Owner reviews

The impression of the car worth half a million soured six months later, when rust began to climb on all four doors of the salon. Following the sills, today I discovered rust on the inside of the front hood. In general, iron rots earlier than on Soviet Zhiguli, which began to rot after 3 years of operation.

Video review

The car is worth the money, but only in 2014. The quality has not changed over time, but the price has grown significantly. This car is not my first, there were 2 fours VAZ 2104 and VAZ 21111. Of course, in terms of the comfort of Datsun, it is better, but in terms of assembly and painting I have not yet met worse. The whole interior rattles, the paint falls off in layers, in the car dealership they are rude and do not accept claims, they blame everything on the owner.

Kuzma Gerasimov, drives Datsun on-DO 1.6 (87 hp) MT 2014

Normal car, for 60,000 km nothing but oil changed. Auto working in taxi mode all day. I skated the winter with a bang, start-up without problems, the signaling is native without a car factory, I change the oil after 10,000 km, poured only 5/40 synthetics nord itself Belgium.

Kurt, drives a Datsun on-DO 1.6 (87 forces) MT 2015

I have it-DO in the configuration Trust, took to replace the VAZ 2114. I was pleased with the power steering, lighting, trunk volume. The dynamics are not bad. At the second thousand kilometers on the torpedo, the engine malfunction lamp turned on. Already running 9,000 km, the malfunction did not give itself away. I operate in St. Petersburg, I drive along the ring road. It behaves very unstable at speed - it sways perceptibly left and right. If rutting is present, you may lose control altogether.

The side windows are not fully lowered. The interior mirror is wretched - you can't see anything, you can't change to a panoramic one - sun visors interfere. There is a lack of a turn signal repeater in the mirrors, the turn-on buzzer gets tired, you have to turn on the turn signal just before the turn, just to listen to it less. With a sharp acceleration, especially with a slip, the engine can sharply slow down to minimum speed, which, when overtaking and especially when turning left at a traffic light, can cause an accident.

Sergey Fluerar, review about Datsun on-DO 1.6 (87 hp) on mechanics 2015

Where can one buy?

I took it in January 2017 in the Dream 1 configuration. It is quite a decent device (after Vazovskaya 15). The box buzzes, like everyone else, the brake pads whistle, the stove turns on (it blows in the wrong direction in auto mode).

Consumption while running in and only the city - 12.5 liters. Another feature I liked - the foam rubber in the left central deflector is supposedly a technological feature. I also noticed that the taillights fog up in frost after washing and foglights. In cold weather at -30 degrees, there is not enough force on the rear left door to open it, you need to help with your hands.

Review of Datsun on-DO 1.6 mechanic 2016

So far, the impressions are only positive, I only have a car for 2 weeks, and while I dashed off 300 km. The car is being run-in, and I'm getting used to it too. I can say that the engine and gearbox pair work well. The climate is very cool: the weather was from +15 to +28, and it works at "5".

Good ground clearance, especially on our dead roads. The suspension pleases with a balance of stiffness and softness, at "4" it earns for sure, a kind of average. I'm getting used to the steering wheel. Datsun has it-DO it is electro. I will estimate the capacity and permeability as a solid "5".

In 1980, Nissan suspended the Datsun brand, but today it has decided to revive its successful line of vehicles. At the moment, the concern operates three well-known brands - Datsun, Infinity and Nissan. They are divided between three target audience segments.

According to this idea, the manufacturer Datsun will distribute cars with a hexagonal logo on the body as a local continuation of the global concern. This builds consumer confidence and makes the resurgent brand a great advertisement. At the same time, the Nissan Power 88 strategy assumes the harmonious development and promotion of all three brands to the global market in order to meet the expectations of different groups of buyers.

Following the achievements of Nissan and implementing its own unique developments, the manufacturer creates cars that attract more and more attention from buyers in countries with actively developing economies.

Following the return of the Datsun brand to the global market, Nissan has introduced its updated symbol - a new hexagonal logo designed to emphasize the modern style of these cars. By retaining part of the original logo, the company demonstrates its commitment to tradition and fundamental principles - sincerity that leads to success and a responsible attitude to work to make reliable products.

THE AGE OF DATSUN

THE DATSUN AGE

It all started with the Kaishin Sha Motor Works in Tokyo's Azabu-Hiru neighborhood.

1911

The founder of the factory, 37-year-old Masujiro Hashimoto (1875-1944) graduated from the Tokyo Industrial School in Kuramae, after which the Ministry of Agriculture and Trade of Japan sent him as the best graduate to study engineering in the United States. Hashimoto-san returned to Japan with the firm intention of starting car production.

1914

Hashimoto's cars are marketed under the name DAT. This abbreviation is derived from the initial letters of the major investors in the Kaishin-sha factory, Kinjiro Dena, Rokuro Aoyama and Meitaro Takeuchi. This name also reflects the concept of DAT cars of that time: Durable - reliable, Attractive - attractive, Trustworthy - trustworthy.

1919

Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha (Practical Car Manufacturing Company) is established in Osaka. She is considered to be another progenitor of the modern Datsun. The company produces three- and four-wheeled auto rickshaws designed by the American aircraft designer William Gorham (1888 - 1949). A passionate japophile, Mr. Gorham settled in Japan, took the name Gohamo Katsundo and did not leave the islands even during World War II. Because Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha used American machine tools and imported parts and materials from the United States, Gorham cars were renowned for their quality and reliability.

1926

The companies "Kwaisin-xia" and "Jitsuyo Jidosya Seizo Kaisha" are merging. The new company is named DAT Jidosha Seizo.

1931

The Datson subcompact begins production in Osaka at a factory formerly owned by Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo Kaisha. Literally the name is translated as "son of DAT", but it would be more accurate to express "child of DAT". Later, the name of the car was changed to Datsun, as "son" is consonant with the Japanese word for "loss". Brand cars get a new logo.

1933

On December 26, everything related to the production of cars in the Nihon Sanyo zaibatsu is taken over by the new company, Jidosha Seizo Kabushiki Kaisha. English name - Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. Production of the Datsun 12 begins.

1934

In June, the company was renamed Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. 59% of its assets are owned by Nihon Sanyo, 39% by Tobata Foundation, and the remaining 2% are distributed among members of the Yoshisuke Ayukawa family. Production of Datsun 13 begins in April. The first samples of cars are exported.

1935

On April 12, a new plant was opened in Yokohama. This is the first enterprise in Japan where the production of cars was carried out by the conveyor method. The first model to roll off the conveyor belt was the Datsun 14 sedan. The plant produced about 500 cars a month.

1955

Production of the Datsun 110 begins in January. After several attempts to build a state-of-the-art vehicle, this is the first real success. At the 2nd Tokyo Motor Show, which opened in May at Hibuya Park, the Datsun 110 was a sensation.

1957

Since November 1957, the Datsun 1000, also known as the Datsun 210, has been produced. Although outwardly similar to the Datsun 110, it summarizes the experience gained from communication with Austin specialists.

1958

On January 10, the Datsun S211 cruising roadster was shown on the rooftop of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo. Its designer, Hiro Okhta, followed the finest British sports cars of the day.

1959

In August, the Datsun Bluebird 310 is presented - a new word in the history of the brand. Model Designer - Teichi Hara. The car received a monocoque body of modern proportions (length - 3910 mm, wheelbase - 2280 mm) and an independent double wishbone front suspension. The car's name, Bluebird, refers to a play by Maurice Maeterlinck.

1961

Nissan Mexicana S.A. Manufacturing Division is formed in September. de C.V. Five years later, it will start producing cars.

1966

On February 19, the company announces the results of a competition for the name of a new subcompact model, known under the in-house designation Datsun B10. Most of the eight and a half million participants chose the name Sunny - "Sunny". The Datsun Sunny was first introduced to the general public in April, and mass production begins at the Zama plant in June.

2012

In March, Carlos Ghosn, President and Senior Executive Director, announced plans for Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to revive the Datsun brand as part of the Power 88 strategic development plan.

2013

On July 15, 2013, Carlos Ghosn presented the new Datsun Go car in India. The model is designed for young buyers. The three pillars of the reborn Datsun are Dream, Access, and Trust. Datsun vehicles will be represented in the fastest growing markets in India, Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

Last year, sales of an unusual car began in our country. The uniqueness of the Datsun on-DO model is that it is based on the Russian Lada Granta platform. In addition to the bodywork, the Japanese partner of AvtoVAZ also borrowed engines, which, of course, were modified. The company plans to create a network of car dealerships for the sale of the car, the model will be serviced at Nissan technical centers.

Datsun on-DO belongs to the category of economy class cars and is obviously going to squeeze out Russian and Chinese products in this niche, as well as used cars from Europe.

It is not entirely clear the motives of the Russian auto giant, which, in the face of falling sales of its own products, adds another competitor to it. In this case, it is difficult to count on the growth of sales of "Grants" and "Kalina".

Obviously, the actions of the Russian company make sense, and partial loss of profits from the reduction in sales of its own models will be compensated in a different way.

The car was specially created for the Russian market and Japanese engineers did a good job on it. In terms of equipment, Datsun on-DO is significantly superior to Chinese models, and it's not even worth talking about quality.

History of creation and place of production

The Nissan company has long been eyeing the huge Russian market in terms of its capacity. It was for this direction of development that the Datsun trademark was revived and a completely natural question arises for what?

The explanation is quite simple: between the VAZ Granta and Kalina there is a rather large cluster that is not occupied by anyone.

Datsun on-DO aims to fill this price gap. Quite a significant number of our fellow citizens have the means to purchase something better than domestic cars, but not enough to buy a Japanese car.

In addition to market prospects, considerations of prestige played a significant role in recreating the brand: Nissan did not dare to give its name to the budget model so as not to lose face in the segment of expensive premium cars.

Video - test drive Datsun on-DO:

Datsun on-DO is already being assembled on one of the conveyors in Togliatti from components of its own production and imported. Taking into account the successful start of official sales, the company plans to increase production. At the same time, the manufacture of most parts and assemblies will gradually be mastered by Russian enterprises.

Specifications Datsun on-DO

Japanese designers had a hand in the exterior of the car and managed to make it attractive enough. The Datsun on-DO model has the following technical characteristics: length - 4337 mm with a wheelbase of 2476 mm, which provides sufficient spaciousness in the cabin. The width and height of the car are 1700 mm and 1500 mm, respectively, with a ground clearance of 185 mm the car approaches the category of crossovers.

Even when fully loaded, this is 168 mm, Japanese engineers have taken into account the condition of our roads. With such a ground clearance, the car is not afraid of high curbs and rather deep potholes on our roads.

Video - experience of operating Datsun on-DO in a taxi:

In general, the appearance of Datsun on-DO is quite presentable for its class: modern lighting technology between the headlights is harmoniously inscribed with a hexagonal grille.

Most of all, the Russian origin is visible when looking at the car in profile, the body lines clearly give Grant. To soften the impression, the doors are fitted with body-colored moldings.

The stern is quite typical, the taillights are assembled in blocks, they are compact and not too conspicuous. In general, the appearance, according to the recognition of both specialists and the general public, is quite harmonious.

Interior

With regard to the salon, the designers tried to combine Japanese asceticism and Russian broad-mindedness. Everything from design lines to modern materials is noticeably different from the original source and which is gratifying for the better.

The interior can be called solid, the individual parts are well fitted and well fixed without straining the passengers and the driver with a crash while driving.

Video - test drive Datsun on-Do with Dream package:

There are many interesting finds in interior design. This smoothes the mating line on the front panel. The media center and the ventilation and heating control unit fit very well under it. The three standard rotary knobs are large enough to work even with winter gloves. For our harsh winters, this is a completely useful detail.

The first reviews from drivers about the Datsun on-DO are quite favorable, the workplace and the steering wheel are comfortable. The dashboard is very informative, readings from the tachometer and speedometer are easy to read.

Interior details in the form of coasters for glasses and bottles on the central tunnel do not prevent the driver from changing gears.

Another big plus is a huge 350 liters.

Engine, transmission and chassis

The car is equipped with a VAZ engine developed, which was significantly modified by Japanese engineers. The naturally aspirated power unit operates on a high-octane AI-95 brand. This engine is well known to Russian motorists from the Kalina.

Datsun on-DO specifications are summarized in the table:

Modification 82 h.p. 1.6 l 87 h.p. 1.6 l

The power unit of the Datsun on-DO car has been significantly improved: it was equipped with a new cylinder-piston group and a more advanced electronically controlled injection system.

The moving parts of the engine are made of new alloys, which give them the best weight characteristics. This made it possible to increase power and torque while maintaining the working volume.

At the moment, the car is equipped with a mechanical five-speed gearbox and a dry single-plate clutch. To control the operation of the transmission, a cable mechanism of the Atsumitec brand and more advanced gear shift forks made in Germany by Shaeffler are used. The company plans to install it on a car.

The chassis of the Datsun on-DO is the same as the Russian Kalina, on the basis of which it was designed.

In front, the sedan is equipped with a classic version of the independent suspension type McPherson. Its design involves: telescopic struts, coil springs, wishbones and anti-roll bars. The rear suspension is semi-dependent with two trailing arms united by a torsion beam.

The braking system is also standard: dual-circuit with cross-force distribution. The front ones are equipped with ventilated discs, while the rear ones are equipped with much less expensive drum mechanisms. The parking brake is activated by a linkage and cable system.

The steering is equipped with a fairly reliable and well-proven electric amplifier.

Price and equipment Datsun on-DO

To achieve success in the segment of inexpensive budget cars is possible only if the consumer is offered a sufficiently large number of equipment options.

In the salons of official dealers, the Datsun on-DO sedan is presented in three trim levels, on which their price actually depends. The version names are quite traditional for the European and American markets: basic - "Access", improved - "Trust" and top-end - "Dream".

Video - test drive Datsun on-DO with Trust package:

The cheapest version of Datsun on-DO costs 329 thousand rubles. For this money, the consumer receives a package that is quite rich by the standards of this segment:

  • Electric power steering, the column is tilted in height.
  • The front seats have built-in heating.
  • Rear seats, split folding backrest.
  • In spare parts, a full-size wheel, mechanical and wheel wrench.
  • The braking system is equipped with BAS and EBD.
  • Safety systems include an airbag for the driver and an Isofix-type child seat attachment system.

The improved Datsun on-DO equipment, in addition to the above options, is equipped with:

  • mechanically controlled central lock;
  • on-board computer;
  • for the passenger in the front seat;
  • fog lights mounted in the bumper holes;
  • interior elements in the cabin are chrome-plated.

In this version, the car can be purchased in the salons of an authorized dealer for 359 thousand rubles.

The richest equipment of the Datsun on-DO model, in addition to all the above equipment, is equipped with the following devices:

  • a media center capable of reading information from SD cards and USB devices and;
  • the car has passed audio training and is equipped with four speakers;
  • the ignition key is a remote control for the central locking;
  • electric power windows are installed on the rear doors;
  • light alloy original design.

Such a car is offered to the Russian consumer for 475 thousand rubles. The list of options that are offered at an additional cost includes:

  • navigation system with 7-inch TFT monitor;
  • in the back;
  • rain and light sensors;
  • additional side airbags;
  • heated windshield;
  • stabilization system.

These options are offered in all car dealerships of the manufacturer's authorized dealers. According to the results of the first months from the start of sales, the Datsun on-DO car is in rather high demand. This state of affairs is facilitated by a large selection of versions, rich equipment and relatively low prices.

Forum Datsun on-DO and owner reviews

A little time has passed since the car appeared on sale, but it was enough for the formation of interest groups in the network. Several popular forums of Datsun on-DO owners have appeared on the Internet, within which a rather active discussion of the car is being conducted.

The most reliable information about the car is on the Russian version of the manufacturer's web page. The official website of Datsun on-DO (LINK) contains data on technical characteristics, configuration options and prices. The design of the resource is rather laconic; apparently, the Japanese tendency towards a certain asceticism is reflected.

In contrast to this source of information, an unofficial Datsun on-DO and mi-DO club (LINK) has been created, where there is an owner forum, a technical page, and the latest news.

The site has several thematic sections, which contain a lot of useful information about the experience of servicing and operating a car. This resource seems to be extremely useful and interesting.

At the end of last year, two portals were merged: the unofficial club described above and the Datsun on-DO forum in Russia, where reviews of the owners were previously published. The network address of this resource is datsunfan.ru/forum. Combining the two sites greatly expands the audience of users and provides them with great opportunities for exchanging data.

Sales of the new sedan in our country began relatively recently, but this time was enough for the formation of the most correct first impression. The test drive of the Datsun on-DO model was carried out not only by experts and journalists, but also by a fairly large group of new owners.

During this time, a sufficiently large experience of operating the car has already been accumulated, which allows making more or less objective conclusions.

Video - reviews of the owners of Datsun on-DO:

Based on the feedback from car owners, the car turned out to be successful. The driver's workplace is beyond praise: the fit is comfortable, the range of adjustments is large. There is also enough space for passengers both in front and behind.

Only the rather weak soundproofing of the cabin causes some criticism, but our fellow citizens have learned to cope with such problems on their own.

According to the running characteristics, Datsun on-DO, according to the experts, showed quite acceptable results. The dynamic characteristics are not bad for its class: acceleration from a standstill is quite fast. In case of unexpected overtaking, the power reserve is sufficient and it is quite possible to do without downshifting and spinning up the engine to the maximum mode.

The Datsun on-DO suspension is somewhat stiff, on the other hand, it provides better handling on mediocre roads.

The electric power steering provides good maneuverability at low speeds. In turns, the car behaves quite well even at significant speeds.

Both experts and car owners express a unanimous opinion that the model has great potential.

Summing up, it should be noted that Datsun on-Do, according to customer reviews, managed to occupy a special position in its class. High technical characteristics, affordable price for a wide range of consumers and a large list of options significantly increase its competitive advantages over analogues.

Car Datsun on-DO (correctly spelled that way, and not "un-DO", "on-DO" or "on-YES") has a sedan body. Due to its comfort and practicality, Datsun on-DO shows itself with dignity not only in urban environments, but also outside them. The model was firmly entrenched in the domestic automotive market in 2015.

As the review shows, the advantages of a sedan are suitable for energetic people with big ambitions.

Where is the sedan assembled

Datsun on-DO is assembled on an assembly line in Togliatti, respectively, and the country of origin is Russia. For the development of the model, a separate plant was allocated on the territory of the VAZ factory premises. For the production of Datsun on-DO, the latest welding complexes are used, coupled with robotic welding lines from Kuka. The plant has a robotic painting complex from Eisenmann.

The car is assembled by the hands of our citizens. The plant has a quality system program for the largest Renault-Nissan alliance and it is inappropriate to talk about hack. The collected Datsun on-DO is sent to the finished product site, where more than twenty quality control posts are held. Only after all checks the manufacturer delivers the car for sale. The employees of the plant are seriously motivated not to miss out on defects during production.

The Japanese have no complaints about the assembly.

Dimensions

According to the description, the body length of Datsun on-DO is 4337 mm, width - 1700 mm, and height - 1500 mm. The wheelbase of 2,476 mm is compensated by the headroom. It has long been no secret to anyone that budget cars produced in Togliatti and offered in the Russian Federation under the Japanese brand Datsun are nothing more than substantially revised Lada. And there is nothing Japanese here, perhaps, except for the approach to design - the very one that makes the owners of Granta and Kalina literally turn their necks at the sight of new AvtoVAZ products and wonder if they have chosen? It is definitely worth pondering, because looking at the Datsun mi-DO hatchback in profile, you will certainly recognize Kalina, and upon closer examination you realize that this is something new. Read on to learn more about what the mi-DO five-door is and how interesting it is!

Design

Having entered the Russian market in 2015 after the on-DO sedan, the mi-DO hatchback was primarily remarkable not only because of the different body type, but also due to the presence of the Jatco automatic transmission. Now the Jatco automatic transmission is also equipped with a four-door, but what curious then can a model with a flat "stern" offer? A more predatory look, at least, which is obvious if you look at the official photos of the car.

As with the on-DO, the exterior of the five-door was developed at the Nissan Design Center in Japan, under the direction of Koji Nagano. The efforts of the team from the Land of the Rising Sun paid off: mi-DO received a controversial, but unambiguously recognizable design, which cannot be confused with anything. Firstly, the hatch was equipped with the original front bumper, and secondly, it was equipped with headlights with fashionable lenses - not the same as the sedan. In addition, the car has a massive hexagonal grille with chrome edging, made in the form of a honeycomb, large informative rear-view mirrors and round "fog lights" in wide recesses. From the side, the model strongly resembles Kalina, but from the back it's something else. In the "stern" part of the body, attention is drawn to very nice vertical lamps and a large trunk lid that hides a modest volume of cargo space - only 240 liters. with the rear seats folded out.

Design

Mi-DO is based on a platform from Lada Kalina and Granta: it has MacPherson struts in front, and a twisting beam in the back. Considering that at the beginning of 2014 Kalina acquired an improved suspension, which Renault-Nissan specialists worked on, the result of its refinement is now presented as one of the advantages of Datsun mi-DO. For the sake of improving handling, Nissan engineers carried out work on installing gas-filled shock absorbers, changing the spring settings, increasing the stiffness and diameter of the anti-roll bars and increasing the ground clearance by 14 mm - up to 174 mm (when fully loaded, the clearance is 160-165 mm). The braking system is equipped with a new vacuum booster, and the gearless EUR received the original settings.

Adaptation to Russian conditions

Thanks to the 174mm ground clearance, the hatchback copes well with most obstacles on Russian roads. In order to survive the harsh Russian winter, it already has heated front seats and outside mirrors in its "base", and a heated windshield is added to the top configuration. To adapt to our realities, the Nissan also worked on vibration and noise isolation. The motor has been calibrated to improve idle stability. To optimize the exhaust system, its rear attachment point "moved" to the side member and an original flexible bellows is used. In addition, the insulation of the engine shield, wheel arches, floor, hood and luggage compartment has been revised. To improve the "Shumkov", the seals of doorways, thresholds and glass were re-laid. For manual transmission with cable drive, the profiles of the teeth of the main pair, 2nd and reverse gears have been changed.

Comfort

The mi-DO doors open wide to provide comfortable entry for passengers into the cabin. The salon is not the most spacious, but there is enough space for 5 people, and there is no need to complain about a particular lack of space above your head. The rear sofa is quite comfortable, as are the front seats, which boast a smoothly adjustable backrest. The seating and interior design is predominantly dark, with the only bright spot being the small blue Datsun logo on the huge plastic 3-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel is height adjustable only. The steering wheel clearly lacks a leather cover, and the hard plastic on the dashboard is not very pleasant to the touch.

The center console flaunts a modest-sized monochrome display of the media system with a scattering of buttons on the sides (in the top-end version, a seven-inch touchscreen is required). Above it there are simple ventilation deflectors, and below it is a climate control unit with three round-shaped regulators. The driver has a USB input for connecting mobile devices, a voluminous "glove compartment", cup holders and a simple instrument panel in the form of two analog "wells" of the speedometer and tachometer with an information screen in the middle.

The standard equipment of the hatchback includes only two airbags - for the driver and front passenger. In addition, the basic version has anti-lock braking system (ABS), emergency braking assistance (BAS) and brake force distribution (EBD). Side airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and rear parking sensors are provided only in the top version.

In pre-top configurations, "multimedia" is available with a monochrome screen, 4 speakers, a USB connector for connecting gadgets, an SD card slot, Bluetooth and Handsfree. The most expensive version has an infotainment complex with a seven-inch color touchscreen and standard navigation. The sound quality is average, the image is "four".

Datsun Mi-Do Specifications

In the engine compartment of mi-DO there is a 4-cylinder petrol "eight-valve" VAZ-11186 with a volume of 1596 cm3, producing 87 hp. and 140 Newton meters of peak torque - we are talking about an improved VAZ-11183 engine (82 hp), which is installed on the Granta and the base Datsun on-DO. 87 h.p. provided by a 39% lightweight connecting rod and piston group. The engine complies with the Euro-4 eco-standard and is combined with a five-speed "mechanics" or with a 4-speed automatic transmission from the Japanese company Jatco (a subsidiary of Nissan). The four-speed automatic transmission with the JF414E index was presented by Jatco in Japan on August 30, 2010. The drivetrain was designed specifically for small front-wheel drive models offered in emerging markets, so it is simple yet unkillable. The previous "automatic" FF4AT, by the way, became a bestseller - over 11 million copies were sold all over the world.
