Notes:

Check the condition of the timing belt (timing) or replace parts of the corresponding mechanism in accordance with. It must be borne in mind that a failure of the timing belt (breakage or shearing of teeth) can lead to the valves hitting the pistons due to the mismatch of the angles of rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts and, as a result, to expensive engine repairs.

1. Remove the air filter as described.

2. If there is an air conditioner on the car, disconnect the wiring block from the refrigerant pressure sensor (located next to the power steering pump pulley).

3. Remove the alternator and power steering pump belt as described.

4. Using a 12 mm spanner wrench, loosen the tightening one by one and remove the three bolts securing the power steering pump pulley. At the same time, keep the pulley from turning with another 12 mm box wrench or a slotted screwdriver inserted between the pulley hub and the bolt head.

5. Pressing the power unit to the left side of the car, remove the pulley from the hub.

6. Remove the coolant supply hose to the throttle assembly from the two holders of the upper front timing cover.

7. Using a 10 mm head, unscrew the four bolts securing the upper front timing cover and remove it.

8. Engage the gearbox in fifth gear and hang the right front wheel. Turning the wheel clockwise, turn the crankshaft and check the condition of the timing belt.

Note:

The surface of the toothed part of the belt should not have folds, cracks, undercuts of teeth and peeling of fabric from rubber. The underside of the belt should be free of wear, exposing the cords, and signs of burning.
There should be no delamination or loosening on the end surfaces of the belt. If damaged, the belt must be replaced. The belt must also be replaced if traces of oil are found on it (before replacing the belt, the cause of its oiling should be eliminated) or when replacing a failed tensioner and belt support roller, coolant pump.

9. With normal belt tension, the movable pointer 1 of the roller should coincide with the fixed pointer 2 on the tensioner bracket.

Note:

If the movable pointer is offset from the stationary one:

  • counterclockwise - belt tension is insufficient;
  • clockwise - the belt will be tightened.

Timing belt tensioner:

1 - fixed pointer;

2 - bracket;

3 - eccentric roller;

4 - movable pointer.

10. If the pointers do not match, adjust the belt tension (see below) or replace the belt with a new one.

Replacing the timing belt

Note:

Perform belt replacement operations on an inspection ditch or overpass.

1. Remove the right front wheel and secure the vehicle securely to the factory-made stand.

2. With a 17 mm head, turn the crankshaft clockwise by the bolt of the accessory drive pulley until the timing marks on the camshaft pulleys are aligned.

3. Remove the accessory drive pulley mounting bolt. To keep the crankshaft from cranking, the assistant must engage fifth gear and press the brake pedal.

Note:

In the absence of an assistant, you can stop the flywheel from turning by removing the rubber plug from the window in the oil pan and inserting a strong rod (about 6 mm in diameter) through the window into the nearest of the six threaded through holes in the flywheel, into which the screws for fastening the "basket are screwed in on the other side of the flywheel. »Clutch.

4. If it is not possible to unscrew the pulley in this way due to the crankshaft turning, then you can lock the flywheel with a screwdriver by inserting it through the oil pan well between the teeth of the flywheel rim.

5. Remove the bolt with washer and remove the accessory drive pulley.

Note:

If, when unscrewing the pulley, the flywheel is blocked with a rod, remove it.

6. Check the alignment of the timing marks on the camshaft pulleys again. With the correct timing of the timing, mark 1 on the crankshaft pulley should be located opposite the slot 2 on the rear cover of the timing drive.

7. If necessary, turn the crankshaft until the marks match.

8. Unfasten the spring latch on the lower front timing cover.

9. Using a 10 mm head, unscrew the lower bolt and the upper bolt of the lower front timing cover.

10. Remove the lower front timing cover.

11. Remove the power steering pump as described.

12. To remove the belt from the pulleys, you need to reduce its tension. To do this, turn the coolant pump housing in the cylinder block housing counterclockwise (with the pump mounting screws loose). Using a 5 mm hex wrench, loosen the tightening of the three screws securing the coolant pump to the cylinder block: one screw located next to the generator bracket (see the first photo below) and through the hole in the rear timing cover of the two screws (see the second photo below), located below it.

Note:

To avoid leakage of coolant through the pump O-ring, only loosen the screws until the pump housing can be turned with a tool.

13. The pump can be turned by the hexagon made on its body, with a 41 mm open-end wrench (for clarity, shown on the removed pump) or (in the absence of a key) with sliding pliers.

14. After loosening the belt tension, remove it from the pulleys of the coolant pump, camshafts and crankshafts and remove the belt.

Timing belt marking (number of teeth 127, belt width 25 mm).

15. When replacing the belt, you must also replace the tensioner and the support roller with new ones. To replace the tensioner with roller assembly, with a 12 mm head, unscrew the three bolts securing the tensioner to the cylinder block and remove the belt tensioner.

16. To remove the support roller with a 14 mm head, unscrew its fastening bolt and remove the roller.

17. Install the tensioner and belt support roller in reverse order. Tighten the tensioner and support roller mounting bolts.

18. Check the condition of the coolant pump before installing the belt. When swinging and rotating by hand, the pump pulley should not feel looseness, jamming, and noise in the bearing should not be heard. Replace the coolant pump with a new one if the indicated faults are present.

19. Before installing the belt, make sure that the timing marks (see above) on the camshaft pulleys and the marks on the crankshaft pulley are aligned with the slot on the rear timing cover. In this position, slide the belt over the crankshaft pulley.

20. While tightening both strands of the belt, lead the front strand over the support roller, and the rear, putting it on the coolant pump pulley, over the tensioner roller. Put the belt on the camshaft pulleys, eliminating the sagging of the belt branches.

21. Tension the belt by turning the coolant pump clockwise until the movable and fixed indicators of the tensioner are aligned (see above in step 9). In this position, tighten the pump mounting screws.

22. To check the valve timing and belt tension, it is necessary to turn the crankshaft two turns. To do this, with the fifth gear engaged, turn the crankshaft clockwise with a 32 mm head by the nut of the left wheel hub bearing.

23. Check the belt tension and the alignment of the crankshaft and camshaft timing marks. If the timing marks do not match, repeat the operation to set the valve timing. Check for leaks from the coolant pump. Otherwise, replace the pump casing O-ring.

24. If the valve timing is correct and the belt tension is normal, then install the lower front timing cover and the accessory drive pulley. Tighten the accessory drive pulley retaining bolt.

25. Carry out further assembly in reverse order. Tighten the screw connections.

26. Fill and bleed the power steering hydraulic fluid with fluid as described. Bring up the coolant level to the normal level as described.

Timing replacement Daewoo Nexia 8 valves produced every 40 thousand kilometers. In addition to the timing belt, it is required to replace the timing rollers. At the same time, in Daewoo Nexia, after 2008, the water pump (pump) is a direct participant in the timing belt drive. Moreover, with the help of a pump, the timing belt is tensioned. If the condition of the pump is in doubt, then it is better to change the water pump (pump) along with the belt.

You should not ignore the replacement of the belt, because in the event of a break, the valve will bend, and this is already a rather expensive and serious repair. Further, detailed instructions for replacing the timing belts Daewoo Nexia with photos.

Replacing the timing belt Daewoo Nexia 8 valves

To check the condition of the timing belt, remove the air resonance chamber 2 of the intake tract by loosening the tightening of the clamp 1 and unscrewing the self-tapping screw 3 securing the chamber to the intake pipe.

Using the "10" head, unscrew the four bolts securing the upper front cover of the timing drive and remove the upper front cover from the rear. See the photo below.

We turn on the fifth gear in the box and hang the right front wheel. Turning the wheel clockwise, we turn the crankshaft and check the condition of the timing belt.

To replace the timing belt, remove the air filter. We remove the drive belt of the generator and the power steering pump. We remove the pulley of the power steering pump and loosen the tightening of the bolts securing the pump to the cylinder block.

For clarity, we show further operations to replace the timing belt on the dismantled engine.
Using the “10” head, unscrew the four bolts securing the upper front cover of the timing drive and remove the cover.

Dismantle the power steering pump.

With the high head "17" we turn the crankshaft clockwise by the bolt of the auxiliary drive pulley. We combine the marks on the camshaft toothed pulley with the slot on the rear cover of the Daewoo Nexia timing drive.

In this case, the mark on the accessory drive pulley (located between the 5th and 6th teeth, counted clockwise from the platform without teeth) should be opposite the pointer on the lower front cover of the timing drive.

With the high head "17" we unscrew the bolt securing the pulley of the accessory drive. To keep the crankshaft from turning, the assistant must engage fifth gear and press the brake pedal. If at the same time it is not possible to unscrew the pulley mounting bolt due to crankshaft turning, then we lock the flywheel.

We take out the bolt and washer and remove the accessory drive pulley. Once again, we check the coincidence of the timing mark on the camshaft toothed pulley with the slot on the rear timing cover. With the correct timing of the timing mechanism, the mark on the crankshaft toothed pulley should be located opposite the slot on the rear cover of the Daewoo Nexia timing drive.

Using the "10" head, unscrew the three bolts securing the lower front cover of the timing drive and remove the cover.

We loosen the tension of the timing belt by turning the spring-loaded movable roller bar with a screwdriver clockwise until the hole in it is aligned with the hole in the roller bracket and insert pins with a diameter of 4.0-4.5 mm into both holes (for example, drill shank or screw).

We remove the belt from the toothed pulleys of the camshaft and crankshafts and the coolant pump.

Using the "12" head, unscrew the tension roller mounting bolt and remove the roller.

Install the new video in reverse order.

Before installing the belt, make sure that the alignment marks on the crankshaft and camshaft toothed pulleys and the corresponding slots on the rear cover of the timing drive are aligned. In this position, we put the belt on the crankshaft toothed pulley. We put the rear branch of the belt behind the tension roller and put the belt on the pulleys of the coolant pump and camshaft, eliminating the sagging of the front branch of the belt.

We take out the pin from the holes of the movable bar and the tension roller bracket. We install the accessory drive pulley and wrap the bolt of its fastening. We turn the crankshaft by the pulley bolt two turns clockwise. If, at the same time, the indicator 1 of the movable strip of the tension roller is aligned with the recess 2 on the bracket (for clarity, the photo is shown on the removed tension roller), then the tension of the timing belt is normal.

If the belt tension is not normal, then we carry out an additional adjustment of the belt tension using the coolant pump. Using a 5 hexagon, loosen the tightening of the three screws securing the coolant pump. In the photo are indicated by arrows.

Timing belt tension changes by turning the pump housing in the cylinder block seat.

You can turn the pump with a 41 key (no more than 150 mm long) using the hexagon on the pump body.

In the absence of such a key, you can independently make a special device from a metal plate.

We install the device in such a way that its legs tightly cover the hexagon of the pump, and use the device as a lever.

The pump can also be turned by the hexagon with the sliding pliers.

We turn the pump body counterclockwise until the pointer of the movable tension roller bar is aligned with the notch on the roller bracket. In this position, tighten the screws securing the coolant pump. We turn the crankshaft clockwise two turns and check the coincidence of the alignment marks of the shafts. Repeat the operation if necessary. We make sure there is no leakage from under the coolant pump. If necessary, replace the pump housing O-ring. We carry out further assembly in the reverse order.

Replacing the timing belt on a sixteen-valve Daewoo Nexia engine is supposed to be done every 60 thousand km or every 4 years. In severe operating conditions, the mileage at which the replacement is performed can be reduced to 50-40 thousand km, since a premature belt breakage threatens serious repair of the entire engine. To replace the belt yourself, you will need a set of wrenches, socket heads and screwdrivers. All images in the instructions are clickable.
The location of timing marks can be seen in the diagram below.

For easier access to the timing belt, remove the air tube and air filter housing.

Loosen the three bolts 12 securing the power steering pump pulley. Remove the upper alternator mounting bolt, loosen the tension on the alternator belt and remove it. In order to remove the gur pump pulley, you need to tilt the engine to the side from the pillows.

Unscrew 3 bolts by 10 and remove the upper part of the timing belt cover.

Now let's move on to the bottom of the engine. Jack up the vehicle and remove the right front wheel. I recommend placing a reliable support under the threshold for safety.

Remove the air resonator and unscrew the plastic guard on the side of the motor.

If an air conditioner is installed, loosen the tension roller and remove the air conditioner belt.
The crankshaft pulley mounting bolt is tightened to 155 Nm. It can be unscrewed with an impact wrench or with the help of an assistant. To do this, the latter includes 4th gear and holds the brake pedal with effort. At the same time, the crankshaft will be fixed and the bolt can be unscrewed using a good wrench with an extension and a socket head.

Before removing the timing belt, set the piston of the first cylinder to top dead center so that the mark on the crankshaft pulley faces the cutout in the metal casing. As the Uzbeks collect these engines, but often with the correct installation of the belt, the arrow on the pulley does not look exactly at the notch, but slightly to the side clockwise. Be careful when removing, then there will be less installation problems. If you make a mistake with the marks even by 1 tooth, then the fuel consumption will increase, the car will "dull" in some modes.
Having unscrewed the bolts by 10, remove the lower part of the timing belt cover.

The marks on the camshafts must point directly opposite each other.

Unscrew 2 bolts 12 fastening the guru pump.

Remove the old timing belt. Around the gur pump, he drags along with difficulty.

New set of timing belt and rollers.

The belt is installed in reverse order. Before installing a new belt, inspect the cooling pump for play, bearing noise, or coolant leaks. If there is the slightest suspicion, it is better to change it.
Installing a new belt. Before installing the toothed belt, it is necessary to check the correctness of the mutual installation of the camshafts and the engine crankshaft according to the marks. Timing belt tension is adjusted by turning the pump with a special key.

Let's say your pump does not change and there is no special key for belt tension. In this case, the new belt is very difficult to fit into place according to the marks. But there is one little trick here. With a 17 key, loosen the exhaust camshaft bolt, but do not completely unscrew it. Then install the new belt according to the marks, use a suitable tool to pull the tension roller tongue up and put the camshaft pulley in place. Maybe not the first time, but it should work out.

Make 2 turns of the crankshaft and check the coincidence of the marks on the pulleys. The tension roller tab should line up with the lip on the landing. If this is not the case, then the tension will still have to be adjusted by turning the pump.

Install the removed parts in reverse order.

Updated.
To replace the pump, you will need to additionally dismantle the power steering pump. The upper tube (injection branch) is unscrewed with a 16 key, the lower one is simply fixed with a clamp on the hose. Next, remove the camshaft pulleys (bolts with a 17 head) and crankshaft (just pry with two flat screwdrivers), unscrew the 3 bolts securing the inner timing belt casing and another 1 bolt 8 securing the bracket for the plastic cover. Just in case, it is better to sign the camshaft pulleys which one comes from. Although they have labels - I (intake or inlet, i.e. intake) and E (exhaust). This is how it looks without pulleys.

And here she is the desired pump. Fastened with three socket head bolts.

Next, you need to drain the coolant. The radiator drain plug very often breaks when trying to unscrew it. An ordinary M12 bolt will help out. The thread of the plug has a pitch less than metric, but you can re-cut it or pick up a bolt with a smaller thread pitch.

Also, the liquid can be drained by removing the lower pipe from the radiator. Prepare more containers in advance, since antifreeze tends to spray in all directions. When you unscrew the pump, about 1 liter of liquid is drained.
Everything is going in reverse order.

P.S. If you can't do it yourself, I will

For the long-term operation of any car, it is necessary to regularly conduct technical inspections and necessary replacements. In order not to save money on a car service, you can perform many procedures yourself. The article describes how to replace the timing belt with a Daewoo Nexia 16 valves with your own hands: the photos and videos that are attached to the article supplement the detailed instructions.

What is a timing belt for?

Before carrying out the replacement with your own hands, you need to figure out what the timing belt is for Daewoo Nexia 8 cl and 16 cl. Its purpose is to synchronize the operation of two shafts: the crankshaft and the camshaft. And also with its help, the work of the water pump is carried out. It is a rubber product in the form of a closed-type rim. On the inside there are teeth that serve for better grip and eliminate slippage.

New replacement consumable

A broken timing belt can have dire consequences for a Daewoo Nexia. When it breaks, the camshaft stops, and the crankshaft continues to move. As a result, the piston knocks on the valves and makes them unusable. This can lead to overhaul of the power unit or its replacement. It should be noted that on an engine where an 8-valve system is installed, the consequences of a break can be less serious than for a power unit, which has 16 valves. It may be necessary to change the valves.

The reason for the rupture both on the engine with 8 cl and 16 cl is most often the natural wear of the product. Over time, the elasticity of the strap is lost, tissue separation begins, and cracks appear. The part can tear if the pump or tensioner roller is jammed, less often when one or more camshafts are seized.

We change the belt ourselves (on 8 and 16 valve cars)

The belt must be replaced according to the regulations or as it wears out. The recommended frequency is after 30-40 thousand kilometers. But it is better to focus not on the mileage, but on the condition of the component.

Required tools

In order to replace the strap, you need to prepare a set of tools, which should include:

  • set of socket wrenches;
  • a set of spanner keys;
  • screwdrivers with different diameters;
  • special key for "41";
  • hexagon;
  • new consumables.

It is better to buy consumables from trusted manufacturers, as this guarantees the quality of the product and, accordingly, long-term operation.

Stages of work

Having prepared the materials and tools, you can start working. You can watch the video to get a better understanding.

  1. First, the air filter housing and everything connected to it are removed.
  2. To access the alternator pulley, remove the front right wheel and mudguard.
  3. Having loosened the lock nut of the air conditioner tensioner roller, remove the roller together with the belt.
  4. Having unscrewed the bolts on the timing case, remove it.
  5. Immediately loosen the mounting bolts on the power steering pulley.
  6. Having slightly unscrewed the generator bolt, it is necessary to move it to the motor and remove the strap.
  7. Now we unscrew the crankshaft pulley mounting bolt.
  8. Next, you need to remove the power steering pulley.
  9. Before removing the timing belt on the Daewoo Nexia, it is necessary to set the marks. To do this, you need to rotate the entire gas distribution mechanism until the marks on the casing and the camshaft pulley match. Likewise, the mark on the crankshaft must also match the mark on the bottom of the casing. The camshaft pulley marks must be opposite each other.
  10. The next step is to loosen the bolt on the idler pulley and then remove it and the strap. If a water pump is present, check its condition and replace if worn.
  11. Having installed a new tension roller with our own hands, we pull on a new strap. Installation should start with the crankshaft, pump and tensioner roller. Then, turning the camshaft in the clockwise direction, put on the second strand of the belt.
  12. By turning the pump, set the marks on the roller until they match.

    Then tighten the bolts on the water pump.

  13. After installing the components, the labels should be checked again, they should match. Next, we return to the place the protective casing and the crankshaft pulley.
  14. Next, we fasten everything in the reverse order.

When the replacement is completed, start the engine and check its operation. If without interruption, then everything is in order. This completes the procedure for replacing the timing belt with your own hands on a Daewoo Nexia with 8 cells and 16 cells.

The operation of the gas distribution mechanism is important for the engine of any vehicle. Problems in the functioning of this unit will lead to serious vehicle malfunctions. One of the main elements of the device is the strap. How to replace the timing belt Daewoo Nexia 16 valves and how often it needs to be done, we will tell you in this article.

Why do you need a timing belt?

The timing strap in the Daewoo Nexia 16 valve car is a product made of rubber in the form of a closed-type rim. There are special teeth inside the belt, designed to ensure optimal grip of the shafts and prevent the product from slipping. In Daewoo Nexia 16 valves, this element is used to synchronize the camshaft and crankshaft. Thanks to it, the correct operation of the water pump is ensured. The video about the change, published by the Ivan Gotenko channel, is presented below.

How often do you need to change?

Many car owners of Daewoo Nexia 109 16v are interested in how much and when to change the strap. According to the technical regulations, the manufacturer recommends replacing the timing belt every 60 thousand kilometers or after four years of operation. If the car is used in harsh conditions, for example, in a taxi, then the product should be changed every 40-50 thousand km.

Wear symptoms

The following signs will report the need to replace the Daewoo Nexia 16 valve belt:

  1. Engine vibration has increased. The power unit began to triple, it takes more time to develop speed. Especially when driving uphill at higher rpm. The engine does not "pull".
  2. Uncharacteristic blue, and in some cases black smoke from the muffler appeared.
  3. There is a noise in the motor.
  4. There were difficulties in starting the power unit. The engine starts, but it takes longer.

To check the performance of the timing belt, it is necessary to make its visual diagnostics. Remove the casing from the timing gear and inspect the strap. If it shows signs of damage in the form of cracks or other defects, then the product may break off soon. Threads appeared on the side parts of the belt - the result of delamination of the part structure. With such a defect, the service life of the device will be low. In critical cases, one or more teeth on the inner side of the belt may fall off, causing it to slip and break. The author of the video about replacing the timing strap - GRAM Positive, all good.

What is the threat of an untimely replacement?

If the timing for changing the timing belt in Daewoo Nexia 16 valves is violated, this threatens with serious consequences for the vehicle. With critical wear, the strap will break. As a result, the camshaft will stop, and the crankshaft will continue to work. During its movement, the piston will begin to knock on the valves, which may cause them to bend. The car owner will have to overhaul the engine or change the engine. Moreover, the consequences will be more unpleasant for an 8-valve unit. The valves themselves will have to be changed.

To prevent such problems, you must constantly monitor the condition of the strap. The breakage of the product is usually associated with its natural wear and tear. During long-term use, the belt loses its elasticity, its structure delaminates, and cracks appear on it. The strap may break when the pump or tension roller is jammed. Sometimes it breaks due to the inoperability of the camshaft.

How to replace the belt yourself?

Changing the timing belt for the Daewoo Nexia 16 valve is carried out by specialists at the service station or independently. It is better to do the work yourself on a 16-cl engine with experience. If you have not faced such a task, the change can be difficult. The material about the replacement of the product was filmed and published by Alexey Zakharov.

Required tools

If we change the product with our own hands, then we prepare the following tool:

  • set of socket and spanner wrenches;
  • phillips and flat head screwdrivers in different sizes;
  • special key for rollers 41;
  • hexagon.

Timing belt selection

So that the product does not wear out quickly, you cannot save on buying a strap. The modern market for consumables offers consumers many types of timing belts. Today, the best options for Daewoo Nexia 16 valves are:

  • Bosch, p / n 1987949403, original strap for Nexia and Espero;
  • Dongil, part number 96352969, designed specifically for Nexia;
  • Gates is an alternative, ECCO certified and has proven itself in practice.

Keep in mind that cheap straps tend to wear out and break faster.

If you decide to change the timing belt, assess the condition of the rollers. If they are worn out and there is damage to the body, these parts must also be replaced.

Algorithm of actions

Below we will tell you in detail how to properly change the product with your own hands.

Removing the old belt

To change a product, you must first remove it. Replacing the timing belt Daewoo Nexia 16 valves is done as follows:

Detailed instructions for replacing a product with your own hands are presented in a video filmed by Sergey Kapitanchuk.

Installation and stretching

How to install and stretch the product correctly:

  1. The installation process is carried out upside-down. Before installing the product, carefully inspect the pump of the cooling system and the place of its attachment. Backlash is not allowed. Spin the bearings, they should turn without noise. Leakage of refrigerant from the cooling system is also prevented. The leakage problem must be corrected by changing the pump, and the noisy bearings must be replaced with new ones.
  2. The correct location of the camshafts, as well as the crankshaft of the power unit, is checked in accordance with the marks. If everything is set correctly, you can put a new timing strap. During installation, the tension of the product is adjusted by turning the pump. This requires a special key. If there is no tool, and the pump does not change, then the installation of a new product is difficult to carry out using the marks, although in general it is possible. Take a 17 wrench and loosen the exhaust camshaft screw, you do not need to completely unscrew it. Install the new product according to the markings, and then use a screwdriver or other tool to pull the tension roller tab up. Reinstall the camshaft pulley. This task will take time, but it can be done.
  3. Two crankshaft turns are made. Make sure the marks on the pulleys are aligned. The so-called tension roller tongue should be against the shoulder located on the platform. If this cannot be achieved, then a special key is required to adjust the rotation of the pump.
  4. Installation of all parts and elements is carried out in the reverse order. The crankshaft pulley screw itself is tightened to a torque of 95 Nm. Then the bolt is rotated another 30 and 15 degrees. The crankshaft is secured against scrolling by turning on the first speed and pressing the brake pedal.
  5. Add coolant to the system if necessary.
  6. The stretching process is carried out by adjusting the roller. When tightening up, it is important to achieve a "golden mean" so that the belt is not overtightened and under-tightened. Both that, and another will lead to accelerated wear of the product and its breakage.
