I constantly visit this forum, more as a reader. But then there was a reason to write.
I thought for a long time in which section to create a theme. I decided that after all in the reports, since although there is a comparison with another car, there are more questions about the technical features of Forestera as such, and not why it is worse or better than others.
We rode tonight with a friend in nature (Moscow region - about 40 km from the Moscow Ring Road) - snow-covered fields, snow and ice slides - in short, everything you need to find out whose four-wheel drive is cooler 🙂
So what's available:
1) I have a Forester 2.0 manual transmission + lowering 2007
2) a friend has an Allroad 2.7T manual transmission + ponizhayka (I don't remember the year, the previous model).
In the fields (there is snow of about 15-20 cm, rather dense, with an ice crust above and below), both cars behave similarly, pass normally everywhere, without a hint of getting stuck, rowing with all four (in short, almost like on asphalt).
On snowy hills - here Audi is already breaking out into the lead. Either due to the greater weight (and, accordingly, greater inertia) - the slides pass better, or due to the same weight, the snow crushes better and digs to a harder layer, or due to a more powerful and high-torque engine. But in short there was a couple of slides, which Audi, with difficulty, but overcame, and no matter how hard I tried, I could not. Moreover, one of them was with a winding rise of 25-30 degrees, which ended with a 40-45 degree final segment of 5 meters (i.e. the stock of a straight line for acceleration in front of it was very small). Here I had no chance at all. If I went through the entire ascent normally, then this last segment was successful no more than half. And Audi, albeit with great difficulty, though not always the first time, but climbed. Clarification about the gasket - we periodically got into each other's cars (everything was done the same way) and the friend also got behind the wheel of my Forestera - several attempts - the result was zero. And yet, in Audi you sit and feel that all the wheels are rowing (I don’t know how chtoli cerebellum), but in Forestere there is no such feeling.
Now, from sensations to observations - with another unsuccessful attempt, sliding back on the Forestere - I decided to turn around on a snowy slope and got stuck. I sit - gas - I stand still, and my friend says that only my rear wheels are spinning (only now I understand that this is theoretically impossible). I turn on the back and leave.
It is even more interesting further. Finally we decided to go for a ride on an ice slide (25-35 degrees, with hills). On it children ride on ice floes during the day. Both cars pass here and there normally. Forester behaves even better if, when climbing in the middle, stop and then move off and reach the end (all four row, no hesitation (good tires - Haka 5th).
And then we decided to find a place on these hills where we can hang the diagonal. I think that everything is cool for me - two diffs with self-locking, and here I will make an imitation of Audible locks. Found ... ... And what was my disappointment !!! I drive up to the place (one wheel hangs, the other has a very weak hook diagonally, a slight backward slope), I stop. I turn on the first one, release the clutch - the car spins with two wheels and stands still, I add gas - the result is the same !!! Where is the vaunted self-locking rear diff ... I didn't turn it around very much and for a long time - it's still a pity for the car, I turn on the back one and leave. Audi - everything is the same, but with strong gas, the blocking is visible and the car receives a momentary moment on the wheels that are on the ground, then this moment disappears, but it is enough to jump out of this place. Several approaches - the same results. Then we think maybe Forester's backside will be better to go up from these holes. But no backwards the same thing.
And then I had a few questions to the Lovers of off-road pokatushek, Connoisseurs of all-wheel drive and of course to Service (Pleiades). And I realized that you can find all of them at once only on this forum!
1) Could the car stand and row with only 2 rear wheels?
2) Why the rear diff was not blocked. when hanging diagonally?
3) Maybe my Forya has something wrong (sort of like analyzing this forum, I thought that I have the most off-road option from the Subar - by the presence of a ponder, self-locking 2 diffs and the most honest all-wheel drive)?
4) If, after all, this is a marriage of my sample, then what should I do about it? Considering that the car is under warranty and has recently passed MOT 30,000 at U-Service?
