OM616

You can do it, but if you put a too powerful engine on the UAZ, then at a sharp start it can "break" the box, the transfer case, bridges or cardan. Agree, little pleasant. An excellent example of this is the German OM616 diesel engine from Mercedes-Denz, a rather ancient, but at the same time reliable engine that does not require super professional skills for its assembly and disassembly. However, it is quite problematic to find such a motor in good condition today, and the technical characteristics are not particularly impressive: only 72 hp. at 4400 rpm and 138 Nm at 2400 rpm, the only good news is that the torque is available from the very bottom.

Surprisingly, the thrust feels good, provided the wheels are no more than 33 inches. The maximum speed will be somewhere around 110 km / h. It can be compared with the ZMZ-402, the consumption is in the region of 10 liters per "hundred", and this unit is not particularly picky about the quality of diesel fuel.

1KZ-TE

On the UAZ hunter, you can put a Japanese engine 1KZ-TE or 2L-T, in the case of the latter, under the front universal joint, you will have to grind a plate about 2 cm thick, and also move the main cooling radiator slightly forward. The 1KZ-TE is one of the best Japanese diesel engines, and soon after its release, it replaced the older 2LT engine. The three-liter 1KZ-TE has a cast-iron block in its composition, the maximum torque is available already from 2000 rpm, and the power is about 130-140 horsepower. Among the shortcomings, one can single out: the use of an electronic injection pump, which is undoubtedly a disadvantage in terms of reliability. Nissan Qd-32 and Td 27

Here are a couple more Japanese engines from Nissan. The cost of these engines is about the same and amounts to about 80 thousand rubles, so it's up to you which one to install. The TD 27 is heavy and noisy, but that's because the cylinder block and head are cast iron, but the engine is very reliable. The power of the Qd-32 is much higher, so the Atlas box and razdatka are usually paired with it. Engine on UAZ: types, brands and manufacturers

The first UAZ cars (various modifications of the UAZ-469) were equipped with engines from the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant - for that time they were powerful (75 hp) and reliable engines that proved to be the best in the most difficult conditions. However, later, in parallel with the Ulyanovsk engines, power plants of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant began to be installed on UAZs. And to this day, engines of both factories can be found equally often on Ulyanovsk SUVs.

What engines does each of the factories offer? There are a lot of models and modifications, and among them you can choose motors for solving a variety of tasks.

Engines of the Ulyanovsk Motor Plant (UMP)

The Ulyanovsk Motor Plant is located in Ulyanovsk, it is part of the GAZ Group and produces engines for light commercial vehicles, including UAZs.

For installation on various models of UAZ vehicles, carburetor and injection four-cylinder UMZ engines are used.

Carburetor:

UMZ-4178 (AI-92 82 hp);
- UMP-421 (AI-92 110 hp);
- UMP-4218 (AI-92, modifications 103 and 105 hp).


Injectors:

UMP-4213 (AI-92, modifications 110 and 115 hp, as well as modifications for power steering);
- UMP-4213 "Euro-3" (AI-92, 123 hp).


It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that all these engines are presented in two modifications - with lever and diaphragm clutch. Also, a number of engines have modifications for installing power steering.

UMZ carburetor engines are mainly used to replace out-of-production UAZ models (predecessors of UAZ "Hunter" and others). And more modern UMZ-4213 engines of various modifications are universal power plants that currently work in all new models of UAZ vehicles.

Engines of the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (ZMZ)

Zavolzhsky Motor Plant (Zavolzhye city, Nizhny Novgorod region) offers a wide range of engines for UAZ, including engines of ecological class "Euro-3" (produced since 2008) and "Euro-4". The line includes both traditional carburetor and modern injection engines. All ZMZ engines are four-cylinder.

Carburetor:

ZMZ-402.10 (92 hp);
- ZMZ-402.17 (92 hp, modification for a tropical climate);
- ZMZ-4104 (96 hp).


Injection:

ZMZ-409 (143 hp);
- ZMZ-40904 (143 hp, "Euro-3");
- ZMZ-4091 ("Euro-2", "Euro-3");


The most widespread are various modifications of ZMZ-40904 engines, which are currently installed in UAZ "Hunter", "Patriot" and others. Engines ZMZ-4091 are mainly installed on UAZ-3741 ("Tablet"), UAZ-3303 and UAZ-2206 (minibus).

Also Zavolzhsky plant offers a line of modern diesel engines ZMZ-514 of ecological classes "Euro-3" and "Euro-4". These power plants are mainly installed on UAZ "Hunter" vehicles. These are the most modern and promising developments with excellent technical characteristics, reliability and a high resource.

Foreign engines

Recently (since 2008) UAZ "Hunter" cars equipped with an ANDORIA 4CTi90 diesel engine have been on sale. This power plant has shown itself from the best side, and now the demand for UAZs with it is quite high.

Diesel ANDORIA is produced in Poland and is supplied in two modifications corresponding to the Euro-2 and Euro-3 ecological classes. The motors are equipped with turbochargers and have a capacity of 86 to 102 hp.

Resource of engines for UAZ

One of the main characteristics of the engine that interests the car owner is its resource. In fact, it is not entirely correct to use the term "engine resource", since the engine life and mileage before failure or before the need for overhaul depends on many factors. In particular, low-quality fuels and, to an even greater extent, oils, the use of the car in difficult road conditions (off-road), the nature of driving, etc., reduce the engine resource.

Therefore, manufacturers set different warranty periods for motors. Now ZMZ and UMP give a guarantee for their engines from 12 to 36 months, or for mileage from 30 to 100 thousand kilometers.

However, in real conditions, most UAZ engines work longer. For example, with active operation on city and rural roads, the engine can be operated uninterruptedly for 2 years, or over 120 thousand kilometers can be covered. With more careful operation, the ZMZ and UMP motors can walk up to 300, and in other cases, up to 500 thousand kilometers without problems.

But with high mileage, it is necessary to overhaul the engine (since worn out parts simply cannot provide the necessary parameters), and in some cases, completely change the power unit. And with current engine prices for UAZ (from 63 to 208 thousand rubles), it is often much easier and cheaper to buy a new engine than to repair an old one.
