"New Cruiser Prado ..." How much sense in this short phrase for the modern "masters of life" who have passed through the 90s? And for a younger (and therefore more energetic) generation, this SUV is associated with a dashing pastime. Even less criminal than some.
And the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 2018 did not deviate from its glorious roots, did not suddenly become more "crossover" and did not replace the already quite classic frame structure with a more modern monocoque body. Frame only, hardcore only!
But in general, the new Land Cruiser Prado is a restyling. Not the most modest, as some may do, but definitely does not smell of a new generation here: new head optics, new hood and bumpers, new taillights - this is what distinguishes the usual "light" restyling from a deeper one. In this case, new front fenders and a tailgate revised to match the overall design will be added to the list. In general, we can say that this SUV has become stylistically closer to the flagship of the line in the face of the 200th.
The overall dimensions of the updated Prado also distinguished themselves by stylistic changes: plus 60 mm to 4840, while maintaining other parameters and wheelbase. As a result, the same not small turning circle, equal to 5.8 meters. But the revised bumpers allowed to change the front and rear corners, including the ramp: 31, 25 and 22 cm, respectively. Nice, experts will appreciate it. They will also appreciate the impressive 215 mm minimum ground clearance. Japanese engineers, among other things, boasted that the revised look has seriously increased the off-road performance of the car: vents, headlights and other vulnerable elements are located so as to minimize the risk of damage when overcoming fords or on difficult terrain.
Following the exterior, the interior has also pulled itself up: a steering wheel from the flagship LC200, a revised instrument and center panel, a large 8-inch multimedia touchscreen display and (where can we go without it?) More expensive finishing materials. And, perhaps, it is the update of the dashboard that the future and current owners of Prado will be most delighted with: a pair of large customary arrow pointers, a pair of small ones, and between them there is a 4.2-inch color screen, which displays useful data on the car, navigation information, various warning messages and more. In short, everything seems to be the same - but differently and better.
The same applies to the design of the central tunnel: from now on, it can boast of little other than the traditional gearshift selector and handbrake, because most of the buttons "moved" higher, to the central panel.
The functionality of the Prado all-round view system is now completely unified with that installed on the Toyota Land Cruiser 200, and supports such functions as a "transparent hood", inclinometer, trajectory lines, etc. The SUV also received a full package of Toyota Safety Sense active safety systems. According to the company, the updated Land Cruiser Prado received the most extensive winter package in the entire model range - it includes heated side mirrors, front and rear seats, windshield, steering wheel, windscreen washer nozzles, an additional electric interior heater and an engine preheater for turbo diesel versions. By the way, regardless of the number of seats (5 or 7), the Land Cruiser Prado now has 3-zone climate control. In expensive trim levels, the front seats are equipped with intensity-adjustable ventilation. Also, the car flaunts the LED illumination of the landing zone in the car and the function of lowering the mirrors when reversing.
What equipment and power units? Restyling rarely allows itself to crawl under the hood - and this case was no exception: data on innovations are simply not presented. But the control electronics were reworked: Sport S / Sport S + were added to the previous Eco / Normal / Sport driving modes, which accordingly change the steering habits, gearbox modes and the stiffness of the shock absorbers. The main differences between the new Prado and the old one are:
- a different radiator grill, which has more massive vertical slats. Moreover, the shape itself has changed and became more trapezoidal;
- chopped hood, one of the most obvious differences between the new items. In the center there is a strip in the form of a recess, exactly the same hood we could observe on the current version of the Land Cruiser 200.
- the bumpers were only affected by a slight cosmetic redesign. The front bumper received rectangular fog lights instead of round ones;

Along with the exterior, the interior design has also changed. The first thing worth noting is the absence of the annoying wood-like plastic. Now, in its place, dark plastic flaunts, which completely changes the perception of the car. Along with this, Prado received:

- new multifunction steering wheel with black inserts;

The most powerful petrol aspirated V6 with a volume of 4 liters was "strangled" a little especially for the Russian market. The manufacturer does not hide that this was done at the request of the buyers themselves, who do not want to overpay the gigantic transport tax. The power unit develops a torque of 381 Nm and is the most voracious among the SUV's engine range. Moreover, it consumes only AI-95 gasoline.

What has changed in the 2018 Toyota Prado
First of all, the changes are visual. The car has become similar to its older brother Land Cruiser 200, and in this regard, it will look more and more like it. Many fans of the model believe that the updated Prado will not be as off-road as before. Many believe that the new body is taken as the basis, however, this is a deep delusion and you should not worry, because this is a restyling, although the company calls the Toyota Prado a new model. The frame and all off-road capabilities are preserved, plus new useful options have appeared:
- CRAWL CONTROL - Off-road driving assistance controls the braking and acceleration processes
- MTS-AUTO - when this mode is connected, the car will "crawl" out of the most difficult situations by itself.
Exterior and appearance
As we noted above, the new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (2018) has acquired new features. An updated radiator grill is located at the front, making the car appear more massive.
