The line of "ten" VAZ originates from the sedan 2110 (1995). Three years later, the assembly of the model 2111 "station wagon" was established, and a year later the production of hatchbacks began.

At first, the 2110 was equipped with a sixteen-valve 1.5-liter engine. Those in those days were the maximum capabilities of the famous automobile plant.

But time goes on and progress, including automobile progress, does not stand still - another car appears, VAZ-2112, 16 valve. The previously known eight-valve version had less dynamism and power. And the car's appearance has become more sporty.

Complete set "Lux" and "Norma"

The plant presented the car in two versions. Complete set:

  1. "Lux". Trip computer, light alloy wheels, fog lights, headlight cleaning system.
  2. "Norm". Power windows for all door windows, central locking, height-adjustable steering column, immobilizer, remote trunk opening.

Body features

The appearance and body structure have undergone some changes. VAZ-2112 (16 valve engine) became shorter by almost ten centimeters. The reason for this is the design of the rear overhang. The wheelbase remains the same. Changes:

  • height -1 420 mm;
  • width - 1 680 mm.

The top of the body began to smoothly transition into a rather short overhang, which is crowned with a large wing.

This design makes the car better in handling, as this aerodynamics contributes to this - the characteristics are improved compared to previous models. The appearance of the car has also changed for the better.

This model is in great demand among tuning fans. The galvanized body of the "dozen" family is still subject to corrosion. Therefore, the "anti-corrosion" must be performed immediately after purchasing the car, not counting on the reliability of the factory coating.

Interior of the car

The interior of the twelfth model has collected all the best from the previous "brothers". Changes:

  1. The rear seat backs are divided. Each of the backs folds (moves forward as needed).
  2. The trunk has become much larger. Due to these changes, it became possible to transport long objects, which summer residents like so much.
  3. Car owners complain that it is dark in the cabin, the dashboard is not very visible.
  4. The assembly, it would seem, is of high quality, but still there are purely VAZ noises and creaks of the panels when driving.
  5. The window lifters are controlled by buttons in the immediate vicinity of the "handbrake", and this is not entirely convenient: it would be more appropriate to place them on the car door cards. In addition, such a drive is only on the front windows, and the rear windows are opened with "oars" - handles, and even then not in the basic configuration.
  6. There is an almost complete lack of sound insulation. However, almost all VAZs suffer from this. Even with loud music in the cabin, you can hear the operation of the engine, chassis and the rustling of the wheels.
  7. As for the front seats, their execution is successful, although the adjustments are very inconvenient. People of large build feel comfortable in this car - both the driver and the passenger on the right.
  8. The trunk is very convenient when loading - the shelf does not interfere.
  9. The driver has excellent visibility.
  10. The rear seats are comfortable for passengers, although the gap between the roof and the passengers' heads is small.

The pedals are quite closely spaced. The greatest inconvenience from this is experienced by the driver in winter, when the shoes are wider.

From the edge of the brake pedal to the console, a little over 100 millimeters, and many drivers have to press the accelerator pedal with their right foot in an unnatural position, otherwise it could catch on the brake pedal. The most interesting thing is that there are no such shortcomings in the top ten. It is very possible that the convex panel in the side of the tunnel is to blame.

Many drivers feel that the suspension has become too soft, that is, there is no "feedback". For decades, the car owner has become accustomed to feeling every unevenness on the road on the VAZ - this gives confidence in driving, since the driver "feels" the road and the car.

Car engine

The motor was created not from scratch, but on the basis of 21083, as a result, the manufacturers received a 16-valve engine, and the VAZ-2112 feels more confident with it.

The geometric characteristics of the base motor are preserved, but there are differences in power, efficiency, and throttle response. Advantages:

  1. Compensators are installed on the engine - now the driver is relieved from adjusting the valves every 10 thousand km.
  2. Environmental standards fit into the Euro-3 standard.
  3. The injector makes it possible to forget about the maintenance of the latter for a long time - there are much less worries than with a carburetor on a "classic", for example. This ensures smooth running of the machine in all modes.
  4. When the engine reaches more than 3 thousand revolutions, the engine is characterized by better throttle response and dynamics compared to its predecessor.
  5. Due to the modified combustion chamber, the anti-knock qualities of this engine have improved, and this is important given the fact that the gasoline at the gas station is not of good quality. Such a measure of design changes extends the life of the engine before the next overhaul.
  6. Stable operation of the cooling system in any weather allows you to keep the desired temperature.

It is noteworthy that very well-known car brands were involved in its creation. This, however, did not rid the design of some shortcomings:

  1. Low torque at low rpm.
  2. The belt drive does not differ in reliability and when it breaks off on a 1.5-liter engine, it bends the valves, which cannot be said about a 1.6-liter engine. As a result, this disadvantage costs the car owner a lot: it is necessary to repair the cylinder head.
  3. The engine has two camshafts: intake and exhaust. They open and close valves, intake and exhaust, respectively. There are not two such valves, as in the "ten", but four for each cylinder. This, of course, greatly improves the performance of the engine, providing a larger amount of the combustible mixture in the cylinders, and there is also an improved exhaust gas removal to the exhaust manifold. This is both an advantage of the engine and its disadvantage at the same time, since, with obvious advantages in operational characteristics, its repair is more expensive. If the 8-valve engine was always famous for being unpretentious in maintenance, then the same cannot be said about the 16-valve engine.

The timing belt (timing) is longer than on the base engine and therefore more expensive. If on the previous model, one pressure roller and one timing gear were involved, then this number of the mentioned parts increased exactly twice.

Main characteristics

The engine displacement is of particular interest to the consumer, and the volume of the VAZ-2112 engine (16 valves) may be different. There are three types of them:

  1. VAZ-21120 engine. The volume of the engine is 1.5 liters. The power is 93 horsepower. Motor resource - up to two hundred thousand km.
  2. VAZ-21124 engine. Displacement - 1.6. Power - 90 horsepower. The resource is the same.
  3. Engine 21128. Volume - 1.8. The power is slightly higher - 98 liters. from. Piston diameter 82.5 mm. Mileage before overhaul increased to 250 thousand km.

How to avoid typical breakdowns?

Deformation of the valves due to a broken timing belt is the main "disease" of a 1.5-liter engine, which requires a lot of money for its "treatment". But, as they say, there is a medicine for the treatment of any disease.

It is enough to change the "native" pistons to those used in model 21124 (samples for valves are made there), and the car owner will avoid undesirable consequences associated with disassembling and repairing the engine.

This, however, is fraught with some complications, since it is engine derating, which will lead to a drop in power.

If the owner of his car does not want to lose power, then he needs to do the following:

  • buy timing belts only from proven and time-tested brands;
  • closely monitor the condition of the said belt and, in the event of the slightest defect, immediately replace it with a new one, without waiting for an unplanned break;
  • the operation of the pressure rollers must also be controlled. The slightest squeak, rustle is a signal to replace the roller.

Another very common malfunction is "floating" engine speed. As a rule, the whole point is in the idle speed sensor, which must also be periodically replaced. Unfortunately, the quality of sensors has deteriorated dramatically in recent years.

If the engine stalls when changing gear, then flush the throttle valve with a special carburetor cleaner.

When the engine "troit", then you need to check the high voltage wires (their drivers are called armored wires), the module. It will also be useful to check the compression in the engine cylinders.

Of course, you shouldn't write off the fuel system either. You should try to refuel the "correct" gasoline both in terms of octane number and in terms of its quality. As for fuel filters, you cannot install those if they are of dubious quality and from unknown brands. Filters should be replaced every 10 thousand km, although a lot depends on the quality of gasoline. One unsuccessful refueling can be disastrous, as a result of which the fuel filter will become unusable and the injector nozzles may clog, which also leads to unforeseen costs.

One of the most popular domestic cars with a station wagon body is the VAZ 2111 - a five-seater family car that is perfect not only for city trips, but also for traveling in more extreme conditions.

The VAZ 2111 eight-valve injection engine is a logical continuation of the VAZ engine line. It replaced the models 21083 and 2110. This unit was installed on all Lada Samara (from 2108 to 2115) and tenth generation Lada (2110, 2111, 2112) cars. It is considered the first modified injection device on domestic cars. Let's describe the main technical parameters of the engine: connecting rod-piston group, cylinder block, and the principle of fuel supply. We will also consider the engine cooling and lubrication systems.

General structure of the motor 2111

The serial number of the VAZ 2111 engine is 100026080. The following technical characteristics of the unit are stated in the operation and repair manual.

The fuel supply system is injection with multipoint injection. The VAZ engine control system is electronic using sensors. The motor runs in four strokes (intake, compression, power stroke, exhaust). When inlet occurs in 1 and 4 cylinders, 2 and 3 are in place. When the piston in the first and fourth cylinders rises up and compresses the fuel mixture, air and fuel are admitted into the remaining two cylinders. Gasoline is injected into the cylinders using injectors.

The engine, together with the gearbox and the clutch, form a single power unit. The fastening of this single unit in the engine compartment is carried out by means of three rubber-metal supports. When viewed from the driver's seat, the crankshaft, camshaft and coolant pump drives are located to the right of the cylinder block. The connection is by means of a toothed belt (111 teeth). With the generator drive, which is also on the right, the internal combustion engine is connected by a poly-V-belt.

On the left side there is a starter, antifreeze temperature sensor, a thermostat. In the front, candles are screwed into the combustion chamber, on which high-voltage wires are put on. Also in the front part there is a knock sensor, a dipstick for checking the oil level, a crankcase ventilation hose and the main source of energy - a generator. From the rear are attached a receiver, a fuel rail with injectors, manifolds for intake and exhaust, an oil filter and an oil pressure maintenance sensor.

The declared engine resource 2111 is 150,000 km. The 16-valve injector has the same wear life.

Crank mechanism of engine 2111

The cylinder block is made of cast iron similar to model 21083. The factory cylinder diameter is 82 mm, when boring it can increase by 0.4 or 0.8 mm. Cylinders are classified into classes. Depending on the diameter, model A, 5, C, 2, E is distinguished. Wear is allowed - no more than 0.15 mm.

Five main bearings with covers are attached to the bottom of the block. The middle support has slots for supporting half rings. They are designed to prevent the crankshaft from deviating from its axis. Crankshaft play should not exceed 0.26 mm. If the indicator is exceeded, the half rings are replaced.

Bearing shells (main and connecting rod) - thin-walled from steel-aluminum alloy. The crankshaft material is ductile iron. There are 5 main and 4 connecting rod journals on the shaft. Eight counterweights are cast on the shaft.

On the front end of the crankshaft there is a camshaft drive pulley. The generator drive pulley is attached to it with a pin. There is an elastic element in the space between the parts of the pulley that softens the vibrations of the crankshaft. There are only 60 teeth on the pulley, 2 of which are omitted to determine the top dead center (TDC) of the piston.

The other end of the shaft is attached to the flywheel. The flywheel is also cast iron. It is installed in such a way that the conical hole located next to it stands exactly opposite the crank pin of the fourth cylinder. This is necessary to set the TDC when the VAZ 2111 engine is being assembled.

Each connecting rod is made of steel and has an I-section. The upper connecting rod head is equipped with a steel-bronze bushing. There are different classes of 2111 connecting rods, depending on the bore of that bushing and the weight of the connecting rod. Diameter pitch - 0.004 mm. One engine must have connecting rods of the same marking.

This engine uses aluminum alloy pistons. The upper part is grooved with grooves for rings. There is a hole in the groove of the oil scraper ring for dumping the removed layer of oil into the pin. The hole for the finger in the piston itself is offset by 1 mm from the axis, therefore, when replacing, we look at the arrow that is knocked out on the bottom. When looking for parts for repair, it is important to know that the piston crown of the VAZ 2111 injector of 8 valves is equipped with an oval notch. Not to be confused with a piston for a 16 valve engine. Its bottom is flat and has 4 valve recesses.

Pistons, depending on the diameter, are also divided into classes: A, B, C, D, E. When replacing, pay attention to the marking so that the piston matches the cylinder. The gap between new parts should not exceed 0.045 mm. A new piston can only be installed in a new cylinder or a bored one. The maximum difference in weight between the pistons is 5 g.

The compression of the VAZ 2111 engine should not fall below 10 atmospheres.

The VAZ 2110 (or Lada 110) is a four-door sedan with front-wheel drive and an original design. Serial production of the five-seat Lada 110 began in 1996 and continues to this day (currently the car is assembled under the brand name "Bogdan 2110" at the LuAZ plant in Ukraine). Since 1996, several modifications of the VAZ 2110 have been launched at once, among which you can find models with both 8-valve and 16-valve engines (on later versions). Such technical characteristics of the VAZ 2110 as the type and displacement of the engine (four-cylinder gasoline with a volume of up to 1596 cc), as well as the maximum speed of the Lada VAZ 2110 (170 km / h for an 8-valve engine and more than 180 km / h for a 16- valve engine) make this front wheel drive sedan ideal for urban use to this day.

Among the distinctive features of the VAZ 2110, which is classified in the upper price segment of LADA cars, one can also note the presence of an immobilizer, a gasoline vapor recovery system and a special board control system (diagnostic unit). There was a possibility of installing power windows (in fact, they were installed), as well as a power steering.

VAZ 2110 engine

VAZ 2110 injector 8 valves came to replace the carburetor engine, which was originally installed on the first VAZ-2110. At the same time, an 8-valve injection valve with a working volume of 1.5 liters first appeared, but then the engine displacement was increased to 1.6 liters. An injector with 8-valves with a volume of 1.5 liters received the index of the VAZ-2111 engine, a more powerful unit with a volume of 1.6 liters (8-cl.) Received the index VAZ-21114. Recently, modifications of the 21114 engine have been produced, they are installed on almost all today's Lada models, although under a different index.

Today we will talk about the device of the VAZ-2110 8 valve injector as well as the characteristics of this power unit. First, the main difference between the carbureted version of the engine and the injector is the supply of fuel to the combustion chamber. The entire injection process is electronically controlled, which opens and closes (via a return spring) the solenoid valves of the injectors, injecting fuel into the engine. But the electronics in the VAZ 2110 injector of 8 valves does not work by itself, but is guided by signals from pressure sensors in the fuel system, air sensors and throttle position. There is nothing of this in the carburetor “top ten”. In this regard, let's talk about the pros and cons of the VAZ 2110 8 valve injector. On the positive side, it can be noted that the operation of the injector is more stable, the engine produces more power, torque, while the fuel consumption is less than in the carburetor version. But if the carburetor VAZ 2110 can be repaired with almost bare hands, then the injection version requires diagnostic equipment, without which it can be extremely difficult to identify the problem. After all, if one of the sensors turns out to be faulty, then your injection engine may not start or work intermittently.

Major malfunctions

The main malfunction characteristic of the VAZ 2110 is the appearance of the engine triple effect. Malfunctions can occur for various reasons. Low-quality fuel

Sensors and ECU

Another major cause of the engine triple formation is the failure of one of the engine sensors, as well as malfunctions in the electronic control unit. Many are worried about whether the valve bends on the VAZ 2110 injection engine. No, it doesn't bend... The 8-valve injector does not suffer from this defect. But this does not mean that you should not watch the timing belt. Since loosening and then skipping the belt a certain number of teeth will lead to inevitable problems. When replacing the timing belt with a VAZ-2110, it is necessary to clearly align the marks on the camshaft pulley and crankshaft, without this the motor will not work normally. Another important point is that when the tension roller is moved to its original state, the marks shift as the belt tension changes. The Lada 21102 has a built-in five-speed manual transmission (manual transmission). This box is used on all versions of the 2110 line. It has good noise insulation, the lever travel is comfortable, the shifting smoothness is much better than that of the Zhiguli and Samara. The body (casing) of the box is made of aluminum alloy. A primary (driving) and secondary (driven) shaft are located inside the housing. The shafts are combined with the differential and final drive. The five forward gears are equipped with synchronizers that improve shifting smoothness.

Gear ratios: 1st gear - 3.636, 2nd - 1.95, 3rd - 1.357, 4th - 0.941, 5th - 0.784. For reverse gear - 3.5. The final drive gear ratio is 3.7. The operating instructions say that you need to change the transmission oil every 75 thousand km.

The impacts of the chassis on the body are mitigated, as well as stability and smoothness are ensured by the forces of the front and rear suspension of the Lada 2110. An independent structure is used on the front axle. Each wheel has an independent coil spring, inside which a MacPherson strut is placed. Each rack has its own hydraulic shock absorber. The lower arms are attached directly to the steering knuckles, and the anti-roll bar is attached to them. The levers help to reduce the roll of the wheel (turning it around the longitudinal axis). When the car makes a turn, the wheel being turned "inward of the body" can move away from the axis of rotation. The stabilizer prevents this by twisting. Thus, the front suspension of the Lada 2110 allows you to maintain the stability of the car when cornering. Rear suspension is a rigid structure, the main element of which is a transverse beam. Since the rear wheels do not rotate, there is no need for maneuverability and stability at the rear must be high. Therefore, such a design is applied. The beam consists of trailing arms attached to each wheel and a connector that welds the arms together. The wheels on the rear axle are also equipped with hydraulic shock absorbers for shock absorption. Radial tires 175/70 are installed on the Lada 2110. Ventilated disc brakes are used on the front wheels, and drum brakes on the rear.

Increase the power of the VAZ 2110 engine... Consider the potential of a 2111 8V motor without replacing the cylinder head with a 16 valve. The 103 16V engine and its modifications are mentioned in a separate article.

The easiest way to improve something is to replace the camshaft with OKB Dinamika 108 or Nuzhdin 10.93, install a split gear, adjust the phases. The output will be around 85 hp. at a minimum cost and a slightly more active motor. Let's let the motor breathe freely, put the receiver, the throttle valve 54 mm and the exhaust spider 4-2-1 we get already under 90-95 hp and the dynamics at the Priora level. To this we add the revision of the cylinder head and intake manifold, light valves, cylinder head milling, the power will jump to 100 or more hp. For a further increase in power, it is recommended to increase the volume of the 2111 engine to 1.6 liters, by increasing the stroke to 74.8 mm. When using valves with an increased diameter, lightweight valve discs, the program settings, the car will show 110 or more hp, but in this configuration it is necessary to select evil shafts with a wide phase and a large lift. Turbine on VAZ 2110

An alternative method of obtaining such power is to install a compressor with a pressure of 0.5 bar. With proper tuning and using the Nuzhdin 10.42 or wider Nuzhdin 10.63 shaft (or other manufacturers with similar characteristics), the motor will give about 120 hp + \\ -.

The 2111 engine was designed for a front-wheel drive car based on the VAZ 2108, but already a sedan, not a hatchback, so the engine became a hybrid of the internal combustion engines 2108 and 2110, widely uses their parts in its design. It was with modification 2111 that the manufacturer AvtoVAZ began to equip cars with injection engines controlled by an on-board computer.

Motor characteristics 2111

Since 1993, the VAZ-2110 project was opened by the manufacturer AvtoVAZ. A front-wheel drive sedan of increased comfort was developed, therefore the carburetor modifications of the 2108, 2110 engines and their variants did not meet the conditions.

Already at the initial stage, the project was divided into two independent works. A simple alteration of the "Eight" hatchback into a sedan was named VAZ-21099. The name of the second project remained the same, but the work on it dragged on for a number of reasons:

  • in 1985, a test sample appeared; it was planned to launch a car with a new engine in a series from 1992;
  • the crisis confused plans, the management of the manufacturer's plant put the VAZ-2110 on the conveyor only in 1996;
  • in the first cars there was a carburetor internal combustion engine, then the modified 2111 injection type.

The designers managed to use the existing engine elements to the maximum, so that the user of previous generations of VAZ did not get confused about which oil and coolant to use. By default, the technical characteristics of the ICE 2111 are as follows:

Design features

After many years of improvements, the 2111 motor has the following design nuances:

  • engine circuit - electronic control of multipoint injection;
  • engine block - has holes for fixing the attachment brackets;
  • cylinders - bored to size 82 mm;
  • crankshaft - with a long 71 mm piston stroke, similar to the model 2108, but the counterweights are more powerful to reduce vibrations;
  • piston - an oval groove on the bottom, so as not to bend the valves, floating fit of the finger;
  • connecting rod - length 121 mm, the lower head is heavier;
  • camshaft - the profile of the cams has been changed, the landing dimensions coincide with the option 2108;
  • Timing - copied from 21083, belt transmission;
  • flywheel - the teeth are wider, the profile is changed, the diameter of the clutch fit is larger (208 mm), the crown is wider than that of 2110 (27.5 mm);
  • starter - gear with 11 teeth;
  • belt - 742 mm in the basic version, 1115 mm with power steering, 1125 mm with air conditioning;
  • ECU - GM, Bosch or January;
  • injectors - Siemens VAZ 6393 (nozzle with 4 holes, yellow color) with controller January 7.2 or M 7.9.7 or Siemens 6238 (nozzles with 2 holes, gray color) with controllers January 5 or MP 7.0.

Thanks to the indicated design solutions, the characteristics of the engine are significantly improved.

ICE modifications

Immediately after the creation of the 2111 engine, the injection was modernized, options appeared:

  • 2111-75 - phased injection;
  • 2111 -80 - injection in pairs-parallel.

In the first case, the pin on the end of the camshaft allows the DPRV sensor to track the position of the valves (closed / open). A mounting hole for the crankshaft position sensor has been added to the oil pump. For the second option, a 2110 camshaft is used.

Pros and cons

The above description of the parameters exceeds the characteristics of the entire line of ICEs existing at that time, produced by AvtoVAZ. However, "inherited" from engines 21083 and 2110, the 2111 engine received disadvantages:

  • breakage of studs in the "muffler-exhaust manifold" mount;
  • breakdown of the submersible fuel pump;
  • leaking valve cover gasket;
  • low resource of elements of the cooling system;
  • periodic misalignment of valves.

The advantages are low oil and fuel consumption, possible do-it-yourself forcing, but only at the expense of improving the existing units.

Typical malfunctions

After many years of operating experience, it was noticed that the 2111 engine is subject to the following failures:

The engine exhaust system is flawed, so the exhaust manifold cracks and its fasteners break. A feature of the timing belt is the low resource of the valve cover gasket.

ICE tuning

By default, the engine uses the maximum diameter of the cylinders, so it will not work out even more, or it will be too expensive. Tuning of the following types is applied:

  • fTS filter - zero resistance can "revive" the motor;
  • throttle 54 - a larger diameter damper must be installed in tandem with the FTS;
  • straight-through exhaust system - a spider of the 4/2/1 scheme and a resonator with banks;
  • sports camshaft - timing changes.

Thus, the ICE 2111 is an order of magnitude superior to the carburetor modifications, does not bend the valve, is economical in operation, so it was produced for a long time and a lot to complete the entire line of front-wheel drive cars produced at that time.
