AvtoVAZ has declassified the Lada Vesta SW station wagon and its all-terrain version Vesta SW Cross. Sales of new products will begin in the second half of 2017, according to the press service of the company. The models will be assembled at the company's plant in Izhevsk. Prices will be announced closer to the start of sales, but, presumably, Lada Vesta SW Cross will be the most expensive model of AvtoVAZ in history.
The Vesta SW is 4,410 mm long and 1,764 mm wide. The wheelbase is 2,635 millimeters. The novelty differs from the sedan of the same name with an additional plastic body kit and increased ground clearance (178 millimeters).
As for the Lada Vesta SW Cross, it is 14 mm longer and 21 mm wider than the standard station wagon. The ground clearance was increased to 203 millimeters. The car inherited the main features in design from the Cross Concept concept car, presented at the International Exhibition of SUVs, Crossovers and All-Terrain Vehicles in 2015.
The technical characteristics of the station wagon are still kept secret. According to unofficial data, a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 106 horsepower will enter the engine range of the novelty. The unit will work in tandem with a five-speed "mechanics" or robotic box. Also, customers will be offered a station wagon with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 122 horsepower. The presence of this engine in the lineup is evidenced by the corresponding nameplate on the fifth door of the SUV.
The Vesta sedan entered the market at the end of 2015. In the third month after the start of sales, the car entered the top ten market leaders, and now it steadily occupies the fourth position in the top 10. Initially, customers were offered only one engine of VAZ production with a capacity of 1.6 liters and 106 horsepower paired with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a robotic gearbox.
Since October 2016, the Vesta sedan is also offered with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with 122 horsepower. In the basic version, the Lada Vesta sedan costs 545,900 rubles, and in the maximum configuration and with the most powerful engine - 735,900 rubles.

Conversations about what the legendary SUV must change dramatically for several years already. Although a concept was shown at the exhibition, according to automotive media, the final design of the new Niva has already been approved and, in general, it will be similar to the prototype presented. Only a few details and proportions will change.
The concept is based on a special 4.2-meter platform with impressive ground clearance, all-wheel drive, extremely short overhangs, and an excellent entry angle. Unfortunately, the manufacturer did not provide specific figures.

Equally interesting is the exterior of the SUV, decorated with LED headlights with X-styling solutions, 21 ”rims, extended underbody protectors, a large black radiator grille with elements in chrome, shaped like boomerangs, as well as elongated front doors. Interestingly, there is no central pillar between the doors, and the rear doors are opened in the opposite direction. Thus, according to the idea of \u200b\u200bAvtoVAZ, access to the salon should become more convenient.
The new Lada Niva will appear no earlier than 2021.
The seats are sporty and have additional lateral support. Also inside you can see a selector for driving modes, made in the form of a "washer", as well as a large selector "machine". A few months ago, AvtoVAZ announced that a new generation of 4x4 SUV should appear in 3-4 years. There is still no information about which platform will be used in the model, but earlier there was information about the base from the CMFB-LS chassis, developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance specifically for mid-size cars. The same solution is used on the second generation Renault Duster, which appeared in Russia in 2019. The use of this platform, of course, will inevitably affect both the price and the off-road characteristics of the next Niva.
The new generation will come with a VAZ 1.8-liter engine with 122 hp.
... goodbye unpretentious SUV
Together with the Duster platform, its all-wheel drive system will most likely be installed: rear-wheel drive connected by a clutch and the absence of a downshift. If there is a compromise solution with "downshift" in the form of a short first gear, then permanent all-wheel drive will have to be said goodbye.
There is an alternative version of Niva's development in technical terms: AvtoVAZ will independently develop an all-wheel drive transmission with a "razdatka" and permanent all-wheel drive - everything is as it is now. However, the volume and most importantly the cost of work is incommensurable with the use of a ready-made solution from Duster.
Thanks to the French "trolley", the new Niva received an adjustable steering wheel and a number of electronic systems. Their availability will already depend on marketers.

Price
There is no doubt that the new Lada 4x4 will become more expensive. The question is how much. The platform from Duster will automatically raise the price of a new Niva to 700-800 thousand rubles (now an SUV can be bought for 470 thousand), plus the presence of various options and electronic systems.
The price list will look even sadder if AvtoVAZ itself is engaged in the development of an all-wheel drive transmission - the price of 1 million will be quite real.
That is why there is a high probability of using a transmission from Duster: the new Niva will most likely be a crossover with off-road inclinations.

The development is in its early stages, the concept is still being discussed, so there is no need to wait for a production model before 2021.
By the way: The rights to the name of the Niva model now belong to the joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ. However, given that the second generation of the Chevrolet-Niva never saw the light of day, it is quite possible that the joint venture will cease to exist by 2021 and the name will return to AvtoVAZ. Then we will see not a new generation of Lada 4x4, but the Niva.

The upcoming update of the Lada 4x4 SUV (Niva), which has been produced practically unchanged since 1977, has been talked about for about four years. It is known that back in 2015, a version of a new interior was prepared for Niva, as well as a climate system, where the outdated "faucet" was replaced with rotating handles, but due to financial difficulties, the update was never implemented.
Last year, unofficial photos of the salon appeared from the presentation of the Niva 4x4 restyling, designed for release in the near future. Then it became known that the updated model should be presented in 2019. In independent media, this information is confirmed: by January 2020, the SUV will be updated and put into production.
