Of course, there were thoughts to buy 3.0 - but I don't want to pay tax, not that I'm very greedy, but I don't drive much and there is much more to spend this money, I considered diesel 3.0 - very expensive in good condition, but 2.0 usually too empty - the interior is a rag, condo, and the price tag is high. After the purchase, I put a monitor with navigation, DVD, Internet and a rear-view camera in its regular place, equipment - 31,000 rubles and installation - 8,000, plus the doors were professionally noisy, it became much better - inside is quieter, and outside the sound when closing is pleasant. The car pleases, I'm not going to sell yet.

1. The sound of the engine. The inline six from BMW is a business card, rustles, without screaming at the top, moderately elastic, pulls well, at least not worse than 2.0 TSI from Tiguan. Quieter than Tigi. The consumption is the same, I have an average of 11.7 l / 100 km, but I live in a small town, with practically no traffic jams. During the period of ownership, I added about 1 liter of oil, as reported by the electronic dipstick, they write on the forums about a stronger oil consumption, I still like this, I think a little, if I eat 2 liters for 15 tons, I can stand it.

Buying a car abroad is another story, I will tell you the main milestones: Cars hardly ever drive from Italy, this is explained by the fact that there are no distillation numbers in Italy, and for a long time this is the specificity of unhurried Italians. For a common man in the street, ferrymen explain the impossibility of driving from Italy by the fact that there are narrow streets, broken cars and Italians do not undergo regular maintenance. Yes, there is part of the truth in this, so I picked up a car not from Rome and Milan, where the streets are really narrow, but from the Emilia-Romagna region, where the roads are far from narrow. I only looked at dealers with a service book, pushed through the base of the insurance company, fortunately, in many Italian insurance, visa, transportation companies, I mostly encountered Russians, unfortunately I do not know Italian). Took a choice of 2 months from the moment of viewing on mobil.it to the arrival of 2.5 months. Cars in Italy are 10% cheaper than in Germany, the distance to Russia is the same. As a result, they found a car, asked to send a photo of good resolution and a vin code, struck it on the vin.su website, looked at the decoding of the equipment and the date of production (very important for customs). I liked the car, requested a contract, paid money through the bank (opened a bank account and the payment was made on the invoice sent from the Italians), paid a customs duty of 235,000 rubles for a 2 liter engine. I went to the customs office for the original customs receipt, and took it by plane in Italy (tourism visa 200 euros). The car was bought spontaneously. I got into an accident on December 18 in my Forester 2.5XT (by the way, in which he showed himself very worthily, but that's another story) and, since the culprit was a very high-ranking official, the inspectors themselves helped with all the formalities the next day, insurance was full, I decided to buy the car immediately, since the forika repair was postponed until January, etc. I was considering the option of buying something for a year, because I wanted to buy a new Forester, but they started selling it only in the spring and I still had to wait - the car had to be ordered. On December 20, only the X3 turned out to be out of more or less "nimble" crossovers. This configuration was given a New Year's discount of more than 6 thousand euros! It was a sin not to buy! I bought it for a year - I still go!

In short - honor and praise to German engineers. X-Drive behaves just fine. Before that, I had a 2001 RAV4, an Octavia 2002, a Forester XT 2005, an Impreza WRX 2006.

In 2002, he studied with Moiseenko-Grakhov at the Extreme Driving School (very useful for absolutely everyone! They taught not to drive in extreme ways, and not to get into such situations or get out of them correctly !!!), so I did not pay attention to directional stability systems - on my Subars-lighters they simply were not. At first I turned it off on X3, but I tried it and I don't turn it off anymore. I have driven VOLVO and RAV in recent years - this system works more efficiently and more predictably on X3. The box adjusts itself to the riding style. If I put my friend behind the wheel, the behavior becomes different, it works well.

In general, almost the entire time of ownership of Hzshka, every time I got behind the wheel, there was a feeling of delight. Excellent handling, not every sedan can enter a turn without the slightest roll like this car. The asceticism of the interior was smoothed out by the technical equipment of this car, namely by the presence of various sensors and systems that were not on the previous car. BMW's all-wheel drive and ground clearance showed themselves in the winter of 2010-2011, taking into account the fact that I never changed the tires, and drove on a regular all-season, I was simply amazed at the confident behavior of an all-wheel drive car in deep snow and even on ice (without fairy tales, of course , the laws of physics have not been canceled, but the cars on the ice have never been skidded. The front one was used to unfold on thorns only in this way). Not harboring illusions, he stormed deep mud, snowdrifts - did not disappoint even once! Soundproofing makes me happy every time I change my father-in-law from the Skoda Octavia A5 into my car and my wife with burning eyes says: "No, well, you feel how much quieter it is in ours, and this is diesel!"

It was very pleasant to confirm my expectations that diesel engine power and efficiency at the same time - very cool, I began to go to work by car, I don't have to refuel twice a week in Moscow traffic jams. I go to the very tin in traffic jams in the morning and in the evening, the consumption is 11 liters per 100 km. Over a cigarette, some diesel experts in the parking lot said: “Yes, without Webasto, it will stand with you in winter until spring for fun. The diesel will freeze in the tubes and you will rest. Well, there is, of course, a way out - buy, they say, liquidate the moth, pour it at every refueling and it might help, otherwise it won't ... ”I was shocked, worried, well, in the end it even became interesting. I didn’t do anything, I only refueled on Lukoil, sometimes Rosneft and Bipi. The temperature dropped to -28, it seems, outside the city or something like that, started up with half a turn. A car on the track is a beast: at a speed of 160-170 km / h you press the gas, it confidently, very cheerfully picks up further - CLASS !!! Well, most of all, I repeat again, sorry, I was struck by the handling. Let me remind you, by the way, this car has 200mm ground clearance - probably for this they love BMW so much - I appreciated it ...)) Well, I really appreciate the design, at first I doubted - HZ, the stereotype of a woman's car, but now I have no doubt - very much! ))

I must say right away that I was very pleased with this machine, the convenience and spaciousness in the cabin for a 4-meter machine are simply gorgeous. In general, there was enough dynamics, though there was nothing at the bottom and you need to twist vigorously for dynamics. My daughter (6 years old) is still nostalgic for her - “I’ll grow up and buy myself a measure.” If I had money and my wife would drive me, I would probably leave it as a second person.

But I wanted something more, more powerful, higher, passable, but not a frame jeep and not very long. In short, I looked at SUVs for the city. In the process of choosing, I still drew a desire to ride on a diesel engine and automatic transmission.

I watched Suzuki CX-4 (and Sidichi), Grant Vitar, Seat Altea Fritrack, Forester, X-Trail (and Koleos), Outlander (and Citroen C-Cross), Tigun, and Volvo XC-7 , and a jeep compass, Skoda EPTI, and Mazda CX-7 and something else. The leaders were at first Suzuki CX-4, but disappeared due to the smallness - in general, to change the hell in comparison with Meriva. Then the Forester, looked back at him to the end, but the 4-speed automatic transmission seems archaic today. By the way, I first looked at the mechanics, but after a ride on the machine - I reoriented myself to the automatic transmission - with a margin of power, comfortable driving relocated the excitement from the dynamics - the years take their toll. Then the x-trail, but something behind it seemed cramped. If not for the BMW X3, I probably would have taken it in the end.

I read reviews about the BMW X3, decided to write my own: an excellent car, does not break down, starts in any frost, there is nothing to compare in speed and steering, before that there were cars Audi B4 Qutro, Audi 100 Qutro, Mitsubishi Padjero 2, Mitsubishi L200 , BMW 525i, Ford Fusion, Nissan Qashkai, not to mention different Zhiguli and Volga.

Before buying a BMW X3, I drove a test drive on a Mercedes GLK, then on a BMW X3, compared to Merin, it is much more dynamic and sharper in handling. Many people write that BMW has a rigid suspension, in which case I advise you to buy a Mercedes GLK or sit at home on a soft sofa.

Despite the low mileage, I decided to leave my subjective review about the X3 2d LE car. Because I think that many people are in a position like me. Namely, the problem of choice.

The B MW X3 doesn't feel like a small or lightweight car. In fact, it is not particularly inferior in its "linear" dimensions to its older brother - the X5 in the back of the E53, on which I once had a chance to travel a lot. True, the image of the "X-Dry" differs from the "X-fifth" for the better: it is not so "gangster", and even in a silver color scheme and with a beige interior - and even more so.

Needless to say that the ergonomics of the driver's workplace has been "licked" to a reference level? .. It could not have been otherwise - after all, the premium segment. As Ostap Bender said, "Europe, class A". From the very first minutes you pay attention to the "male" efforts on the governing bodies. The power steering is perfectly tuned - the steering wheel is not empty, and the driver feels involved in the process of driving a powerful and serious car.

BMW X3 engine power

I first rode this particular X in his early years - five years ago, in 2011. During this time, the sensations have not changed - everything is still quiet and comfortable in it, and any stroking of the floor gas pedal awakens a herd of three hundred horses under the hood. Angrily roaring with an in-line "six", "X" famously breaks down from traffic lights, demonstrating to neighbors downstream a solid reserve of power, which is always felt by the driver, regardless of the chosen driving style. I would like to separately note the very soft operation of the traditional six-speed automatic - it goes through gears very quickly, but the moments of switching are completely imperceptible.

"Alpine skiing" sorties showed that the "X-third" does not give up even in deep snow - it stubbornly crawled forward under the crunching of transmission parts, controlled by a cunning "X-drive". At the same time, the assistant was tested in the descent from the mountain - at first it was scary to slide down a steep hill under the guidance of an invisible assistant, but soon the fear of "artificial intelligence" passed.

It is interesting that this "X-three" Titansilber color does not make a special impression on those around it, although it is definitely respected on the road. It's just that the X3 has always remained in the shadow of the X5 model, not particularly inferior to it in terms of its consumer qualities.

Most of all, in this model, its "authenticity" captivates - the 83rd body was made according to the templates, and the units were used classic - no, and the durability of the chassis in practice pleasantly surprised. In a word, with the conversion of the BMW brand slogan "Freude am Fahren" (with pleasure at the wheel), this "Boomer" is in complete order, and this is clearly proved by the practice of its operation.

Atypical instance

How did this crossover prove to be in five years of work? Let's start with the background. The car came across quite amusing - "gray", at an interesting price and "abandoned". What does it mean? First, a certain gentleman from the UAE ordered a BMW X3 3.0i with a lot of additional options. And then something went wrong, and the factory, when equipping the car, clearly decided to get rid of what else could be abandoned. That is why this particular specimen has an absolutely atypical configuration. Judge for yourself: a panoramic roof with a huge sunroof, luxurious xenon light and LED optics, an external M-package, beige leather ... but at the same time - air conditioning (!) Instead of climate control and mechanical seat adjustment. Taking into account the Arabic "orientation", you can forgive the lack of heated seats and the characteristic ligature on the side mirror, but the black handles on the beige pillows look a little funny. Well, it happens.

In general, instead of the Emirates, this silver X3 with the same atypical "refuseniks" ended up in Ukraine in 2011. Judging by the markings of the parts, in the last months of the conveyor life, cars with the E83 index were assembled "from what was in the warehouse" - for example, our car has a plastic mud protection of the power unit from the diesel version. However, this does not affect the speed. And the quality, it seems, too - the battery released back in 2010 is still more alive than all living things.


And the car itself feels quite "fresh". Of course, the mileage is not fantastic - 50,000 km, but X-Drive is not the only car in the family and is used mainly from October to May. Therefore, the list of repairs by the standards of many "boomers" is minimal. So what was breaking in it?

Not so much

In addition to scheduled maintenance, it took a little to keep the X in good condition. Once one of the parktronic sensors failed (a new one was found without any problems in the endless expanses of eBay), and last year it was necessary to eliminate the leakage of the wiper arm, due to which rainwater fell on the cabin filter.


Before looking for an original seal and removing the "frill", we decided to "shake things up" with an experimental version - a sealant and an additional washer. And it helped! Moreover, this is where the list of forced repairs ends, and further manipulations can be attributed to voluntary and preventive measures.


A mesh was installed in the bumper - the ventilation holes visually made the radiators somehow too defenseless.


Non-studded Continental proved to be much more tenacious of the summer Dunlop model SP Sport 01, which recently began to crumble in pieces. Another of the "special stages" can be recalled a set of 17-inch "replica" for winter tires.


Other useful acquisitions include a ski rack (it is convenient to control skis on the roof through the "panorama"!), A navigation system in the upper part of the panel and a GSM alarm. The "Signalka" turned out to be epic - not only did it incorrectly "spam" SMS messages and spend money "as if not in itself", but in the end it also "short-circuited" somewhere in the rear seat area. Perhaps it was not the reel, but the installers, but out of harm's way, the expensive and buggy device was dismantled.

The rest is nothing special: the "boomer" has been running regularly for the sixth year already, without pestering the owner with refusals. However, quite recently, a massive "sacrifice of crickets" was made in the door panels, for which the upholstery was removed and carefully glued, along the way replacing some of the fastening clips. And I also had to weld the resonator of the exhaust system, on which a small crack formed.

By the way, the engine without a dipstick turned out to be unusual in operation, but so far the mighty N52B30 has not been noticed in its tendency to oil appetite. And the urban consumption of gasoline of 14-16 liters, taking into account the output power and dynamic qualities of the "boomer", raises no particular criticism.

However, it would be unfair to talk about the experience of operating alone, having at the side of the owner who has been familiar with the car not for five hours, but for five years. Therefore, now is the time to give the floor to the lucky owner of X3, Innocent, to get information, as they say, first-hand.

From the owner

Since 2005, our family has been considering only four-wheel drive vehicles, moreover, crossovers - taking into account our roads, this is convenient and practical. Of course, after the two-liter Outlander on the mechanics, the three-liter BMW with 272 "horses" under the hood immediately impressed with the dynamics, which is not hampered by a very agile six-speed automatic. By the way, Mazda CX-7, which has also been present in our garage fleet all these years, does not feel as energetic as the Boomer. And, of course, the thoroughbred roar of an in-line "six" cannot be compared with the ordinary sound of a 2.3-liter Japanese turbo engine.

Even despite the lack of unnecessary options like electric seat adjustments, this car immediately made me understand why BMW is so respected all over the world. All this is certainly good, but it has long been no secret - a used BMW is always a lot of repairs, breakdowns, etc. Is this the case with this car? Not really. E83 body is really one of the most reliable, and if something breaks, it costs reasonable money. In more detail, problematic engines have never been installed in the car - a good all-wheel drive, good suspension and no too complex mechanisms.


As for the engine, it is difficult to choose a bad one in this case. All of them are good enough and have their own characteristics. There are lines of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, but they are not ideologically suited for BMW. After all, the Bavarian brand is a classic six-cylinder engine with its own character. And more specifically, these are three-liter units, both gasoline and diesel. Although the X3 diesel engine gives a little shiver to the body, but this is exactly the engine in which this model will remain a real BMW and retain the ideology of a practical car. Slightly more than two hundred forces on two turbines give excellent dynamics.

If you think that this is not enough, then it is worth remembering that this is a diesel engine and there are 500 Newtons per meter. The dynamics with this unit is exactly what you expect from this machine. No more, no less. The motor, both this one and the gasoline one, is quite reliable, the only thing they are really afraid of is low-quality fuel and overheating. The motor is long and you need to be careful when choosing a car that you have been actively driving. After all, if you overheat it, the valve cover leads.

The transmission can be either manual or automatic. Although manual ones are good for their clarity and reliability, in a big city this choice is not relevant. Yes, and in the secondary market, such options come across extremely rarely. As for the BMW X3 e83, it is resourceful, it works smoothly and without complaints about excessive sharpness, or vice versa, thoughtfulness.


But there is also something to be careful with, this is the dispensing unit. Here it is not very reliable, considering also the fact that it is impossible to disable it and it always works. All-wheel drive algorithms are really pleasing. There are no problems either in the sand or in the snow. But you need to remember BMW - this is not a tough off-road vehicle and you should not drive into really significant mud. Due to the fact that this X3 is built on the basis of a triplet in the E46 body, it partially absorbed its features. The salon is very similar to what we can see in the top three. Similar buttons, almost the same central panel, except that the multimedia system is significantly different. Due to the larger size of the car itself, the center panel is also larger. Due to this, the buttons are dispersed significantly at a greater distance from each other, this is a little disorienting. But after a couple of hours behind the wheel, everything falls into place. You almost instantly get used to BMW ergonomics. The location of absolutely everything seems as convenient as possible, as if the salon was made right for you. At night, the car pleases with a pleasant red illumination, it is surprisingly completely unobtrusive and does not irritate even after several hours of driving on the highway.


Of the minuses of the interior of the BMW X3 e83, it is worth noting the rather rough skin and the absence of a separate climate for any money. This is probably one of the biggest drawbacks. After all, the car has almost everything: panorama, electric seat adjustment, etc. but there is no separate climate ... Also, there is no electric adjustment of the position of the steering wheel, but this is no longer so important. But the steering wheel itself has about perfect ergonomics, hands fall as it should and does not tire on long trips. Also note that the plastic is not of good quality. It is solid, thin, although it has a pleasant texture, but a sense of simplicity is created. Visually, there is a little lack of wood inserts on the center panel. Such a design move turned out to be completely out of place. After all, there are nice inserts in the door handles, but not in the center. Although the model was originally built on a fairly short base, there is enough space in the car not only in the front, but also in the back. The back row is really good. There is enough space for absolutely everyone. The wide rear armrest is at the correct height and is reasonably ergonomic. You won't have to rub your elbows with the next passenger. The rear cupholders have a strange design, putting a glass there, it is quite difficult to get it. It feels like the engineers, having made a slightly stiffer suspension, additionally took care of even such trifles. And there are many such little things, from the very beginning they are not noticeable, but as soon as you start using the car, you find a lot of moments that are very well thought out, and this cannot but give pleasure.

The trunk of a BMW IKS3, half a cubic meter in size, cannot but rejoice. To be honest, no one expects from the outside that there is so much space. In this regard, the car certainly exceeds expectations. Folding the seats down, you get almost one and a half cubic meters of loading space. Anything can be transported. Within reason, of course. But not without drawbacks. Of these, it is worth noting that the wide bumper does not make it possible to reach something near the seat. As for the rest, the trunk is good, it has several nice organizers for small things, a net on the left side and nice finishing materials.

If you have long wanted a BMW, do not want to spend hundreds of thousands on maintenance, drive in any weather and you really need practicality with pleasant dynamics - this is your choice.

There is no such oil consumption on diesel engines, only about 25% of cars with a diesel engine. If we take, for example, a 2-liter M47, then it has a fairly large crankcase volume, into which 5.5 liters of oil must be poured.

Despite the fact that the on-board computer notifies every 30,000 km that it is time to go to the service and do a technical inspection, that is, it turns out that the oil changes at intervals of 20-25 thousand km, in our realities it is not necessary to listen to the on-board computer because there is no certainty about the quality of oil and fuel. Cars manufactured before restyling must be filled with diesel that meets the Euro-3 standard, and after-styling cars must be filled only with diesel fuel that meets the Euro-4 standard. All engines installed on the X3 have a timing chain that does not require attention. There are cases that the gas distribution system of gasoline engines requires minor repairs after 150,000 km. In most cases, it is VANOS (phase control system) that can go bad.

There may be several options here: if the candles are still normal and everything is in order with the ignition, and the engine is running up, then the solenoid valve from the VANOS system is to blame. Or the matter may be in the hydraulic cylinders, in which the sealing rings are hardened or worn out. Candles, as a rule, last about 40,000 km, if you take the original for 18 euros, they have platinum electrodes. A new solenoid valve will cost 100 euros, but a set of rings will cost 600 euros.

More than once there have been cases that after 150,000 km. or after about 5 years of operation, the membrane at the crankcase ventilation valve has dried out, replace such a valve - spend 100 euros. It is also not very impressive that carbon deposits form on the bottom of the piston after a while, which leads to unstable engine operation. And there is a risk that there will be overheat which is highly unacceptable for a cylinder head that is made of aluminum. Overheating can also be caused by: a failed pump, which costs 180 euros, radiator honeycombs clogged with dirt, thermostat guides that have broken off because they are made of plastic, their replacement will cost 70 euros.

There are cases that a characteristic chirping appears in the block for changing the length of the DISA intake manifold after about 150 thousand km. This means that it is necessary to make repairs in this block, which will cost 200 euros, and it must be done faster, because if the mechanism crumbles, then its small parts can easily get into the engine. Also, gasoline modifications may fail, which costs 200 euros, an electronic throttle control unit and an air flow meter, the replacement of which will cost 500 euros.

The result is a lot of hassle with gasoline engines. Therefore, it makes sense to take a closer look at diesel trim levels, which are more reliable, and even more economical than gasoline versions.

In normal driving with moderate "annealing" the turbocharger will last for a long time - about 250,000 km. You should also fill in a high-quality diesel engine, then the nozzles will also last at least 250 thousand km.

M-series motors with a cast-iron cylinder block have their own characteristics: maybe after 180 thousand km. will appear the smell of burned rubber, this means that it is time to change the crankshaft pulley torsional vibration damper, which will cost 400 euros. In general, so that disaster does not suddenly happen on the road, it is better in advance after about 120,000 km. change the pulley.

On 3-liter M57 diesel engines, about 10% of such modifications, cracks may appear on the exhaust manifold after about 150 thousand km. Replacing this collector will cost 450 euros. But especially carefully need to check the intake manifold, especially on cars older than 2006, which use a Euro-3 diesel engine. After 200,000 km, traces of oil may appear on the bodies of the flaps of the vortex channels, which means that the flap on which the axle breaks off falls directly into the cylinder - an urgent need to go to the service and correct the situation.

But on diesel engines running on diesel fuel of Euro-4 standard, the degree of recirculation in the EGR system is higher, so a heat exchanger is used here. True, after 160-200 thousand km, it can burn out from the inside, after which the antifreeze will come out through the exhaust system. Replacing this heat exchanger will cost € 500. But this is nonsense compared to the problems that can arise with recirculation valve, which is clogged with deposits every year. A new one costs 200 euros. This is due to Russian fuel and driving in traffic jams. Therefore, so that there are fewer problems, the owners of such cars turn off this valve or get rid of it, of course the ecology suffers from this, but the owner of the BMW X3 does not expect a possible danger with a heat exchanger.

You should also change glow plugs worth 15 euros on each diesel engine purely for prophylaxis after 4-5 years of service. After all, if at least one candle fails, then there is a risk that the electronic control unit will have to be changed for 450 euros.

BMW X3 transmission

The most reliable box in the BMW X3 is considered a mechanic; it is installed on cars with gasoline and diesel engines.
