Transmission oil for opel astra n manual transmission. How to change the transmission oil in the automatic transmission of the car "opel astra h

Hello! In this article we will tell you how to change the oil in the Opel Astra manual transmission. This procedure is very simple, but if you are doing it for the first time, then it is better to first familiarize yourself with our manual. So let's go.

Oil change intervals in manual transmission Opel Astra J (H)

An F17 manual transmission is installed on the Opel Astra J or H, which is maintenance-free. In other words, the oil in this box does not change and is designed for the entire service life of the car. This is what the maintenance regulations say. And you can be convinced of this by simply looking at the box itself, on which there is not even a drain plug. However, as experience shows, the oil in any gearbox ages and loses its properties over time. This leads to premature wear of the manual transmission parts, which over time threatens either the replacement of the unit as a whole, or its overhaul. To avoid all this, it is better, contrary to the instructions of the manufacturer and authorized dealers, to replace the manual transmission fluid. We will describe how this is done below.

What is required for an independent oil change in a manual transmission Opel Astra H (J)?

First you need to decide on the place where the work will be done. A garage equipped with a pit would be a good option. Everything can be done on the flyover. Or, at worst, you can use a jack. The latter option is not the most convenient, but it can be if you are not afraid of difficulties. We performed all the work on the pit.

Secondly, we need tools for filling and draining oil from the box. For the filling, we used a simple funnel and a thin hose, one end of which was inserted into the filler hole, and the other was simply inserted into the funnel. The result is a simple funnel extension. Everything for convenience. To drain the mining, we need any convenient container. For example, a basin, a cut canister, an anti-freeze or water PET bottle. Look in the garage. I think there is always something.

Third, we will need tools. This is a 10 "ratchet head and a 19" open-end wrench. You will also need a flat screwdriver.

Fourthly, we will need new oil in the box and a gasket for the differential pan. As for the oil, you will need 1.6 liters of transmission fluid for the GM 80W manual transmission, article 1940182.

Do-it-yourself oil change in manual transmission Opel Astra

1. We drive the car into a pit, warm up the engine and turn it off. We get down under the car. If an engine protection is installed on the car, then dismantle it. Then we unscrew the 10 bolts securing the differential pan. Keep a waste container handy as the oil will drip.

2. When the oil stops flowing, remove the old gasket and install a new one in its place. We put all the bolts in place and stretch.

3. Open the hood and disconnect the battery. Additionally, you will need to dismantle the battery pad.

4. We will fill the oil into the box through the breather. But to do this, you need to unscrew it. We take a 19 "wrench and unscrew the breather. Insert the hose into the hole formed, and into it a funnel and fill in about 1.5-1.6 liters of transmission oil.

5. Check the oil level at the control hole. We turn the steering wheel all the way to the left and find the control plug. We turn it out. At this point, oil should flow. When the oil has finished flowing, we wrap the check plug in place.

6. Reinstall the breather and the battery pad. We connect the battery.

That's all. The oil change in the Opel Astra manual transmission is considered over. As a result, you will extend the life of the manual transmission, and also receive a pleasant bonus in the form of reducing the noise of the transmission. That's all, thanks for your attention. And we recommend that you read our other articles.

Changing the oil in the gearbox of the popular Opel Astra H car is a very popular procedure, which is quite feasible with self-service. In addition, the possibility of carrying out it on their own has long been appreciated by the owners of the supported Astra H models, who, in fact, do not need expensive repairs in the absence of a warranty. In this article, we will take a closer look at how to replace the transmission oil in a manual transmission Opel Astra H.

The manufacturer claims that the factory grease in the Opel Astra H box is designed for the entire life of the vehicle. Whether this is so depends on climatic and road factors. In Russia, for example, it is necessary to regularly monitor the level as well as the state of the fluid quality. Very often, the oil has to be changed after 30 thousand kilometers, or even earlier.

What kind of oil to fill

Opel has set the following oil parameters suitable for the Opel Astra H transmission:

  • API: GL4
  • SAE: 80W-90 and 75W-90

Checking the oil level

Before making sure to change the fluid, first check the level of the remaining grease. For this procedure, you will need 13 and 17 socket wrenches. In addition, you must have a syringe to fill the transmission fluid - if you still need a regular topping up, and not a complete replacement. So, the oil check procedure is as follows:

  1. The car is installed on a flyover or lift. As a last resort, a jack will do.
  2. Go under the car and find the gearbox housing located on the side of the gearbox. There is a control hole in the crankcase, which is tightly closed with a plug. If small oil leaks are visible near the hole, then the oil level is normal and nothing needs to be refilled. If no traces of oil are found, and the edges of the drain hole are completely dry, then you will need to top up with oil. In addition, there is only sense in a regular fill if the current oil level is clean enough, and also free from any dirt deposits and metal chips. Chips and dirt usually appear at high mileage, and then a complete oil change may be required, along with draining the old oil.
  3. After making sure that the factory oil is clean enough, unscrew the drain plug and add new fluid until the oil starts to pour out. The liquid is poured using a filling syringe.
  4. As soon as the oil began to flow out, at this moment we immediately wrap the drain plug back. This completes the oil filling process successfully.

Procedure for a complete oil change

This procedure is slightly different from the above process, and consists of the following steps:

  1. The first step is to prepare the materials: a container for draining used oil, a set of tools, including wrenches and sockets, as well as rags, a filling syringe, rubber gloves, a new gasket and 2 liters of gear oil.
  2. Warm up the engine and the oil in the box in advance to make the fluid more fluid. This will speed up the draining process.
  3. The machine is installed on a lift
  4. In the upper part of the gearbox housing, the gearbox filler plug is unscrewed
  5. In the lower part of the gearbox housing, the gearbox drain plug is unscrewed, the old fluid is drained into a prepared pan. If access to the plug is difficult, then you will have to remove the pallet and gasket. The gasket will then need to be replaced with a new element. You can use a sealant instead
  6. After draining the used oil, proceed to the next step - filling in fresh oil. We leave the pit, and with the help of a syringe we fill in new oil. The fluid should appear from the control hole, after which the oil change process in the Opel Astra H manual transmission can be considered successfully completed.
  7. Now it remains to tighten all the holes tightly, including the filler plug, then you can make a test drive and measure the fluid level. Oil may need to be topped up a little over 2-3 weeks.

Each consumable is subject to periodic replacement. The time interval between these procedures depends on the vehicle, the recommendations of the automaker and the operating conditions of the vehicle. Opel Astra H cars are equipped with mechanical and automatic transmissions. The automatic provides greater comfort as it eliminates the need to operate the clutch pedal when changing gears. This helps the driver concentrate better on the road without being distracted by the gearbox handle. In order for the machine to work efficiently, without causing problems with the machine, it should be done on time and correctly. An important role is played by what kind of oils to fill in the automatic transmission on the "Opel Astra H".

When changing the oil in the Opel Astra H gearbox, individual characteristics must be taken into account.

Periodicity

The automatic transmission on the Opel Astra H is quite capricious, like the main part of the automatic transmission, regardless of the car. It is especially important to pay increased attention to it when operating in difficult conditions. This includes:

  • constant traffic;
  • short trips;
  • change of climatic conditions;
  • sharp acceleration and deceleration;
  • aggressive driving style, etc.

Under such influences, the box overheats, inside which the oil foaming process begins. Because of this, its service life is noticeably reduced, an automatic machine is needed. The longer you operate a car on one transmission oil, the more it loses its enveloping and antifriction properties. If you tighten up with changing the oil in the box, then your Astra H will face serious and costly breakdowns.

How often you need to change the oil directly depends on a number of factors. Aggressive operating conditions especially negatively affect the condition of the liquid. According to the official regulations, the car "Astra H" in the box is carried out every 60 thousand kilometers. But the actual frequency differs from the recommended one. The interval indicated in the manual is focused on the almost ideal operating conditions of the Opel car. Therefore, the real time between changing the oil in the automatic transmission is 30-40 thousand kilometers. Some do it every 20-25 thousand km. Consider the individual nuances of your Astra H.

Oil selection

The procedure in the automatic transmission on the "Astra" can be performed partially or completely. Regardless of the method chosen, the first step is to purchase a suitable lubricant. As elsewhere, the manufacturer, represented by Opel, recommends pouring only original transmission oil into the gearbox. But the problem with this oil is that it is hard to find on the market, and the price is quite high. Therefore, most car owners are trying to find alternative options.

The most important thing is that the machine uses liquids that meet the tolerances:

  • Dextron 3;
  • GM 1940767 and up.

Regarding specific brands and names, the following transmission oils are suitable for automatic transmissions installed on the Opel Astra H:

  • Opel 1940771 (this is the original oil);
  • ATF 3309 from Mobil;
  • Top Tec ATF from Liqui Moly;
  • Multi ATF from

If you are going to partially change the oil in the automatic transmission of your Opel Astra H car, then buy about 5 liters. For a complete replacement, about 10 - 12 liters are used. The volume of the box is 4 liters. But for a complete replacement, a minimum of 9 liters is required. Taking less, you will not be able to fully replace the working fluid. You decide which oil to use. The main thing is that the oil corresponds to the automatic transmission of the Opel Astra N car according to the tolerances, and has a sufficiently high quality. If possible, spend money on the original lineup.

Level and condition

Every car owner is obliged to monitor the oil level in the engine and transmission. For this, car manufacturers have provided special probes. In the case of the Opel Astra H car, the automatic transmission oil dipstick is located in the engine compartment. Through its hole, the level is checked and fresh transmission fluid is filled. To assess the current level, simply remove the dipstick, wipe it, reinstall it and pull it out again. By traces of oil on the level meter, you can find out how much oil is currently in the automatic transmission.

From the same dipstick, you can drip oil onto a regular paper towel. If the oil is poorly absorbed, has an uncharacteristic color, odor and traces of impurities, this indicates the deterioration of the composition and the need to replace it. Remember to check the transmission oil level before every long ride. Since "Opel Astra H" cannot boast of the most reliable automatic transmission, its condition has to be monitored more carefully. If the automatic transmission showed that the "Astra H" is experiencing a shortage of transmission fluid, or the composition itself has worn out, then it is better not to postpone, but to carry out the replacement procedure in the near future.

Tools and materials

To independently perform work on changing the oil in an automatic transmission, you will need a certain set of materials and tools. The main components include:

  • fresh gear oil;
  • capacity for draining mining;
  • hex key 10;
  • drain plug gasket;
  • automatic transmission oil filter;
  • protective clothing;
  • pit, overpass or lift.

Owners of "Opel Astra H" in the checkpoint change transmission fluids in several ways. Let's consider each of them. This way you will know exactly which oil change is right for you and what to consider when choosing which method.

Replacement methods

In total, there are three main methods of changing the working fluid in the automatic transmission "Astra N". Car owners choose among:

  • partial replacement;
  • medium;
  • complete.

If you change the oil in the box by a partial method, it will not be possible to achieve a special effect on rather worn boxes. On automatic transmissions with low mileage, this will be enough. The middle method is considered the best option. This is not a complete replacement, but not a partial one either. An intermediate choice that most owners of Opel Astra N cars are guided by.

A complete replacement is somewhat more difficult, but it will help in the most difficult and neglected situations with wear of the automatic transmission and its working fluid. Therefore, when choosing a replacement method, be guided by a specific situation. We will try to tell you in detail about each of the proposed options.

Method one

When Astra has low mileage or is in good condition, the method of partial replacement of the transmission fluid in an automatic transmission is suitable. For such a procedure, you need to follow a few simple steps:

  • under the car is the automatic transmission oil sump drain plug;
  • the plug is removed with a 10 mm hex key;
  • an empty container is substituted under the cork, where, after unscrewing the cork, the mining is drained;
  • fresh grease is poured through the hole for the automatic transmission dipstick.

This method removes approximately 3 liters of old gear oil. You pour the same amount back through the filler neck. Theoretically, a partially renewed fluid will be enough for 25-40 thousand kilometers. But it is better to do it next time no later than passing 30 thousand kilometers. For relatively new cars, this option is fine. But with severe wear of the mixture in the automatic transmission, there will not be much sense in partial replacement.

Method two

Here, in addition to draining the oil using the drain plug, you will need to get rid of the liquid in the automatic transmission oil line. This technique makes the change more productive as more grease is drained off. Replacement will require about 5 liters of new ATF. But this still does not allow to drain all 100% of mining. But it extends the life of the car until the next MOT. Changing the working fluid by the second method looks like this:

When pouring new fluid, try not to overflow or pour too little mixture into the automatic transmission. In order not to be mistaken with the quantity, measure the volume of the drained mining and pour into the crankcase slightly less than this amount. Then add a little more as needed. Start the engine, check the oil level on the dipstick. For now, lean on the side marked with +20. When the engine warms up, the level will gradually rise. It is advisable to drive about 20 kilometers. So everything will warm up to the desired level. Then you need to drive back to the garage. Insert the dipstick into the crankcase, but now start from the level readings on the +80 side. If you see a lack of oil, add some more liquid.

If there is too much oil, be sure to drain the excess. Otherwise, problems will arise during the subsequent operation of the car.

Third method

Its car owners call it optimal in the case of severe wear of the transmission fluid in the automatic transmission of the Opel Astra N. The essence of the technique is based on performing similar procedures with the previous options for cleaning the automatic transmission crankcase. But in addition, the gearbox pan is dismantled and the oil filter located inside the machine is changed.

This method is relevant in cases where the car has an impressive mileage. If the car has traveled relatively little and the oil is in good condition, then the second method will suffice. Partial change of the working fluid does not give the desired result for a long period, therefore it is recommended in the case of new "Astra" with low mileage and under non-aggressive operating conditions.

If you see that after changing the composition in an automatic transmission, the oil does not remain reddish, but has acquired a light yellow tint, do not worry. This is normal. This reaction occurs due to the mixing of mining residues with fresh lubricant. The most important thing is that the transmission oil does not have a burning smell and remains transparent. This indicates its good condition and allows you to continue to operate the car without changing this consumable for some time. Try to periodically monitor the level and physical and chemical properties of the mixture, check it for signs of wear in order to carry out the replacement procedure in time.

The hardware method of changing the oil in the automatic transmission of "Astra" shows itself well. But this requires special equipment available only at service stations. It makes no sense to purchase such a device for private use because of the high cost and rare use. But not everyone is ready to pay car services for their services, since it is quite possible to do it yourself.

Changing the oil in the Opel Astra G, H and J box is not a difficult, but extremely important operation. Neglecting it can lead to high costs for repairing damaged units and parts.

Replacement frequency

Cars Opel Astra H and J are equipped with the same mechanical gearbox of the F23 model (there are options with 5 or 6 speeds) or the robotic F17 Easytronic. The oil change in the Opel Astra H and J box is not provided by the manufacturer.

In other words, the oil filled at the factory is designed for the entire life of the vehicle. But many owners and auto mechanics recommend changing the working fluid in the mechanical box quite often - every 30 thousand kilometers. It is advisable to check the oil level every 15 thousand km.

Astra cars can be equipped with an automatic transmission, in which it is also recommended to change the oil. The oil change interval in the automatic transmission set by the manufacturer is 60 thousand km. But due to the difficult climatic conditions of operation, it is better to reduce the interval to 30-40 thousand km. The final decision on the timing of the oil change is made by the owner of the machine.

Oil selection

From the factory, the Opel Astra H box is filled with synthetic gear oil with API GL4 and SAE 80W-90 standards. When changing, the oil type can be left unchanged. But if the car is regularly and for a long time operated at low temperatures (from minus 30 degrees and below), then the Opel plant recommends pouring a more frost-resistant liquid into the crankcase of the box according to API GL4 and SAE 75W-90 standards.

It must be remembered that a special fluid for automatic transmissions with Dextron VI approval must be poured into the automatic transmission. Any fluid manufacturer can be, although it is better to give preference to the original General Motors product (article 19 40 184).

Level measurement and top-up

Checking the oil level in the gearbox can be carried out during the next maintenance or simply when servicing the machine.

To carry out this work, you will need a rag, a wrench and socket heads with a size of 13, 17 and 19 mm. You can add oil to the box using a special injection syringe for filling transmission fluids. It should be remembered that topping up the lubricant is required with exactly the same characteristics and the same manufacturer as the one in the box. When these data are unknown, a complete oil change must be performed. The general procedure is outlined below.

  1. The car must be driven onto an overpass, a lift or an inspection pit in the garage.
  2. On the side of the gearbox there is a special inspection hole closed with a threaded plug with a wrench size of 13 mm. Sometimes there may be small drips of oil around the plug, this is not a malfunction. In addition, the presence or absence of drips does not signal a low or normal oil level.
  3. It is necessary to wipe the crankcase of the box around the plug with a rag, and then unscrew it. Through the hole, you can check the oil level and the degree of contamination with your finger. If the oil level is very low, then the control sample can be removed with a clean screwdriver or any other object. In no case should the oil contain metal chips and dirt. A magnet is installed on the plug, therefore, by the presence of chips on it, one can also judge the degree of contamination of the oil. If such impurities are present, the oil must be replaced. The level at the lower edge of the inspection hole is normal. At this level, the oil volume in the crankcase is about 2 liters.
  4. If the level is too low, add oil. To do this, it is necessary to unscrew the 17 mm wide vent plug located on the top of the gearshift mechanism. It is recommended to check the condition of the ventilation duct and, if necessary, flush it. During this operation it is important not to lose the protective rubber breather cap. Operation of the car without it is prohibited, since various dirt will get inside the box.
  5. You can get to the vent plug only after removing the battery together with the mounting platform, the plug itself has a wrench size of 19 mm.
  6. Topping up should be carried out until the oil begins to flow out through the control hole. After that, screw the screw plug back in quickly and tighten it tightly.

How to change the oil in the box with your own hands?

Changing the oil in the Opel Astra N box is complicated by the absence of a drain plug in the lower crankcase cover.

Preparing for replacement

To speed up work, it is necessary to warm up the engine and gearbox. To carry out the work, due to the need to dismantle the box pallet, you will need a little more tools:

  • wide flat container with a volume of at least 3 liters for collecting old oil;
  • a set of wrenches and socket heads;
  • rags and protective gloves;
  • filling syringe;
  • differential oil pan gasket;
  • auxiliary tools - thin hose, funnel;
  • fresh oil (volume not less than 2 liters).

How to change in manual transmission

The machine is installed on a hoist, inspection pit or overpass. The sequence of actions when changing the oil in the mechanical box Astra z16xer is as follows.

  1. Unscrew the vent plug.
  2. Remove engine protection, if fitted.
  3. Loosen the 10 differential housing retaining bolts. At the same time, it is necessary to keep a container for collecting oil nearby.
  4. After draining the main part of the oil, unscrew the bolts completely and remove the sump.
  5. Remove the old gasket and let the oil drain completely from the gearbox assemblies.
  6. Install new gasket, oil pan and tighten bolts.
  7. Remove the battery together with the platform and unscrew the crankcase ventilation plug.
  8. Insert a hose with a funnel into the hole and fill in 1.5 liters of fresh oil.
  9. Unscrew the check plug and add oil until it appears in the hole.
  10. Replace the inspection plug and install all removed parts.

Stages of work in automatic transmission

There is a drain hole on the oil pan of automatic boxes, closed with a screw plug of various designs. So, on Astra Turbo GTC cars with a 1.4-liter engine, the plug has a wrench size of 11 mm, and on the Opel Astra H version with a 1.8-liter Z18XER engine, the plug has a hole for an internal hexagon # 10. A disposable O-ring 07 05 487 is placed under all plugs.

The screw plug in the pallet of the Z18XER box is clearly visible, under which there is an O-ring The case of the Astra Turbo GTC gearbox has a different design of the screw plug

All work should be carried out on a machine raised on a lift with a warm box. A short list of works on self-changing the fluid in the automatic box is slightly different from the algorithm for changing the oil in a mechanical box and looks like this.

  1. It is necessary to unscrew the drain plug and substitute a previously prepared container with a volume of at least 6 liters. The oil drains in about 10-15 minutes.
  2. After draining the oil, reinstall the plug and tighten to 12 N / m.
  3. Unscrew the control hole screw located on the side of the box next to the left wheel drive.
  4. The battery and platform do not need to be removed to access the vent plug.
  5. Pour liquid into the rubber tube of the crankcase ventilation until a leak appears from the control hole, usually about 5 liters of liquid are included in the box.
  6. Reinstall all the removed parts and run the fluid through the box. To do this, it is necessary to start the engine and switch the box on the spot through all operating modes; in each mode, a delay of several seconds should be given.
  7. Warm up the box in neutral for 3-4 minutes.
  8. Finally, warm up the box while driving for about half an hour.
  9. Unscrew the check plug and drain off excess liquid. An important point - the plug must be unscrewed with the engine running. If the level is insufficient, top up.

It should be noted that with such a replacement, all the old oil is not drained. For a more complete change, you can repeat this procedure several times, with an interval of 500-1000 km. There is an oil filter in the crankcase of an automatic transmission, but its replacement is a very complicated and expensive procedure and is carried out only in case of repair of the box.

The cars of the German concern Adam Opel GmbH are very popular in our country. The Opel Astra H model is the third generation of the Opel Astra model range. The first cars of this brand left the assembly line in 2004. Since then and to this day, the car has won many fans among motorists in Russia, as well as other countries of the former CIS.

History and technical features of the model

In world markets, this car is also known under the following names: Chevrolet Astra, Chevrolet Vectra, Holden Astra, Saturn Astra, Vauxhall Astra. The car was produced from 2004 to 2009. The assembly took place in Germany, Poland, Brazil, Egypt, Russia, and also in Ukraine. Astra of this Russian-made model was produced at a plant in St. Petersburg. It still leaves the assembly line in Kaliningrad. Russians know her as Astra H Family. Modifications with bodies are available: station wagon, sedan, and also a hatchback.

Astra H Family assembled in Russia is equipped with gasoline engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters, 115 and 140 hp. from. respectively. Front wheel drive model. It is completed with both mechanical and automatic transmissions.

The device and features of a manual transmission

The Astra H has a manual transmission of the F23 modification with 5 or 6 steps, or a 5-speed robotic F17 Easytronic manual transmission. In addition to these transmissions, a 4 and 6-speed "automatic" AF17 is also installed.

The design of the F23 model is made of 2 shafts - a master and a slave. In addition to the fact that the manual transmission and the main gear, as well as the differential, are united by a common crankcase, the manual box has its own, additional crankcase and a separate cover.

In a mechanical box, forward speeds are five; there is one more reverse speed. In addition to the gears, there are also synchronizer couplings on the output shaft. When switching speeds, they move along the axis of the shaft, including one or another gear. At this moment, their task is to equalize the angular velocities of the drive and driven gears so that their clutch occurs quickly and silently.

The robotic F17 Easytronic is a combination of:

The mechanical box structure is the same as the F23. The self-adjusting clutch works in the same way as if the driver presses the clutch pedal, as it does with a manual transmission. The role of the pedal is played here by a small electric motor together with a worm gear. The force is transmitted to the clutch master cylinder. Gears are switched automatically, control is carried out by an electronic control unit.

As a result, the robotic gearbox combines all the advantages of a manual gearbox with the convenience of driving a classic automatic transmission. To ride with such a transmission is comfortable, you need to follow a few simple rules.

Measuring the oil level and refilling it

Maintenance of the transmission requires periodic check of the oil level in the transmission. This procedure must be carried out at least every 15 thousand km of run. It should be noted right away that the manufacturer does not intend to replace the working fluid in the manual transmission throughout the entire period of operation. But such a solution is possible only when the road and climatic conditions are close to ideal.

In fact, reality dictates other decisions. For example, if the car will drive in severe and prolonged frosts (below -30 ° C), the same Opel recommends replacing the lubricant, which has API GL4 SAE 80W-90 quality, with SAE 75W-90. This grease will not thicken at low temperatures.

During operation, when the time comes to check the oil level, you should have with you socket wrenches for 13 and 17, as well as a syringe if you have to add transmission fluid. To complete the work, a certain sequence of actions is required.

  1. It is required to loosen the tightening, and then unscrew the plug that covers the oil level control hole. This hole is located on the side of the gearbox housing.
  2. The oil should literally be near the hole, at the bottom edge of the hole. If it is not visible, you should "feel" with your finger or some kind of tool (for example, a screwdriver).
  3. If in this case the level of the working fluid cannot be monitored, you will have to top up. For this purpose, it is required to unscrew the breather plug and free the oil filling hole, which is located in the upper part of the gearbox housing.
  4. After that, the lubricant is topped up with a syringe - until it starts to flow out of the control hole. As soon as this happens, it is necessary to tighten the inspection and filler plugs.

It should be remembered that adding lubricant is required with exactly the same characteristics as indicated by the manufacturer. If the oil has already been changed before, it is highly advisable to add fluid with the same marking and from the same manufacturer that is already present in the gearbox.

Changing the lubricant

Do not use mineral oil for replacement. Fill in synthetic or semi-synthetic with the viscosity parameters indicated above. You can also look at the documentation for the car. Since there is no lubricant change according to specifications, there is no drain hole in the transmission. Therefore, you will have to drain through the pallet of the box by loosening the mounting bolts.

In order to do this work, you will need materials at hand:

  • The container where the waste liquid will be discharged;
  • set of wrenches;
  • rags and a large syringe;
  • a new gasket for the manual transmission pallet (its catalog number 03 70 034), if not, then use a sealant.

In addition, 4 liters of new grease should be prepared. The volume of the crankcase in the manual transmission is 2 liters. Further actions are performed in a certain sequence.

  1. A car with a heated transmission is installed on an overpass or above a viewing pit.
  2. Unscrew the oil filler plug in the upper part of the gearbox housing.
  3. The fixing bolts in the pallet are loosened, and a container for draining is immediately substituted.
  4. The old lubricant mixture is drained. During this procedure, the pallet and the old gasket are removed.
  5. After the old fluid has drained out, the pallet seat is cleaned, a new gasket is installed and the pallet is screwed on. If a new gasket is not available, use a sealant. However, the old gasket cannot be reinstalled.
  6. Most of the new working fluid is poured through the filler plug. To completely remove the used grease, it is required to unscrew the inspection hole at the bottom of the gearbox housing.
  7. Old grease will begin to pour out through it, so do not forget to substitute the container in time. There is no need to rush, as this procedure will take about 10 minutes.
  8. After that, oil is gradually added through the filler hole using a syringe until it appears from the control hole.
  9. The inspection and filler holes are screwed in.

After finishing work, a short test drive is required for the lubricant to warm up and spread over the manual transmission. After that, you can once again check the level of the working fluid, if necessary, top up.

The oil change in the automatic transmission Opel Astra N is carried out in the same sequence. The vending machine also does not have a drain hole, so you have to drain the oil through the sump In addition, you should have an 8-key square key with you.
