Hyundai Elantra V generation MD. The main advantages of Elantra

For Russia, Elantra was offered in several trim levels. The basic sedan has an on-board computer, air conditioning, steel 15-inch wheels, front power windows, heated front seats, a center armrest, an alarm with a remote control, a trunk net for securing a load and a full-size spare wheel. A CD / MP3 player with AUX and USB sockets was available for all trim levels, as well as iPod connectivity, six speakers, steering wheel controls and an active antenna in the rear window. The Optima package included an automatic driver's glass mode, rear power windows, front fog lights, leather steering wheel and gear knob, armrest adjustable for reach, alloy wheels with a diameter of 16 inches. The Comfort package includes dual-zone climate control, an anti-fogging system for windows with an air ionizer, aluminum pedals, and for cars with automatic transmission, an optical instrument panel (Supervision). The Sport version included heated front and rear seats, keyless entry and push button start, a dedicated black chrome grille, red fabric / leather seats combined with only white, silver, red or black exterior colors.

For Russia, the Elantra was equipped with two gasoline engines: the Nu series with a volume of 1.8 liters and 150 hp. (178 Nm) and the 1.6-liter Gamma series with 132 hp (158 Nm). The characteristics of the base 1.6 Gamma unit with variable valve timing are such that, in combination with a manual 6-speed gearbox, it accelerates the Elantra sedan to 100 km / h in 10.7 seconds, with a 6-speed automatic in 11.6 seconds. The maximum speed is 200 and 195 km / h. The 1.8 Nu engine has an all-aluminum block, variable phases and a variable intake manifold. Together with the "mechanics", it accelerates the sedan to a hundred in 9.3 seconds, and with the "automatic" - in 10.5. "Maximum speed" - 205 and 203 km / h. Gasoline consumption can be called modest - in the combined cycle from 6.1 to 7.1 liters per 100 km.

The Hyundai Elantra sedan has a front-wheel drive layout. The suspension of the car is a combination of an independent MacPherson suspension with a stabilizer bar at the front and a semi-independent spring at the rear. The brakes on the Hyundai Elantra are disc brakes (ventilated in front). Other features include a new electric power steering, tires with low rolling resistance (standard 195 / 65R15, optional 205 / 55R16 or 215 / 45R17). The dimensions of the fifth generation Hyundai Elantra are 4530 x 1775 x 1445 mm (L x W x H). The wheelbase of the car is 2700 mm, and the ground clearance is 15 centimeters. The new body made the interior of the car more spacious. The developers took care of creating comfort when landing: the driver's seat is adjustable in height, has adjustments for reach and height, and a steering column. Thanks to this, people with a height of up to 190 cm can sit as comfortably as possible, there is plenty of legroom in the back, but the piled-up pillars reduce the height of the already low roof. The trunk volume is 420 liters. To increase the volume of the luggage compartment, the backrests of the rear seats can be folded forward - the second row is folded in a 60/40 ratio.

In the basic version for the Russian market, the standard safety features of the Hyundai Elantra 2010-2013 include two front airbags, ABS and a brake force distribution (EBD) system, an immobilizer, Isofix mounts and child locks. The Optima will add front side airbags and curtain airbags for the first and second rows of seats. The Comfort version is best equipped - there is an electronic stability control system (ESP), a rain sensor. The special Sport version includes auto-dimming rearview mirrors and a rearview camera, steering wheel-controlled cruise control, light sensor.

The fifth generation Hyundai Elantra makes quite a strong impression with its completely changed exterior and interior, which have nothing in common with its predecessor. According to the general opinion of experts and owners, a sporty look and improved equipment allow you to buy "more car for the same money." However, in dynamics, the Elantra is far from being as sporty as it looks, the owners have complaints about the lack of headroom in the back, the quality of materials and paintwork, and a drop in the resale price.

The fifth generation Hyundai Elantra (MD) was first introduced in April 2010. At home, in South Korea, Elantra (real name Avante, including for Malaysia) went on sale in November 2010. At the same time, the new Elantra was presented in the USA at the Auto Show in Los Angeles. A year later, Hyundai Elantra entered the market of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Israel (under the name i35) and a number of European countries, including Russia. In 2011, the updated Elantra, having sold 1 million 10 thousand copies, became the second among the best-selling cars of the year, yielding first place to Toyota Corolla - 1 million 20 thousand copies. Among the merits of Hyundai Elantra MD is the title of "Car of the Year 2012" according to the Detroit "Auto Show", South African and Philippine International Auto Shows. The popular Ford Focus and Volkswagen Passat remained behind.

Engines

Korean Avante is equipped exclusively with GDI gasoline engines with a working volume of 1.6 liters of the Gamma series with an output of 140 hp. (G4FD). According to the experience of operating similar Mitsubishi engines, many owners fear the failure of the high-pressure fuel pump with a mileage of more than 100-150 thousand km and subsequent expensive repairs. The main reason is low-quality fuel, which leads to the appearance of deposits on the working surfaces of the pump and wear of its elements. So far, no cases of failure of this motor have been identified.

The rest of the Elantras are equipped with the same 1.6 liter Gamma series (not GDI) gasoline engine with 132 hp. This power unit is an analogue of the Solaris motor. Higher power is achieved by installing phase shifters not only at the inlet, but also at the outlet. Another available engine is a 1.8 L Nu series petrol with 150 hp. All power units do not cause problems.

Transmission

A six-speed manual or automatic transmission is installed in a pair to the motors. "Avtomat" often receives complaints from its owners after 20-30 thousand km. The reason is noticeable jolts when switching or braking. In some cases, flashing the ECU box helps. Elantra, assembled before mid-April 2011, could "snap" after moving the gear selector to the "D" or "R" position, due to backlash in the CV joint. To eliminate the defect, the manufacturer provides for the installation of special washers that eliminate the gap.

Undercarriage

The rear suspension of the Hyundai Elantra is the same as on the Solaris. In urban driving modes, in general, the behavior of the car is adequate and predictable, but on suburban Russian highways at speeds of more than 80-90 km / h, manners change radically. While the suspension is subjectively a bit stiffer than on the Solaris, the Elantra sways just as well in the waves and rearranges the rear axle out of its intended trajectory. But unlike Solaris, the manufacturer did not change the characteristics of the rear shock absorbers on the Elantra. Apparently, from the storm of positive emotions that overwhelmed Hyundai engineers after receiving the title "Car of the Year 2012", they decided not to change anything in the car. But if the roads there are good, and such suspension settings bring comfort, then on the domestic surface, high-speed movement can even be dangerous - constant monitoring of the trajectory is required. To eliminate the "problems" with the rear suspension, many drivers install stiffer springs and other shock absorbers, choosing analogs from other cars.

Avante owners note a shorter suspension travel than the Elantra, which causes frequent suspension breakdowns when driving through joints and seams.

Front wheel bearings often give up after 20-30 thousand km, especially after falling into the "pits".

A knock in the steering wheel may appear after 10-30 thousand km. Reasons: play at the junction of the long part of the steering shaft with the short one and wear of the right steering rack bushing. The cost of a new rail is about 15 thousand rubles, and about 4 thousand rubles for replacement work. But even after replacing the rail, the knock reappears soon. It is necessary to replace the bushing with an analogue made of a more wear-resistant material. The cost of such a repair is about 9 thousand rubles.

Due to the burning of the contacts on the brake light switch under the brake pedal ("frog"), the brake lights stop working, and there are problems with starting the engine from the button. The cost of the "frog" is about 300-600 rubles.

With a mileage of more than 30-50 thousand km, there are cases of wedging of the brakes of one, two or four wheels. The reason is the "destruction" of the brake hose between the brake master cylinder and the ABS distribution unit. Having fluffed up inside, the hose blocks the free movement of the brake fluid. The cost of an original hose from dealers is about 2 thousand rubles, an analog - about 500-600 rubles.

Some Hyundai Elantra owners, after 20 thousand km, begin to notice the rattling of the front brake calipers.

Other problems and malfunctions

The quality of the Hyundai Elantra paintwork is satisfactory. The owners note the relatively quick appearance of chips on the bonnet. There are also cases of damage to the paintwork on the trunk lid and rear fender at the point of contact with the rear lights. To eliminate the defect, it is necessary to adjust the bumpers of the cover and glue the contact point of the lantern with the wing to increase the gap.

Sometimes the plastic in the cabin starts to creak. Most often, extraneous sounds fill the interior in the cold season, before it warms up. Over time, a recess remains on the armrest of the driver's door at the point of contact with the driver's elbow. The "leather cover" of the steering wheel is wiped off after 20-30 thousand km. When dealing with a problem, dealers change the steering wheel under warranty (about 17 thousand rubles for a new steering wheel), but they advise you to tighten it. Indeed, even after the replacement, the new steering wheel will soon climb again. Some drivers also note problems with the leather upholstery of the seats: the cover is rubbed off and torn.

Problems with heating the Avante interior in winter are often associated with coolant: native antifreeze is "prepared" for milder conditions and thickens in cold weather. There are even cases of destruction of pipes in cold weather due to freezing of the coolant. When purchasing Avante from Korea, it is better to immediately take care of the replacement of working fluids.

There are no problems with an electrician. Some Avante owners experience audio dropouts when playing music from flash media or discs. Often this problem is related to the setting for playing music in the menu.

Conclusion

In general, the fifth generation Hyundai Elantra is doing well with reliability. But, as always, there were some minor flaws. The main disadvantage of the Hyundai Elantra is the rear suspension settings.

Overview Hyundai Elantra MD (J5)

The fifth generation Hyundai Elantra received the factory index MD and the internal index J5 in the Elantra Club.
The model was first shown in April 2010 at the Busan Auto Show (Busan, South Korea), and sales in the domestic Korean market under the Avante MD name began in the second half of 2010. Almost at the same time, sales started in North America, where the model is traditionally called the Elantra. But the fifth generation "reached" Russia only a year later - in the second half of 2011. That is why, in various publications, this generation may be called "Elantra 2011".
In August 2013, a model update was presented in Korea. The updated Elantra received a slightly redesigned design and some new options. The wheelbase has not changed, but the overall length has increased by 20 mm to 4550 mm by increasing the front bumper by 5 mm and the rear by 15 mm. External elements have been updated: front bumper, radiator grill, fog and headlights (+ LED daytime running lights added), rims, rear bumper, taillights (with LEDs). There were also minor changes in the cabin, based, among other things, on the owners' feedback: the central air ducts were shifted up, the position of the armrest was changed, some elements of the center console were changed, the seat ventilation function was added, the head unit received a new display. Added Flex Steer Electric Power Steering System and Advanced Auto Parking. A 1.6-liter diesel engine has been added to the engine range, as well as a proprietary start-stop system (ISG).
Note: not all of the listed options are available in Russia.

The main body of the car is a sedan. Given the popularity of the model, at the beginning of 2012, two more body options were presented in America:
- Coupe - three-door sedan version
- GT - hatchback (in Russia and Europe it is known as the second generation Hyundai i30).
At the time of compilation, only the sedan is officially supplied to Russia. The hatchback is sold in Russia as a standalone i30 model.

The engine (without attachments) and the gearbox have an extended warranty - 5 years or 120 thousand km (whichever comes first).
The current warranty conditions are available on the hyundai.ru website.

The car is produced by the Hyundai Motors Company, which means "modern" in Korean. The car manufacturer is the largest in South Korea and the fourth largest in the world, toppling Ford. In some markets, the model was called Lantra and Avante, but so it was called only because it was different from the Lotus Elan or Mitsubishi Elante already produced at that time. But since 2001, the car has been produced with the official name Elantra, since the models with the consonant names were no longer produced. Let's take a closer look at this model on the website!

And the "muzzle" is nothing! ...

Hyundai Elantra 5 has acquired its own signature, attractive and unique style, the striking feature of which is its eye-catching optics. The front and rear lights are slanted and extend significantly over the fenders of the vehicle.

The stylists of the largest Korean carmaker are confident that buyers will appreciate the bright and futuristic appearance of the fifth Elantra. Faces and surfaces have smooth shapes and, when viewed from the side, form a single elongated line.

Fuel consumption for Elantra V

Thanks to such a body, this made it possible to give the car excellent aerodynamics, which significantly reduces fuel consumption! By the way, Hyundai Elantra is one of the few cars with an automatic transmission, which on the highway at a speed of 70 km / h consumes 4 liters of fuel per 100 km, and at a speed of 100 km / h the guys from the "drive" managed to reach 5 liters per hundred !

Plus, the plant allows the use of AI 92 gasoline!

Salon and equipment

The interior of the new Elantra has become more spacious; modern and practical materials have been used in its decoration.

The styling is in harmony with the exterior of the car, the design elements of the steering wheel spokes and the two-level console resemble the edges of the body. It should be noted here that Koreans never repeat trim elements in subsequent models, which is often characteristic of European models.

The function keys for controlling the trip computer (which is now Russified) and the music installation have moved to a leather steering wheel,

and the seat heating buttons are located in the climate control unit. Now all manipulations can be done quickly and not be distracted from the road. Surprisingly, the side mirrors are large enough despite the streamlined shape of the car.

The seats have changed significantly, now they have become more rigid, they have acquired increased side reliefs, intended for good fixation of the driver on sharp turns. And in order to make the third passenger in the back seat feel more comfortable, the designers completely reduced the tunnel under their feet.

Second row seats and trunk

The distance between the front and rear seats has been increased, and there is now a space of about 12 cm from the knees of the rear passenger to the back of the front seat.

The trunk of the new Elantra is large, 485 liters, but it can become even larger, with the help of a drive directly from the trunk, the rear seat folds quite easily.

Hyundai Elantra 5 with automatic transmission and 1.8 engine runs up to 100 km / h in 10.2 seconds, sound insulation deserves an “excellent” rating, and soft shock absorbers adequately dampen vibration on uneven roads. The steering of the car is very sensitive, even "sharp" and reacts even to a turn of several degrees.

From year to year, the volume of Hyundai's global sales is growing steadily, and in 2012 Elantra took third place, behind only Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus. Since 2013, Hyundai Elantra 5 has been produced in four trim levels: Base, Optima, Comfort, Sport. Most of the changes will be on the Optima trim level. Now a 1.8-liter engine will be installed in it, the power will increase to 149.6 horsepower, the gearbox can be mechanical or automatic, six-speed.

Charged version

The most complete version is Sport, which will also be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine. Here is actually a "charged" version of the GT:

That's probably all we wanted to tell you, if you forgot something - write in the comments! 🙂

Not a nail, not a rod, and smooth Russian roads to everyone!

THE IDEA TO INVEST IN A USED ELANTRA MD SEEMS SUCCESSFUL. SEDAN IS REALLY NOT BAD, BUT HE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SAVE YOUR MONEY. MACHINE LOSES IN PRICE FASTER THAN AGES

History
, produced from 2006 to 2010, 8 Russia did not have time to become famous for its "exploits" on the market. By the beginning of its sales, the "soapy" era of design had already come to naught. The car was equipped with 1.4 (122 hp) and 4.0 (143 hp) petrol "fours", the diesel modification was traditionally not supplied to the Russian market. By the way, already at that time the name i30 appeared on the US market. ...
HYUNDAI ELANTRA fifth generation from 2010 to 2014

The fifth generation model, which appeared in 2010 (Avante on the home market), took two years to pass the millionth mark and become the owner of the Car of the Year title in 2012. In Asian markets, in the United States and in Europe, the car came in handy. The sedan went to Russia well. However, it turned out that our distances "Elantre" are not but teeth. The suspension, designed for high-quality roads, failed.

Hence, I am glad of operational problems. For example, due to the short stroke and stiffness of the front suspension, the front wheel bearings do not last long, which, after "acquaintance" with the pits, have to be changed at an insignificant run. The steering does not show itself well, it does not want to work silently even after overhaul. However, not everything is so bad. On the forums, there are enough very flattering reviews about the car ...

The front-wheel drive sedan arrived in Russia with atmospheric petrol "fours": a 1.6-liter 132-horsepower Gamma series engine made in China, known by "Solyarice ”, and a more powerful 150-horsepower engine of the Nu series. In addition to the main negative points associated with poor maintainability, the motors did not get negative. Ifdo not skimp on high-quality gasoline, even AI-92, then 250 thousand km without overhaul are nursed. Then, however, if cleaning the deposits in the fuel system no longer helps, they require cardinal nodal and by no means cheap replacements.

Transmissions 6-speed: manual gearbox and automatic gearbox. The first hassle does not add up if you occasionally change the oil in the box. It's worse with machine guns. Them. Of course, not often, but, they caught on ailments on runs of 30 thousand km - tremors when switching or when braking. First of all, the flashing of the ECU of the box helps from the ailment. But it gets harder over time. We change the oil at least once every 60 thousand km.

They say different things about the body. Someone notes only trifling chips on the hood and trunk lid, remaining satisfied with the quality. Others are categorically unhappy with the quality of the paintwork, galvanized body and thick iron. It is not uncommon for corrosion to settle in the contact points of the rear fenders with the lanterns. However, body problems are cut off when buying a car, as well as the consequences of interior wear.

Speaking of electrics, almost everyone admits that Hyundai has done a good job here. Failures are rare, and it is difficult to identify the most systemic ones. But the Elantra was unlucky with the suspension. In the city, you will not feel a catch. However, you need to understand that the sedan does not behave very well at a speed of more than 90 km / h on an ideal track. Moves of suspension brackets, breakdowns are not uncommon, with all the ensuing consequences for supporting parts and wheel bearings. Tires are required with a higher profile. In addition, the machine swings willingly, and the rear axle can be rearranged on potholes with a change in trajectory.

TRANSMISSION

The cost of repairing a broken machine, which is definitely inevitable after 200 thousand kilometers. predatory. But 50,000 rubles is still the amountserious. By the way, the cars assembled before mid-April 2011 quickly began to “click” when the gearbox selector was moved to position 0. But it turned out to be an elevator about the SHRUS.Eliminated the problem by installing special washers.

ENGINE

The motors are not very economical, but both the ignition coils and the valve timing system serve well, and the timing drive is equipped with a reliable chain. Poor start-up in severe cold conditions and limited maintainability can be considered disadvantages. Most of the replacements are nodal, which means they are not cheap. To extend the life of the engine, mechanics recommend changing the oil every 10 thousand km, trying not to deviate from the manufacturer's recommendations.

SUSPENSION

Front wheel bearings often change after 20-30 thousand km. Their enemy is the pits. Many have successfully “pumped” the suspension with stiffer springs and shock absorbers. From blows, play occurs at the junction of the long part of the steering shaft with its short part. The wear of the right steering rack bushing is not uncommon. The cost of solving the problem is about 20,000 rubles (with work).

BODY

Damage to body parts almost always requires replacement. Even the wheel arch liners are made of a fragile plate no more than 2 mm thick. Bumpers "walk" and "ask" for self-tapping screws. Not uncommon - damage to the paintwork on the trunk lid and rear fender at the point of contact with the lights. Here it is worth adjusting the bumpers of the cover and glue the contact point of the lantern with the wing to increase the gap.

BRAKES
