New Toyota Crown sedan: production version. Toyota Crown Owner Reviews New Toyota Crown Model

8th generation

The Toyota Crown executive car is the pride of Toyota and one of the oldest Japanese models, the production of which was launched back in 1955. As the generations changed, the Toyota Crown became more and more comfortable, and with the advent of premium versions, its very name began to imply such a high level of equipment, performance and quality of materials that the possession of this model serves as a kind of confirmation of the high social status of the owner. Actually, the emblem in the form of a crown on the radiator grille is an obvious confirmation of the prestige of the model.

This generation (S130) is the eighth in a row. Its special feature is a very large number of modifications, because this car was offered not only in luxury versions, but also in fairly utilitarian configurations, intended for use as a "workhorse". In addition, this classic rear-wheel drive car was produced in different bodies: hardtop (1987-1991), sedan (1987-1995) and 5-door station wagon Crown Wagon (1987-1999). The latter is one of Toyota's largest station wagons: it is hard to imagine anything more suitable for practical use than a combination of a commercial and a passenger car in one person. This generation turned out to be so successful that even after the release of the hardtop passed to the next generation (S140), the sedan and station wagon in the 130th body, having undergone restyling, held out on the assembly line for several more years (the longest - the station wagon, which survived two generation changes) ...

The 1987 Toyota Crown used a very wide range of gasoline and diesel engines of various sizes and capacities. The simplest petrol versions were equipped with two-liter inline “sixes” 1G-E with 105 hp. Of course, in order to provide a heavy machine with optimal dynamics, this is clearly not enough, and more "charged" configurations were equipped with 1G-GE and 1G-GZE (Super Charger) motors with a capacity of 150 and 170 forces, respectively, as well as a 3-liter 7M-GE (190 hp) In the late 80s - early 90s, the line was supplemented with a two-liter 1G-FE with 135 hp. and new generation engines of the JZ series of 2.5 and 3 liters (180 and 230 hp). The apotheosis of power for the Crown was the eight-cylinder 260-horsepower V-shaped 1UZ-FE with a torque of 350 Nm. For inexpensive sedans and station wagons, diesel engines of the 2L series (2.4 liters), atmospheric and turbocharged with a capacity of 73 to 100 hp, were also offered. Some modifications were equipped with gas engines.

It should be noted the high survivability and reliability of Toyota gasoline engines of those generations, their ease of maintenance and unpretentiousness. And also the indestructibility of the Toyota Crown chassis. Ahead is an independent double wishbone suspension, a time-tested design. Behind either a continuous axle or an independent suspension - a gearbox with drives. Steering of some modifications - with variable steering effort. The most luxurious version of the Royal Saloon G was equipped with TEMS (Electronically Controlled Active Suspension), which turns the car into a "ship" floating on the road. At speed, the system automatically goes into LOW mode, and TEMS SPORT mode is used to suppress roll in corners.

The undoubted advantage of the old generations of Crown is the presence of a frame, which is a huge plus for used cars, given the decent age of cars in this series. So other comparisons of Toyota Crown sound quite reasonable: with a "tank", and even a fast one. Of the safety equipment in the 130th Crown, in addition to three-point belts, stiffeners in the doors, a folding steering column are used. Some versions can be equipped with a driver's airbag (since 1989), front belt pretensioners, ABS, TRC, ESC systems.

Despite the fact that, by modern standards, cars of this series are outdated morally and physically, the strength of their structure and the durability of components and assemblies still make it possible to find copies in good technical condition. The transition of this family to the category of retro cars is not far off. Actually, the eighth generation Toyota Crown is one of the most beautiful classic cars, belonging to the category "these are no longer produced".

9th generation

The Toyota Crown is a member of the family of full-size luxury sedans. In 1991, in parallel with the production of the previous generation in the body of the S130, the production of the ninth generation hardtop, built on the S140 platform, was launched, although in fact the main changes were reduced only to the interior and appearance, since the frame, chassis and steering remained unchanged. It can also be noted that the design of the ninth generation partly influenced the changes in the appearance of the previous one, which was reflected in the sedan and station wagon after the restyling carried out in the same year. In turn, in the appearance of this Crown, you can see the motives borrowed from the luxury sedan Lexus LS 400, which was launched two years earlier. In general, one can speak of the ninth generation Toyota Crown as a global modernization, which resulted in a very harmonious car that combines high technology, comfort, power and become at the same time.
For the Toyota Crown of the 1991 model year, several trim levels were provided. From the simplest: Super Select and Super Saloon - to the most luxurious Royal series: Royal Saloon and Royal Touring, which boast the richest equipment, including options such as: air suspension, factory-tinted windows, electric all seats, cruise control, dual air conditioning, CD-changer, etc. Touring versions are distinguished by more "rigid" suspension settings and the presence of a 5-speed automatic transmission. The rest of the modifications were equipped with a 4-speed automatic.

Toyota Crown of those years was equipped with four types of engines. If we talk about specific models, then these are the mass series motors used in many Toyota models. Two-liter 135-horsepower 1G-FE as base for petrol versions. One step higher - the 1JZ-GE with a volume of 2.5 liters and a capacity of 180 forces - this is not only one of the most popular engines in the lineup, but also a fairly reliable, unpretentious engine. Like its counterpart in the 2JZ-GE series with a volume of 3.0 liters and a capacity of 230 hp. Diesel modifications were equipped with a 2.4-liter turbodiesel of two modifications: 2L-TE (97 hp) and 2L-THE (100 hp), require increased attention during operation, otherwise typical "diseases" are possible engines of this series: overheating, problems with the injection pump and the turbine.

The Crown suspension is fully independent and provides a very smooth ride. A significant part of the cars came with air suspension. However, high smoothness also has a downside: with tired airbags or springs with shock absorbers, a well-run Crown can tend to sway on gentle road waves and (given the size of the body) becomes sensitive to strong gusts of side wind. It is not uncommon to find cars in which the body sags under light loads, so when buying a used car, you should pay special attention to this. Other drawbacks of the Toyota Crown in this body include insufficient steering sharpness, but, however, this is inherent in all cars that use worm gear steering.

In terms of safety, the Toyota Crown in the 140th body differs little from its predecessor. The options include a driver's airbag, ABS, ESC, TRC. The brakes on all wheels are disc and quite effective. Toyota Crown S140 is a classic rear-wheel drive car and the latest in its family, which was based on a frame platform. With all the drawbacks of this design, due to modern requirements for passive safety, it also has its advantages - good isolation from vibrations and noise emanating from units and tires and high reliability of the body as a whole, which is especially important for a used car.

Toyota Crown is a reliable, sturdy and unpretentious car with a very high level of comfort. Cars of this brand are highly valued not only for their luxurious interior, but also for the high durability of components and assemblies, so their cost in the secondary market does not fall as much as that of other brands. For a poor follower of rear-wheel drive and "real Japanese cars", the ninth generation Toyota Crown is the best option, especially if you can find a copy in good technical condition that will last for years.

10th generation

The creators of the anniversary, tenth generation Toyota Crown ventured into a largely revolutionary step - the abandonment of the frame structure. As a result, the weight of the car has decreased by more than one hundred kilograms. The status of the model has remained unchanged, the popularity of which has been very high for several generations and is supported by the corresponding level of quality and reliability. At home, a car is used in a fairly wide area of \u200b\u200bactivity: from ordinary utilitarian taxis to "bossy" cars with a luxurious interior and a lot of "gadgets" designed to provide complete comfort for those who are used to looking at the world exclusively from the car window, convenient lounging on the back couch.
The premiere of the Toyota Crown in a new body took place at the 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. Compared to the previous generation, the number of modifications has significantly expanded. This is partly due to the fact that in the same year the production of the eighth generation sedan, which lasted longer on the conveyor belt, was discontinued, and the tenth generation was already represented by two types of bodies: hardtop and sedan. In addition, in order to expand the boundaries of sales, left-hand drive analogs for other markets were offered. In both bodies, all-wheel drive versions were offered (only with automatic transmission), which were not available in previous generations, and sedans were also on "mechanics" (the simplest Super Deluxe equipment). The most expensive versions are still the chic hardtops of the Royal Series trim levels. In addition to the luxurious Royal Saloon modification, the Royal Touring modification with a sports suspension can be distinguished. After the completion of the hardtop of this series in 1999, the sedan was produced even before 2001.

As for the engines, their number has not changed in comparison with the previous generation. From gasoline engines, these are still popular for those years in-line "six", distinguished by high reliability: 1G-FE with a capacity of 135 hp; 2.5-liter unit 1JZ-GE (180 hp) and three-liter D-4 2JZ-GE (220 hp). However, shortly after the launch of the tenth generation, the 1JZ (1996) and 1G (1998) engines underwent upgrades with a VVT system, an intake manifold geometry system, a tamper-free ignition and an electronic throttle valve. Their power increased to 160 and 200 hp, respectively, but at the same time the requirements for operation also increased, especially for the 1G engine, on which now, in particular, the valves bend when the timing belt breaks. Turbodiesel 2L-TE and gasified modification 1G-GPE were intended mainly for commercial purposes: taxis, rental, service delivery cars, etc.

As mentioned above, the Toyota Crown S150 now has a monocoque body, and the steering system is represented by a rack and pinion drive, which radically - for the better - has an effect on handling. The car was offered with different types of transmission: 5-speed manual, 4- and 5-speed automatic. The latter is available in expensive trim levels. Front and rear suspension Toyota Crown - independent. On all-wheel drive versions, a FullTime type system was used: permanent all-wheel drive with an asymmetric center differential and a hydromechanical locking clutch. Under normal conditions, the redistribution of torque between the front and rear axles occurs according to the formula 30/70, while slipping - 50/50.

The level of active and passive safety Toyota Crown is at the level of the second half of the 90s. In the basic configuration, the car was equipped with airbags for the driver and front passenger, child seat mountings, stiffeners in the doors, and anti-lock brakes. And in the top trim levels, the car could be equipped with a more advanced set of active safety systems: ESC, Traction Control (TCS).

With its soft suspension and excellent ride quality, the Toyota Crown boasts the ability to swallow a significant portion of our road builders' faults. Even without the frame, the Crown retains its high strength, and the body is reliably protected from corrosion. It is quite a friendly car, quite easy to drive, characterized by endurance and a very high level of comfort.

11th generation

Toyota Crown is one of the most luxurious cars for the Japanese domestic market. The first copies of the eleventh generation (body 170) rolled off the assembly line in September 1999. Compared to its predecessor, the new Crown has added a few centimeters in width and length, has become slightly higher, thereby increasing the interior space of the cabin. The changes also affected the layout of the engine compartment, the front overhang became shorter, although the wheelbase has not changed. The fuel tank has moved to the center, which freed up additional space for the trunk. In terms of design, the model retains many of the features of the previous generation, but has smoother body lines. The release of a hardtop that did not meet modern security requirements had to be abandoned.
On the other hand, the Crown is now represented by different modifications: Royal and Athlete, each with its own set of trim levels. The 130th body already had a package with this name, but now it has been put forward for a separate equipment level. If the Crown Royal is a "classic of the genre", then Athlete is the same Crown, but with a sporty character. Accordingly, there are different suspension settings, a different (5-speed) automatic transmission, less ground clearance. External differences are also striking - in optics, bumpers, radiator grill, design of alloy wheels. Both versions offer a very wide range of equipment, both in the basic configuration and as additional options. The Athlete modification formed the basis for the creation of the Crown Estate station wagon (the previous Crown Wagon in the 130th body was hopelessly outdated in 11 years of its existence). Four round headlights, a mesh radiator grill, a tuning suspension went to the new model from a sports modification, however, like other accessories: a leather steering wheel, special seats, xenon headlights.

Toyota Crown in the 170th body was equipped with several types of engines. A two-liter 1G-FE with a capacity of 160 hp was used as the base power unit for the Royal trim levels and the Estate Athlete E-type station wagon. The higher grade trim levels were equipped with 2.5- and 3.0-liter JZ series engines. They were also installed on the Crown Athlete, and the base was a 2.5-liter with 196 hp, and the Athlete V versions were equipped with a turbocharged 1JZ-GTE with 280 hp. For the Crown Royal, a mild hybrid option was also offered - a three-liter 2JZ-FSE, combined with an electric motor. The power of such a power plant is 200 hp.

The Toyota Crown suspension provides exceptional comfort, but lacks some stiffness, which makes the Crown slick and lacking in control on our roads, where the driver is more demanding to drive, the smoothness and majesty of the ride. That is why the more "assembled" version of Athlete is in much greater demand. Some Crown configurations came in all-wheel drive versions: 4 WD FullTime with an asymmetric center differential and a hydromechanical lock clutch. Expensive configurations were equipped with airbags instead of springs.

NASVA has crash tested this generation of Toyota Crown twice - in 1999 and 2001. The vehicle has demonstrated body integrity in full overlap and lateral displacement frontal impacts. In the latter case, the only remarks were made for the deformation of the driver's and passenger's feet, while in general the position of the dummies after the collision was completely preserved. An excellent result was demonstrated in a side impact, while even the ability to open both doors was preserved. Note that the Toyota Crown equipment includes front airbags, side airbags (optional), from active systems: TCS (traction control), BAS (auxiliary braking), VSC (motion stabilization).

Ease of driving, lack of feeling of fatigue on the road, comfortable driving position - these are undoubtedly the characteristic features of the Toyota Crown. This generation, in fact, embodies a fusion of the best engineering ideas of the 90s of the last century and occupies an intermediate niche between the more modern models introduced after the demonstration of the Zero Crown concept car and the outdated samples of previous generations.

12th generation

The long history of the Toyota Crown, one of the oldest Japanese top-class models, has undergone several revolutionary changes. One of the most significant at one time was the abandonment of the frame in favor of a monocoque body. By the time the eleventh generation appeared, a whole series of questions had accumulated, not technical, but of a conceptual nature. Toyota has often been accused of the very conservatism that often tends to turn into "bland and dull". Therefore, developing the 12th generation model, the designers decided to move away from the classic canons and create the Crown from scratch. Actually, the concept car that formed the basis of the model was called - Zero Crown, which can be translated as "Crown from scratch".
A new strategy was put forward: "Not only driving characteristics, but also style." Moreover, both the first and the second should not compete, but act in close unity. A completely new chassis was created, which could take on a larger body. In terms of interior space, the new Crown surpasses the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5-series. The base and length of both axles have increased, while the load on them is distributed so as to achieve maximum controllability. The exterior details clearly show the desire of the designers not only to make the car stylish, but also to improve the aerodynamics of its body. Thanks to the active use of parts made of aluminum alloys, it was possible to make the car lighter. And this, in turn, played a positive role in improving the speed characteristics of the new car.

No less revolutionary solution affected the engines - in-line "six", with which Toyota premium cars were traditionally associated, have disappeared into oblivion. They were replaced by engines of the new GR series, first introduced in 2003 in the domestic Japanese market. These are six-cylinder V-shaped engines of 2.5, 3.0 and 3.5 liters with a capacity of 215, 256 and 315 horsepower, respectively. As with the previous generation, the 2003 Crown was offered in two versions: the chic Royal and the sporty Athlete with a stiffer suspension. And, as before, the most powerful engine was installed only on the Crown Athlete, complete with a 6-speed gearbox. However, it could also be chosen for lower grade trim levels. The standard was a 5-speed automatic transmission. A rich list of equipment relied on both modifications and was intended to satisfy the needs of the most demanding buyers. Plus to this you can add the release of special series. In 2005, small changes were made to the front and rear of the car. In the same year, car production began in China.

Toyota Crown suspension independent. Front - double wishbones, rear - multi-link design. In general, it is more rigid than that of the previous generation. On expensive versions, TEMS pneumatic adjustable suspension with AVS system was used, the parameters of which can be adjusted as desired, and all brakes, front and rear, are ventilated discs with an increased diameter of the discs themselves, for better braking dynamics. The all-wheel drive used on some versions is permanent, with an asymmetrical center differential and a hydraulic lock. Steering - rack and pinion with electric booster.

Starting with this generation, the Toyota Crown is already equipped with VSC and TRC active safety systems as standard. Two airbags - driver and front passenger - by default. They can be supplemented with side cushions (standard in expensive trim levels). A lane departure warning system is available as an option. Toyota Crown body - increased strength.

The global improvement definitely benefited the Toyota Crown - the car turned out to be stylish, modern, even more powerful and proved its right to be considered an exemplary Japanese luxury sedan in the new century. However, numerous innovations, in particular the appearance of new engines, have significantly increased the requirements for operation. Therefore, owners of a used Toyota Crown of this generation should not rely on the low cost of ownership, as was typical for cars of previous generations.

13th generation

The 2008 Crown no longer offers simple, inexpensive Royal Extra trims. Now these are only the chic Royal Saloon and Athlete. The first option is distinguished by an elegant design of the radiator grille, a square shape of the fog lights. The key accent in the Athlete package is sportiness, which is indicated by a more predatory "muzzle" with a mesh radiator grille, wide cutouts in the front bumper, round "eyes" of fog lights. The modification of the Crown Hybrid with a hybrid power plant externally differs in details - a slightly different radiator grille, light blue trim for rear optics, THS2 label under the rear right lamp. Since 2008, it has been produced on the basis of the Crown Athlete, since 2010 - on the basis of the Crown Royal. To commemorate the record production of the Crown in 2009 (over 5 million units since the first generation), the Anniversary Edition and Special Edition were offered with exclusive interior trims and a selection of extras. A year later, separate configurations were released for the 55th anniversary of the model.

Power units of traditional gasoline versions are V-shaped "sixes" already familiar from the last generation with a direct injection system and variable valve timing: 4GR-FSE (2.5 liters, 215 hp), 3GR-FSE (3.0 l, 256 hp) and 2GR-FSE (3.5 l, 315 hp). Since 2010, the 2.5-liter engine has been slightly "strangled" in order to please the new requirements of environmental standards and, accordingly, taxation. As before, the most powerful engine in the series is powered only by the Crown Athlete. At the same time, the tuning studio Toyota Modellista offers a "charged" version of the "Crown Athlete + M Super Charger". The power of the 2GR-FSE with a mechanical supercharger reached 360 hp and the torque rose from 368 to 498 Nm. Such an indicator as power density is only 4.69 kg per force! The basis for the second generation hybrid power plant was the same 3.5-liter 2GR-FSE. In terms of power, it is only slightly inferior to a conventional engine, but in terms of the amount of exhaust gases it is comparable to a modest two-liter engine. The EV Drive mode is provided, in which the car can move for a short time only due to electricity.

The Athlete and Royal trim levels are equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission with AI-SHIFT system and three operating modes: Sport, Snow, Eco mode. Both versions have four-wheel drive options (“i-Four” configurations). The Crown Hybrid comes with a CVT.

In addition, the Crown is equipped with AI-AVS shock resistance management, VDIM dynamics management and VGRS active steering, all of which operate in conjunction with satellite navigation.

Toyota Crown demonstrates the highest level of safety approach. The generation comes standard with a whole range of electronic systems: anti-lock braking system (ABS with EBD), braking assist system (BAS), electronic stability control (ESP), traction control (TCS), adaptive road lighting (AFS). As an option, the latest development is available - a device that monitors the state of the driver's eyes. In the event of a threat of collision, if the driver's eyes are closed or not directed to the road, the device gives an alarm and activates emergency braking. The new platform is integrated with all control systems in the vehicle, thus doubling overall efficiency compared to the previous generation. Seven airbags are included as standard.

Despite the fact that the next, thirteenth generation of the Toyota Crown has already been released, the models of this generation are not very common on the market - all the same, protective measures affect, and prices bite quite enough. Accordingly, spare parts, service too. And yet this Crown is definitely worth the money. After all, this is one of the most luxurious cars available on the used car market.

14th generation

In December 2012, the fourteenth generation Toyota Crown was launched. Even by the ultra-modern design alone, one can affirmatively judge that this is a truly "royal" car, worthy of wearing the emblem in the form of a crown on the grille. Toyota Crown is the flagship of the company and the car, the name of which has been associated with the highest level of comfort and production quality for almost six decades. The new generation Crown, built on the S210 platform, has become the largest in the history of the model. The wheelbase is now 2.85 m, which is 7 cm more than the previous generation Crown.
For several generations (starting from the eleventh), the car has been produced in two versions - the chic Royal and the sporty Athlete - with some differences in design, suspension settings and trim levels. The interior of the Crown Royal is built on the principle of "in harmony with contrast": different colors of panels, seat details, three-layer dashboard create a feeling of airiness and depth at the same time, visually freeing up additional space. Crown Athlete color schemes tend to darker and less contrasting tones. For most configurations, an automatically sliding steering wheel and driver's seat are provided for easy boarding and disembarkation; electric drive, ventilation and heated front seats. The Crown Royal also features electric drive and heated rear seats. This chic version also features dual air conditioning and a rear center armrest with integrated air conditioning and audio controls.

Three types of engines are installed on the Toyota Crown. For the Crown Royal, these are 2.5-liter engines. The base gasoline 4GR-FSE with direct injection and 203 hp, as well as a hybrid power plant based on the 2AR-FSE engine. The power is not so great - 178 hp, but the fuel consumption is amazingly low - only 4.3 liters per "hundred". If, on the contrary, translate into kilometers per liter, it turns out that the hybrid Crown is capable of traveling 23.2 km on one liter, while with a conventional gasoline engine - 11.4 kilometers. The same engines are used in the Crown Athlete, as well as the 3.5-liter 2GR-FSE with 315 hp.

Toyota Crown suspension - independent. Double wishbone front and multi-link rear. Having slightly expanded in size, the car at the same time acquired a lower center of gravity, which improved stability. The Crown Athlete uses an adaptive system of stepless suspension stiffness: it provides high agility and directional stability, maintaining a high level of ride comfort in dynamic modes in various situations. "Automatic" petrol versions are equipped with a built-in controller for driving and acceleration control DRAMS, which adapts to the driver's actions. Crown with conventional motors are equipped with automatic transmissions. For a 2.5-liter engine, this is a 6-speed automatic transmission (rear-wheel drive or full). For 2GR-FSE - 8-speed. The hybrid Crown is equipped with a CVT.

This generation has several default preventive protection systems on all trim levels: these are stability control (VSC) and traction control (TRC) systems; brake force distribution (EBD) as an add-on to ABS; traction control system (TCS). As options: intelligent head light control system; radar cruise control, which provides not only constant speed control, but also acceleration and braking control depending on the traffic situation. Toyota Crown earned the highest JNCAP ratings for its superior crash protection. In particular, the driver and passengers are protected by seven (Crown Athlete) or nine (Crown Royal) airbags, as well as active head restraints.

Toyota crown

Toyota Crown is a full-size business-class sedan, one of the oldest Toyota cars produced. The history of Crown has been going on since 1955, and since then 14 generations of this car have already changed. The location of this sedan in Toyota's lineup is located just above the Avalon and under the flagship of the Japanese company's passenger car line - Toyota Century. Analogues of Toyota Crown and its competitors: Nissan Fuga, Cadillac CTS, Hyundai Grandeur, Buick LaCrosse and other cars of European class E.

Toyota Crown engines are a wide range of various installations. In the latest versions, this is mainly the V6 with a displacement of 2.5 liters, 3.0 liters, 3.5 liters, belonging to the GR family. At the same time, the V8 UR series was also installed, with and without a compressor. On 2003 and older Crown models, the 1JZ and 2JZ in-line six-cylinder engines were used. Simpler versions were equipped with a 2-liter 1G engine. In addition to all of the above, other engines were installed on the Toyota Crown, including diesel ones.

Below are the main data and reviews of Toyota Crown engines, their technical characteristics, problems and repairs, practical service life, tuning, compressor, which oil to pour, how often to change, how much to fill, etc.

Throughout its history, this model has already gone through more than a dozen of all kinds of updates. And now, more recently, the next restyling of the car was shown - Toyota Crown 2018. The car itself is a luxury representative of the brand, which has a bright, even sporty design, excellent interior trim and more or less solid technical filling.

So far, only a concept car has been shown, so perhaps not all of what is on the test sample will go into mass production. The new model stands out for its length - almost 5 meters, as well as a large number of sharp elements in the design.

The front is very long and slightly sloped. The hood is perfectly flat throughout. The optics located in its lateral parts have a parallelogram shape and excellent filling.

The grille takes up most of the muzzle. She received a trapezoidal shape, as well as a large mesh inside. It ends with a chrome strip, under which there is another pair of air intakes that serve to access cold air to the brakes. Small rounds of fog lights are also located here.

On the sides, the new body is decorated in a rather restrained form. The mirrors and door handles were revised and the windows got a new shape. A completely new element was added - windows in the side pillars near the roof. Below in the photo you can see the aerodynamic body kit.

Least of all the car changed at the back. Of the new, only modified optics can be noted, as well as the lower part of the bumper, which has become more aggressive and replenished with a dual exhaust.

Salon

The features of the interior decoration that the new 2018-2019 Toyota Crown will receive were not announced at the presentation, but we can safely assume that the best materials in decoration will be used here - leather, good fabric, as well as wood with metal.

Prior to this, all versions of the car had a well-designed dashboard, on which one could find a large multimedia screen, as well as several rows of buttons responsible for more fine-tuning of comfort elements. The tunnel was luxuriously equipped - wood trim, many compartments for things, as well as a comfortable gearbox handle with parking brake and a long armrest.

The steering wheel has always had some multimedia, but depending on the version, it was always different. The instrument panel also takes on a traditional look, where there are always large speed and revs sensors and a vertically placed on-board computer screen.

There is no doubt about the availability of well-made armchairs, into which most modern technologies will be built. The back row of these cars has always been conducive to spending more time on it. It is usually also represented by two decent seats, and the level of media available is no worse than that of the front row.

Judging by the photo, Toyota Crown 2018 will also receive a luggage compartment that is large enough for a sedan, but it is unlikely that it can be increased by folding the second row of seats.

Technical data

According to some information, Toyota Crown 2018 will receive two gasoline engines, which are boosted by a turbine. The volume of the younger will be 2 liters, and the maximum power that he can give out is 245 horsepower. The second device is a V-shaped "six", the volume of which is 3.5 liters, and the developed power reaches 300 forces.

In the near future, the company also plans to launch into production a hybrid version of the car, which will be driven by a unit consisting of an electric motor and a gasoline unit.

Options and prices

It is precisely confirmed that the new product itself will be able to send data on the technical condition of the car to the service center, thanks to which Toyota specialists will always be able to help you. A special ITS Connect option will also appear, allowing you to establish communication with other machines in the stream.

There is no need to doubt the rich equipment of the model's interior. It would be quite logical to see here: good multimedia, climate control for all zones, many security systems, assistants to facilitate movement and parking, light, rain sensors, adjustments and heating of the steering wheel, windshield, all seats, mirrors, and other functions. How all these elements will be located according to the configuration options is not yet known. The estimated price of the car is 2 million for the basic and 3 million for the extended version.

Release date in Russia

As before, the car will not be delivered to our country, so the start of sales in Russia should not be expected. It's better to go for a test drive right away and buy a new product in European and Asian countries, where it will arrive closer to the summer of 2018.

At the end of June, sales of the new 2018-2019 Toyota Crown sedan will start on the Japanese market. This is the fifteenth generation of the model, which saw the light, it's scary to think, back in 1955. The updated car with the S220 index will replace the 14th generation car (S210), which was produced for six years (2012-2018).

The base price of Toyota Crown 2018-2019 will be about 42 thousand dollars (2.6 million rubles), the upper cost bar will be set at around 65 thousand dollars (4 million rubles). The model will remain exclusively a product of domestic consumption, produced and sold only in its homeland - in Japan. The only export market where the new Crown may appear is China, but it is too early to talk about the prospects for localizing the sedan assembly there.

New platform and increased dimensions

The "fifteenth" Toyota Crown is built on the modern modular GA-L platform, one of the variations of the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) architecture. Many Toyota / Lexus models, including the latest generations, have already switched to this "cart". Having changed the base, the already large car has increased in size. True, the increase occurred only in length (+15 mm) and in the size of the wheelbase (+70 mm), which amounted to 4910 and 2920 mm, respectively. The Japanese left the width the same (1800 mm), and completely reduced the height by 40 mm (up to 1455 mm).

Together with the correction of the body dimensions, Toyota engineers lowered the center of gravity of the car by 15 mm, while simultaneously achieving an almost ideal weight distribution along the axes. For example, in the modification with the "younger" hybrid system, the distribution is generally standard - 50:50, in the other two versions it is close to that - 52:48 (petrol version) and 53:47 ("senior" hybrid).

Body design

The appearance of the 15th generation Toyota Crown serial sedan was declassified back in October 2017, when the concept of the same name was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. He, as expected, was almost an exact copy of the car that had been put on the conveyor belt. The new Crown has seriously changed compared to its predecessor, acquiring more stylish and dynamic body lines with a coupe-like silhouette and bright elements of external decor.

The front of the model received new headlights with LEDs and an original radiator grill that cuts deep into the bumper. The latter acquired a more aggressive and aerodynamically perfect look, acquiring a pronounced splitter and developed side sections with miniature round foglights.

The stern of the novelty is equipped with a compact trunk lid with a sharpened spoiler edge, luxurious lanterns with a complex pattern and a solid bumper with a powerful diffuser, on the sides of which there are round single or double exhaust pipes (depending on the version).

In profile, the four-door, with all its solidity and respectability, now looks much more swift and recklessly. This perception is provided by a long hood, an elegant dome of the roof with a "shark fin" and an elongated rear window, an impressive, but not at all seemingly overweight, stern. A distinctive feature of the new model will be a six-window layout of the side glazing with additional sections at the C-pillars.

Salon and equipment

The interior of Toyota Crown, with all the abundance of innovations, has retained the classic configuration with a high central tunnel, comfortable first-row seats and spacious rear seats. However, the developers have thoroughly redesigned the console, according to the latest trends, placing two information screens on it at once. The upper one, protruding above the panel, is responsible for multimedia and navigation, the lower trapezoidal shape is for the climate control and seat settings. The instrument cluster has remained faithful to the traditional scheme - well-readable, circular scales on the sides and a small on-board computer display in the center. The armrest between the front seats, although it looks as massive as before, is actually 30 mm lower, which is made for the convenience of the driver.

Interior

The richest configurations of the updated sedan will delight you with the widest choice of equipment and high-quality finishing. In the presence of leather interior upholstery (in the initial versions only the top of the front panel is covered with leather), electric adjustment and ventilation of the front seats, a rearview camera, the latest security systems, ITS Connect system for communication with other vehicles and road infrastructure. On the second row, a separate remote control is built into the armrest for controlling the media system, climate and seats. The rear landing, by the way, remained almost unchanged, although the increase in the distance between the axles, it would seem, made it possible to free up additional legroom. But Toyota engineers decided that it would be more expedient to increase the margin of space in front of the driver by moving the front wheels away from him.
