Mercedes E-Class (W211) - uncle's dream. Mercedes E-Class (W211) - Uncle's Dream Comparison with Average Values

T-model for 75,000 euros: packed with the most advanced technology and electronics. What comes out of this during long-term operation - a wonderful dream test or 100,000 km of horror in a Mercedes?

Hightech acceleration: all sorts of electronic assistants inflated the price of the E320 T-model from the base EUR 46.284 to EUR 75.145. Only one malfunction was recorded per 100,000 km.

Despite all the advancement of electronics, somewhere deep in our minds lies a solid doubt about the invisible all-pervading intelligence. This used to apply only to airplanes, but today it is true for cars. The purpose of this test was to observe the sophisticated electronics of the flagship of the German automotive industry.

The new E 320 CDI T Elegance rolled out to the Autobild edition in December 2003, with almost all the optional extras included. In addition to the stock SBC brake, a range of electronic gadgets designed to make the driver's life easier pushed the price of the car from a base EUR 46,284 to an incredible EUR 75,145 (price in Germany).

The in-line 6-cylinder engine evokes sadness and nostalgia: it is the last one in the house of DaimlerChrysler. Today all 6-cylinder engines are V-shaped. The diesel engine with a torque of 500 Nm already at 1800 rpm allows you to roll gently and, if necessary, accelerate a vehicle weighing 2 tons in 8.3 seconds to 100 km / h.

We deliberately ordered the most sophisticated car in terms of options, because the wave of electronics sweeping the automotive world often resulted in expensive troubleshooting responses. Options such as pre-heating, ventilated seats with massage, parking sensors, keeping the distance to the vehicle in front "Distronic" (rarely used), television, navigation, automatic climate, bi-xenon with headlights and keyless start Keyless-Go drove price to the S-class area.

Unsurprisingly, the E 320 CDI station wagon was the first choice of business people in Germany. The diesel engine with a torque of 500 Nm already at 1800 rpm allows you to roll gently and, if necessary, accelerate a vehicle weighing 2 tons in 8.3 seconds to 100 km / h. Only a clear lethargy at the beginning of starting spoils the overall picture.

Ready for takeoff? There is as much electronics in the cabin as in a small plane. The on-board computer menu diverges down into endless submenus plus the "Comand" display - you can't do without instructions.

The in-line 6-cylinder engine evokes sadness and nostalgia: it is the last one in the DaimlerChrysler home. Today all 6-cylinder engines are V-shaped. But that shouldn't be a drawback: the new 3L 320 CDI develops 224bhp. and managed to win the first laurel wreath in the half-million km race in Laredo, Texas. It seems to be as reliable as "our" old engine, which performed quietly and unassumingly, showing zero wear in the final measurements of the engine parts at the end of the test.

The E-class nervous system is a network of wires, the total length of which is 2 km.

Greetings to motorists, and in particular mersovodov! Stumbled upon this site about 2 years ago, he told me a lot about the auto industry in our (in the sense of Russian) and foreign! Thanks to all the feedback and commentators! So I decided to help the site, and specifically the users, with my review!

Mears 320 CDI is my first car! I dashed off in 3 years almost like the legal fifty thousand kilometers and I can judge something. My wife and I chose the car, both did not know what they wanted! We were looking for something smaller, as my wife travels more than me. A4 or 3ka boomer! Tseshka Mears in general somehow does not lie to the soul! Gasoline or diesel, station wagon or sedan, front or rear wheel drive! The devil knows! Since we are a young family and are not yet burdened with children, the car could, in principle, be anything, BUT a German necessarily wanted! In short, I came across Yeshka! And of course I started to ask my friends, servicemen, what's what! Discouraged everyone! The body rots, the diesel eats oil, expensive to operate, rear-wheel drive! The wife began to doubt. And I bought it to spite everyone! And to your joy!

Naturally, the diagnosis of everyone and everything was carried out! No major flaws have been identified! Was driven from Italy (after all, there is a difference from where the car, Europe does not need to be generalized). Execution AVANTGARDE, restyling, automatic, there is TV, leather, climate, folding mirrors with heating, alloy wheels for 18 + winter wheels for 16 iron! Not full mince, but enough! Rust was not observed anywhere, the engine ran smoothly! The first thing I did was change the cylinders, for 18s, and even with 265/35 tires at the back - this, of course, is beautiful, powerful, but not at all practical! I put it in front of 225/45, butt 245/45, also not a fountain, a bit harsh, but what can you do, beauty requires sacrifice! The disks are original, so I have never rolled them, although I have been in the pits, and I bent 2 iron ones in winter! On the winter 16th, of course it is much softer! But Avantgarde itself is tough (a hint of sportiness) and low, the curbs are all mine, compared to elegance or classic, but due to the low fit it looks better! I changed the oil in the engine (7.5 liters - this is no joke to you) in the box (6 liters somehow), well, pads, wheels! And while I was driving, I could not get enough of it! City consumption 10L, 12L maximum! Outside the city, 7 liters, the smallest that I could squeeze out is 5.3 liters! Yes, yes, on a 3.2 engine with 5.3 liters at an average speed of 70 km / h! I refuel ONLY with high-quality diesel fuel, I do not dabble in additives! Filled it somehow with the left, so generally a different car! Didn't want to go!

The salon is so-so in terms of ergonomics, of course, what are the cup holders on the glove compartment lid, well, how could such a thing be thought of, and even in a Mercedes, I don't understand! You put coffee there and it is guaranteed that the glove compartment and all the contents will be filled! The noise is so-so, it could be quieter, the seats are soft and comfortable, but there is not enough lateral support, the butt slips on the skin when you want to drive! I got used to the switch of wipers, lights, turn signals, since it is known that they are on the same handle, blinked with all the high beam when the wipers were turned off, and now I got used to it. The mobile has nowhere to stick! Klima works as expected if all filters are replaced, and there are 4 of them in the cabin! 2 paper and two charcoal! By the way, if you know a couple of simple key combinations on the Klima, you can see a lot of important and not very information, for example, the battery charge, the temperature of the coolant, even the instantaneous temperature blowing from each nozzle, Klima errors and whatnot! You won't remember! Comrade BMW E39, so, in my opinion, everything is done there with great sense, arrangement, somehow more comfortable, or something!

The engine is, of course, a song! I agree with the previous speakers: if you take, then 3.2! 470 torque is not that for you! I have enough for the eyes! You can submerge it so that it doesn't seem a little! A friend of E39 has 3.5 petrol, drag racing with him, Merce goes forward to the hull! But benz is benz, as I am going with him, so in general the engine is not audible! And mine rumbles and vibrates, yes! Especially cold! Whatever diesel is, it's a tractor! Even with new pillows! (everything, of course, is in comparison, the A6 2.5 TDI is much noisier, bless you, the diesel engine is quieter, especially 2.5), one BUT: it is very difficult to warm it up in winter! Gentlemen, diesel operators, diesel to diesel strife, even what! The parents of the E34 BMW 2.5 TDC, heats up as expected! But the cdi has a very high efficiency, so there is not much energy left for warming up! So, as I said earlier, the car is from Italy, and I only got an electric heater, which, moreover, does not work! For example, almost all of them have full-fledged Webastes for the Mercians, driven from Germashki! For diesels of 2.2 cdi without additional heating, as I heard, the temperature never rises at all. In winter, it starts up without problems, if only the battery does not fail! This winter it was -29! Like a clock! Used cars every day almost, and never let down, I think it's 100% reliable!

CAP is a good and necessary thing, I always have it incl. Without it, a full-fledged ride in winter does not work at all! Also never let you down! Of course her permeability is below average, I would say! I'm out of the way! I turned a little in the winter in the wrong direction - that's it, trouble! Front-wheel drive wins here!

The box is another story! This is the only thing that upsets me the most about this car! While it is cold, it's some kind of PPC! It is impossible to ride, pulls up to 2000 rpm, or even more, as it gets hot - then a completely different ride! So now every morning I put on the handbrake and turn on the Drive, so at least it heats up faster! There is a standard mode and there is a winter mode, it starts from the second gear then!

The most expensive breakdown that happened over all these years is the engine control unit, this is later, as I learned from the Internet, after I washed the engine with water! The issue price is 400 euros - used, of course. They promised me a new one for 1000 euros! And what is interesting, the car was driving as usual, and this problem was revealed at the technical inspection, when the revolutions were given to the maximum and they began to float and blackening smoke was pouring down! I don’t know how the exhaust is checked in Russia, but we have it! I changed one sprayer, also used, for 70 euros! No matter how scary! You can change everything in a circle if you wish! The suspension holds for a year and a half, I don’t drive to the victorious one, just change it. I don’t remember how much which stabilizer or lever is, on a par with BMW and AUDI! There is no more repair on the engine, so comparing gasoline or diesel is everyone's business, the tractor is more economical, but the tractor is Shumka day and night with gasoline! And repairs for gasoline can cost a pretty penny, for example, change sensors on the engine on the E39 3.5 - 500 euros + work!

And still more satisfied with the car than dissatisfied! I like its shape, not at all! There is something in it! And when you press the gas pedal, you forgive her everything! But time goes on, I want something new! But still the next car will be gasoline! While I liked AUDI a6 3.2 gasoline, I would not refuse from Merce, but they are somehow much more expensive! And never a quattro!

Somehow like this! The whole truth is as it is! Don't judge a Latvian harshly for mistakes! You don't often have to write in Cyrillic!

Good luck on the road!

“30 years ago I had a Mercedes with an 8-cylinder diesel engine. Now I want to immerse myself in the world of Mercedes again, ”said radiologist Dr. Andreas Leichert from Ahrensburg (Schleswig-Holstein). “The price limit is 10,000 Euro. It should be a real Benz, a classic sedan, powerful and luxurious enough. " And here it is before us: Mercedes E 320 CDI - one of the first W211s with a diesel V6 and a 7-speed automatic transmission 7G-Tronic. First registration - June 2005, mileage of about 211,000 km.

A special feature of this 320: the first owner ordered almost all the additional equipment that could be installed in the Mercedes E-Class in 2005. The system for maintaining a safe distance to the vehicle in front Distronic, Airmatic air suspension, panoramic glass roof, dynamic multi-contour front seats with ventilation, heating and massage function, Comand multimedia with navigation, parking sensors and much more. All this increased the cost of the basic version of the Mercedes E-class by 27 865 euros from 49 851 euros to 77 716 euros. The market price of a similar specimen today is 10,200 euros.

We agreed to pick up the car for 9,400 euros, but first went to the service for an examination. A preliminary inspection in the workshop revealed the first diagnosis: worn out rear tires, a torn turbocharger pipe, oil leakage. In addition, the chair does not fully function: the heating does not work properly, massage does not work. Possible reasons: the compressor is faulty, the air chamber has torn, the hose burst, flew off or cracked.

The diagnostic computer did not show any errors. This Mercedes E-class is absolutely healthy! Buyer's advice: be sure to take the Mercedes to the service when buying to read errors from memory. Many malfunctions can be overlooked both during inspection and during a test drive.

You should be aware that Mercedes E-class built prior to the big facelift in June 2006 suffer from problems with the SBC electro-hydraulic brakes. Mercedes ordered all its service centers to replace the defective brake valve body free of charge, under warranty. Daimler also carried out service actions to eliminate problems with premature battery discharge and various electronics malfunctions. It is gratifying that the W211 got rid of the corrosion that plagued the body of the W210's predecessor. Also, beware of AMG versions of the W211. The repair costs are enormous and only original parts are required to replace worn components such as brakes.

Until June 2006 were installedSBC -brakes, the basis of which is a hydraulic control unit with an integrated electric pump. To ensure operational reliability, Mercedes prescribes to replace it after a certain time. Cost: up to 2000 euros.

If you decide to purchase a Mercedes E-class of the W211 series, then it is better to consider the copies collected after restyling in 2006. The cars received more powerful engines, reliable electronics, and instead of the problematic SBC brakes, classic hydraulic brakes were installed. The restyled Mercedes E-class is able to offer the legendary quality that everyone expects from Mercedes.

Airmatic air suspension can cause problems. Namely, pneumatic bellows - 1100 euros apiece with installation, and a defective compressor - about 650 euros.

If the panoramic roof hatch is incorrectly adjusted, then after about 80 km / h aerodynamic noise from the incoming air stream will begin to pester. The electric sun blind sometimes rattles.

In case of problems with the operation of the automatic transmission, an oil change with a filter often helps. The longevity of the box depends on the regularity of the given procedure. The cost of official services within the walls of Daimler is about 500 euros.

Since the spring of 2005, a particulate filter has been installed on all diesel engines, which can clog with high mileage. The replacement cost is about 1000 euros.

A problem with many modern cars is the relatively rapid wear of multi-link suspension components. W211 did not bypass this. Most malleable: ball (150 euros each side), wishbone (lower front 300 euros).Springs sometimes break - about 350 euros per pair.

E 220 CDI - suitable for many drivers who value efficiency above all. Developed power 150 HP and 170 hp. (since April 2006). The engine is stronger and quieter than the 200 CDI.

E 280/320 CDI - this is where luxury begins. The diesel V6 (since March 2005) has a high torque, runs smoothly and is very strong. Power 190 and 224 hp respectively.

The E 200 Kompressor is the basic version with a petrol engine, which is suitable for drivers with low mileage a year. Power 163 HP and 184 hp. - since June 2006. The first copies often had problems with the chain tensioner.

E 350 is a powerful and high-revving petrol V6 with 272 hp. Engines assembled before September 2006 were troublesome due to rapid wear on the balance shaft sprockets.

The E 500 is a powerful and refined petrol V8 with 388 hp. (since June 2006).
