Sound signal does not work 2109

Cars VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099 can be equipped with sound signals of types C-304 or C-305 (collapsible) or types 20.3721-01 or 201.3721-01 (non-collapsible). This section of the site describes a sound signal of type 20.3721-01.

Figure: 9.20. The circuit for turning on the sound signal on cars VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099:
1 - sound signal; 2 - mounting block; 3 - switch of a sound signal in the steering column switch; K8 - relay for turning on the sound signal; A - to terminal "30" of the generator

On cars VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099, the sound signal is in engine compartment and is mounted on a bracket welded to the radiator frame panel. The circuit for turning on the sound signal is shown in Fig. 9.20. To replace and adjust the sound signal on the car VAZ 2108, VAZ 2109, VAZ 21099, do the following: 1. Disconnect the wire from the "-" terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the radiator grille (see section 10 "Body", subsection "Removal and installation of the radiator grill") and disconnect the two wires from the audio signal contacts.

3. Remove the nut that secures the horn bracket to the vehicle body.

4. Remove the sound signal.

5. If necessary, unscrew the fastening nut and remove the bracket from the horn housing.

6. Clean the oxidized horn contacts.

7. Clamp the horn on the bracket. Connect wires to battery and the audio signal contacts (“-” to the upper audio signal contact, and “+” to the lower contact).

8. Turn the adjusting screw in the appropriate direction to achieve a loud and clear sound of the audio signal. If this fails, the sound signal needs to be replaced.

The sound signal VAZ 2108 2109 21099 is directly related to the safety of driving a car, as with the help of it the driver contacts other participants road traffic... Therefore, the audio signal must always be working properly.

But it often happens that it doesn't work. Let's consider the possible reasons:
1) Fuse F8 is blown (may differ depending on the type) in the mounting block.
2) Defective relay K8 (depending on the type of mounting block may) in the mounting block.
3) The sound signal itself is faulty.
4) Bad contact in the horn circuit.
Let's go in order:
1) Fuse F8 protects the relay circuit K8 and the sound signal itself from short circuit. If fuse F8 is blown, then first you need to make sure that the electrical circuit of the sound signal VAZ 2108 2109 21099 is not shorted.

If the short circuit remains, the new fuse will also blow. It is necessary to find and eliminate the cause of the blown fuse.
2) If the K8 relay is faulty, then when you press the signal on the steering wheel, it will not close + 12V to the sound signal. A defective relay must be replaced.
3) The sound signal is located in front of the radiator.

To get to it, you need to bend or remove the decorative radiator grill. Checking the horn is simple. One of its contacts constantly sits on the ground, the second contact must be supplied with + 12V from the battery. To do this, take a piece of wire about a meter long. We put one end of the wire securely on the + 12V battery, the other is closed to the sound signal. If the signal does not work, then it is faulty. The sound signal VAZ 2108 2109 21099 has volume control, you can try to twist it. Or disassemble the signal itself, perhaps a visual inspection will help determine the cause of the malfunction.
4) Bad contact means that + 12V does not reach the beep.

A common reason is poor contact here

If you have a whole fuse, a working relay, the sound signal itself and the switch on the steering wheel are working properly, then most likely the problem is in the wiring. Either in the mounting block, or on the sound signal itself, the terminals were oxidized.
You can check whether the voltage comes to the sound signal or not using a multimeter. One person presses the signal on the steering wheel, and the second measures the voltage on the horn in front of the radiator.
