Therefore, the four-cylinder "YaMZ-204" can be called the predecessor of the "534th", but only with a stretch.

After all, "YaMZ-534" is a medium in-line diesel engine, developed, as they say, "from scratch" by the design bureau of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant, together with the Austrian engineering bureau "A.V.L.ListGmbh".

Distinctive features of "YaMZ-534" are compliance with modern environmental standards "Euro-4"; the presence of an electronic control unit (ECU) and the use of a modern direct injection system using the Common Rail fuel system.

The achievement of a high level of environmental standard was made possible in large part by the use of the EGR system. One of the advantages of such a solution is the simplification, and therefore, the reduction in the cost of placing the engine on the car.

YaMZ-534 is a fundamentally new design, using the most relevant and advanced solutions, the rights to which belong to the GAZ Group (the Yaroslavl Motor Plant has been part of this holding in recent years).

For the serial production of diesel engines of the 530th family, a completely new plant was built and launched as part of YaMZ - JSC Avtodiesel. This new enterprise is located on the current outskirts of the city, as the locals say - "beyond the Volga", about twenty minutes' drive from the old plant.

This is the most modern production of diesel engines not only in Russia, but throughout Eastern Europe.

However, the new Yaroslavl four-cylinder diesel engines do not entirely consist of imported components and components, as it might seem. For example, the fuel equipment "CommonRail" is of Russian production, from the Yaroslavl Diesel Equipment Plant.

The electronic control unit and, which is especially characteristic, the software for it, were developed by the St. Petersburg company "ABIT", and the production of the ECU itself was mastered at the Starooskolsk plant of automotive electrical equipment.

The production of electronically controlled fuel injectors providing increased spray pressure and multiphase injection (in three portions) has been established at the Altai Precision Products Plant in the city of Barnaul.

Currently, the price list of the Yaroslavl Motor Plant includes nine modifications of the YMZ-534, in the power range from 136 to 190 horsepower. The YaMZ-534 / CNG gas engine, which has become the fruit of cooperation with the Canadian production company WestPort, is allocated in a special order.

In terms of their capabilities, YaMZ-534 engines are very versatile. These motors effectively perform the functions of power units on a variety of vehicles weighing up to 12 tons, together with a load; or on road trains weighing up to 21 tons. It is allowed to use these engines on cars with the number of wheels from 4 to 6, with driving two or four wheels.

Initially, diesel engines "YaMZ-534", all their modifications and configurations were intended for installation on trucks "MAZ", "Ural" (new model), "GAZ" and "GAZonNext" (on gas fuel), as well as on small and medium-sized buses of the PAZ brand.

The key differences between the individual modifications are, first of all, in the settings of the ECU - an electronic fuel supply system optimized for specific tasks.

A more detailed overview of the specific application of modifications of these motors is as follows:

  • "YaMZ-5340" - basic modification used as a power unit for trucks, dump trucks, chassis, tractors with wheel arrangement "4x2", "4x4", "6x2", "6x4", with a total weight of up to 12 tons, road trains based on them up to 21 tons - Minsk Automobile Plant "MAZ". There are also three additional modifications: with preparation for the installation of an air conditioning compressor ("YaMZ-5340/01"), with a fan ("YaMZ-5340/02"), with a fan + preparation for the installation of an air conditioning compressor ("YaMZ-5340/03" ).
  • "YaMZ-53402" - designed for trucks "Ural-432065" and other cars of the "Ural" brand, including off-road vehicles with a 4x4 wheel arrangement, with a total weight of up to 13 tons, for road trains based on them up to 24 tons in weight. A separate special modification "YaMZ-53402-10" is used as part of the tracked snow and swamp-going vehicle "ZZGT".

  • "YaMZ-5341" - this engine is used as a power unit for the following MAZ vehicles: medium-tonnage vehicles, on a 4x2 vehicle chassis with a total weight of up to 6 tons, for road trains based on them up to 10 tons, and for buses.
  • "YaMZ-5341/10" - this motor is used as a power unit for buses of the PAZ-320412 family, with a gross weight of up to 11 tons. There is also a special modification "YaMZ-5341/11" for the installation of an air conditioning compressor.
  • "YaMZ-5342" - it is used as a power unit for buses of the models "PAZ-320402", "PAZ-4234", "PAZ-3237", with a total weight of up to 11 tons.
  • "YaMZ-5344" - modification for buses of the PAZ-32053 brand.
  • "YaMZ-5344-10" - a variant of a diesel engine specially for medium-tonnage trucks of the GAZ-3308 (Sadko) and GAZ-3309 families.
  • "YaMZ-53442" - a special modification designed for medium-tonnage off-road trucks of the GAZ-3308 family and their chassis.
  • "YAMZ-534 / CNG" - the newest and most "promising" modification, launched into production only at the end of 2015. Powered by gas. It will initially be equipped with new versions of GAZ trucks, and in the near future - the widest range of all kinds of equipment for various purposes.

In addition, since May 2014, the plant launched mass production of the forced modification - "YaMZ-53472-10", with a capacity of 215 horsepower at 2600 rpm, specially designed for the new army armored vehicles "GAZ-233036" (aka "SMP-2" Tiger ").

Thanks to the innovative CommonRail direct injection fuel system, equipped with an ECU - an electronic control unit, accurate fuel delivery calibration parameters are achieved for a number of diverse operating modes. This makes it possible to simultaneously ensure both a decrease in fuel consumption and an increase in the efficiency of the engine.

He is not afraid of severe frosts, but the presence of pre-heating is only optional here. The engine has 4 strokes, supplied air cooling and liquid cooling. The American is very similar to his direct rival, but not the same.

The motor also meets Euro-4 environmental standards. All versions can accelerate to 110 km / h. The average fuel consumption per 100 kilometers will be 18 liters at a speed of 80 km / h. Transmission

Brake system

Steering

The steering wheel itself is quite ergonomic, but it can only be adjusted vertically. It has a built-in radio control. To make it convenient and pleasant to drive a medium-duty truck, there is a modern hydraulic power steering from ZFLS, which works quite quietly. In 2014, the Gorky Automobile Plant began production of a new family of medium-duty trucks, Lawn-Next, which were produced in parallel with the GAZ-3309 trucks. Lawn-Next

The base engine for Lawn-Next is an in-line 4-cylinder turbodiesel YaMZ-53441 engine. It has a volume of 4.43 liters and is capable of developing 149 hp. and reach a torque of 490 Nm. Lawn-Next is a car of a new family that replaced the GAZ-3309. Carrying capacity of Next has increased by 500 kg and is offered with two wheelbases, which significantly expands the possibilities of using the machine. On Lawn-Next, the bonnet layout is preserved. This solution is more preferable for a truck that will be operated not only on asphalt, but also on dirt roads. The absence of overloading of the front wheels of the car with a load and the unloading of the drive axle when driving empty gives a bonneted truck a number of advantages compared to classmates with a cab over the engine. Plus the simplicity and ease of access to this very engine, which is also not unimportant. Along with a large number of new components and assemblies, the modernized components of the GAZ-3309 were also used in the Next design. This does not reduce the cost of the machine in production, but also makes it easier to maintain.

Engine

The heart of the Lawn is the YaMZ-534 diesel engine, which belongs to the new family of Yaroslavl engines YaMZ-530. Components from leading world manufacturers are widely used in the design of these diesel engines. In particular, a new-generation Common Rail fuel system from Bosch was used, adapted to run on Russian fuel. The engine resource is 700,000 km, while the cost of spare parts and consumables is 20% lower than that of foreign analogues.

The main competitors of YaMZ-534 in Russia are diesel engines MMZ-D-245 and Cummins-ISF-3.8. At the same time, the Yaroslavets significantly surpasses the Minsk engine both in power (148.9 hp versus 119 hp) and in torque (490 Nm versus 420 Nm). If we compare YaMZ and Cummins, then with almost the same power (148.9 hp and 152.3 hp), the Yaroslavl motor reaches its maximum earlier (2300 rpm versus 2600 rpm). The engine torque is practically equal - 490 and 491 Nm, but YaMZ keeps it up to 2100 engine rpm, and Cummins only up to 1900. Another pleasant surprise - with its 148.9 horsepower, YaMZ falls into the category of engines up to 150 hp. which allows you to save on taxes and insurance.

Transmission

The gearbox and drive axle of GAZon Next have undergone a deep modernization. To reduce noise in the gearbox, bearings from Schaeffler and SKF are used. Thanks to Oerlicon synchromesh (in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gears), the effort on the lever when shifting gears is significantly reduced. To prevent oil leakage, Rubena and Simrit cuffs are installed (the drive axle has got the same cuffs). The design of the modernized box allows you to completely abandon overgassing and double squeezing of the clutch. The clutch itself is completely new, from ZF, with a hydraulic Luk drive. Its main advantages are reduced pedal effort and travel. The cardan transmission of the machine has also been completely updated. At GAZon Next, a two-shaft maintenance-free Dana Spicer transmission is installed, which does not need lubrication during maintenance during the entire service life of the machine. The cardan gear attachment should be checked every 15 thousand kilometers, that is, three times less often than its predecessor.

Chassis

The Lawn frame has been redesigned with reinforced side members at the front and new rear front suspension brackets. The design of the front cross member has also been changed to allow the installation of a new bumper and towing devices. The frame has a cataphoresis coating to protect against corrosion. The rear suspension has not undergone significant changes, but the front axle is suspended on the Lawn-Next on small-leaf springs, the ends of which are embedded in rubber-metal hinges. Both axles are equipped with anti-roll bars. The front axle is also equipped with Tenneco hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers.

Disc wheels of the Lawn-Next can be either collapsible, with a 6.0B-20 rim and a footless mount according to the ISO standard, or non-collapsible, with a 6.75 × 19.5 rim. The former are intended for tubeless tires 8.25R20, the latter for tubeless tires 245 / 70R19.5. The use of tires of international dimension with a landing diameter of 19.5 significantly expands the choice of the most suitable rubber for the operation of a truck in various conditions.

Steering

The new ZF-LS integral steering with variable gear ratio provides high information content and ease of operation, which are not inferior to foreign counterparts. The CSA steering column is tilt-adjustable and does not require lubrication of the propeller shaft joints during maintenance. It takes 4.2 turns of the steering wheel to turn the wheels from extreme left to full right. As an option, there are duplicate audio control buttons located on the steering wheel.

Brake system

Completely new, pneumatically driven, from Wabco. The brakes of all wheels are disc, ventilated, with a brake pad resource of 200 thousand km and a wear indicator. Anti-lock braking (ABS) and traction control (ASR) systems, as well as electronic brake force distribution (EBD), Lawn-Next is standard. The pneumatic braking system provides more than just an air bleed function for the drive of special superstructure units. It enables the machine to work with a trailer equipped with pneumatic brakes. The brake system of GAZon Next is designed for a total weight of 12 tons. Thus, the Lawn, with its own GVW of 8.7 tons, can tow a trailer with a GVW of 3.3 tons.

Cabin

The cab of the new Lawn is completely unified with the Gazelle-Next cab. In a single row design, it is designed for three people. Such advantages of this cab as ease of entry and exit, excellent visibility and excellent ergonomics of the workplace have already been highly appreciated by the drivers of the new Gazelles. There is no doubt that all these advantages will be inherent in Lawn-Next. As an option for the Lawn, a ceiling console with a shade and a 1DIN tachograph compartment will be offered. Among the features of the standard Lawn configuration that are not available for all competitors-classmates, are the sprung TIS driver's seat, Brose power windows and the Kiekert door locking system with central locking.

As for the plumage (it is naturally original on the machine), then all parts that are exposed to the maximum effect of aggressive environments are made of galvanized steel. Hood side liners, inner shrouds and fender liners, as well as the radiator grille are plastic. With better corrosion resistance, they are much lighter than steel, which favorably affects the carrying capacity of the car.

Body

For both standard and long-wheelbase Lawn-Next, two versions of the onboard platform will be developed: a standard 2176 mm wide and a wide 2450 mm one. When transporting goods on Euro pallets, this ensures more efficient use of the machine. Judge for yourself: a lawn with a standard base and body (length 3500 mm, width 2176 mm) is capable of transporting 6 euro pallets in one trip. In the case of using a wide platform, the capacity of the body increases by one and a half times, that is, the car transports 9 euro pallets in one trip. For a long-wheelbase car, these indicators - 10 and 12 euro pallets - is a 20% increase in the cargo transported at a time. The economic effect is evident. Add to this the reduction in the time for loading and unloading due to the low loading height (1300 mm on tires and 1165 mm on tires) and it becomes clear that the new GAZon practically has no competitors on the Russian market.
