Which was created to conquer the budget segment of the automotive market in Eastern Europe is the Fiat Albea - a car previously produced by the company.

Before the existence of this model, the manufacturer already produced a car for Eastern Europe, but after some time it ceased to comply with environmental standards and production was discontinued. Fiat was not upset and released a new model. Its serial launch was started in 2002, the model was initially produced in Turkey, after which production was also organized in Russia.

In 2004, the car was restyled, which slightly changed its appearance and interior. They produced cars in three types of bodies, these are sedan, hatchback and station wagon, but only a sedan body was supplied to our country for sale. In 2012, production was discontinued.

Design


The front of the car has got small halogen headlights, connected to a rectangular grille. The bumper of the sedan received, painted in body color, at the bottom with air direction grilles and two round foglights.

On the side, a strong depression between the swollen wheel arches is immediately noticed. There is nothing more to stand out for the profile.

At the back there are narrow lights, some of which are located on the trunk lid, shaped with recesses. At the bottom there is a massive bumper, which clearly does not stand out.


The model belongs to the B class, it is a budget small family car, which you can safely move in the city.

Specifications

The manufacturer offered for this model 4 types of power units with simple characteristics, including one diesel, but the manufacturer supplied models with only one type of engine to our country. This is a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder petrol unit, which produced 77 horsepower and worked in tandem with a 5-speed, which in turn transmitted to the front wheels. There is little power and therefore there was no talk of speed, but this was quite enough for the city.


Dynamic performance left much to be desired, it is 13.5 seconds to 100 km / h and a maximum speed of 162 km / h. But the fuel consumption was not so high, in the city it would have required only 8 liters, and on highway 5 - a good result.

The rest of the motors that you are unlikely to find in the secondary market were slightly worse, these are 3 versions of the 1.2-liter unit. And only a 1.6-liter engine with a capacity of 103 horsepower could boast of acceleration in almost 11 seconds, but at the same time it was very upsetting by its high fuel consumption.

The Fiat Albea suspension is conventional, it is a MacPherson strut front with springs, it is independent. A semi-independent suspension with a torsion beam is installed at the rear. This makes the car acceptable in terms of comfort, and at the same time it will not be very expensive to repair it. The vehicle is stopped using the front ventilated disc brakes, while the rear drum brakes. The steering is also assisted by a rack and pinion mechanism equipped with a hydraulic booster. The expensive configuration includes ABS.

Interior


In the cabin, passengers and the driver will not get too much space and comfort, but in terms of functionality, it will receive everything that is necessary for normal driving. Firstly, the driver, he received power windows from all windows in a rich configuration. In his hands he got a 3-spoke steering wheel with a slightly unusual design behind which was a completely ordinary dashboard.

The center console of Fiat Albea is equipped with a head unit at the top, and at the bottom with air conditioning and stove control selectors. Over the entire existence of the car, the owners have developed different impressions, nevertheless, they managed to provide information about the main problems of the car. Interior problems include the fact that the upholstery of the doors is too easily soiled and constantly had to be removed and cleaned, there is no Russian language in the on-board computer, in some cars coolant flowed from the pedal in severe frost, which is bad for Russian conditions.

There is not so much space in the interior, in front it is more or less enough, but the back row will cause a little discomfort. The front seats are uncomfortable, although they have a fair amount of mechanical adjustment. The cladding leaves much to be desired, as well as the lateral support, which in principle is not needed here.


There is more than enough space in the trunk, the volume is just over 500 liters, and at the same time there is a full-size spare wheel under it. Folding down the rear row of seats gives you a virtually flat floor and more storage space.

Price

The release of the Italian ended in 2012, so you can buy the model only on the secondary market. There are enough offers with an average price of 200 thousand rublesthat is inexpensive for such a sedan.

As a result, we can say that it was a good car for the budget segment, but as it is acceptable for it with any drawbacks, you can buy a Fiat Albea for yourself, but in case of any problems it will be difficult to find a company store or service center, especially in a small city, due to the fact that the brand is not very popular.

Front suspension type McPherson, independent, spring, with anti-roll bar, with hydraulic shock absorber struts. The rear suspension is semi-independent, spring-loaded, with hydraulic shock absorbers.
The front wheels are disc brakes, ventilated with a floating caliper, the rear ones are drum brakes, with an automatic adjustment device for the clearances between brake pads and drums. The braking system is equipped with a vacuum booster. On cars with Base and Classic trim levels, a brake force regulator is installed in the hydraulic drive of the rear wheel brakes. Cars in the Comfort configuration are equipped with an anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake force distribution (EBD).
The steering is non-traumatic, with a pinion-rack-type steering mechanism and a tilt-adjustable steering column. All vehicles are equipped with a hydraulic booster. A front airbag is located in the steering wheel hub.
All vehicles are equipped with inertial diagonal seat belts for the driver, front passenger and outermost passengers in the back seat. For the middle passenger in the rear seat, there is a non-inertial lap belt.

I'm happy with the car. For six years, he drove 115 thousand km. Two months ago I replaced the muffler (burned out). Started up to minus 30. Not started only once - a year ago, stood at -30 for two days. The battery was not changed.

The front wheel bearings were replaced, front silent blocks on both sides, but this is my fault - I drove on bad roads (broken asphalt with pits).

I think the disadvantage of the car is the increased fogging of the car (the air conditioner helps). After three years of operation after frost, problems with the locks began - the handle does not return to its original position, you have to press it.

The great advantages of the car are economy and a large trunk with the ability to recline the rear seats. There were problems (stuck) with shifting gears (to the fourth after the fifth) - similar to that in the Zhiguli (7th model).

Noise isolation, of course, would be better. MOT took place every 15 thousand km. I think Fiat Albea is a very good family car for a quiet, not fast driving on good roads.

Acquired in 2008, in the middle configuration. I've been driving for 6 years now, drove 98,000 km. There were no problems with maintenance and repair. until now I have not changed anything, only oil, filters and candles.

The battery is worthy of respect, suffers 6 years. In cold weather it starts up without problems. Consumption really pleases. The engine is weak, but it is enough.

The volume of the trunk is enough for all things when you go on a long trip with your family. The plastic is harsh, but tightly exposed, you can't compare it with a domestic car. In general, a good car for our conditions.

Review of Fiat Albea 2008

During the operation, Fiat has shown itself to be a very strong and reliable device. There were no terrible breakdowns for 60 thousand kilometers. If you remember, I only changed consumables, rear shock absorbers, an outer CV joint, a clutch kit, ball valves, a radiator fan resistor (the second speed of rotation was turned on immediately), a valve cover gasket and a light bulb.

Of the pros:
- High seating position of the driver + impressive ground clearance of 18 cm for a minisedan.
- I have never been stuck anywhere, rowing to the last.
- Consumption on the highway 5-6 liters.
- Very strong suspension, forgiving most of the holes that come across on the way.
- A good stove, heats up quickly, the air conditioner also did not cause problems.
- A huge trunk for a car of this size (500 and something liters) + seats folding into a flat floor, in the car I drove pipes 2.5 meters.
- There is still a native battery, it has never happened so that the car does not start from auto start even at -30 °.
- Doors are locked at speeds over 20 km / h (useful piece).
- The dynamics are quite enough for the city.
- The car is absolutely unpretentious in every sense.

Cons:
- It is quite difficult to find spare parts for it in Murmansk, and they cost decently. I have to order from Chelny or Moscow, but they are still decent ...
- Once or twice a year in cold weather the coolant temperature sensor is buggy (the arrow falls, the check lights up, the arrow immediately comes back, and the check burns until the next day).
- The paint on the arches cannot withstand pebbles flying out from under the wheels.
- The steering wheel is somehow not tenacious, the effect of cheap plastic.

Pros:
- Inexpensive car.

I drove 20 thousand km. Moved from Focus. Compared to the previous one, of course, the difference is in the little things, not in favor of the latter. And these are door locks, wipers, a high torpedo, an unsuccessful design of the adjustment and air ducts of the stove, the clutch pedal gets stuck on a rubber mat, etc.

Pros: engine efficiency, good gear ratios in the gearbox, good handling, high seating position.

The main disadvantages: poorly shifting from second gear to first, every time the clutch gets stuck on a rubber mat; when starting in cold weather, it shows “engine failure” - the throttle valve is a weak point in the engine, it is necessary to periodically clean it and carry out software adaptation after cleaning; inconvenient location of the filler neck of the washer reservoir; due to the large "windage" of the body on a slippery road, it can skid with sharp gusts of wind (again, comparison with the Focus on the same road).

Overall assessment: the car is not bad, it is worth the money. The main function of the "vehicle" is excellent!

The front suspension is independent, lever-spring type MacPherson, with telescopic shock absorber struts, coil coil springs, lower wishbones and an anti-roll bar. The location of the front suspension elements on the vehicle is shown in Fig. 1, 2, 3, 4.

The main element of the front suspension is a telescopic shock absorber strut 1 (Fig. 2), which combines the functions of a telescopic element of the guide mechanism and a damping element for vertical oscillations of the wheel relative to the body. On the shock absorber strut 1, a twisted cylindrical compression buffer 4, a protective casing 5 of the strut and an upper support 1 are assembled (Fig. 1). The thrust bearing in the upper support transfers the load to the vehicle body. The shock absorber strut with its lower part is connected to the steering knuckle 3 (Fig. 4) of the front suspension. The front suspension arm is attached at the rear to the cross member 2 (Fig. 3) of the suspension by means of a silent block and a rubber bushing, and by the front part through a ball joint it is connected to the lower part of the steering knuckle of the front suspension. The cross member, in turn, is attached to the body side members.
The anti-roll bar 1 with rubber cushions installed on it is connected to the cross member 2 of the front suspension and to the levers by four brackets.

In the "classic" and "comfort" car trim levels, the front springs have more rigid characteristics, in contrast to the "base" trim levels. Outwardly, there are no differences, the difference lies in the labeling of the springs. On the "base" there are one white and two green points; "classic" and "comfort" are one yellow and two brown dots.

Replacing the front struts and springs.

Before replacing old (dead) racks, it is necessary to carefully diagnose the condition of the above listed elements. So that later it would not be sad when you remove the rack and disassemble it into its components, you will understand that there are not enough new elements for repair, since it makes no sense to put the old ones back.

If the front shock absorbers fail, the working fluid (oil) gets on the protective rubber boot, thereby corroding it and rendering it unusable. Also, there are frequent failures of the front supports of the shock absorbers. In general, to replace the front struts, in addition to the struts themselves, you may need:
- Dampers (bumpers);
- Protective cover (boot);
- Upper support of shock absorbers;
- Springs.

Before replacing the front struts, you need to make simple measurements as shown in the photo below.


And if the dimensions you measured coincide and the size from the edge of the wing to the center of the wheel axle on a standing car is 373 mm (photo 1) or less, then the front springs must also be replaced. Because in this case, the weight of the car is not spring-loaded, but lies with a polyurethane bump stop on the rack and the car's suspension does not work. For those who still have doubts about the correctness of the calculation, they can make the calculations themselves. Photo 2 shows the size of the full protrusion of the stem from the rack, photo 3 a bump stop installed in its place (the height of our bump stop is 93 mm). 435 mm is the dimension from the edge of the fender to the center of the wheel with the front wheel suspended from the jack.
The optimal size from the edge of the wing to the middle of the wheel, installed without load on the ground of the car, for high-quality operation of the front suspension is 385-390 mm.

And so, to replace the front struts and springs, you will need the following tool: a spanner wrench for 13 (upper rack mount), a ring wrench for 19, spring ties, a hexagon for 6 (unscrew the upper nut for 19 supports), open-end wrench for 17 (compress the springs)

Comparison of old (stock) and new springs.
Spring height 380 mm and bar thickness 12 mm are absolutely identical to the springs installed at the factory.
As practice has shown, the front springs of the Kilen 12161, with all the external attributes, turned out to be of not very good quality. Sagged literally in the very first months of operation. Therefore, I do not recommend these springs for installation on a car, the result will be the same: wasted money!

Front springs Taksim FT-3034


Have the following dimensions Height 400 mm and bar diameter 12 mm. The difference in length is 20 mm, and in fact the photographs show a more stretched method of winding. Such springs, judging by the catalogs, are intended for installation on cars equipped with a 1.9 liter diesel engine. Such springs are accordingly designed for high loads.

Universal anthers with bumpers, Japanese production code 04-020, where 020 means the diameter of the stem of our rack is 20 mm and the length is 98 mm. The length of the bump stop had to be shortened by one ring, i.e. under the size 84 mm (the size of the standard bumper is 93 mm). Having installed anthers with bumpers of this brand, we simultaneously solve another childhood illness of our car - this is the knock of a plastic bump stop on a metal support cup.






Another option is presented below.

Elimination of squeaks in the front suspension.

If there are characteristic squeaks in the front suspension (rubber crunch) after the car overcomes large irregularities on the road (example: a speed bump), first of all, you should pay attention to two components of the front suspension that can emit these sounds:

Outer anti-roll bar bushings;
- Front silent blocks of the front lower suspension arms.

Accordingly, we are trying to solve the problem of squeaks with little blood, for this, first we replace the stabilizer bushings. Maybe this will be the end of our search.

Remove any front wheel.

We unscrew the central mounts on both sides of the stabilizer and the outer mount of the stabilizer on the other side where the wheel was removed.

Elimination of knocking anthers of the front struts

1. We jack up the front of the car to hang out the wheel. It is not necessary to remove the wheel - it does not interfere. Lower the boot down.



2. Cut a ring with a diameter of 80 mm from rubber of any thickness. Inner diameter for stem about 15 mm

It turned out to be more difficult to remove the ball bearings and the old s / b, which did not fall out on their own, I had to cut, drill, saw the rubber in order to release the outer sleeve of the front one and the inner rear sleeve. The rear bushing is cut off by the grinder to the axle, torn off with a gas wrench, after which it can be easily removed. To remove the ball joint it is necessary to cut off the heads of the rivets with a grinder, and drill out the body of the rivets, or press out with a press (if any).


The jig for pressing in the rear s / b had to be done by myself.


The process of pressing in with / w is clear from the photo. We install the jig on the lever, bait three bolts so that the small hole. in the lever coincided with the small holes in the jig (for centering, you can use a drill with a diameter of 5 mm), tighten the bolts, ream the hole in the lever to a diameter of 6.1-6.2 mm and insert a pin 6 mm in diameter made of good hardened steel (the drill shank bends when pressing ). We pre-wash the bushings and axles, then press in with a / b. The nuance is only in the correct orientation of the rear s / w, which is done visually, combining the plane of the s / w bracket with the plane of the conductor angle.
