3. Production

3.1. Cars

Bogdan 2110 (Lada 2110)

The Bogdan Corporation is a modern Ukrainian enterprise for the full-scale production of passenger cars in the city of Cherkassy (State Enterprise "Auto Assembly Plant No. 2" PJSC "Automobile Company" Bogdan Motors ").

3.2. History

The history of the production of passenger cars by the Bogdan corporation begins in 2000, when the first cars were manufactured from the car sets of the Volzhsky Automobile Plant (AvtoVAZ, Russia). Since then, the company has been investing heavily in the development, expansion and modernization of production. On June 20, 2008, the first national automobile manufacturing enterprise during the existence of independent Ukraine was put into operation. The volume of investments in this project amounted to more than $ 330 million.

3.3. Production capacity

The capacity of the enterprise is 120,000 - 150,000 passenger cars per year. The enterprise has 2 car assembly workshops, 2 welding workshops, finishing workshops, testing and logistics workshops, as well as a unique complex for lacquering car bodies and painting plastics. The presence of the process of applying the first soil (electrodeposition) distinguishes it favorably from similar industries in the post-Soviet space.

3.4. The lineup

Under licenses, the Corporation produces at its facilities the Bogdan-2110 (Lada 2110), Bogdan-2111 (Lada 2111), Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra XD and Hyundai Tucson vehicles. Recently, the Corporation began production of the Bogdan 2310 - a pickup truck, as well as its own design Bogdan 2312 based on the Lada 2110. The design of the van was developed taking into account the possibility of installing gas equipment. Now the tests and certification of the vehicle are underway and the second version of the pick-up is being prepared - an on-board tent modification with a frame structure.

4. Trucks

The production of trucks is one of the promising areas of activity of the Bogdan corporation.

On September 9, 2008, the construction of an automobile plant for SKD production of trucks in the city of Cherkassy was completed (State Enterprise "Automobile Assembly Plant No. 3" OJSC "Automobile Company" Bogdan Motors ").

Investments amounted to almost UAH 100 million

4.1. Production capacity

The design capacity of the plant is 15,000 vehicles per year. The company has the latest equipment and workshops for truck assembly, superstructure production, welding, diagnostic and logistics

4.2. The lineup

The plant produces three models of trucks: two medium-tonnage ISUZU NQR71P / R (ISUZU NPR75L-KL / LL) and ISUZU NMR85L, as well as a small-tonnage ISUZU NLR85AL.

5. Buses and trolleybuses

Bogdan bus A-092

Bus Bogdan-A1445

The production of Bogdan buses began in the year. The design feature of the buses? Bogdan? is to use a single aggregate base Isuzu (Japan). It was with the start of the production of buses that Bogdan declared itself as a national automaker.

Along with the development of the production of buses and trolleybuses in Ukraine, the Corporation is actively working to organize production outside the country. The Corporation plans to manufacture its own buses and trolleybuses in Russia.

6. Enterprise OJSC "Cherkassky bus"

The company specializes in the production of Bogdan buses of a small class for the transportation of passengers and special buses for national economic purposes. The enterprise is located in the city of Cherkasy, has a closed production cycle and its own scientific and technical base.

6.1. Production capacity

The production capacity of the enterprise allows producing up to 3000 buses per year. Production includes full-scale fabrication of the body and assembly of the bus with the installation of purchased units and assemblies

The enterprise was a mechanical procurement, bodywork, assembly and fiberglass workshop during 1999-2006, a complex re-equipment of production took place: a new painting area, a fiberglass workshop, a new welding workshop were built, production facilities were reconstructed, gasification, new equipment was purchased.

The main task of the enterprise is the production of buses of small, medium, large and extra-large class and trolleybuses of various modifications.

7.1. Production capacity

SE "ASZ No. 1" JSC "AK" Bogdan Motors "can produce up to 8000 buses and trolleybuses per year. The enterprise is press-blank, body, painting, assembly production, a complex of diagnostics, refinement and delivery.

7.2. The lineup

The plant produces small, medium, large, extra-large buses and trolleybuses of various modifications, in particular, tourist, intercity, suburban, urban, specialized and school buses.

We have visited LuAZ more than once. The same administrative building, the same trees at the entrance, the same buildings with brickwork, but outside the entrance we were met by a completely different plant. Now there is not even a hint of passenger car production, SKD-assembly of cars and trucks has not been carried out in Lutsk for many years.

The plant completely changed its profile and changed beyond recognition. For the last 10 years, a classic bus production has been created in Lutsk, designed to produce 8-9-10 meter, 12 and 18 meter buses and trolleybuses. And today, Auto Assembly Plant No. 1 "Bogdan Motors" is, without exaggeration, the best bus plant in Ukraine. It could well have been one of the best in Europe, but just a couple of years of growth in the car market was not enough.

Hard times
The crisis of 2008 found the Lutsk Automobile Plant in the midst of reconstruction and construction of the second stage of the bus production, which was planned to be completed in 2009. In Lutsk, they managed to build 99% of the newest EISENMANN painting complex, designed for painting 12-meter bus bodies. Within the framework of this complex, even a cataphoresis line was built, consisting of successive 6 chambers and baths, where the entire 12-meter body of the bus is placed. To admit, a similar line at the bus factories of our source was seen only at the newest MAN-Neoplan plant in Turkey, launched in 2014.

It was to this plant that the German manufacturer moved all bus production from Europe. After such a line, bus bodies come out with such a degree of anti-corrosion protection that they are boldly given a guarantee of 10-12 years.

But in Lutsk, the 2nd stage was never launched, although they managed to complete all assembly and construction work. For its rhythmic work, it is necessary to load 300 buses per month, and the Bogdan Motors Automobile Assembly Plant No. 1 in 2015 produced only 144 units. With such volumes, the buses will be "golden". The line was mothballed until better times. But they all don't come.

But the plans also included the 3rd stage. With its commissioning, 6.5 thousand buses would be produced in Lutsk per year. But it never came to its construction.

Now the plant operates on the premises of the 1st stage and can produce a maximum of 2.2 thousand cars per year (with 3-shift work). The capacities are limited by the throughput of the 7-chamber painting complex. But in 3 shifts at the car plant have not worked for a long time.

Nikolay Dzhula, director of the Subsidiary Enterprise "Auto Assembly Plant No. 1", from memory calls each buyer of 144 buses and trolleybuses produced last year. He also remembers the specification of each model.

How the Bogdan buses are made
Of the 36 thousand m2 of production space, barely half is currently used. But in Lutsk, buses are still made from a blank sheet of metal. The production process begins in the procurement shop, where equipment for laser metal cutting was purchased. But workpieces from pipes and corners are processed on old machines.

The press production, where the body of the Volynianka was stamped, was completely shut down, and the last big press was removed from the plant a year ago. Only a few small pressing machines were left for the production of buses.

After the mechanical procurement shop, parts and blanks go to the body shop. Here, with the help of special equipment, the floor, sidewalls, and roof of the future bus are formed. By the way, the equipment at the "Auto Assembly Plant No. 1" is made entirely independently. Slipways allow maintaining geometry, in accordance with modifications.

In the paint shop, the bus body passes 7 chambers sequentially along the line, where, according to the technology, it is subjected to the following operations: degreasing, drying, priming, filler, preparation for painting, painting, drying at 60 degrees and final acceptance. It is the capacity of this workshop that determines the maximum capacity of the plant at 2,200 buses per year.

The painted body is then transported to the assembly shop, where, depending on the dimensions, it goes to the appropriate assembly line. "Auto Assembly Plant No. 1" can simultaneously produce 8 and 10-meter buses, buses and trolleybuses with a length of 12 m and especially large class cars up to 18 m long.

Assembly lines are designed for large volumes. Today, only a few pass through them. For example, on the line of 12-meter cars, we counted only 5 frames of future trolleybuses - this is a batch for Odessa.

A batch of Bogdan A221 buses for Kiev was on the line of small class buses and the production of A069 school buses was completed under old contracts.

According to the technology, after assembly, each bus must make a test drive and go to the final delivery area to the customer. Here it will be checked for leaks in a separate chamber, the headlights, toxicity, the condition of the paintwork will be adjusted and, if necessary, the defects will be corrected. Here the bus is finally given the go-ahead for the transportation of passengers and the final act is signed.

Plant prospects
Euro-5 standards, which came into force in Ukraine on January 1, 2016, changed the model policy of the enterprise. As the director of the enterprise Nikolay Dzhula told us, the first Euro-5 buses in Lutsk were produced back in 2014 for Vinnitsa. Thanks to cooperation with IVECO, "Auto Assembly Plant No. 1" already has two Euro-5 modifications in the model range: the 10-meter Bogdan A145.32 model and the city 12-meter A701.32 model. The plant is also working on the option of installing Cummins Euro-5 engines.

The supply of city buses rests on the possibilities of city budgets and depends on the results of tenders. In Lutsk, they are ready to produce buses for all of Ukraine, but somehow it turns out that not everywhere officials give preference to Bogdans. The factory workers perceive each lost tender very painfully. With so few orders, this means weeks of plant downtime.

The situation is even more complicated with 8-meter buses. The plant does not produce Euro-5 in this class yet. In the workshop, we saw only a prototype Bogdan A221.15 with a gas engine. But for some reason they do not make a special bet on the gas version in Lutsk, in contrast to their colleagues from the Cherkassky bus. According to the director of the plant Nikolay Dzhula, the delivery of the first Indian Ashok Leyland machine kits with Euro-5 engines is expected on June 15. After some time, the 8-meter Euro-5 bus will also be offered to carriers.

Bogdan Motors places special hopes on the European market. In cooperation with the Polish company Ursus, the plant managed to win a tender for the supply of 38 Bogdan-Ursus T70116 trolleybuses to the city of Lublin. This contract gave the plant an understanding of the quality level and requirements in Europe for urban transport. The acceptance was very tough, but the plant did it. And the trolleybuses were far from simple. The Lublin "Bogdans" are equipped with an autonomous track, which makes it possible to lay new routes even where there is no contact network. These trolleybuses have a "squatting" system at stops, which makes it more comfortable to enter the cabin, since the trolleybus leans a few centimeters to the starboard side and approaches the curb of the stop. And also these "Bogdans" have an energy-saving door opening system, which allows at the bus stop to open only those doors that passengers are going to use - this allows you to more effectively maintain the temperature in the cabin.

In addition to trolleybuses, the first 12-meter electric bus Bogdan A701.00 was also handed over to Lublin for trial operation. It has a cruising range of 120 km. The body for it was made using stainless steel - it is 2.5 times more expensive than ferrous metal. The electric bus has been traveling on the route in Poland for more than a year and has received a European certificate.

As the director of the plant Nikolai Dzhula recalls: “According to the terms of the contract, we had to produce the electric bus in 2 months, and the negotiations lasted almost six months. When we handed over the electric bus, I then told our partners that we bargained longer than we made the car. "

And the key to such speed was the staff. The car plant managed to retain the design team and attract the best specialists from Lviv. This potential has saved the company more than once. For 10 years of the bus era, 20 models and 35 modifications were produced in Lutsk. And the Bogdan bus brand is known not only in Ukraine, but also in Poland, Georgia, Belarus and Russia.

Ironically, those trolleybuses that were written off in Lublin after the delivery of Bogdanov there were bought by Lutsk. The old Elchs also drive past the car factory. Instead of our own "Bogdans" ... Probably, the rise of "Auto Assembly Plant No. 1" will come when local authorities in all cities understand that they need to buy vehicles of their own production.

P.S.

The history of this enterprise has known both ups and downs. During this time, he had to change his profile four times. At the Lutsk Automobile Plant (now Bogdan Motors), somewhere in a dark corner, they found a wonderful historical exposition. The plant workers not only saved it, but also restored it if possible. There is even the only surviving prototype of the ZAZ-969 (not LuAZ, but ZAZ).

And in the transport department of "Bogdan Motors" there was a convertible truck based on the bus chassis of the Turkish Otoyol. As long as the enterprise honors and remembers its history, it is alive. They try to use the name LuAZ here less and less, replacing it with simply "car plant" or "car plant Bogdan". And the production of passenger cars in Lutsk can no longer be restored, neither the Luaz-1301, nor even the primitive TPK-967 - the plant was completely reoriented to bus production, there is no passenger conveyor, and the last presses and stamps used for the passenger program were taken out of the plant a year ago ... Now - only buses.

From renovation to production.

In February 1964, the construction of the Cherkasy Automobile Repair Plant (CHARZ) was started from the very beginning, it was assumed that this plant would be engaged in overhaul of PAZ-652 buses, the design capacity of the plant base was 1.5 thousand units per year. In 1966, by decision of the State Commission, the plant was put into operation, and by 1972 the enterprise reached its full design capacity, which lasted until 1993. In 1993, its repair activities were discontinued, during the period of operation of which more than 25 thousand PAZ buses of models 672 and 652 were repaired.

Thanks to the reconstruction of the car repair plant, which was carried out in 1971-1972, the plant was able to start producing GO-14 products for the military-industrial complex. A new workshop was built, in which 1235 units of these products were already produced by 1993. Since 1992, the plant's management has decided to master the technology of re-equipment for the cargo-passenger version of the IZH-2715 vans.

In 1994, in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated 06/15/93, the privatization of the enterprise began. Where on the basis of the enterprise the Open Joint-Stock Company "Cherkassk Automobile Repair Plant" was created. An increase in the range of products began, which was facilitated by a large-scale reorganization of production. And in 1996, on the basis of the Gazelle car, the production of a minibus was mastered and a technique was developed for re-equipping an all-metal car for a cargo version for five to seven seats and for a minibus for twelve seats. For the repair and maintenance of main gas pipelines, on the basis of the KrAZ-260 G vehicle chassis, the production of emergency mobile workshops began. We also set up production of trailers for passenger cars, mastered the AMG-1 mobile repair shops, and began re-equipping IZH and UAZ vehicles.

Reorientation and a new stage of development.

A new stage in the development of the plant began in 1998. This year it is part of the Bogdan industrial and investment holding belonging to the Ukrprominvest concern. Now the plant is changing its profile and starts producing a small city bus called A-091 "Bogdan". This bus was developed on the basis of the ISUSU NQR 71P chassis. For this, the workshops were overhauled and new equipment was installed.

Starting from November 12, 2000, the enterprise began to deal exclusively with the assembly of "Bogdanov" and the enterprise was renamed to "Cherkassky bus". All projects that were developed at the plant in 1998-1999 found their implementation at other facilities.

Since December 2000, a painting complex was put into operation, with a total area of \u200b\u200b1080 sq.m. In the first quarter of 2003, a new workshop for the production of fiberglass products with a capacity of 150 tons of products per year was launched, gasification and reconstruction of production facilities were carried out, a new welding workshop was put into operation, high-tech new equipment was purchased and installed.

Already in February 2003, a new model of the small city bus A-092 "Bogdan" saw the light, in the same year preparations began for the production of a new large bus "Bogdan" A-231 and a small city bus "Bogdan" A-062.

In 2009, the Bogdan corporation mastered five types of new products, the new fifteen-meter city trolleybus Bogdan T-801.10 is also one of these five. The tests of the trolleybus were carried out in the Kurenev DEPO of the Kiev communal enterprise "Kievpastrans".

If we talk about the export of products, then since 2006 its volumes have been significantly increased. For comparison: in 2005, 26.5% of buses were exported, and in 2007 - 35.6%. The details of a new investment agreement on the construction of an industrial complex on a land plot in Borsky District are being discussed between the Bogdan Corporation and the government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region of the Russian Federation, this land plot belongs to the Bogdan Corporation.

Our days.

Corporation "Bogdan" began its existence in February 2005, twenty companies are part of it, which include OJSC "Cherkassky bus", JSC "Automobile company" Bogdan Mortors "," Hyundai Motors Ukraine ". Today the corporation continues to produce more and more new models of "Bogdan", for example, at the Lutsk Automobile Plant, on May 29, 2008, a new model of T-501 trolleybus was presented. In 2009, 624 trolleybuses and buses were produced.
