The up-and-coming Kia Proceed concept car, for the first time back in late summer, is finally unveiled live at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Squat silhouette, rearward-shifted interior, frameless doors, 20-inch wheels ... Handsome! Moreover, the concept was “drawn” literally half a kilometer from the exhibition center: the German design studio Kia, headed by Gregory Guillaume, is located in Frankfurt.
The body-colored dashboard visually extends the bonnet. All devices are virtual, instead of chairs - lodges for four combined with each other. And under the front panel there is a huge drawer, in which the perfume bottles are hidden. And instead of perfumes, Koreans suggest breathing in completely different scents - old leather upholstery, garage soaked in engine oil or high-octane gasoline.
All this is good, but how much will remain of this striking car from the next generation serial Sid? Alas, you should not delude yourself. Many other features will disappear along with the flavors.
Actually, only the general style and shape of the five-door body will remain: in the model range, such a liftback will take the place of the current three-door Kia pro_cee "d. The parent brand Hyundai has already implemented the same strategy, replacing the three-door i30 with a coupe-like one. In addition, the range of the new Sid will include two more body types: it is easy to guess that this is a traditional short-tail hatchback and station wagon.
Rear-wheel drive proportions will disappear: the new cee’d will retain the front-wheel drive platform, so you can forget about the short front overhang and the long "prestige distance" (between the front edge of the door and the wheel arch). Only the larger Stinger and Quoris models will be rear-wheel drive in the Kia range. There will be frames at the doors, central pillars at the body, and instead of 20-inch rollers, standard wheels for such machines will be installed. And the serial interior is unlikely to inherit anything from the concept.
But do not rush to get upset. Even with all the reservations, the future cee "d" and "Procced" promise to be bright and pretty cars. True, they will have to wait a few more months before their appearance: according to preliminary information, the premiere will take place next spring at the Geneva Motor Show.
As part of the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017, the presentation of the Kia Proceed Concept, which is the prototype of the 3rd generation Kia Ceed, took place. Representatives of the South Korean brand note that to create such a shade, they had to superimpose as many as 19 layers of various paints on top of each other. It took a whole week to paint the model. As a result, Kia specialists have obtained a luminous glossy red color, the intensity of which depends on the lighting.
The Kia Proceed Concept has a long hood with a rear-shifted cockpit, while also striking a line of Lumiline glazing, no C-pillars, a sloping roof, intricate stern design and 20-inch wheels. The four-seater interior is also almost entirely painted in Lava Red, while the black steering wheel and dashboard inserts provide a striking contrast. The doors have shiny glossy inserts, while the Koreans needed about 100 meters of elastane fabric to trim the seats.
Plus, there are carbon fiber inserts in the interior design. Other features of the Kia Proceed Concept include aluminum buttons, digital instrumentation, a large touchscreen display of the multimedia system, a premium audio system and a shelf that the Koreans call "Memory Bank".
The latter contains three flacons with fragrances causing passengers to associate various associations with cars. The fastback presented at the exhibition has three driver modes, each of which has its own color. So, in the sport mode "GT" the car has a red dashboard illumination Lava Red, in the eco-friendly "Eco" - green Forest Green, and in the autonomous "Autonomous" - white Ghost White.
Unfortunately, the automaker did not provide any information about the autopilot with which the concept is equipped, there is no information regarding the technical equipment.
Today, within the framework of the International Frankfurt Motor Show IAA-2017, a new concept car KIA Proceed Concept was presented. The concept car, created at the European Kia Design Center in Frankfurt, demonstrates the capabilities of the next generation of the popular cee’d compact family.
According to Gregory Guillaume, chief designer of KIA Motors Europe, the Proceed Concept's elongated hatchback is a prime example of the next generation of the cee’d family. The concept model, inheriting elements of sportiness from its predecessor pro ceed, looks powerful and dynamic, emphasizing the emotions and passion of the creators for fast cars.
Since its launch in 2008, it has been the pro_cee’d model that has always been a model of power and dynamics in the cee’d family. The successor, presented in 2012, is not inferior in terms of dynamic characteristics.
The new elongated model with a spacious interior will be an excellent alternative to the traditional three-door "hot" hatchbacks. The Proceed Concept has a distinct body style, combining a sporty look with striking looks and practicality.
Exterior: presentable appearance, compact size
With a squat, lightweight and streamlined silhouette, the conceptual Proceed looks impressive despite its rather compact proportions. On the exterior of the car, characteristic silhouette outlines attract attention:- the line of the glazing zone, which continues to the tailgate, gives the car dynamism;
- glass roof complemented by a decorative shark fin;
- longitudinal inserts at the bottom of the sidewalls of the body, completing the sporty image of the car.
Among other elements of the exterior are:
- vertical double openings of the rear air ducts;
- a radiator grille in the style of "Tiger nose";
- embossed bonnet and characteristic angular windshield;
- large 20 ”alloy wheels with a six-pointed star pattern;
- corrugated rear light strip.
Interior design in the style of Haute Couture
According to Gregory Guillaume, when creating the Proceed Concept, special attention was paid to the color scheme of both the body and the interior of the car to achieve absolute harmony. To achieve the desired result and create a truly unique interior environment, the designers took inspiration from the world of haute couture, where a special charm is created using innovative materials, which is unusual in the automotive industry. The designers wrapped the seats in multiple layers of black elastane, which was then cut and hand-trimmed to achieve a rippled, rough upholstery effect in stark contrast to the sleek and shiny dashboard.
Reflecting the indomitability of an erupting volcano, Lava Red visually unifies the exterior and interior of the vehicle. Shades range from light fiery red to dark charcoal gray and deep black. The instrument panel and steering wheel are in the same color as the body, organically complementing each other. The door panels are upholstered in a shiny, hand-painted material that changes from vibrant reds to deep blacks.
The dashboard and monitor of the multimedia system displays three driving modes, made in different colors:
- lava Red GT sport mode - in red;
- eco-mode Forest Green - in green;
- auto Ghost White - in white.
The ergonomic center console with a minimalist design conveniently houses the aluminum controls for the various systems. The underside of the console is framed by carbon fiber that runs the length of the cabin.
A unique feature of the car is the "Memory Bank" built into the front panel - a shelf where a trio of evocative scents is stored. Guillaume said that each bottle is engraved and filled with its own unique scent: power, passion and drive, which a true motorist will certainly recognize:
- warm, musky scent of old leather;
- oily smell of the garage;
- the sharp aromatic nuance of high-octane sports gasoline.

The Kia Proceed concept received from the creators a new body type, called by the designers an extended hot hatch (a broader idea of \u200b\u200ba hot hatchback). Thus, it immediately becomes clear that this is not a station wagon, as it seems at the first meeting, but a bright representative of charged hatchbacks. At the same time, the style of the model is clearly visible in the external image of the prototype.
This similarity is not surprising, since the Kia Stinger and the Kia Proceed Concept were drawn by the same designer - Gregory Guillaume. I would just like to add that the concept shown in Frankfurt turned out to be more stylish and attractive than Kia Stinger. There is a hope that the production car will retain the phenomenally stylish image of the concept, and believe me, there is something to keep.
Having examined the new Kia Proceed Concept from all sides, we admit that the car, even in spite of the concept prefix, is the most striking, stylish and original representative in the Kia lineup. A huge front bumper with expressive air intakes, a compact false radiator grille, neat LED headlights, a flat bonnet surface that smoothly merges into powerful front fenders, curvaceous wheel arches and doors, an amazingly stylish dome-shaped roof line with a floating rear pillar, touch-sensitive door handles, solid feed with LED garland and original bumper.
In the presence of stylish and original details that add exclusivity to the image of the concept: pointed fragments with the GT lettering above the rear wheel arches, called Sharkblade, huge 20-inch wheels (stylish forged aluminum wheels and low-profile rubber), a luminescent line (Luminline) with LED strip, built-in along the contours of the side windows and on the bottom of the doors. When the driver approaches, the car meets him with bright red illumination.
The interior of the Kia Proceed Concept is flashy, vibrant, mesmerizing and 100% original. The designers working on the interior of the concept have collected in the interior, it seems, all possible styles and materials, adding modern equipment to such a hodgepodge. In the presence of metal and aluminum, leather and plastic, glass and even artificial fur. For the driver, front passenger and two passengers of the second row, individual bucket seats.
There is also a steering wheel in a retro style, a digital dashboard, a large color screen of the multimedia system is installed on the center console turned towards the driver, the complete absence of physically controlled buttons and switches. Let's add to the asset background LED interior lighting, a panoramic roof, frameless doors, like a coupe. In a word, a flying salon, and nothing more.
It's a shame, but the Korean manufacturer did not disclose the technical characteristics of the 2018-2019 Kia Proceed Concept. So it is not clear what kind of power plant is hidden under the hood of the novelty: a conventional internal combustion engine, or perhaps a hybrid or an electric car.
