But Tuareg also has room for maneuver. It has a noticeably more generous range of engines, among which we found a diesel engine, which in its characteristics exactly repeats the Italian engine - the same three liters of volume and 500 Newton meters. And although he is weaker by only one "horse", this, as you know, is sheer trifles. In addition, the prices of the cars do not differ fundamentally - both in basic versions and with the diesel engines we have chosen.

Measurement error

Despite the similarity in numbers, the cars vary greatly in terms of interior design. Soft expensive plastic, smooth contours of the central panel, warm colors, elegant wood inserts - never before has the Jeep been able to boast such a homely and at the same time chic interior. In a massive, but moderately hard chair, you sit as if on a throne. The ranges of its adjustments are huge, and not only heating, but also ventilation is hidden under the skin. The speedometer and tachometer shine with chrome bezels and are perfectly legible. Famous! But, alas, the Jeep still falls short of the solid five. To make out the tiny numbers of the on-board computer display, you have to strain your eyes.

The multimedia system "U-Connect" is able to send SMS on its own, but it never bothered to learn Russian. For some reason, the automatic mode applies only to the front windows - and this, for a minute, in a car that costs well for two million! And it is completely incomprehensible with what joy the "Jeep" needed to copy the inconvenient "Mercedes" control system for the "turn signals" and wipers with the help of a single steering column switch. In Stuttgart cars, such a sophisticated ergonomic muck, due to an absurd tradition, looks like a cute quirk, but in an American car this feature causes nothing but irritation.

In the strict, slightly lame-dyed environment of the Tuareg, neither warmth nor soul is felt. This is a device made with jewelry precision. Scrupulousness and meticulousness are felt in everything - in the fit of the details, the profile and rigidity of the seats, the distance between the numbers on the devices, the thickness of the rim and the texture of the leather "steering wheel". There may be a sea of \u200b\u200ball sorts of things in the car, from the navigation system to the panoramic roof, but operating all this equipment is simple and pleasant - on every knob and button verified efforts. Only one thing strains: to charge the DVD-changer with discs, you need to climb into the trunk. As a result of its activities, Volkswagen is always ready for powerful jerks, regardless of what numbers are currently appearing on the speedometer. And this, mind you, in the usual box mode. But there is also a sporty one, which seeks to keep the diesel in the very tone of the torque. When the selector lever is set to the S position, the Tuareg becomes not only fast, but even a little sharp. Thank God, the brakes have enough strength and a margin of safety to besiege a hot off-road vehicle in time.

Sports and recreation

Ask why a big, tall and heavy car needs the ability to drive fast? That's the point, that "Tuareg" is characterized by an active life position. And taking turns on it is no less exciting than accelerating violently. Neat, with tides in the grip points, the steering wheel makes only 2.7 turns from lock to lock. On the other hand, this feature fits perfectly into the overall image of the car. While driving it, you feel that you are driving a large and powerful car. You look from behind the wheel at the bonnet sticking out in a cargo way and you are imbued with the meaning of the expression “you sweep a thing!”. At speed, of course, you will not find any analogies with the management of trucks. A 240-horsepower diesel engine paired with a 5-speed "automatic" powerfully, but smoothly moves the car both in the city and on dirt roads. Few of the potential owners would dare to drive the Grand into serious "mud", even if there is an air suspension that seriously increases the ground clearance. But this modern "classic SUV" will conquer any curb or city snowdrift playfully.

And the Touareg, with a similar off-road armament both in terms of transmission and in terms of air suspension, is perceived in a completely different way in dynamics and control. There is no trace of such an important feeling for some that you are piloting a cast iron iron. Almost any size Volkswagen drives like a car. Yes, with some correction for the weight and height of the driver's seat above the road, but you still feel like driving a car, even if you crack!
