is cleaned of oil (it happens that it gets inside).

As a rule, these actions are enough for a spark to reappear on cars with BSZ (contactless ignition system), where the distributor becomes the "culprit" of the voltage loss. And the reason that the spark disappeared is either the ingress of oil into the sensor, or a weakened contact.

This often happens: the wires / communications connecting the switch and the distributor give an unreliable, loose contact. The old "old-fashioned" method of touching everything with your hands is 100 percent effective here. Thus, you can "reanimate", "revive" the contact.

This method will help you save money on the purchase of a coil, hall sensor or switch. It is not uncommon for amateurs in car services, poorly versed in business, to send the car owner to the store for parts that are actually in perfect working order.

Searching for a spark

A spark in the distributor should appear between the contacts (between plus and ground). This is clearly visible if you remove the distributor cap.

You can check if there is a spark on the open distributor (with the cover removed) as follows: turn on the ignition (turn the key half a turn), go to the distributor, turn the slider several times (turn it). In this case, a spark must necessarily appear between the contacts.

You can check if the current flows through the coil wire. Take a portable diagnostic tool (two wires with a light bulb). One wire clings to ground, and the second with a probe is placed on the distributor contact. If the light comes on, then there is current. Through the reel armored conduit, it goes 100 percent.

You can check the spark without the device.

  • We remove the main armor wire of the coil.
  • We take off the distributor cover.
  • We turn on the ignition.
  • We turn the slider, as in the above case, but we look at the armored wire.
  • We see a spark.

In short, the process of finding a spark can be simplified if several checks are carried out in turn.

  1. Make sure the battery is in order. You can check it in different ways. It will be very effective to test the battery for a horn. In other words, beep - if the sound is strong, it means that the battery is in order, it gives out normal current.
  2. Check armored wires. They should be examined carefully for insulation failure. It is recommended to be sure to check the spark plug wires lugs. They must be brought to the mass (of any part of the car body) by 5 mm, and then turn on the ignition. At the same time, the spark should strike brightly, it should be white and blue (provided that the candle is in order). If there is no spark, the search continues.
  3. Babin or coil is checked like this. The main armor wire is pulled out from the distributor cover (the one that goes to the coil). It is placed so that the tip does not touch anything, but is clearly visible. The starter turns on, if a spark appears at the end of the wire, the search for the spark must continue. If there is no spark, the babin is faulty.
  4. Checking the distributor should begin with inspecting the cover. It is recommended, just in case, to rinse it with gasoline, and then inspect it for cracks. Be sure to inspect the center graphite rod of the cover. Check his work. And it is important to check the rotor unconditionally. If everything is in order with the distributor, the search automatically switches to the LV (low voltage) circuit.
  5. To check it, as a rule, a portable device with a 12-volt lamp is used. The power of the control indicator should not exceed 3 W. One end of the carrier is connected to the LV terminal of the distributor, the other - to the car mass. Now you need to turn on the ignition and check if the light is on. Normal mode - the indicator goes out when the contacts are closed and glows when the contacts are closed. If the light does not go out at all, then either the contacts of the breaker are strongly oxidized, or there is a wire break.

Like any other malfunction - a malfunction of the ignition system is unpleasant and untimely, however, unlike others, it can cause a lot of trouble when trying to diagnose, that is, finding out the cause of the breakdown and inoperability of this system. which does not want to start. In this article, I will cover the most likely causes of the spark disappearing and how to find the cause at home.

The main signs of a malfunction of the ignition system are unstable engine operation (,), poor start-up or complete absence of a spark on the spark plugs. If a spark has disappeared, it is necessary to establish exactly the reason for which this happened, for this it is necessary to determine "the circle of suspects."

The main reasons why there may be no spark

  1. First of all, make sure that the ignition system is free of dust, dirt, oil stains, etc. If any of the above is present, take a rag and wipe everything properly, or blow it out with compressed air, then try to check the spark again and start the engine.
  2. Spark plugs are defective ("flooded", insulator burst, breakdown, etc.). Test the spark plugs individually and make sure there is really no spark. If there is no spark on all the candles, then the reason is most likely not in the candles, but in the coil or, for example, the starter. We read: and. If there is a spark, but weak or yellow, check the coil or BB wires.
  3. The problem is in high voltage wires (BB wires). It can be an open circuit, a breakdown to ground, poor contact. Perform a detailed examination of the BB wires, make sure that there are no cracks or fractures on their surface. Wiggle the wires and try to start the engine, if the engine starts or at least tries, most likely the reason lies in the wires. Details about that.
  4. Defective ignition module or ignition coil. How to check the ignition coil .
  5. The crankshaft sensor is out of order, how to check it read
  6. The problem is in the switch, distributor, incorrect gap, burned contacts.
  7. There is no contact on the ground wire or it is very bad.
  8. ECU malfunctions.

Methods for checking spark on candles:

  1. Weight check;
  2. Using a multimeter;
  3. Using a piezoelectric tester.

Spark missing (injector)

As for the injectors, things are a little more complicated here. Checking the spark in the spark plugs using the "ground" method in injection engines is not always possible, in some cases it is extremely dangerous, there is a high probability of damaging the computer. Therefore, it is better to test candles using other methods.

If the spark disappeared on all cylinders at once, the reasons may be as follows:

  • The controller is out of order;
  • The entire ignition module is defective;
  • The central wire is "broken".

The check must be performed one by one, starting with the fuses, then check the condition of the contacts of the BB wires and ground.

At one point, you may find that your engine has stopped starting. The first step is to check the condition of the spark plugs. If it turns out that there is no spark, the VAZ 2106 needs repair. This article will help you identify the causes and fix the problem.

There are several possible reasons for the missing spark. VAZ 2106 is most often equipped with a contact ignition system. But on some models, BSZ is also found. Therefore, we will consider both of these options.

Spark plug

If there is no spark, or a weak spark is observed, the first element that the car owner pays attention to are candles. You need to check if one of the candles has stopped working. First look to see if the candles have turned black. In this case, they need to be replaced.

Verification can be carried out in any conditions. Even right on the road in the event of an unexpected breakdown. It is important to have a set of working candles with you in stock for such an event.

  • install a new candle
  • turn the starter and see if there is a spark
  • if everything is working properly, start the engine and move on.

Sometimes installing a new, serviceable spark plug does not help - there is still no spark. In this case, you need to start checking the following elements of the system in order to find out why there is still no spark.

High voltage wires

After the candles have been checked and it turned out that the problem is not in them, you need to test if anything has happened to the high-voltage wires. Diagnostics is carried out in four simple steps.

  • If there is no spark on only one cylinder, we swap the wires
  • We check if the problem is resolved after this action
  • If a spark appeared on the cylinder, but at the same time it disappeared on another cylinder, then the matter is definitely in the wire.
  • The defective wire must be replaced with a new one.

In a similar way, it would not hurt to check if the center wire, which supplies current to the ignition coil, is working. Sometimes a spark appears after this wire is pressed harder against the transformer, which is located on the distributor cover.

Ignition distributor contacts

We proceed to this step only after we have performed the previous two to no avail.

Open the ignition distributor cover. We very carefully visually evaluate whether there is carbon deposits on the contacts. If such a misfortune is present, use a knife to very carefully remove this carbon deposit.

You can also check if the contacts are working properly. To do this, without closing the lid, turn the starter and see if all the contacts open. If some contacts do not work correctly, you will have to adjust the required spark plug gap on the VAZ 2106.

Ignition coil

So, if it turned out that all the candles are working properly, the high-voltage wires are supplying voltage, the central wire is also working properly, and the contacts are not damaged, you will have to go deep inside the system and diagnose the ignition coil.

You cannot do without special equipment. You need to prepare either a multimeter or an ohmmeter. Your task is to check both windings with these devices and make sure that the resistance of these windings has normal values, corresponding to those described in the manual for the VAZ 2106. If it was possible to identify deviations from the norm, to fix the problem, you will need to install a new serviceable part.

Additional points for electronic ignition

If you are the proud owner of a BSZ on a VAZ 2106, then after all the previous steps, you can pay attention to the following points:

Some owners of contactless systems also carry their previous contact ignition system with them, just in case, which was before being replaced. This will allow you to put it back on the road in the event of a malfunction for a while and drive to the car service, which is very convenient.

As you can see, if there is no spark on the VAZ 2106, it is quite easy to fix it. The main thing is to know where to look.

Basic information about the ignition system of a VAZ 2114 car

The VAZ 2114 car is built on the basis of the VAZ 21093 platform and is its improved version. Here there is a new steering wheel, an updated dashboard, an adjustable steering column, a new heater and power windows. Changes associated with the abandonment of the carburetor in the design of a VAZ 2114 car with an injection engine began to occur much later compared to foreign manufacturers, but these changes turned out to be quite useful.

An injector is a method of guiding a vehicle's engine system. In addition, it is a fuel mixture delivery method.

On machines with an injection engine, the fuel mixture is supplied with the help of a computer, through special nozzles. Most likely, every car owner has ever encountered a problem when there is no spark on the high voltage wires, but the driver hears the fuel pump functioning, then pay attention to the ignition system of your vehicle. One of the most common problems with a car's ignition system is that there is simply no spark on high voltage wires.

During the operation of the machine, some malfunctions of electrical elements may occur and this may affect the functioning of:

  • Devices, and this does not make it possible to control the ignition system and other components;
  • The power unit, thereby making it impossible to develop standard power;
  • The lamp of devices and the mechanism of convenience, which includes the lighting system, heating and power windows.

The main breakdowns faced by the ignition system of a VAZ 2114 car:

  • Decrease in vehicle power;
  • Failure during the development of vehicle engine power;
  • Idling instability;
  • Malfunction of the cylinder.

You need to start looking for the cause of the ignition system malfunctions with the formation of sparks on high voltage wiring.

Sparking process

If you hear the fuel pump running, but there are no sparks on the high-voltage wiring, then check the functioning of the ignition system. The system is checked for the presence of sparks on high voltage wiring, and for this a special device called a spark gap is used. The use of this device is considered more comfortable, because most injector type engines use static ignition distribution with the simultaneous transmission of high voltage to two spark plugs.

To carry out such a check, you need to connect a spark gap and turn the engine with a starter. If sparks appear only on some of the wires, then the reason is a breakdown on the mass of the wiring or the output of the coil. Sometimes the reason may be a break in the wiring or winding, which belongs to the ignition system module of the machine.

If there are no sparks on several wires at the same time in any sequence, then the cause of the malfunction is the coil, module or vehicle controller.

Note that breakage can occur when the high voltage line is cut. In this case, it is necessary to check the high voltage wiring for integrity, and this can be done by measuring the resistance level of the wiring themselves. The standard resistance value on the wiring should be no more than 200 kilo-ohms. It is also worth paying your attention to the fact that there should not be a large difference between the resistance levels of the wires.

Ignition module on a VAZ 2114 car

If the discharge of sparks from high-voltage wiring has always been stable, this indicates that the cause of the malfunctioning of the injection engine lies in the spark plugs.

If there are no sparks, then the cause of the malfunction may lie in the primary circuit, which runs from the generator to the ignition coil. Most often, the reason lies in the malfunction of the ignition module, and the easiest way to determine this is the reason or not, it is considered to establish an accurately working device. That is, if sparks appeared after replacing, then the problem was in the ignition module, and its repair is not provided in the instructions for use.

Algorithm for removing and installing the ignition module VAZ 2114 injector:

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal on the battery or using the ground cut-off button;
  2. Remove the tip from all candles;
  3. We bend the latch, disconnecting the module's low voltage wiring block;
  4. Disconnect the high voltage wiring from the module connectors;
  5. Unscrew the 2 bolts securing the crankcase to the engine using a 13 key;
  6. We loosen the 3rd bolt together with the head with a 17 key;
  7. We remove the module together with the bracket;
  8. Unscrew the bolts securing the module to the bracket. They are located under the hexagon;
  9. Establishment takes place in the reverse order.

If sparks still do not start to form, then it is very likely that the reason lies in the controller or the wiring connecting the module and the ignition coil. In this case, it is necessary to check for the presence of sparks on all cylinders one by one, and if there is no spark on some coil, then replace it with a nearby one. If, after replacing one coil with another, a spark appears, then the reason is a breakdown of the coil, otherwise the controller or wiring is broken.
