I grew and brought up at the time when the car was still luxurious, and not a means of movement. Although in the 1980s, we had enough people who could calmly buy, for example, "Volga" (GAZ-24) for 16 thousand rubles, although the average salary was then somewhere 150-180 rubles. This is the workers. I relate to the workers, and therefore my first car in the distant 1990 was "Moskvich-408", with a huge box of details and spare parts. Then they were "Zhiguli", well, and then all sorts of cheap, not at the best of the formark. I am a clone that I did all kinds of repair myself, therefore, in most cases on my own mistakes. Then, working as a car mechanic, learned to cook, sink a bit, well, and at least have an idea of \u200b\u200ban internal combustion engine. Provided the skills of independent manufacture of parts and fit them at place. And this creativity liked more and more ... I wanted to create! But for this, alas, there were no means and conditions.

But all of them united one thing - they were homemade, not like everyone else. In short, they differed! They were like foreign cars like cars of the future and built by simple people, in garages, sheds, and some even in apartments. As they say, "on the knee". So here I want to add one thing: it can be seen, somewhere at that time I got sick with all this. I wanted to create, wow, as I wanted.

It did not work because of the circumstances of the time. But somewhere in the year 2004 I started trying, in the sense, it's just about any free time to twist, cook, draw, saw and boil again, until it fell on the wheels and did not go. But it turned out, in my opinion, horror.

First damn ... you know

Now I want to talk a little about love. About love precisely to the gland or a specific car brand. I will not walk around and about - I love Willys. Yes, this particular Military American car from the distant 1943 is. All-wheel drive military car. Car soldier. So I saw him in the magazine "Model-Designer" for 1993. I do not know what she wonked me, probably forms of the body, the grille of the radiator, can be a huge popularity worldwide so far. It is possible, its purpose, a small contribution to the victory, simplicity, reliability and a huge love of front-line chauffeur, soldiers and commanders. Just love for SUVs or something else, which I myself do not know, but has all this car in my head all this car was in my head. We all love Jeep Wrangler, and therefore, and Willys, it was from this car that they all started. Until now, the Indian company Mahindra does something very similar to that, military Willys. Imitate this brand (or rather, Willys MB) also SsangYong and many other small firms.

Before proceeding to the disassembly of the donor, I drove a couple of circles around the garages. There was this late autumn 2010. Then everything started. The body with a frame was shot somewhere, somewhere cut off, and sometimes I just took a sledgehammer. But at the same time, good body parts were shot and folded into a bunch. Now the frame opens. Engine, box, crushing, cardan, bridges. Everything seems to be normal. So then it seemed, but as it turned out later - not quite.

Further, of course, everything was shot from the frame, figured out and as soon as possible in the garage in a corner, snacks and shelves. Rama cut and thrown out. Mistake! I continue to study on them, but what can you do if there was no one else, no one suggested, and there are no places in the garage and a lot to storage. In general, I threw it, and sorry, the frame was good.

The car was born in the garage

Everything, now went another stage. Drawings and templates. In general, the drawings were especially and there was not, only frames, and then on the scale, all of the same magazine "Model-designer" for 1993. In front of me there was a challenging task - to the maximum to enter the "Gazika" aggregates in the size of Willys. It turned out, but not quite. The trouble is that the donor bridges are wider than centimeters by 30 than the original. But I hurried and therefore did not cut them. Also, when making a frame and body, I really wanted to save all the proportions of Willys and that all this had not looked huge. But still, according to the bridges, he turned out to be wider, and in the length of the body, too, really not much.

However, back to the frame. It seems sketches and drawings are ready, the search and the moment of buying a new material has come. Found. Bought. Brought. I also want to say that all purchases are confirmed by checks, well, just in case.

Special thanks to my garage friends and comrades who helped who could. Sometimes even a dozen buckets of M6 pleased more than in the heat of ice cream. There was already cool in the garage, but the job is better to argue. So when I looked at the frame, bridges, the engine, in the head there were sketches crossing and beams. Made, welded and mistaken. But about this later. Further, the brackets springs and the springs themselves went.

The next stage is bridges. Here, too, I had to "be woozy", since both cars fastening bridges to springs are different. Again Bulgarian, welding, drilling. Also alteration of the stepladder and fit them at the place. Well, it seems to happen. Fresh bridges, and now the frame is in the right position and on the wheels. Almost ready car. Even riding a garage, wow how nice!

In terms of the group of comrades from our row, a serious drawback is found - the frame is weak on twisting. That is, putting the effort, you can change the horizon of the front bumper in relation to the rear. Again, dozens of cutting, a pair of enrollled circles, expanded electrodes, SMRAra, stench, smoke and fog, but about a miracle! - Rama strengthened, not "plays" and does not turn.

Next Stage: Engine, Box, Distribution and Cardana. Unfortunately, I had to give up the box and distribution of GAZ-69 and put this node from the UAZ. This is due to the fact that the last box and distribution make up one whole and occupy a length of less than the place, which is very important to save the desired size of the car. It's a pity. The Gazika, in its three-speed box, gear ratios are better selected for the native motor.

I will not describe the manufacture, fitting the engine brackets with a checkpoint, fit cardanov. By the way, in no one of them, the factory size is not disturbed, it ranked only with one error: one of the crossbar simply interfered with the rear kardan. That I did not take into account in advance. But, having gathered with thoughts, I solved the problem of installing in the middle of the crossbar of a powerful oval, through which the Kardan itself passes now.

Next steering gearbox. He - without any interventions on my part, like the entire brake system as a whole. The only thing that had to be done is to set the desired angle of the steering column, is to install a crosslinor from the UAZ to the steering shaft. Everything worked out. Everything spins and turns.

Now I'm getting distracted by this topic and explain to readers where I find it at this time. I am an individual entrepreneur, engaged in freight. When the frame has gained completion, having received all the nodes and aggregates, I even started the engine. I want to tell you about him separately. His sound is just a song, that is, it is simply not heard. The lower location of the valves, the thoughtfulness of the design at that time, naturally, makes it be surprised at its work. I started the body from the base of the floor. It was just a subframe, which gradually began to turn panels, sides, openings. Everything got bent without any special devices. At the cottage, in a quarry, on testing

A funny case occurred in the country. The car was in the stage of not complete readiness, but the running tests have already been possible. Of course, people saw, fit and interested. I told everyone that the car is completely homemade. And to the question of one eccentric: "Where did you get the" face "?" - I had to answer that from America was sent under the order. He, of course, was surprised, asked, did they still produce them there. Yes, I say, they are released and sent here. Although "Morda", I think I did not work well. The "eyes" under the subharbones, and putty still have to work. When compared with the original it is noticeable that the radiator grille is slightly incorrect. Well, okay, as is.

The body, of course, was still not ready, there was no floor and many other details. But with all this, nothing interfered with the fuel pump and carburetor to process gasoline from plastic flasks into the energy of movement on the ground paths of our cottages. The machine even managed to work on construction as a browser of sand. Its homemade trailer is quietly placed at least 500 kg. Turn on reduced gear and carry load at all speeds. In general, I was pleased and lived with thoughts about the speedy return to the garage and subsequent work.

In the process, I got acquainted with interesting people, they in turn got acquainted with someone. So I met a man, a colleague, owner of the present Willys. He was quite surprised by learning that my car was made simply on sketches and drawings. I worried that I did not get acquainted with Vladimir before, since the ability to see his car live would help to avoid many mistakes.

In the fall made the frame of the windshield and painted the car in black, since all the shortcomings on the body will still be eliminated. By stepping something on the chassis and transmission, I again gotten into the country, in a quarry, for testing. Some flaws on the chassis were revealed. When loading and the vest in the pit at the speed, the suspension breaks (running forward, I will say that this year these problems are eliminated). Shock absorbers installed on the front axle, the stirrub is correctly located. Now they are inverted with nuts down, as it should. And the bridge does not reach the bridge. Of course, if you fly to a hole at high speed, then it can break the suspension, but I have not yet installed bumps - it's all ahead.

The only thing that was done for the winter is the rear seats and windshields. The "Triplex" glasses were ordered by one company. At home, in the kitchen and warm, pasted at the place, well, and then the work of the technology.

A very important detail of this car is a shovel and an ax from the driver. Things not only give some charm, but also very useful. After all, it is no secret that the wicker the SUV is, the hardest to pull it out. It has already happened to me. Gradually, the car acquired completion and became similar to Willys. All oils were replaced, lubricant crosses and hinges. We rushed into battle.

Holidays are approaching, May 9th. In honor of the Victory Day, "Dudutka" held an event for which we were invited. We participated in the formulation of historical events of the Second World War. There were explosions, shooting, levitan speech, a low-grade plane, again explosions and shooting, in general wartime. Occupation, Germans. Then there was a victory, capturing all the same Germans, demonstrations of paratroopers from Marina Gorki. Many wanted to take pictures and ride on our car. This is the 6th international king of lovers of classic and retro factors. Thanks to my daughter and her efforts, we were invited there and looked forward to the start of the event. I will only say that for the sake of this it was worth stitching in the garage, knock off the hands and hurry, going to the target target.

Driving around the city in a column of retro factors, and even at the very beginning under the 4th number, to feel the mass of the delight of others, the atmosphere of the holiday is very interesting and pleasant. In itself, participation in this kill meant a lot. I remember the words of some guys. I want to tell about my plans. Of course, the car is not yet completed. There will be awning, frame under the awning, side handles. I'm still going to put out and paint. I dream to put a car for accounting. I know that we are almost impossible to register a self-made car, although it was possible to register a few people and I know them. Andrei Onischuk, a programmer engineer from Minsk, a year and a half ago I decided to give my son to Ivan for the birthday of a children's electric car. But those options that were on sale in Belarus, Russia and even China, Andrei did not suit - the reserve of the stroke is small, there is no similarity with real samples, and the quality of materials from which cars are made, leaves much to be desired.

There were thoughts on the basis of such a serial electric vehicle. But after a detailed study, it turned out that the electric focus is cheap and poor-quality, the needs of the engineer did not satisfy. Then Andrei, together with the son of Ivan and decided to create a car itself, the benefit of specialized sites like-minded people. After three months, the reduced electric car Willys MB was ready.

"I started from the wheels, and the rest undergo you caught"

Andrei, an experienced programmer engineer, began to create a gift for a son with thinking concepts, sets of calculations and drawing a 3D model. Serious was the decision on the principle of operation - a gasoline or electric motor to put. As a result, the master stopped in the second version. Still, this is a children's car, not maps or quad bikes. Yes, and it was most often planned to use it in the parks of culture and recreation. What gasoline in such places can we talk about?

On the design of the body of the future model in the computer program, Andrei took only five days. "It was the simplest," the engineer is sure. But on drawing a frame, steering trapezoid, rear axle, drive and other details had to spend about three weeks. And before that, two weeks - to buy the necessary components. At that time, the project was already in the head of the engineer.

"Because of such a rush, it turned out that I bought a lot of extra details," the man remembers. - Because you keep one in my head, then you buy parts for it, and then another comes, the best solution. And again you start again. So it can last to infinity, the main thing is to stop in time. The most difficult to find suitable on the diameter and pattern of the wheel tread. I found similar in the usual Stroyarket. They were called - wheels from agricultural machinery. I do not know where they were used, but at that time they were fully fit. Already under the size of these wheels, a frame and body was created. In fact, due to the wheel, the scale of the machine turned out one to two. This is a very large size for children's toys.

In the interruptions between the main work, Andrei Onishchuk cooked a frame, made steering bumps. All parts and nodes are almost exactly copied from real cars. To create a body, the engineer used the waterproof 12-mm Phaneur, cut it with a hydroabrasive - a stream of water under high pressure, and painted with ordinary automotive paint. And after all the schemes and drawings were ready, and parts were purchased, work began on the incarnation of ideas in reality.

"I tried to prepare every detail as much as possible to collect the car as soon as possible. So it turned out - the body and frame with the mechanical part were collected in one day. With smoking and lunch break. At some point, there was a thought that there may be problems when assembling, since each detail was made individually without fitting at the place. But it turned out great - all the details up to a millimeter came together. Computer design - thing!

Children's car began to enjoy similarity with the present Willys. And although the electric part has not yet been established, Vanya spent the first test drive at the same evening. Instead of the engine, the Muscular Pope Andrei Pope.

Now the car is driven by two engines on 36V 350W, the maximum speed is about 12 kilometers per hour. Rear shaft cut, provides independent rotation of the wheels. In fact, this is a copy of the inter-axis differential of all-wheel drive SUVs. There is also a blocking toggle switch. Electric motors are connected to the controller sequentially, thereby implementing the principle of the differential, and with the help of the above-mentioned toggle, they can be connected in parallel, receiving "blocking". Also in the car there is a remote "parental control" in the form of a keyhead so that you can turn off the power at a distance of up to 50 meters. The power source is four batteries from uninterruptible power units. You can charge them without removing batteries with a car, using a re-equipped connector from a computer power supply - so as not to confuse polarity.

Another car is equipped with LED headlights, overall lights, there are even working turn signals, alarm and stop signals. And when moving with a reverse course, in addition to the outbreak light of the reverse lamp, the sound buzzer is triggered.

"Neighbors thought I decided to save"

"Relatives and acquaintances reacted to the idea of \u200b\u200bcreating a children's electric car ambiguously," the father-designer recalls. - There were even such opinions: I decided to save it and instead of a good factory car machine to do. I only smiled in response. In total, $ 1,200 was spent on making mini willys. This is only the cost of spare parts and materials. What kind of savings can we talk about? But I did not think about the ultimate cost then, I was important to contact with the child in the process of work. After the car was ready, he was planned to leave on her in the parks of the capital. The premiere of homemade Willys MB was supposed to take place on May 9 last year. But Vanya fell ill, and the car remained waiting for its o'clock in the garage at the test.

"We were very well upset then," recalls Andrei. - The front-line military form was sewn to order for Vanechka. And then Otitis. But then we felt the support of completely unfamiliar people, the forum. At that time I had already created a branch about this car on a specialized forum, where he told about each stage of creation. And here I began to come, people regretted that we would not be on the holiday and we would not be able to see. Therefore, we decided by anything to come to the Palace of Sports in Minsk on this Willys on July 3, when Independence Day was celebrated.

But here they waited for the first disappointment. Andrei, Ivan and their Willys did not want to miss the city center to the city center, where the celebration came, police officers. They twisted the car from all sides, admired her, but no one was decided to make a decision for skipping ...

- Back road was not - I gave my son a promise that we ride at the festival. Therefore, I began to act more decisively. He asked to invite the older from the police or spend me to him. He also carefully studied everything, asked to demonstrate the car in motion to make sure that all the details of the workers were not having any danger to others, and allowed us to skip for the holiday. And on the holiday we were already waiting for virtual acquaintances, and other people were approached. Everyone admired the car, and Vanya proudly told the children (and adults) about his car.

Although there were cases. For example, traffic police inspectors, seeing the car on the site, was a joke recommended to undergo inspection and pay insurance. They said that such both on the way of general use is not ashamed to produce. And the kids escaped from grandmothers or mothers and fled to the car of Oth Bush. And those accompanying enough kids by arms and took away away from the electric vehicle.

- Thought that we would ask you for money for a photo near Willys or for riding on it. But we immediately explained: it's all for free! Take pictures, rideways to health - the holiday after all! There was no feather from children, but how many friends appeared at Vani right away! But the happy eyes of my son is the highest assessment of my work. So, no wonder we did it. Free, that is, for nothing

But this is not the last project of Andrei Onychuk - I still could not stop a man. Now he is working on a new Willys-2 car. In the future - the creation of a universal frame design to which you can install various bodies.

- "Ivan-Willisami" called GAZ-67 in the war. Therefore, we plan to make the Body GAZ-67B with their Ivan. And there, maybe you will produce anything else.

According to Andrei, the frame of the new children's electric car also underwent significant changes - for example, suspension. Front semi-dependent with polyurethane silent blocks and one, common, shock absorber. Rear - rubber-burning as a kind of torsion. New wheels appeared - an accurate copy of those that were installed on military SUVs. They helped find them, again, forum users. There is still plans to create a folding tarpaulin roof, as in the real car.

The most serious change in the design of the new Willys MB is the installation of a new controller and DC neclector motors (BLDC). As a constructor's constructor and engineer, an updated car will have a smart reverse (so that the child has no opportunity to turn on the rear transmission on the go), the recovery brake (braking engine with the return of energy back into the battery, in this case disc brakes perform the role of spare), cruise - Control and differential with blocking. The controller can connect via Bluetooth to a smartphone or PC for fine tuning. The plans still make the similarity of ESP and ASR. When the car is ready, Andrei is difficult to answer.



"One is already there, so we are not in a hurry, we do everything qualitatively, not counting forces and means. Where is the first project after the completion of the new one? I have not thought about it yet. I have a lot of friends and relatives with children, and it is not going to stop at what has been achieved - we plan to actively work on improving the demographic situation in the country. Therefore, I will not sell it for sure. Although proposals for the sale arrived repeatedly. Those who are really interested and seen the entire amount of work performed - assessed adequately. Granted several times the amount spent on parts. But there were always those who tried to "bargain" and compared a unique redundant Willys MB with Chinese cars, whose motors from the screwdrivers.

But Children Willys is a non-commercial project, and I'm not going to sell anything. And people were interested, I saw it. - There is always the one who will do cheaper, "the engineer sums up. - You can use the usual instead of waterproof plywood. Purpose and reference

At the beginning of the project, we decided to create a model for AAA-game with high-quality PBR textures. We wanted the car to look realistic, and not stylized, and was ready for Riga and animation. High poly model

Many specialists disagree in opinions regarding approach to modeling. At first we created the main forms, and then switched to smaller. In most cases, it is best to create elements from sheet metal from a plane. To better control the process and not get confused in the polygons, we always work with a simple grid. We use this approach at all stages of creating a model.

For example, let's see how we created a tire. We started with a plane on which one bus sector was modeled. Since this pattern is repeated 80 times, we simply made the required number of copies.

Using the Weld function, we combined all the elements and added two bend modifiers. The first is needed to make the surface of the tire convex, and the second is to create a circle from the plane. Last but we used Weld Vertices. If you have difficulty circuit difficulties, add RESET Xform and correctly set the object's beer before using the Bend modifier.

As a result, we got this tire:

Objects created from the fabric (for example, the seat upholstery or the gear lever cover) is best done in Zbrush. Before exporting a high-poly model from Zbrush, use Decimation Master. It will significantly reduce the polygonzh without visual distortion, which will simplify the process of designing textures.


Low poly model

Having received feedback on high-poly model, we have introduced the last edits and moved to the creation of Lo-poly. If the topology of the model is correct, all you need to do is delete supporting Eji and optimize the object so that its polyg adjoints is minimal.

For example, the body of a jeep in the low poly version is a large monoblock, whereas for high-poly-poly modeling it is more efficient to use a greater number of items to avoid possible difficulties in the future. Let's look at the example:

Model A: You see that the topology is suitable for the cube, but it creates hard faces on the plane and at the base of the cube. The solution to the problem may be the addition of a cube as a separate element (B), but then there will be a lack of chamfer in the connection site of the cube with a plane. If the existence of the transition between two forms is important, and you cannot use additional EJ magnifier, then you can create a chamfer geometry separately (C).

Scan model

Before texturing you need to create a scan. Below you see the density of pixels on various elements of the model. The smaller the size of the checker, the higher the density. For example, when weeping, we left more space on small plates with text than most of the other parts of the jeep combined.


Baking textures

Before baked, you need to make sure that you followed the following rules:

  • Suts UV-sweep make taking into account the topology of the object.
  • Smoothing groups are assigned to use UnWrap modifier.
  • Use the Explode command to the Low and High-poly models to avoid artifacts.

After Explode, we exported both models in format.FBX and baked them in Xnormal.

Even if you did everything right, artifacts may still occur. To correct the situation, you can create multiple normal cards and compound them in Photoshop. With the help of masks, select those parts that bought good. So you will receive a texture card without artifacts.

We downloaded the map of the standards and the model of the jeep in format.FBX in the Substance Painter and baked additional cards - Ambient, Curvature, World Space, Position and Thickness. Instead of bakeing on a high-poly model, we used the imported map of the normal, because all its artifacts have already adjusted. Thus, we warned the occurrence of artifacts on additional maps.

When baking additional cards from the standards of standards, do not forget to remove the checkbox with Normal and notify Use Low Poly Mesh As High Poly Mesh.

Texture

Thanks to the references, we understood what materials a jeep was made, what is their structure where the dirt is going, what the detailing of surfaces looks like and which parts of the car are most susceptible to damage. For texturing, we used Substance Painter 2.6.2.

Before importing a jeep in Substance Painter, we divided the UV scan to two texture set - a jeep (opaque material) and windows + light (translucent material).

Later we realized that it would be more practical to make more UV cards for the jeep. This speeds up texturing and improves control over work quality.

We are starting texturing from the purpose of basic materials. You can use those that are on the shelf or download them on. At first, we have appointed every element of the jeep (body, wheels, seats) only one material - metal, sheet metal, rubber, plastic, leather, etc., and created 18 basic groups.

We have turned out the first version of the materials. To save the logic of texturing, we went from the macro to the microstructure. In other words, we first decided on materials, and then add a detail.

So we organized layers in the "Seat" group:

Thanks to the generators, you can quickly and easily create masks, getting the opportunity to instantly assess visual changes. Although for us at this stage it all started.

We wanted to make our model unique. With the help of brushes and projections, we crossed the masks. Thus, they no longer looked generated and made at random.

Quality textures for masks add realism models. Below you see examples of the textures we used:

Presentation and render

To determine the presentation of the model, we used the references of concepts and photos of cars. It helped us choose the position of the camera and the lighting of the jeep. For render, we used VRay.

At first we could not get the best color and settings. By trial and errors, we developed the following rules:

  • In the Gamma and Lut settings, set the Gamma Correction to 2.2, check the GAMMA / LUT, AFFECT COLOR SELECTOR and MATERIAL EDITOR.
  • Export textures from Substance Painter with settings for VRAY. Use the format.tif 16bit.
  • Import Diffuse card in 3DS MAX CO value Override 2.2.
  • Import the remaining textures with the value of Gamma Override 1.0 (Normal, Glossiness, Reflection, Ior, Height).
  • In the BRDF parameters, select Microfacet GTR (GGX) - only for new VRAY versions.
  • Turn on the Glossy Fresnel effect in the VRAY Material Settings.
  • You can use the Height texture as a disclacement card, but it will require more memory resources when rendering.

We used two VRAYLIGHT lamps, and one VrayLightDome with a connected HDRI card to create realistic reflections.

Summarizing

There is no "best" or "universal" way to create a game model. If you replace at least one program in PiPlay, it will lead to a significant change with its strong and weak parties. The main thing is the final result.
