The first generation A5 has been produced since 2007, and only recently a new generation of the model was introduced. 9 years is a long time in our times, during which it was possible to eliminate all the "problems of youth" and create something almost perfect. Well, how it actually happened, read below.

Body

Audi cars are popularly considered to be highly resistant to corrosion, and in the recent past this was indeed the case. Even at the beginning of the 2000s, there was no doubt that until the age of 15-20 years the car would please with an ideal paintwork. But everything is changing, and the cars produced in 2007-2008 are no longer so pleasing.

Even with the average good condition of the bodies, frank corrosion damage is already encountered, and in the most prominent places: on the edge of the hood, arches and rear fenders. Even if they are point and unobtrusive, especially on dark cars, they are there, and you need to follow them - a small gray dot turns into a rusty spot in a few months.

This kind of problem is especially troubling with coupes with their large rear fenders. The need to tint chips also suggests that, without additional processing, internal corrosion of cavities and seams will eventually become a problem. So do not forget to carry out anticorrosive events - the car is worth it.


By the way, the steel sump of the engine also suffers from corrosion - the area around the drain hole on in-line motors quickly corrodes, and at the age of literally six to eight years, with the next oil change, a piece of the sump may end up in the hands of the service master when changing fluids.

With age, lacquer and paint simply peel off from the sills and rear arches: the front edges of the doors are very affected by sandblasting. Taking into account the large overhangs and low landing on the A5, the closest attention should be paid to the fastening of the bumpers and the condition of the bottom, subframes and crankcases of the engine and gearbox. The aluminum subframe at the front can simply burst with a slight impact, and the additional protection of the aluminum crankcase does not save, and even less does the standard plastic boot save.

The low-lying exhaust system also suffers, and it also goes to the catalysts, not only to the "can" under the bottom. The impacts are directed to the catalyst housing and contribute to its chipping. Not so scary for inline "fours", but for V 6 and especially V 8 this is already a sentence. The aluminum coating of the cylinders will not survive the dust in the exhaust, moreover, there is no turbine, which actively prevents the "backflow" of dusty air from the muffler. Fortunately, the catalytic converter is usually cut out before the warranty expires, and the "evil" firmware is stitched, so the exhaust problems are limited to the exhaust.

Damage to the plastic of bumpers often leads to the loss of parking sensors, if not noticed in time, the insulation of the wiring will suffer - it rubs against the edge of the bumper casing and is damaged. Literally a year or two - and the wire rotates from the inside near the point of its former damage. So do not be surprised by the sensors on the hot melt glue, as additional fixation will not hurt. The headlight washer nozzle caps are also a consumable, the fastening is extremely "successful", and in winter they fly off regularly.

The sore spot of the Audi A5 is frameless doors. Window regulator failures are simply infuriating, especially in winter. Glass falling on the door is a common scenario for a winter evening with the A5 Coupe, and the Sportback also fails more often than cars with "normal" doors. Squeak and jamming of a window is a small price to pay for a beautiful view. And the doors are sagging, the locks are knocking and require regular replacement of the brace linings for a "thoroughbred" sound.

The keyless entry system on cars fails before restyling, but this is more likely in terms of electrics, because the sensors break down. However, the locks are also at risk - they do not withstand constant loads.

The headlights on the A5 are also not sinless. The front ones fog up especially often, and LED DRLs are a traditional headache for owners. With taillights, problems are less common, but the quality is also poor. Dry, polish, watch - these are the basic rules for handling optics.

The interior, which is not bad as a whole, retains its appearance up to a run of one hundred to one and a half hundred thousand kilometers. Due to the poor tightness of the doors, the degree of its pollution and plastic wear is higher than that of the related A4. Always "peeling" button "Start" is present. The reliability of electronics is rated very differently. Fortunately, for most, it is quite reliable, and the crashes are only slightly annoying, but not expensive. Mainly stubborn fans of improvements suffer. The conclusion is simple: avoid cars whose owners could not come to terms with the stock equipment.

Audi has said enough. Multi-link controls in the front and back are considered expensive and troublesome, but in practice it's not so bad. With timely replacement of elements, both of them will cover no less than 70-100 thousand kilometers, compatibility with other VW-Audi cars is maintained, plus easy "collective farming" is possible with the replacement of a number of elements with cheaper or more serious ones, with the installation of refurbished parts.

On cars with V 6 and especially V 8 under the hood, the resource of the front suspension seriously suffers, with not very careful operation, the resource of the most loaded elements can drop to 30-40 thousand kilometers. Among the shortcomings of diesel engines, it is worth noting: the rapid failure of the upper timing chain tensioner, the need for frequent replacement of the particulate filter and the dual-mass flywheel (every 70-100 thousand km). Also, this type of engines has a very sensitive fuel system to the quality of diesel fuel, which in our reality rarely survives up to 100,000 km. Most Audi A5 engines are equipped with a turbine. This unit, if properly operated, rarely brings unpleasant surprises; on average, the turbine takes care of 200,000 km.

Transmission

Also, the steering is not perfect either - after 100,000 km of run, a backlash appears in the rail.

Outcome:

- a car that combines striking appearance, good dynamics, excellent handling and comfort. But, unfortunately, it does not have the reliability that fans of this brand have become accustomed to over the years. In order to eliminate the main disadvantages, you will have to invest almost a quarter of the cost of a used car, therefore, it is better not to save on diagnostics.

We replace the connectors in the car itself and it becomes compatible with new flashlights, we do not touch anything on the flashlights. There the connectors can be found already with wires (pig tail).

To lay it, it is necessary to remove the sound insulation of the trunk lid and draw it along the arcs of the trunk lid. When laying, keep in mind that when the trunk is closed, the wire will go deep, so take the length with a good margin. The correct length is about 2m on each side. IMPORTANT! Route the wires along the factory harness, otherwise, when you close the trunk, the wire will stretch and break!

There is no pin numbering on the interior lights in the car, so connect the brown wire of the car to pin 4 of the new lights. Adaptation in PDF file -. Everything fit and worked for me the first time. The only thing was that I had to cut off the pegs on the connectors of the external lights. because of it, the connectors were not inserted. When you collect, you will understand what it is about. It is imperative to cut the hairpin, because because of it, the connector is not fully inserted !!

Without adaptation, only turn signals will work correctly. There will be no dimensions, fog, reverse gear, reverse gear will burn constantly along with the feet and there will be a bunch of lamp errors on the tidy. Without adaptation, the correct operation of new lights is impossible, because on old lamps, the STOP LIGHT IS NOT SEPARATED FROM THE DIMENSION!

(Do not buy adaptive headlights! They require, firstly, additional control units, and secondly, complex adaptation according to VAG-COM, as a result of which the automatic adjustment of the headlight tilt angle does not work anyway!)

Xenon ignition modules (8K0941597E - 2 pcs) and lamps (type D3S) are rearranged from old headlights. All connectors on the headlights coincide with the old ones, rewiring and adapters are NOT NEEDED. When the headlights are turned on, the cilia will go out, so adaptation is needed:

09 - Cent. Elect -\u003e Security Access (password 20113) -\u003e Do it -\u003e Adaptaion - 10 -\u003e Channel 3 change the value from 9 to 26.

Air ducts: These are attached to the radiator and sit between the radiator and bumper. The radiators differ depending on the engine model.
Therefore, the air ducts must either be cut off the old ones, or beaten with ETKA according to the ICE model. They have numbers:

Differ in letter (asterisk).

On motors 3.2v6 and 4.2v8 (they have the same radiators), apparently, there are no ready-made air ducts suitable for a restyled bumper, because these motors have never been installed on restyled 2012+ cars.
