Heard a lot of negative things about the first Captiva and treated her the same way, even without having experience driving it. But when he accidentally found himself in the salon of the second Captiva, he was pleasantly surprised. Reviews were not yet normal and then they suggested at work to choose a car in the region of 20 t. Euro. The second Captiva in the LTS + package was given after long negotiations for 19,500 euros. Engine 2.4 (167 hp), 6-speed automatic, 7 seats, leather, 65 liter tank, light and rain sensors, etc. Mileage for a month and a half 2300 km. Still low mileage to create an informed opinion about the car, but the first impression is only positive. For that kind of money, Japanese and Europeans are available in a lower class. One of the cars at the company - RAV4 2011 onwards. in the configuration is poorer (2.0, 150 hp, but more expensive by 3.5 thousand Eur. Rav is tougher, weaker, noisier, less, etc.) Once I went to the RCV in 2000, but I will not compare so. because the generation gap is huge.

While the car is very happy, the consumption of 13 liters per hundred in the city with air conditioning. The assembly is Korean, nothing squeaks or whistles.

The box is adaptive, the first thousand were sooooo much dull, now it's better, they promise that it will be even better.

There are many pluses, many options. The electric parking brake is very interesting, you put and remove it by pressing the buttons, but if you press the gas in the Drive position, it will be removed by itself. Due to the space saving (lack of a parking brake lever), a huge pocket for all sorts of things is located between the front seats (a box of whiskey fits calmly :)

Bluetooth allows you to play tunes from iPhone (there is no such thing in Rava).

The exterior design is beautiful, people turn to look at the car, the only bad thing is that the tailgate was left unchanged.

The plastic is soft, nothing creaks in the cabin, but it's too early to talk about it. In Rava, the first creaks appeared closer to 10 thousand km.

Good noise insulation and smooth running.

Cons: it is difficult to adjust the climate so that it does not hit the driver or passenger; the light sensor is very sensitive and turns on the near one a little early; the front bumper is too "heavy" and because of this small ground clearance (corrected by removing the bumper apron)

I know that sales of this version have not yet begun in Russia, our Chevrolet dealer in Chisinau belongs to Europe and this model is already being sold in full.

So, on board 9000 km. Nothing knocks, does not creak, does not break. The car is still happy. Longest trips of five in a car: Chisinau-Bucharest (480 km). The car behaves with dignity, keeps the track (compare with the Prado). The speed was raised to 180 km / h.

He took off the lower apron of the front bumper and put on Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V1 235/65 R17 winter tires. Due to this, the road clearance has increased and the car behaves predictably both on snow and on ice. At -23 degrees, it started up immediately and warmed up in 10 minutes of the road. heated mirrors and rear window works fine. It would be nice to have a seat heating regulator, but not in principle.

Headlight washer covers were stolen. I don’t understand who needed them, but they cost 35 euros apiece.

waiting for 15,000 and there we'll see what's what.

Good day, dear "car dealers"!

I am the owner of this car for 8 months. But let's start, as they say from the beginning!

I approached buying a car very seriously, as my girlfriend said: "Even too ...". I chose for a long time, read reviews, went for a test drive, watched tests on the Internet, consulted with friends, etc. The budget was capped at 1.5 million rubles. I chose a medium-sized crossover, preferably a 7-seater (but this parameter was not decisive), the engine was not of the smallest volume, so as not to feel inferiority when overtaking and at traffic lights, but not more powerful than 250 hp. (due to the tax rate), four-wheel drive, mandatory - automatic transmission, leather interior, preferably "fresh" with low mileage, drive every day, not too gluttonous, not capricious to the quality of gasoline (I live in North Ossetia, the quality of fuel is here terrible), relatively inexpensive tech. service, relatively reliable - such were the main criteria for the future car.

I chose between Nissan X-trail 2.5 (a good car, but not for me, it seems to me that this car is for those who are over 40, I'm 26 years old, in no case do I want to offend X-trail drivers, this is exclusively my opinion), Mazda CX-7 (a car for good roads, does not like mediocrity, very capricious to the quality of gasoline, my good friend was the owner of this car, so he convinced me to refuse to buy this car, because he was tortured by all the consequences of driving a dick. ... m gasoline), Mitsubishi Outlander XL 3.2 (I didn't like the interior, how could you save those 20 cm of leather on the rear seats ??? you sit: half your back on the seat, half your back on a plastic fender ...), Lexus RX ( excellent car, but we did not have such cars on sale nearby in good condition, and there was no desire to go far), BMW X5 3.0 (for such a price they were aged; all the familiar owners of the X-5 complain that the technical service is about -very not cheap and they also say that the car is worth it, I do not argue with that, but keep the data e car would be a sucker for me ...), Volks. Tuareg 3.0 etc. (All that I watched, and these are four pieces, burned "Jackie Chan" - maybe I was so lucky?) ... In general, I chose for a long time ... And then HE appeared on the market, a Chevrolet Captiva, black in perfect condition, not a single scratch, either inside or outside, at the time of purchase, the car was less than a year old (9 months), mileage 7.5 thousand km., 3.2 max. set, tiptronic, 7 seats, etc. Of the special stages, it was installed: a chrome package, a crankcase, a multimedia system, with a TV tuner, DVD, navigation, a rear view camera, a 40 GB hard disk, 9 speakers (9th in the panel), a monitor in the ceiling for the rear passengers and a prefix with games (not very games, but nephew loves to play), alarm with auto start and access system to the salon "without a key" ... The captilka was from the series on which the guys from the "Irmsher" tuning studio worked, it had R20 wheels, thresholds, a spoiler, transparent taillights, and a suspension with a lowered clearance of 30 mm, the seller also assured me that the car had undergone chip tuning, but I did not check this statement ... As a result, after reading a lot of negative reviews about this car, I decided to buy it (I don't even know why), figured out that it was like a Chevrolet, spare parts are not so expensive, etc. I took it with a little caution, because the assembly is Russian, and there are many negative reviews! But after I bargained for up to 1 million rubles, and the previous owner offered me a set of native wheels with R18 disks and summer tires, as well as winter tires with spikes, I decided to buy! In the first week, I installed a lock on the automatic transmission, an active sub. under the seat of the front passenger, xenon in PTF and special. signals (in North Ossetia, it’s not solid to ride without them), pasted over the Chevrolet badges with black glossy vinyl (well, I don’t like these yellow badges, with black ones it looks much more serious IMHO) ... I have been driving every day, for 8 months now, and surprisingly very pleased with the car! Oddly enough, I love this car! She pleasantly surprised me from the first hundred kilometers spent driving this car, and continues to delight me to this day, driving on Kaptilka does not bother me, you can even anneal a little on it, well, of course, to the extent of 3.2 liters (after all, it's not 4 , 8 is), but this motor is enough for this body! Let's start in order: 1) interior: very roomy, thought out to the little things, all the boxes are glued from the inside with material so that nothing rattles in them, there are a lot of these boxes, the seats are as if they were sewn right for me, they hold me well in turns (and this car loves turns), but the lack of electric adjustments in the front passenger and the lack of heating of the rear seats grieves, nothing will not crack anywhere, the second and third row seats fold very easily, forming a flat floor, an outlet in the trunk, a cooled glove box, everything at hand, navigation works amazingly, on the third row of grays, I myself was placed for verification, my height is 178 cm, a little cramped, but in principle it does not bother, my brother has a VAZ 2114, so he has to sit even tighter on the second row, legs in general nowhere to put it; I really liked the function of opening the window on the fifth door, although at first I was skeptical about it, but now I use it all the time, I open the whole fifth door very rarely, the disadvantages of the interior: the appearance is boring, the plastic is cheap, they say it scratches a lot (though I have not a single scratch ), but the ergonomics are at a height, everything is in place, all joints are smooth, the climate works at 5+ both in winter and in summer; 2) exterior: as they say "the taste and color ...", but personally I like it, and the girls like it, and this makes me like it even more :))), but on native wheels Kaptilka looks of course simpler, very I liked the gills in the wings, in good frost even steam comes from them, Kaptilka seems angrier; 3) driving qualities, finally the most important thing: the sound of the engine after three thousand rpm sounds good, but before this mark it is not heard at all (also happy), the suspension is stiff, all the minor irregularities are felt, not only are they felt, they are also on the steering wheel is transmitted, although after the FX 35 date, the mouthguard seemed to me even soft ("35 dates on 20 discs go harder than go-kart"), the running mouthguard is energy-intensive, it happened a couple of times in the "pits", I thought something would fall off, so nothing, the suspension failed to break through. But the other side of rigidity is handling, it is at a height, I wrote above that the mouth guard loves turns, this is so, the harder you press on the gas, the better it flies into these turns, both on dry and on wet asphalt (such as on a winding road in the mountains we were driving with a friend in two cars, it was raining, I was on a drip tray, my friend was in a BMW e39 523i, when he tried to hold onto me in a corner at 120 km / h, he said something like "fuck ... ..r should and let me go forward "(in no case I want to say that my mouth guard drives better than BMW, I just cite an example from my life, so that the picture is presented more fully), now my favorite places to drive are serpentines and paved mountain roads, there are practically no rolls and swaying in this car.The acceleration dynamics is quite decent, in the declared 8.8 sec. to 100 km / h the cars easily fit (why some have problems with acceleration), Clocked the Capa to full, all 220 km / h, but taking into account the speedometer error, most likely this will be the passport 200 km / h, and up to the maximum the mouthpiece accelerates quite confidently ... At first I was very skeptical about the off-road qualities of the mouthguard, after all it is a SUV and from off-road "gadgets" it only has a descent assistance system (by the way, a cool function, I really I like it), but even here I was pleasantly surprised until this car sits on the belly (and because of the thresholds I did it once) it rushes and rushes, I wrote that the previous owner gave me winter tires, but I I haven’t installed it yet, but already the end of January, I drive on summer tires, I’ve never got stuck anywhere, there are no problems at all when starting off, there are problems when braking on ice, ABS tyr-tyr and the car goes and goes, good there is a tiptronic, so I brake on ice with speeds, but I still don't put the spikes, and I ride on summer tires, there is no need ... But still serious off-road, I would not advise to force on Captiva, after all, it's a SUV, I personally try in a serious ass ..... zu on your shevik do not climb, and the pros l tires (245/40) absolutely discourage any desire to test off-road potential. Gasoline consumption, not small: city 13.5 - 14 liters, highway 11 liters. But on the other hand, she is not so capricious about gasoline, I repeat gasoline we have a frank g .... but (how else is conscience enough to take money for it), pour 95, there have never been problems (pah-pah-pah). I was pleased with the adjustable suspension, seven people in the car, and also small luggage, and the car did not even sit down. Oil consumption: there is none, I do not add oil from shift to shift.

4) Reliability, for those who have read this review to the end :), I can not say much about reliability, now I hit 25,000 km, during these kilometers I only changed consumables, and one backlight lamp and that's it! Not any breakdowns and unscheduled changes of spare parts (again pah-pah-pah). True, I am served only by officials.

Overall very happy with the car! Great car to drive every day! I will not shout that the Chevrolet Captiva is better than the cars of a higher class, this is not so, because such cars are more expensive and this is not just that! But the Captiva is certainly worth its money, and among classmates it is a decent car, but as for me it is the best among classmates, given the price / quality ratio, I do not want to offend anyone - my personal opinion. For those who are thinking about buying this car, I advise you to think about whether you need just such a car, but if it suits you, take my advice!

I repeat once again that I am writing a review for the first time, I sincerely hope that my review will help someone when choosing a car.

Good luck everyone!

So Captiva! Bought it in May 2010, a car with a test drive, dv. 3.2, 230 hp, salon 5 seats, 2008 Actually, I wanted a 7-seater, but it had to wait for 5 months, but here it was cheap, with 11 thousand mileage and for another 3 months the guarantee remained. I decided to take a chance ... I suspect that some of the further problems were just a consequence of my riskiness! ? The check caught fire after 800 km - the timing chain. Have changed. After another 1000 km, check again! This time catalysts! Here I was already outraged! Obviously, before selling them to me, they replaced them with shit in the hope that they are going away until the end of the warranty! This is confirmed by the fact that for a whole month they did anything with her, changed the sensors, cleaned some kind of crap there, just did not change the kats! In the end, after the 3rd or 4th arrival at the service, I asked the guys not to suck my brain ... They replaced them ... Both ... I calmed down for 3 months ... In November, again a check - again a chain! To my completely impartial comment, the service threw up their hands, saying that, damn it, they were crazy, it never happened, but since the warranty has ended, then 33,000 rubles of chains (there are 3 of them), 7,000 replacement. So, I say, they changed it 5 months ago! Not too cool every 20 thousand km to spread 40 pieces! Nifiga - everything replaced during the warranty ends with a warranty! In general, I decided to travel like this for now, especially since this check was either burning or extinguished, it did not affect the dynamics of the car too much! And after the consecration of the car in the church, it went out for 3 weeks! ? But then another kick came up! When overtaking a truck, a check lights up the hill, the speed drops! I was sweating ... well at least there was no oncoming lane, but just the left lane. I missed the truck, turned to the side of the road, caught my breath and slowly went to the service! Specialists were poking around, repeating the summer epic, month. In the end, it dawned on them - there is still a third catalyst! In the summer, it was not replaced, since no sensors go to it and what it is worth there is not clear! They offered me to cut it off - cut it off. The sound of the car during acceleration acquired a trolleybus note, but to hell with it! Well, failure of the ABS sensor can be a trifle, not counting the fact that again I had to go to the service 4 times so that the “specialists” were convinced that the problem was in it. By the spring of 2011, the check (as a result of the unreplaced chain) began to burn annoyingly often. The master inspector secretly said that you can take the same chains, but in the Kaddilak salon for 11 thousand! But all the same, the toad choked to give 18 pieces for their unolaberous work! In general, I contacted the head office of GM, dashed off a letter addressed to the dealer. Two days later they said that "Ok!" from them chains, from me payment for work! Replaced! Well, in general, despite the lengthy review, I must say that there were two problems in the car - circuits and catalysts (ABS sensor during our winters and reagents, we can say that it is a consumable, it is strange that one only died)! In general, the car is not bad! For a year and a half of ownership, he changed his place of residence twice, once he made repairs! If not for Capa, he would have faltered! And so in two steps I transported the apartment! When I was selling all the things from the underground in the trunk of Capa put his wife in Solaris, the trunk of Solaris was clogged! I had enough power that on the straight, that in the mountains! City consumption 16-17 liters, on the highway 8-10, but I'm not a racer, when my wife got behind the wheel a couple of liters were added. Great climate - in the summer, in the heat, the norm in the cabin was done in 5 minutes, and the car was driving on the drum or standing still! Having rolled 42 thousand kilometers, I sold the car, and for the last six months there were no problems with it at all, I sold it because my family and I moved from outside the city to the center, there were a lot of two cars! Advertisements were given 2 on both Solaris and Kapu - that will be sold. For some reason, Capa was taken away faster ... Now I'm waiting for an updated Captiva with a diesel engine, I want to see it, we can take it, but still 7-seater, once a year, but I have to deliver a crowd of relatives-friends ... And I also look at Takha ...

The modern car is crammed with electronics. Multiple gauges and warning lights on the instrument panel indicate different malfunctions. This progress has not spared Captiva either. The most famous signal for all is the “CHECK” function. This is a call to the fact that there are problems in the operation of the engine or control unit.

Video

The video will tell and show how to eliminate an engine check on a car

Reasons for the "check" function to light up

The CHECK signal is usually located in the very center of the instrument cluster, where the driver can quickly draw attention to it. This function is responsible for the operation of the engine and if it signals, then there may be problems in the operation of this particular unit. Of course, for any motorist, this is scary, because repairing a power unit is difficult and expensive. But, do not immediately get scared and panic, maybe the reason is petty.

Check fire - to be in trouble.

So, let's consider what are the reasons that the "CHECK" function on the Lada Grant is on fire:

  • If the indicator goes off when the engine starts, then don't worry, everything works.
  • If the "CHECK" lights up and signals for a long time, then, first of all, it is necessary to make a diagnosis, and only then worry.
  • If "CHECK" while driving, it may mean that there is insufficient oil level in the engine.
  • The "CHECK" function is on - it is worth checking the engine for signs of depressurization or oil leakage.

If the above reasons did not work, but the "CHECK" is on, then this may be a signal that the spark plug is out of order or low-quality fuel has been filled.

Illumination of the "CHECK" function signals that something is wrong in the engines and it is worthwhile to carry out diagnostics before taking other actions.

Decoding of error codes.

Elimination methods

Let's consider some options for eliminating the causes of fire in the "CHECK" function on Captiva:

  • Bad fuel. The elimination method is quite simple - we drain the low-quality fuel and fill in new one. We let the motor run a little and turn it off. If everything is normal, then at startup, the signal will disappear.
  • Spark plug. Unscrew everything and check for gaps and sparks. Replace defective spark plugs.
  • Coil or wires. We measure the resistance and the presence of a spark. We change everything if necessary.
  • Fuel pump. One of the reasons why the CHECK can burn. We clean the channels. Or, if necessary, we change the pump itself.

Indicated are those malfunctions that you can fix yourself, if nothing happened, you should contact a car service.

Underwater rocks

If the "CHECK" on the Chevrolet Captiva caught fire, then you should not panic. Often on cars, the signal is supplied from a common ECU, which, like any computer, can malfunction. This can be caused by a short circuit or replacement of electrical components. Therefore, errors occur in the electronic control unit, which can serve as a "CHECK" signal.

The check is on the dashboard.

It is quite simple to treat this malfunction. The ECU itself needs to be connected to a software laptop and fix errors in the system or change outdated firmware. It is best to trust this operation to specialists who know how to do it.

Output

The reasons for the appearance of the "CHECK" function on the Chevrolet Captiva are quite simple, since this sensor is responsible for the full operation of the engine. To identify the causes, it is worthwhile to diagnose and determine why this happened, and only then eliminate it.

Solid, bright, roomy, with off-road potential, the Chevrolet Captiva crossover charmed everyone who loves solidity in everything. But the drawbacks that you need to look out for when buying a used car are also present in this family car. In addition to the weaknesses in this car, there are also disadvantages that every future owner needs to know about.

Weaknesses of the 1st generation Chevrolet Captiva

  • steering rack;
  • timing mechanism drive;
  • stabilizer's pole;
  • oil pressure sensor;
  • brake pads;
  • catalyst.

Details of weak points and their identification ...

Steering rack

1. You can find out about the wear of the steering rack during a test drive or by making a diagnosis. It is necessary to pay attention to the appearance of strong vibration of the steering wheel, extraneous noise in the form of grinding, knocking when driving on an uneven road. The steering wheel turns in any direction will be difficult. This will also generate extraneous sounds. A leak from the steering rack can also be a symptom of a malfunction. It is worth looking into the tank, if the power steering fluid foams a lot, then this is also a sign of a breakdown.

Timing mechanism drive

2. On a Chevrolet Captiva with a 2.4 liter engine, the timing mechanism is driven by a belt. Its wear can turn into not only a break, but also bent valves. The degree of wear can sometimes be determined visually. With a lot of wear, it begins to "shaggy". But the first and main signs are on the inside of the belt and are not always visible.

On a car with a 3.2 liter engine - a timing chain drive. Pulling is a common disease in these machines. This reduces the thrust in the engine, and the on-board computer gives errors.

Chassis

3. The condition of the stabilizer struts is highly dependent on driving style. Problems with them can be identified by driving a car on an uneven road. A knock, increased roll and skid when cornering, as well as rocking when braking will tell about malfunctions of the struts. Experienced drivers can also identify a breakdown by shaking the vehicle from every corner. An abrupt lowering will be a sign of a malfunction.

4. Most often, the front brake pads wear out on the Chevrolet Captiva. This usually happens after a run of about 35 thousand kilometers. The rear pads last almost twice as long. You can find out about their wear on a test drive. With each braking, especially at high speeds, a metallic squeal and grinding will be heard. This sound is triggered by a wear sensor built into the brake pads.

5. The oil pressure sensor is another weak spot of the Captiva. If it is faulty, the oil pressure indicator light will be on. It can light up during overgassing or in other cases of pressure change. However, this is not the only reason when this indication comes on. It signals the failure of the oil pump, lack of oil level, wiring malfunction of this important engine part, as well as problems of the motor itself. Therefore, the best way out when the light is on is diagnostics in the service station.

6. The catalyst is also one of the weak points of this model. It stands on both gasoline and diesel engines. The most obvious sign of a problem with it will be a tight set of speed, then the engine starts working again as usual. But it is not always possible to identify this in one short trip, therefore it is necessary to undergo diagnostics in the service.

In addition to the aforementioned ailments of Captiva, when buying, you must carefully check the general condition of the car. Run and listen for noises, knocks, squeaks, whistles and other strange sounds in the area of \u200b\u200bthe engine compartment, chassis and suspension.

The main disadvantages of the Chevrolet Captiva 2006 - 2011 release

  1. "Crickets" in the cabin in winter;
  2. Low front bumper skirt;
  3. The plastic in the cabin is easily scratched;
  4. Due to the wide front struts, poor visibility;
  5. Rigid suspension;
  6. Fuel consumption is more than declared;
  7. Weak light at night (no xenon);
  8. Pedal differential (brake pedal is higher than gas pedal);
  9. Weak engine.

Conclusion.
This is a fairly reliable crossover and a ride on it will be a real pleasure. With careful operation, the Chevrolet Captiva does not let its owners down with a breakdown. Therefore, when buying a used car, the ideal check is to undergo a full diagnosis in a car service.

P.S .: Dear future and current car owners, if you find sore spots and frequent breakdowns in your car, let us know in the comments.

    Also, the weak point of 2.4 engines is the flow of oil into the candle wells. Replacing the valve cover gasket solves the problem, but not for long. The reason is the plastic valve cover. Apparently over time it leads. Perhaps replacing it with an aluminum one will solve the problem. When buying a used captiva, you should look into the candle wells. just remove the caps of the high-voltage wires from the candles and if a problem is present they will be in the oil.

    Captiva 2014 goals mileage of almost 60 thousand. The stabilizer struts have never changed, so it's not the weakest link. I was surprised by the low mileage of the front hubs of 30-50 km and replaced both front hubs. Not one of my cars had this. Everyone walked almost 100-110 thous. I also changed the solenoid exhaust valve.

  3. Sergei

    Well, Captiva also has a very weak point, the hoses for supplying washer fluid to the rear window. During the minuses, they constantly pop up.

  4. Sergei

    Captiva 2.4 gasoline 2012 in mileage 148,200, replacement of pads 65,000, replacement of the front right strut 105,000, replacement of the left hub 148,000 through no fault of wear, replacement of the rear outer silent blocks 148,000, everything to replace. The problem is that water accumulates in the air in winter from the temperature drop, you have to remove and check (a car blanket is strictly prohibited), the check has been burning for 3 years, it has been sinning on the gas pump, but it works fine, the error cannot be removed, for 4 years the consumption was up to 10 city-highway , now 11 liters. Also 1 time the rear window washer hose popped out. No more problems, I'm happy with the car.

    And how expensive this car is ... I also like it very much. But some say it is expensive to maintain. And my salary is about $ 300

    Chevrolet Captiva 2.2 diesel. The sign of the need for car maintenance lights up on the display. The revs rose to 1600, the diagnostics scolds 4 nozzles.

  7. Alexey

    Captiva 2.4. I change the thermostat every three years in addition to the above. The radiator was also weak this year.

  8. Vitaly

    Bought last 2017 Captiva 2013 onwards. Mileage is now 93 t.km. I'm happy with the car. Consumption 12-12.4l, it seems a bit too much, but for 2.4l, 167hp, probably fine. Climate-auto - with glitches periodically, in manual mode of norms. The automatic engine runs smoothly with good traction. The suspension is stiff on rough roads outside the city, in the city it is very comfortable. Overall happy with the car.

  9. Nikolay

    Koptiva, seven-month 2008 Bought in 2009. Second. I changed the mouthguard to the mouthguard in the salon after two months. The dealer's jamb was proven when installing additional equipment. I am using it to this day. Satisfied. Periodically requires maintenance and repair like any other mechanism. Mileage over 200,000 km. Repeatedly changed the front stabilizer struts. Rear only after 200,000 km. The front and rear stabilizer bushings were replaced after 200 thousand mileage. Replaced brake discs, a pair of parking sensors, twice a gasket under the valve cover. Oil seals leaked: crankshaft, camshaft. I'm changing. I changed the muffler corrugation twice. Was a bummer of the muffler pants. Unscrewed, replaced with a gasket. The hub hummed at 200,000 km. - replacement. In winter, the brushes froze to the frontal - a mechanism for replacement. Replacing the air conditioner switching unit. Replacing the cross on the cardan, I changed the rear axle oil seal twice. Generator - repair. Brushes and bearings are worn out. I changed the front shock absorbers - a divorce at the service. Were a little dusty. I think we would have walked for a long time. The front and rear salenblocks were changed several times.

  10. Sergei

    Chevrolet Captiva 2014 2.4 mileage 75 thousand two times there was a failure in the movement of the front windshield brushes. The first time they got in place. A year later, the second time was a failure. They stop where they want. The service said that the mechanism of their fastening had been unscrewed, the sprockets slipped. As a result, there is some wear on the sprockets. The mechanism was turned on. They said if it turns off again, it needs to be changed

Many of us have faced such a problem as the inclusion of an indication of the engine icon (Check engine ...), the appearance of which scares car drivers. Here are the 5 most common reasons why an engine check comes on on the dashboard.

The engine gauge icon usually appears without warning. The reason for the appearance of the Check engine cannot be immediately understood. Even if there is an auto diagnostics in the car (for example, in such cars as,), which scans all car systems for errors and, if any, displays a decryption on the information panel, the reasons for the engine check will not be decrypted.

For most drivers, the appearance of this warning symbol on the dashboard means that they urgently need to go to a car workshop to diagnose and eliminate the cause of the engine check warning sign. But in fact, in most cases, when the "Check" indication appears, it is possible, and in some cases, perhaps, to eliminate the cause on your own without a trip to a car service, which will save your money.

1. Replace the oxygen sensor (lambda probe)

The oxygen sensor in your car is part of the exhaust gas system that monitors how much oxygen is not burned out in the engine's combustion chamber. This sensor helps to monitor the fuel consumption of the vehicle. A malfunctioning oxygen sensor (lambda probe) means that the car computer receives incorrect data, which can significantly increase fuel consumption and reduce engine power. Most cars have 2 to 4 oxygen sensors. If you have a home car error scanner, then by connecting it to the car, you can easily find out which sensor needs to be replaced.

For what reason the oxygen sensor in the car becomes unusable: Over time, the sensor becomes covered with a layer of used and engine oil (oily soot), which reduces the accuracy of the sensor readings to regulate the gasoline mixture and distribute the optimal one. A malfunction of the oxygen sensor in the car leads not only to, but also to an increased content of harmful substances CO2 in the exhaust.

What needs to be done: If you do not replace a faulty car oxygen sensor, this can lead to the failure of your car's catalyst (may burst), which will result in costly repairs. The cost of new catalysts is very high due to the content of precious alloys in them. On some cars, there are several catalysts, the cost of which can go up to 90,000 rubles. So do not delay replacing the sensor. Although the replacement of the sensor and its cost is not very small, it is incommensurate with the cost of the exhaust gas neutralizer system. You can also save money on replacement by doing it yourself. Many car manuals have detailed instructions on how to replace the oxygen sensor yourself. If you know where the oxygen sensor is, then it will not be difficult for you to disconnect the faulty "lambda probe" and replace it with a new one. Remember that you cannot pull to replace this important element!

2. Check the fuel filler cap

Many drivers in most cases, when the "check engine" indication appears, will think about serious problems in the car's engine, but will not even think to check the tightness of the fuel system, which may be broken due to a defect or insufficiently tightened fuel filler cap. This is a very common cause of the "Check" engine icon.

The reason for the error: Leakage of the fuel system due to the passage of air, the fuel filler cap, will increase the fuel consumption of the car, for which the car diagnostic system will give an engine error by turning on the "Check engine" indication on the dashboard of the car.

What needs to be done: If, when the "Check" indication appears, your car has not lost power, and there are no sound signs of engine damage (knocking in the engine, hum, creaking, etc.), then first of all check the tightness of the gas tank. Your gas cap may be cracked or not tight enough. If the cover was not tight enough, then after tightening it all the way, continue driving the car for a while to see if the engine error disappears. To prevent an engine check from appearing for this reason, regularly check the fuel filler cap. Remember that periodically the cover must be replaced with a new one!

3. Car exhaust catalyst

A car catalyst helps the car to make the engine exhaust gas cleaner. It converts carbon monoxide and other harmful substances into harmless compounds. If your exhaust gas catalyst has become unusable, you will notice this not only when the engine badge (check) appears, but also long before that, when the car's power drops by 2 times. For example, when you press the gas pedal, the car, as before, will not have good acceleration dynamics.

Because of what the automobile catalyst can fail: if you regularly service your car, in accordance with the maintenance regulations of the car company, then the catalyst should not fail. The main reason for the failure of the catalyst is the untimely replacement of a faulty oxygen sensor, as well as irregular replacement of spark plugs at the end of the expiration date. When the oxygen sensor or spark plugs are faulty, the conversion of carbon monoxide in the catalyst into harmless chemical elements stops, which leads to overheating of the catalyst, which can be damaged as a result.

What needs to be done: If your catalyst has become unusable, then you cannot drive the car, since the engine will not work correctly, warning about this by the indication on the dashboard with the engine icon (check). Also, your fuel consumption will be greatly increased, and there will be no engine thrust. Although replacing a catalyst is a very expensive repair, there is nowhere to go from repairs. Although there is an alternative to replacing the catalyst with a flame arrester, this is not a 100 percent option. Unfortunately, if you are not an experienced auto mechanic, then you cannot replace a faulty exhaust gas catalyst yourself. In any case, you will have to go to a car repair shop. Remember that timely replacement of oxygen sensors and spark plugs protects your catalytic converter from damage!

4. Replace MAF sensor

The mass air flow sensor regulates how much air must be added to the gasoline mixture for optimal fuel ignition. The sensor continuously informs the vehicle computer of the amount of oxygen supplied. A defective MAF sensor increases fuel consumption, increases CO2 levels in the exhaust gas, and decreases engine power and ride comfort. Also, with a faulty sensor, poor acceleration dynamics is observed. In cold weather, a car with a faulty sensor will not start well.

What are the reasons for the failure of the mass air flow sensor: Most sensor failures occur due to improper installation of the air filter during its scheduled replacement. Also, if you do not regularly change the air filter, as required by the vehicle maintenance schedule recommended by the manufacturer, the MAF sensor may fail.

What needs to be done: In theory, you can drive for a long time with a broken MAF sensor (several weeks or months). But you will notice that the longer you drive, the more fuel consumption increases. Replacing a sensor in a car service is not that expensive, since the work itself does not take much time and is quite simple. The main costs are associated with the cost of the sensor, which for some car models can be 11,000-14,000 rubles if it is an original sensor or up to 6,000 rubles if it is an analog substitute. Replacing the sensor yourself is very easy. But due to the low cost of replacing the sensor, you can entrust this work to the master in the car service. Remember that you need to regularly change the air filter, observing the vehicle maintenance regulations!

5. Replacing spark plugs and high voltage wires

Spark plugs in a car are the main parts for igniting the fuel mixture. With faulty spark plugs, the spark is incorrectly supplied to ignite the gasoline mixture. Defective spark plugs often have a lack of spark or an incorrect spark interval, which affects engine malfunction. If the spark plugs do not work properly during acceleration, especially from a standstill, you may feel small jolts.

What are the reasons for the failure of spark plugs: Most spark plugs in vehicles prior to 1996 need to be replaced every 25,000-30,000 kilometers... In newer cars, spark plugs last over 150,000 km. However, these spark plug replacement times can be reduced due to various factors related to fuel quality and driving style.

What needs to be done: If your spark plugs have not changed for a long time, or you feel dips associated with ignition in the engine, then you must immediately replace them with new ones without delay. Do not try to save money on untimely replacement of spark plugs, as the cost of spark plugs is not very expensive, as is the work of replacing them. Replacing old spark plugs will improve engine performance and reduce vehicle fuel consumption. Replacing spark plugs yourself is easy enough. Mostly they are easily accessible under the hood of the car. You need a regular spark plug wrench to remove the spark plugs from the engine. It is also advisable to monitor the condition of high-voltage wires, since over time they can become unusable and allow electricity to pass, which is transmitted to the spark plugs, which will reduce the strength of the spark. Remember that regular replacement of spark plugs, in accordance with the maintenance schedule of your car, keeps your exhaust catalyst from damage, and also improves engine performance!

Probably, many motorists are faced with the fact that on the Chevrolet Captiva the "Check Engine" icon lights up, but no visible and obvious engine malfunctions have been identified. What is the reason for this malfunction? In this article, we will consider all possible options, as well as methods of elimination and solution of the problem.

The video will tell you how to troubleshoot the engine icon on the Captiva dashboard

Possible reasons for the "engine" icon on the dashboard

Many car enthusiasts and Chevrolet Captiva owners have heard that "Check Engine" can appear on the panel for no reason. There can be many reasons. At the same time, the strangest thing is the fact that the motor does not show signs of malfunction: there is no jerking, loss of power and other problems.

So, where can the malfunction be located, and how can it be diagnosed. In any case, the first place where you need to climb is the electronic control unit, this is where you should look for a malfunction. Since the "Check" icon indicates a malfunction in the motor, the control unit knows exactly where to look for it. If you connect to the ECU, you can see the error that caused the alarm, and then deal with the problem.

But, since it is not always possible to connect to the engine control unit, consider where the malfunction may be hiding:

  • Error in the ECU or problems in the software.
  • Ignition system: spark plugs, wires, injector, ignition coil.
  • Fuel system: bad gasoline, injectors, fuel pump.
  • Lambda probe and catalyst.
  • Mass air flow sensor.

Troubleshooting methods

So, the main reasons for the appearance of the "Check Engine" icon on the dashboard have been identified, and it is necessary to proceed to the methods of troubleshooting. Of course, not all motorists know the design features of the Chevrolet Captiva, so many malfunctions and solutions will become an overwhelming task. In this case, in order not to risk it, it is worth contacting a car service. Well, for those who are already experienced this material will be very useful. So, let's go directly to solving the problem.

ECU and related faults

It often happens that the appearance of the "CHECK" icon is associated with a malfunction in the "brains" of the car. There are many reasons for this effect, but the main thing is a malfunction in the software and the accumulation of errors.

The method of elimination is "zeroing" or resetting the settings to the factory settings. Of course, if this does not help, you need to change the software to a new one. For ECUs of the Captiva class, there are custom firmwares, in which many software "bugs" are fixed. To perform the action, you need a special K-line cable, a tablet, software and a little knowledge of automotive electrics.

Time to change the oil

Another reason for the appearance of "Check Engine" on the tidy is a signal that it is time to change oil or its insufficient amount in the system. So, the motorist must check the condition of the lubricating fluid, as well as carry out routine engine maintenance.

Spark plugs and high voltage wires

Also, the reason for the appearance of the "Check Engine" icon may be a malfunction in the ignition system, namely, a breakdown in one of the spark plugs or BB wires. In this case, the engine can operate normally and not show any visible faults. So, to search for a malfunction, you need to ring the wires and check the performance of the candles. Replace damaged components if necessary.

Injector and ignition coil

An injector or ignition coil that malfunctions can also cause a "Check Engine" to appear. In this case, you need to diagnose the elements, as well as repair or replace damaged elements.

Bad gasoline

The most common reason for the “CHECK” badge on the dashboard is bad or stagnant gasoline. At the same time, it is quite difficult and practically impossible to diagnose it. Therefore, as practice shows, motorists completely drain the fuel from the tank, and also "bleed" the residues from the system. Filling with new fuel, it is necessary to let the car run, and then turn it off. After a while, start and see if the signaling device appears on the panel. If it disappeared, then the cause of the malfunction has been eliminated, if not, then it is hidden in another place.

Fuel pump

Often, a malfunction of the fuel pump becomes the reason for the appearance of "Check Engine" on the panel. So, insufficient pressure in the fuel line can serve as a signal of a malfunction. In fact, this problem should be shown in errors of the electronic engine control unit, but as practice shows, not always. Therefore, it is worth diagnosing the fuel pump and it is possible to replace the repair kit, since the filter mesh on it may be clogged.

Nozzles

Clogged injectors can also send a signal to the ECU, which in turn will turn on the "Check Engine". In this case, the malfunction can be eliminated by cleaning the elements. This should be done on a special stand, but if it is absent, the operation can be done at home.

Lambda probe and catalyst

A defective oxygen sensor or catalyst can also cause a malfunction. In this case, it is worth carrying out diagnostic work and, if necessary, replacing damaged elements. So, a slight increase in fuel consumption may become an indirect additional sign.

DMVR

A faulty state of the MAF sensor causes a "Check Engine" to appear on the dashboard. This element is diagnosed quite simply using a tester, and the elimination of the cause is replacement. In this case, it is necessary to reset all errors after replacement in the ECU.

Additional diagnostics

If gas equipment is installed on the car, then additional diagnostics will be required, since in any case, it is connected to the electronic control unit. In this case, the cause of the malfunction may be a drop in pressure in the fuel line or a malfunction of the reducer.

Output

It is quite easy to determine the reasons for the appearance of the "Check Engine" icon on the Chevrolet Captiva dashboard, because the main problems are: ECU, fuel system and bad gasoline. If the motorist is unable to determine and fix the problem on his own, then it is recommended to contact a car service. Of course, you will need to spend a certain amount of money, but the auto repairman will do everything quickly and efficiently. It should be warned that any diagnostics of this malfunction begins with checking the computer, and if the motorist does not understand this process, it is worth contacting professionals so as not to disrupt the car's operation.
