And what about the steering wheel? Ah, this is the Japanese Yaris. So, or almost so, traffic cops say about a small Japanese car, which is simply created for city streets. Toyota Vitz was not officially sold with us and, as a rule, appeared already with a run in Japan. Hence the right-hand drive orientation. The machine itself is interesting, but the most interesting version is with pepper. It is quite a rarity when a class B car is equipped in accordance with all the canons for the preparation of more powerful modifications of serial cars.

Small but sportsman

A liter and a half for such a baby is a rather serious volume, therefore, both outside and inside, the designers and designers tried to emphasize the difficult character of the car. In general, Toyota Vitz looks like a teddy bear, without sharp edges, without a hint of aggression and pressure. It's just an organism in itself, which gives the owner something that no one knows about. No, it cannot cut off the drive, burn the rubber or leave a point into the horizon. It is completely harmonious. And this is expressed in calm lines, in a thoughtful silhouette, and a confident look.

Toyota Witz RS is a car with a thousand little things that will pleasantly surprise you. No competitor in the class can offer side-bolstered seats. And well thought out and really working. Made according to all the rules of rally cars. But the seats are not decorated with red accents, so that you can see from a hundred meters that this is the RS version. They are simply functional lateral bolsters that provide the rider with a confident and snug fit. Thanks to the support, visibility is excellent. The body is completely fixed in the seat, and the driver looks at the road, as if from a long-range truck. A smooth but tenacious suspension, a gear shift knob that fits clearly in the hand, a dynamic engine and a distinct sharp steering make it possible to say that this is a small, but still an athlete.

Toyota Vitz has been on sale since January 1999 as a compact city car, of which there are plenty. But Toyota has clearly cut the sales market. Almost all Toyota Vitz and Yarises go to the USA and Europe. Of course, they do not move in the Dutch hills or the Arizona highways. This is a car for big cities, where there is free space - the cat cries, where parking the first time is a holiday and where there is nowhere to keep the car. According to these criteria, and rather rigidly, the car was developed and it fully met them. The RS version is just one of the modifications. All cars are produced with hatchback bodies with 3 or 5 doors. In addition to the most powerful, 1.5-liter engine, the more modest version is equipped with 1 and 1.3 liter engines.

Oddly enough, Toyota offers not only front-wheel drive, but also all-wheel drive for this baby, and the boxes can be either 5-speed mechanical or automatic machines with four positions. The Toyota Vitz range is not limited to conventional standard versions. In addition to the simple versions, the basic B, F, U can be offered, as well as the Clavia version for retro style lovers.

Toyota Witz, whose technical characteristics depend on the types of engines, suspensions and transmissions, in the RS version is a small sports package, a small version of the class of cars prepared for mass production according to the Euro Sport Edition standard. This version is sold only with front-wheel drive, only with a 1.5 liter engine and has some differences in the suspension.

On the move, the car behaves well in the city and on suburban highways, the maximum torque of 146 Nm is achieved already at 3000 rpm. Sometimes there is even a suspicion that the owners of voracious jeeps and large sedans, who are always circling in search of parking spaces, have created a reputation around everyday hatchbacks, which is offensive for the stronger sex with such cars. But let's leave this discussion outside the scope of this material and go directly to the hero of this review.

In its historical homeland, the Toyota Vitz subcompact two years after the launch of the basic variants in 2001 - a “hot” version with RS letters appeared. Outwardly, such a hatchback differed from the "civilian" models by other bumpers, door sills, factory alloy wheels, standard foglights, slightly tinted rear optics. There were also a number of interior improvements (for example, leather-wrapped steering wheel and front seats with better lateral support), custom suspension and more efficient brakes.

The Vitz RS was produced with two engines: a 1.3-liter 88-horsepower and a 1.5-liter 105-horsepower. In turn, the tuning studio TRD also offered its own vision of the second model - a version with mechanical supercharging, thanks to which the hatch gained the ability to accelerate from zero to a hundred in 7.9 seconds. Note that when the hatchback generations changed, in 2005, the “charged” version, popular among young drivers, was naturally decided to be left in production.

The main task
But enough historical excursions. This instance in a five-door body with a 1.3-liter engine arrived in the capital of Primorye from Japan four years ago absolutely standard and has been in the same hands ever since. Maxim, who made the vast majority of the improvements on his own, set himself the task of finalizing the Vitz RS so as not only to make the car look bright and "sounding" as it should, but also to preserve the opportunity for everyday driving - if there are passengers and personal belongings in the trunk ...

Visible from afar
Having retained the "native" rich blue color and received a tinted glass and an oracular noticeable from afar, this "hot" hatchback attracts attention with an abundance of non-standard body elements. The main ones, of course, are the carbon fiber hood from TJM, whose weight is only about 1.5 kilograms, and the front bumper (from the famous Japanese workshop D.speed), which has large side air intakes and aggressive horizontal "ribs" along the edges. By the way, the bumper is fixed through the D1 Generation sports quick-release locks.

No less important elements of the exterior in this tuning project were the rear bumper lip from the same TJM, the C-ONE radiator grille with a fine mesh and the cilia on the headlights, painted in body color. Plus, Kaixen lamps are located in the head optics, creating the effect of xenon, but, unlike the latter, they do not require installation by professionals. And more recently, the hatchback received a new set of rims - the choice of the author of the project fell on the forged Enkei RP01, whose white color goes well with the oracle on the sides and door sills.

A matter of technology
During the tuning process, the engine of the "hot" hatchback was not forced (of course, if you do not take into account the Jasma sports exhaust system), but the "heart" of the five-door is always kept in perfect condition. In particular, in addition to regular seasonal maintenance, repairs were carried out with the replacement of the "filling", including the timing chain. Among the "pleasant bonuses" the 88-horsepower engine received a radiator cap from TRD, an antifreeze temperature sensor from OMP and a set of silicone pipes for the cooling system manufactured by Samco Sport. Another innovation under the hood is the Tanabe Sustec strut. In turn, the manual transmission, designed for high loads, also did not require modifications, but the standard clutch gave way to a reinforced kit from Exedy.

Special attention should be paid to coilovers from KBEE, rare in our area, with suspension stiffness adjustment in 25 positions. Also, these screw struts have adjustable cups for adjusting the camber, plus it is possible to change the ground clearance depending on the situation.

Sound so sound!
But, undoubtedly, the main highlight of this first generation Vitz RS was the installation of an impressive multimedia system without sacrificing free space in the cabin.

In its rightful place on the center console is the Pioneer DEH-6310SD head unit with MP3 reading capability and inputs for the most popular external music sources now: USB and SD media, as well as Apple gadgets - iPod and iPhone. We can easily find the Pioneer tweeters, located on the A-pillars, and if we turn around, we find Alpine mid-range speakers on the rear roof pillars. In the trunk of the hatchback there is a 12-inch Pioneer ib-FLAT subwoofer from a special line with compact baskets, and the speaker is hidden in a box made especially for this project, which fits perfectly into the opening between the wheel arches and even received a glove box.

Other components of powerful "music" are hidden from outsiders. Among them - two Pioneer crossovers, a Stinger capacitor with a capacity of 2 farads and two amplifiers: the power of the first, which supplies a signal to the subwoofer, is 800 watts, and the second, which works with the rest of the speakers, is already 400 watts. Of course, it was not without complete noise and vibration isolation of the floor and interior doors, and among the rare chips of this multimedia system, it is worth highlighting a special device for adjusting the bass level in real time.

Speaking of the interior of this "musically hot" hatchback, let's not forget about the non-standard gear lever knob and two additional sensors on the dashboard. The first one indicates the temperature of the coolant, and the second one from Pivot is a backup sports tachometer with a shift lamp.

To date, the project to finalize this hatch can already be considered completed. Maxim invested a lot of time and money in his first car, and now is the time to just enjoy the ride for the soul in good weather, because this exclusive Vitz RS has long become a weekend car.
