All about repairing a Honda fit. Tuning Honda Fit - simple tuning methods to increase power and improve handling

Tuning Honda Fit does not require expensive accessories and special knowledge in the field of tuning. As practice shows, to increase power and improve handling, it is enough to replace some parts of the suspension and motor. Let's look at the principles of Honda refinement using the example of the 2002 model.

1 Large diameter throttle body - a way to increase the power of a car

There is some disagreement among experienced Japanese car tuning specialists about the need to replace the throttle with a Fit. Some say that such an operation does not bring significant results. Others firmly believe that replacing the damper will add power to the powertrain and reduce Honda's acceleration. The main reason for this controversy is the fact that the enlarged damper has practically no effect on cars manufactured before 2002. Regular flushing of the throttle with a high-quality cleaner will help such a car more.

However, newer Honda vehicles are equipped with naturally aspirated direct injection engines that, after increasing the throttle, deliver a more air-saturated fuel mixture. Hence, an increase in motor power by about 15% and an increase in dynamics by 10%. Ultimately, the car accelerates faster, with acceleration becoming more stable over the entire length of time until the Fit's top speed is reached.

The first thing to do for tuning is to choose the right part. There are various valves on the market with diameters from 52 to 56 mm. As practice shows, parts with a large diameter are in the greatest demand. But, as we know, the diameter of the air inlet of the standard Honda receiver is 53 mm. Therefore, a damper with a diameter of 52 mm is sufficient for him. The air that passes through such a part will fully enter the receiver, and then to the Fit motor. As for the manufacturer, this factor is not of fundamental importance. The main thing is not to take a choke without marking, since it will not bring any result.

Refinement of the throttle body of the Honda Fit

  • - simple and effective modifications for Japanese sedans and hatchbacks
  • - TOP best methods of crossover modernization
  • - how the older generation helps the younger
  • - simple improvements with a modest investment

Having decided on the part, you can start preparing the tools. For tuning a 2002 car. we will need:

  • phillips and flathead screwdrivers;
  • set of wrenches;
  • new bolts for fastening;
  • pliers;
  • cleaner type Wynn's or from another manufacturer.

First you need to disconnect the corrugation of the air duct and disconnect the wiring from the idle speed controller and throttle position sensor. The latter will need to be removed and cleaned of engine oil that clogs it when the Honda engine is running. Next, we disconnect the hoses that are connected to the damper. Remove the mechanical drive cable and unscrew the fasteners holding the Fit flap.

The next step is to clean the throttle. To do this, a new part must be treated with a cleaner, and then wipe its surface with a clean cloth. Next, we install the finished damper in a regular place near the Honda engine and collect all the removed parts in the reverse order.

Honda Fit is a compact city minivan highly demanded among competitors in the Russian market. But we must admit that this car, like the entire minivan segment, has not gained popularity in our country. And yet, there is a very stable demand for this model in the secondary market. In this regard, there is a need for self-repair, since most owners do not want to use the services of an expensive service. Self-service Honda Fit is a whole complex of works. Some of them, fortunately, you can actually do yourself. For example, change the gearbox oil. Let's take a closer look at this procedure using the example of a Honda Fit with a CVT.

When to fill

The manufacturer recommends pouring fluid into the Honda Fit gearbox, usually every 45 thousand kilometers, however, this period is often advisable to reduce to 25-30 thousand kilometers, given the unfavorable operating conditions in Russia. Climatic and road factors affect the properties of the oil in different ways. For example, when driving on dusty roads, or in severe frosty weather, the oil begins to quickly lose its beneficial properties, and thus becomes unusable. This is fraught with premature wear of the internal parts in the transmission.

What and how much to fill

The oil in the Honda Fit gearbox must be selected based on the parameters specified in the operating instructions for the car. With the available financial opportunity, first of all, you need to pay attention to the original CVT-F and HMMF oils. It is forbidden to fill the variator with oil for classic "automatic machines". Otherwise, there is a high risk of failure of the variator.

The volume of oil poured into the Honda Fit CVT is 3 liters - for both the first and second generation Fit.

Preparing for changing the oil in the variator

First you need to check the current level of the remaining liquid. To do this, you need to take how many steps:

  1. Place the car on an observation deck with access under the bottom of the car
  2. Start the engine, wait until the engine is fully warmed up, then turn off the engine. Warming up is necessary so that the oil temperature in the gearbox rises to 50-60 degrees
  3. Pull the dipstick out of the filler hole. This dipstick checks the level of the filled liquid. Wipe the dipstick with a napkin, then insert it back into the hole. Pull it out again and look at the volume: the oil trace should not exceed the Max mark on the dipstick, or, on the contrary, be less than the Max and Min marks. In this case, the fluid can simply be topped up or drained if a complete oil change is not required.

Complete oil change

  • What is needed
  • Hose
  • Funnel for filling new liquid
  • New transmission oil
  • New filters
  • Tool set including heads and wrenches
  • Rubber compressor
  • Gloves, towel
  • Container for draining waste oil

Getting started

It is important to remember that oil changes should be made only when the car is warm. It is believed that much more hot oil will pour out than in a cooled mode. In addition, there is a high probability that almost all metal shavings and other deposits will come out along with the heated oil. To warm up the engine to 60-70 degrees, it is enough to drive 10-15 kilometers around the city, allowing frequent traffic light stops and gas changes. Then you can proceed to the procedure, which consists of the following steps:

  1. Installation of the car on the overpass. Alternatively, a viewing hole or lift will do. As a last resort, you can use a jack
  2. Climb under the car and unscrew the motor protection. Then remove the dipstick located in the engine compartment. To pull it out, you need to pull the yellow ring
  3. Return under the car, and unscrew the drain plug, drain the used oil into a previously prepared container. Please note that the drain plug in the gearbox housing is unscrewed using a square
  4. The process of completely draining the liquid takes about 30 minutes
  5. In the drain plug of the gearbox housing there is a special magnet designed to attract small metal chips, which is a result of metal wear of parts in the gearbox. This swarf accumulates on the surface of the crankcase. Therefore, after dismantling, the crankcase will need to be well rinsed, cleaned and wiped dry.
  6. After waiting for the liquid to drain completely, it is necessary to wipe the drain plug from oil leaks. There is an O-ring on the plug, which must be replaced with a new element
  7. When the old oil has drained out, screw the clean plug back into the filler hole
  8. Reinstall the engine cover or crankcase
  9. The next, most important stage is the filling of new transmission oil. This procedure must be approached with all responsibility in order to avoid underfilling and overflow of liquid. The liquid should be injected gradually, periodically checking the level with a dipstick. The filled oil should be between the Max and Min marks on the dipstick. It is advisable to pour liquid through a funnel. The volume of the liquid filled in is three liters
  10. Tighten the filler plug, drive a little around the city, regularly working with the gearbox. After a few minutes, return to the observation deck, and again look at the amount of liquid poured. If the oil is normal, then the process of changing the oil in the Honda Fit CVT is successfully completed.

Currently, there is still an opinion about a certain unreliability and high susceptibility to CVT malfunctions. But a timely and correct oil change in the Honda Fit variator completely dispels this myth. The frequency of oil changes for each model is indicated in the manual attached to the car, but we advise you to slightly reduce this period due to the difficult operating conditions of the car in our conditions.

Automatic transmission variator Honda Fit

Some people prefer to perform this procedure at a service station, but it is so simple that after reading this article and watching a video, you will be able to cope with it yourself in just half an hour.

Attention! During all oil change work, be careful not to accidentally get grains of sand and dirt on the dipstick and inside the box. Otherwise, getting into the system, they begin to act like emery, and can disable it.

What kind of oil to pour?

Under no circumstances and under no circumstances should oil be poured for classic automatic transmissions, since it has different characteristics, and within a few weeks the Honda Fiat variator will be disabled.

To replace the 1st generation Honda Fit grease, you will need approximately 3.2 liters of fluid, and for the 2nd - 3.0 liters.

    Before buying a car, many people try to choose the model that will completely suit them, including in terms of technical characteristics. Some prefer an automatic transmission, some prefer a mechanical one, despite the high fuel consumption, and still others prefer a CVT, which combines the advantages of the first two gearboxes. Its advantages include low fuel consumption, no jerking when shifting gears, and the ability to transmit more torque.

    The first produced variators were not particularly reliable, but over time, the quality of production has greatly improved thanks to the use of modern equipment, technologies and materials. The oil used for such gearboxes has also undergone modernization, which made it possible to increase their service life. However, there is also a minus: it has to be changed a little more often than on manual and automatic transmissions, but all this affects the comfort and fuel economy.

    Modern models of variators installed on the Honda Fit have a running life of 200 thousand kilometers without malfunctions, however, such a gearbox operation is guaranteed by a timely oil change and careful driving. According to the technical documentation of the car, the replacement of the special fluid in the variator should be carried out every 20-30 thousand kilometers, that is, after one change of the lubricant in the engine. Minus, of course, in the absence of savings, but the "health" of the Honda Fit depends on the timely replacement.

    The downside of the variator gearbox is considered to be the difficulty of climbing uphill: if you get under way on an ascent of more than 40 degrees, the variator will skid greatly with an increase in the engine speed. It is not worth operating the Honda Fit for a long time in this mode: this can cause the box to burn out. The best option is to gently back down onto a flat section of the road and uphill from acceleration. In fact, the extra few minutes spent on the road will not play a serious role, but a lot of money will have to be paid for repairing the variator.

    When purchasing a used car, it is advisable to pay attention to the condition of the gearbox, especially if it is a variator type. It is very easy to determine the ignited variator - for this, the gas pedal is fully pressed and at the same time the behavior of the tachometer needle is monitored. With an increase in the number of revolutions to 4 thousand and maintaining the speed of the car up to 50 km / h, the probability of wear of the variator discs is high. During normal operation of the variator, the tachometer needle will rise above 2 thousand revolutions at a speed of 80 km / h, in addition, during braking and acceleration by the engine, no jerks and jerks should be recorded. If this is the case, or the tachometer needle is constantly jumping, it is likely that the expanding and squeezing discs have got scratches and scuffs, which the belt clings to.

    The quality and duration of operation of any mechanism largely depends not only on the materials of manufacture, but also on the environment in which it functions. To be sure that all the components and mechanisms of the Honda fit variator are working normally, it is enough to regularly check the lubricant level. It is carried out quite simply, the process itself does not take much time.

    The low level of special fluid in the CVT Honda Fit affects the operation of the entire system and requires an urgent change of the lubricant. It is determined by the following criteria:

    1. High vibration of the engine at idle;
    2. At the beginning of the movement, the car jerks;
    3. Slow car acceleration;
    4. The car does not move.

    Often you can face a situation when the oil level in the Honda Fit transmission is too high. This is diagnosed according to the following criteria:

    What is a scratch remover?

    We constantly receive questions in the comments about what kind of "liquid glass" means, and in general what a bunch of advertisements on auto topics are on the market now. As a result, we decided to check in practice how true this is. Let's just say we used 3 tools. One tool has proven itself so-so, after application, a burnt spot remained in this place. The second tool, when applied, showed no effect at all.

    The third remedy SILANE GUARD, at first it was felt that there would be no effect. but nevertheless, after the solution was on the surface for several minutes, the effect was excellent. Of course, not everything is as beautiful as advertised.

    Conducted a discussion at a local service station, they said that the means, yes, are effective, but they should be used only according to the instructions. And not as anyone pleases.

    1. Hard gear shifting;
    2. In the neutral position of the variator, the car continues to move forward;
    3. The appearance of third-party problems in the operation of the variator is possible.

    When checking the lubricant level in a Honda Fit variator, be careful not to get debris or foreign particles on the dipstick or dipstick tube.

    The fluid level in the Honda Fit variator is checked as follows:

    1. The car is driven onto a horizontal flat surface.
    2. The engine is started and left running until the cooling system is activated. The fan must not be restarted - in this case, when checking, the level will be higher than it actually is.
    3. It is advisable to measure the level within 60-90 seconds so that the lubricant does not cool down and its volume does not decrease.
    4. The dipstick is removed and, after cleaning, is again immersed in the hole.

    For the first-generation Honda Fit continuously variable transmission, they mainly use only original oils - HMMF or CVTF, which are the same HMMF, only produced for the American and European markets. It is better not to use other special fluids for variators.

    HMMF (CVTF) special fluids were created by Honda, and there are no other analogues of these oils. Only Honda has production rights, they have not been transferred to any other company, so only original special fluids must be used for variators of cars of this brand.

    HMMF (CVTF) contains not only coolants, but also special materials, due to which the balance of fluid parameters is maintained. In fact, the same fluid can simultaneously remove heat, lubricate rubbing parts, increase friction between the pulley and the belt, so that one does not slip into the other.

    The parameters and capabilities of the special fluid for Honda begin to “age” over time, which can result in belt slippage and other problems. The characteristics necessary for normal operation of the variator are maintained only with fresh fluid, therefore, it must be replaced regularly.

    The "aging" of the fluid used in the Honda Fit CVTs cannot be determined by eye - this is done only by analysis on special equipment. If the quality of the liquid you fill in is in doubt, it is best to simply change it.

    A complete oil change requires about 5 liters of lubricant. In addition, with each fluid change, it is advisable to change the filters located in the gearbox - one is located near the radiator or in the sump, the second is on the housing of the variator itself. However, it is still better not to use flushing - there will be more benefits from a partial replacement. In addition, it may be necessary to replace the pallet gasket, however, later models of variators are produced without it, and the oil changes in them by analogy with an automatic transmission. Some models have an external filter - the same is installed on Civic cars.

    When changing the oil, the amount of liquid filled and drained will always be approximately the same - from 3.8 to 4.6 liters. It is better to purchase a little more liquid than you need - let it remain in stock. For example, for the Honda Fit, one HMMF tank is sufficient, while the rest of the models will require two tanks.

    If the level of wear of the variator is too high, then replacement is done literally after 200-300 kilometers, but in most cases such costs are not required. Typically, one change is sufficient to determine if the transmission is working or if it can be thrown away.

    If replacing the fluid does not affect the situation in any way, then only repair remains. And here the worst begins: it is almost impossible to find spare parts for a variator for a Honda Fit. Only complete units are on sale and it is extremely rare to find a separate belt, the repair of which can solve most of the problems with the gearbox.

    A variator gearbox, in fact, is absolutely not suitable for repair, therefore, in case of breakdowns, it is advised to completely change it, and not look for parts and spare parts. Often, in such situations, they try to replace a failed box with a contract one, that is, one that has already been used. This solution turns out to be advantageous in the case of a conventional automatic transmission, but not quite suitable for a variator. Most likely, after such a replacement, the breakdowns will return after a month or two of normal driving on an initially serviceable car.

    In fact, a CVT gearbox is a good unit of a car, characterized by high quality and reliability, but requiring care and timely maintenance. Oil and filters are changed every 35-40 thousand kilometers. If the filters cannot be replaced, then a partial fluid replacement is carried out by analogy with an automatic transmission.

    The Honda Fit CVT is a very capricious "machine of the future", which requires special care and operation and does not tolerate sudden braking, acceleration and prolonged movement at speeds over 120 km / h.

    CVT oil change information

    To change the lubricant in the Honda Fit variator, you will need the following tools:

    • Hose or tube;
    • Funnel;
    • Key with 9 square heads.

    If you don't have a suitable key at hand, you can take a regular 12 key and bore it on emery under a square shape. The tube is used for convenience and is intended to be inserted into the dipstick hole.

    The oil in the Honda Fit variator is changed as follows:

    1. It is advisable to raise the car above the inspection pit - this will make it easier and more convenient to work. The drain plug is carefully unscrewed, the old oil is drained from the variator into a previously prepared container. You need to drain as much liquid as it drains - you do not need to "shake out" more of it from the car. To prevent oil from spilling over the entire box and splashing in different directions, you can stick gum near the drain plug - the liquid will drain gently along it. The magnet built into the drain plug is thoroughly cleaned of dirt, after which the plug is returned to its rightful place.

    It is necessary to fill in new oil through the hole into which the oil dipstick is inserted, using a previously prepared funnel and a hose. The level is checked with a dipstick for hot and cold engines. The remaining small amount is usually added to the box after the vehicle has traveled several kilometers after replacement. This is done quite simply: about half a liter of liquid is drained, and a clean one is poured.

    The next replacement in the variator must be carried out after 35-40 thousand kilometers. It is advisable to change the filters and clean the drain plug with a magnet at the same time as pouring clean liquid. As a rule, a large variator filter for such a service life of a car is practically not contaminated, while a flow filter, or a small one, requires urgent replacement due to accumulated dirt. The frequency of installing new filters largely depends not only on the manufacturer's recommendations, but also on the mode of operation of the vehicle.

    Before proceeding with the procedure for replacing the special fluid in the Honda CVT box, you must carefully study the technical documentation of the car and the manufacturer's recommendations.

    Changing the lubricant in the automatic transmission of the car

    My life is not only connected with cars, but also with repair and maintenance. But I also have a hobby like all men. My hobby is fishing.

    I started a personal blog where I share my experience. I try a lot of things, various methods and ways to increase the catch. If interested, you can read it. Nothing more, just my personal experience.

    Improving the Honda Fit does not require expensive accessories and special tuning knowledge. As practice shows, to increase power and improve handling, it is quite enough to replace some parts of the suspension and motor. Let's look at the principles of Honda refinement using the example of the 2002 model.

    1

There are various dampers on the market with diameters ranging from 52 to 56 mm.

    Having decided on the part, you can start preparing the tools. For tuning a 2002 car. we will need:

    • phillips and flathead screwdrivers;
    • set of wrenches;
    • new bolts for fastening;
    • pliers;
    • cleaner type Wynn's or from another manufacturer.

    First you need to disconnect the corrugation of the air duct and disconnect the wiring from the idle speed controller and. The latter will need to be removed and cleaned of engine oil that clogs it when the Honda engine is running. Next, we disconnect the hoses that are connected to the damper. Remove the mechanical drive cable and unscrew the fasteners holding the Fit flap.

    The next step will be. To do this, a new part must be treated with a cleaner, then wipe its surface with a clean rag. Next, we install the finished damper in a regular place near the Honda engine and collect all the removed parts in the reverse order.

    2

    Experienced craftsmen advise to supplement the replacement of the throttle with the installation of a zero filter. Thus, even more air will get to the engine, making it more powerful and more dynamic. Tuning of this kind does not require a lot of experience, but you should be very careful when choosing a replacement part. As practice shows, in the case of the Fit model, the best option would be to buy a zero. Specter HPR 0351, costing about 2 thousand rubles. This filter has blades of the optimal size, which completely removes dust from the air.

    Another good model for a 2002 Honda is 76mm filters from the firm K&N... When buying products from this company, you should pay attention to the price. If it is higher than 2.5 thousand rubles, then this is an original part. If the cost is less, then most likely it is a fake.

    Honda Fit with zero filter

    After purchasing the item, you can proceed to tuning the car. From the tools we need a flat and Phillips screwdriver, a set of wrenches and pliers. First, we disconnect the wiring from the standard DFID Fit. Using a flat screwdriver, remove the rubber plug from the sensor pipe. We unscrew the DFID fasteners holding the latter over the standard Honda filter. Carefully remove the air filter and use pliers to pry out the rubber plugs from the part body.

    Next, you need to unscrew the ground wire fixing screws from the standard Honda cylinder head. We assemble the mounting bracket for the new filter and screw 2 bolts into it from the mounting of the fuel flow sensor. Install a zero filter under the DMRV and slightly tighten the clamp. We connect both elements with the remaining fasteners and continue to use the Fit. After tuning the car in 2002 it will become much more agile. Plus, the Fit's engine won't get that hot. In addition, the car will start to consume a little less fuel.

    3

    After refining the Fit's power unit, it's time to improve the car's suspension. As a modernization of this part of Honda, professionals advise paying attention to the purchase and installation of wishbones. The latter are an integral rigid assembly that does not lend itself to deformation. Such designs are installed instead of the standard suspension arms and guy wires. So what do wishbones do, and why is this Fit tuning option worth considering?

    First of all, the wishbones of the front suspension are needed to improve the handling of the Honda. They significantly reduce fluctuations in the angles of the undercarriage of the machine during its operation. This is done according to a very simple principle: the mechanism changes the direction of the loads on the front panel of the Fit from longitudinal to transverse. With the added stiffness between the front beam and where the side member is attached to the body, the wishbones greatly enhance the stability of the Honda chassis geometry.

    Honda Fit with improved suspension

    Anyone can install parts on the Fit. For tuning, you need a jack, a screwdriver and a removable wrench. First, raise the front of the Honda on a jack. We unscrew the ball joints, remove the standard sabers and "crabs" of the car's suspension. In the wishbone mechanism, the castor can be adjusted using clutches. Therefore, during the installation process, you need to make sure that each of the levers stands between the "crab" and the body. At the same time, you should not get any tensions on the Fit body elements. The existing washers must be laid between the lever and the silent block. As a result, the latter should rest against the far wall of the body. After tuning, you will need to do wheel alignment.

    The result of the work done will surprise you almost immediately. You will notice how much better the management of your Fit has become. The 2002 car will now respond more quickly to steering wheel commands and will become more stable both on turns and on a straight track.

    At the present time, there is still an opinion about a certain unreliability and high susceptibility to CVT malfunctions. But the timely and correct replacement of the Honda Fit completely dispels this myth. The frequency of oil changes for each model is indicated in the manual attached to the car, but we advise you to slightly reduce this period due to the difficult operating conditions of the car in our conditions.

    Some people prefer to perform this procedure at a service station, but it is so simple that after reading this article and watching a video, you will be able to cope with it yourself in just half an hour.

    The next appearance of this shocking city car in a new "fur coat" made a splash. After all, the model was created in the new corporate style of Honda, which is literally designed to "shock and surprise". The new design from the Japanese corporation is based on three fundamental principles:

    Exceptionally high-tech, in keeping with the spirit of Honda;
    the heat of passion, which emphasizes the beauty of the body lines;
    Feelings come first, as they are reflected in every detail of the vehicle's interior.

    It is planned that in the future, similar features of appearance will spread to the entire line of Honda cars, but for now it remains only to mentally try them on to familiar models. Indeed, for Russian buyers, the Honda FIT will not arrive soon. Its sales started in Japan only at the end of 2013, and in 2014, sales began in the United States. The future of the model in other markets is uncertain, because earlier this modification was identical to the Honda Jazz for our region. However, already now the updated version can be purchased from "gray dealers". Of course, the question of the expediency of such a purchase remains open, but what can't you do for the sake of something new and beautiful?

    Expressive features

    The car retained the same single-volume body from its B-class predecessor. The airy upper rests firmly on massive base contours and small wheels. The body is dissected by "gull-wings" optics, which creates an aggressive and at the same time cute appearance. Hidden inside is an equally futuristic front touchpad with navigator and automatic air conditioning. At the same time, its interface is not burdened with an abundance of controls and buttons - everything is done no more complicated than a mobile phone. The comfortable interior has retained its character and layout, but the quality of the finish has improved. Its simple and clear lines will satisfy even drivers who spend their time behind the wheel of a higher class car. Thanks to the new seat transformation system, they now take less time to lay and the driver's seat has more adjustments.

    Equipment

    On the local market, a car is sold with two gasoline engines:

    100-horsepower 1.3 liter unit;
    1.5 liter 130 horsepower engine.

    These new naturally aspirated water-cooled engines are equipped with a five-speed manual transmission or CVT. For 970 kg Honda Fit, this thrust-weight ratio is more than enough. The powerplant camshaft is driven by a timing chain, not a belt.

    The dimensions of the car have not undergone significant changes and are now 3955 × 1695 × 1550 mm with a ground clearance of 13.5 cm.For Russia, such a clearance, of course, is not enough, but, most likely, it will be changed with the start of official sales. Let's note the main advantages of this small car:

    The proven variator for 5 gears has proven itself perfectly, its shifting is smooth and timely. When the car is equipped with paddle shifters, the comfort when changing gears in manual mode increases by an order of magnitude.
    Responsive control with a modest size is a huge plus.
    Decent acceleration dynamics - when you press the accelerator pedal, it will take no more than 10 seconds to the first hundred.
    Practical transforming salon.

    Protection from an inexperienced driver looks very appropriate in Honda FIT:

    It is possible to change gear before starting movement only when the brake is depressed.
    This car will be appropriate for regular use when traveling to and from work, even in a metropolitan area. Of course, you can't count on respect on our roads in it, but the new Honda Fit will not remain without the attention of others.
