Updating the body and interior of the UAZ

The body on the UAZ has remained the same, it has an almost square geometric shape, which is inherent in cars made for motorists with a cool masculine character. Nevertheless, some additions were made to its design, for example, during restyling, some body elements were reinforced. For the manufacture of the updated UAZ Patriot 2014, it was decided to use a new metal. As a result, the weight of the SUV has increased. To prevent corrosion from touching the Patriot, its body is completely galvanized. In the further plans - a load-bearing body, but this will wait for more than one year.

In the car

The volumetric dimensions of the body on the UAZ have not changed: length - 4700 mm, width with mirrors - no more than 2100 mm, height limitation - 1910 mm. The modern European design of handles, mirrors and sun visors cannot fail to attract attention. New ceiling handles are attached to the door. 2DIN stereo system with USB output has the ability to synchronize with a mobile phone, allowing you to turn on the speakerphone.

On the armrest of the driver's seat, you can now find a block for operating the power windows, as a result, this function has become much easier to operate. Behind the wheel is a wheel switch. The climate control system has been improved, now it corresponds to the western model. The 2014 Patriot package includes a "winter package" - now the seats are heated both in the back and in the front, which is really good, because the frosts in Russia are very harsh.

Although the UAZ Patriot 2014 has rear-wheel drive, it is quite possible to connect a front-wheel drive to it. And even in spite of the rear-wheel drive, the UAZ maintains a high level of off-road passage where foreign samples fail.

Under the hood, the Patriot has a new diesel unit ZMZ-51432 with a turbocharging function. It perfectly complements the ZMZ-409 gasoline engine and has been installed on the UAZ Patriot since 2014. The Bosch concern helped create such an engine for the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant. This is an improved version of the unit that was installed earlier.

Engine power has not changed: the 2.7-liter gasoline unit produces 128 liters. from. The volume of the turbocharged diesel engine is 2.2 liters. The speed limit for a gasoline engine is 150 km / h, for a diesel engine - 135 km / h. The first unit weighs 40 kilograms, it is lighter than a diesel one, although the lifting force does not change - 530 kilograms.

The machine's power has noticeably increased due to the installation of an imported distribution box. Now the value of the working coefficient of lowering the row has increased to 2.96. As a result, the noise reaching the interior of the SUV has been reduced. The distribution system is much longer than the previous version. And since the cardan shaft was shortened, the intermediate support was simply not needed. Due to the installation of a new box, the floor tunnel has also changed. The battery has not been forgotten either, it has acquired a larger volume. All this indicates that the designers of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant took care of improving the car.

The suspension of the updated Patriot is secured in front by an anti-roll bar with springs, and at the rear it is held by leaf springs. The hydraulic supports were removed, and the mechanical-type hinges were returned in their place. In addition to them - a long stop for greater strength. The cross member of the frame has acquired a new shape.

The car has a reinforced suspension

The handbrake is now directly connected to the rear wheels, and not, as before, through the propeller shaft. The changes in this area are quite noticeable. Rear drum brakes, front disc brakes. A five-speed manual transmission, power steering, made in Italy, help to cope with the car without much effort.

The control lever now fits more comfortably in the hand, it has become shorter, the backlashes that appear when changing gears are practically removed. Comfort in shifting has been improved as the new selector offers three position options:

  • when choosing the 2H variation, the thrust moves to the rear axle system;
  • 4H - and you are using a front wheel drive system;
  • 4L - the transmission work is down.

Now, in order for the car to go in front-wheel drive, it is enough to lower the speed to 60 km / h and move the control lever to the 4H position. If you decide to use a downshift, you have to stop. Squeeze the clutch pedal all the way, move the shift lever to position 4L and keep it in this position until a special activator located on the dashboard lights up. When clicks into a downshift, minor disturbances in the machine electronics are possible. This is one of the shortcomings of the new Patriot.

The improvement of the car continues. New wiring that meets world standards is promised, an electromechanical distribution system, and an automatic transmission will not interfere. According to the authors of the project, the appearance of the car will radically change already in 2015, and a 2.0 turbocharged gasoline engine is expected to be delivered in the very near future.

In August 2013, the domestic SUV UAZ Patriot celebrated its 8th anniversary and, in honor of its birthday, presented itself to its fans in a new version of the 2014 sample. The official presentation of the next restyled version of the Patriot took place on August 6 in Ulyanovsk, and during it the UAZ management boasted of its sales success: if in the first year of the Patriot model's existence, dealers sold only 8,500 cars, then by the end of last year, 27,000 SUVs were sold, and this year this figure will exceed 30,000, unless, of course, the UAZ Patriot 2014 model year, sales of which have already begun, will appeal to domestic buyers.

Externally, UAZ Patriot 2014 is difficult to distinguish from its predecessor - the cars are identical except for the LED elements in the daytime running lights. The dimensions of the SUV have remained the same: the length is 4700 mm, while the wheelbase is 2760 mm, the width with mirrors does not exceed 2100 mm, and the height is limited to 1910 mm. The Patriot's ground clearance is 210 mm, while it is able to overcome a ford up to 500 mm deep.

The body structure has not undergone major changes during restyling, but some elements have been further strengthened. In particular, the hood is made from a new type of metal, because of which it has become much heavier, which forced the manufacturer to abandon the usual hydraulic supports and change them to mechanical hinges, supplemented by a long stop (return to the past, not otherwise).

The interior of the Patriot's five-seater saloon has changed more noticeably. First of all, we note the new headliner. It is finally solid, more pleasant to the touch and got rid of the eternal problem of sagging in the center. The layout of the front panel was changed last year, but now the quality of fit of parts has improved slightly, and the plastic has become a little softer. New ceiling handles appeared above the doors (seemingly borrowed from Lada Kalina). The gearshift lever has become a little shorter, it fits easier in the hand, and annoying backlash disappeared when shifting gears. Disappeared, of course, not completely, but progress is obvious and clearly visible.

Now let's move to the trunk. Here, the developers have applied a completely new upholstery with a very secure fit and a high level of fit, at least nothing on the new car dangles and does not creak when pressed. The boot shelf has also changed, but it is difficult to say anything good or bad about it. By the way, in the luggage compartment there is one more detail "stolen" from Lada Kalina - this is the lighting shade on the right side. Its location, admittedly, is not entirely convenient - with a full load of the trunk, there is little sense from it. The capacity of the cargo compartment remains the same - 960 liters in standard condition and 2300 liters with the second row of seats folded.

Specifications. UAZ Patriot 2014 did not receive new engines. The choice of the buyer was left with the previous engines: one gasoline and one diesel. The basic is considered to be a gasoline four-cylinder unit with a working volume of 2.7 liters, the maximum power of which is 128 hp. at 4600 rpm. The torque of the gasoline engine at its peak rests on the mark of 209.7 Nm, achieved already at 2500 rpm, which allows the SUV to have excellent qualities in terms of cross-country ability. But in the conditions of a high-speed highway, the motor of rapid acceleration will not give the UAZ, so overtaking any truck cannot be called a pleasant experience, especially since the Patriot's speed maximum is 150 km / h.
As for fuel consumption, the average gasoline consumption is predicted by the manufacturer at around 11.5 liters at a driving speed of 90 km / h. In off-road conditions, the consumption easily jumps up to 20 liters, so it was not for nothing that the developers supplied the UAZ Patriot with two gas tanks with a total volume of 72 liters.

The diesel engine is even less impressive. Its working volume is 2.2 liters (2235 cm3), and the maximum output does not exceed 113.5 hp. The diesel engine, of course, produces more torque - 270 Nm at 1800 rpm, which is very useful on the off-road, but does not give any advantages on the highway. Moreover, the maximum speed of the diesel version of the UAZ Patriot does not exceed 135 km / h, on which a frequent desire to overtake someone is unlikely to appear. Pleases only more economical fuel consumption - 9.5 liters.

Both engines of the UAZ Patriot 2014 model year are aggregated only with a 5-speed "mechanics", but the Patriot's distribution box is now new. The old noisy UAZ transfer case is finally a thing of the past and its place was taken by the modern Korean transfer case from Dymos with a gear ratio of 2.56 instead of the previous 1.94, which significantly improved the Patriot's cross-country ability. In addition, the new transfer case is practically silent, and it is controlled by a convenient washer, and not a mechanical lever. However, this decision, which brings UAZ Patriot 2014 closer to the crossover class, will not appeal to all off-road driving enthusiasts. The fact is that if the engine stalls when the low gear is on (4L mode), then the low gear is turned off automatically, and then it may not turn on, i.e. it will take a few hundred meters to travel before the electronics "come to life". Given the fact that the engine in mud or on a difficult climb can stall quite often, this behavior of the Korean handout does not inspire much optimism.

The chassis of the UAZ Patriot 2014 remained practically unchanged: a dependent spring suspension at the front and a dependent structure with two longitudinal semi-elliptical small leaf springs at the rear. Of the improvements made, we single out a new principle of operation of the handbrake drive: if it previously blocked the propeller shaft, now it blocks the rear wheels.
The main braking system remains the same: disc brakes with two cylinders at the front and drum mechanisms at the rear. In all modifications, the SUV is equipped with a power steering.

Options and prices. Petrol UAZ Patriot 2014 is offered in five trim levels: basic "Welcome", "Classic", "Comfort", "Limited" and "Trophy" for connoisseurs of completely off-road style. The diesel version is limited to the Comfort, Limited and Trophy equipment. In the basic version, the car is equipped with 16-inch stamped discs, athermal glass, immobilizer, central locking, head restraints, fabric interior, full power accessories and a full spare wheel.
The price for the new UAZ Patriot starts at 499,000 rubles. The most affordable diesel version will cost at least 711,000 rubles. According to the manufacturer, the next update of the Patriot is scheduled for 2015 (then the SUV will receive a new gasoline engine, different optics, other bumpers and a whole set of minor interior improvements).


Looking at him, we should awaken a craving for the Russian expanses, love for Putin and pride in our people. But for some reason, tears come to your eyes not at all from its beauty ... What should make you buy THIS, in addition to the obligatory name - UAZ Patriot?

Exterior

The updated UAZ Patriot received a new front end. The headlights are now equipped with LED daytime running lights, and in all trim levels. The bumpers are now attached directly to the body. Accordingly, the giant gaps between the parts are gone.

Behind the updated UAZ Patriot makes a strange impression. The exhaust pipe remains in place, but why does the new bumper have recesses on the sides for the tailpipes? Are we getting a sporty version of the SUV? Who invented this !? At least the new lights look okay ...

Interior

The main innovation in the cabin is the touchscreen display on the control panel. It can be used to control navigation and multimedia system. The image from the rear view camera is projected onto it. The dashboard has been updated, but, depending on the configuration, it looks different. The most presentable look, of course, is in the top version. There, devices will be with chrome rims.

Specifications

In terms of power plants, the updated UAZ Patriot did not offer anything new. There are still two engines to choose from - a 2.7-liter gasoline unit with 128 horsepower and a 2.3-liter 118-horsepower diesel. It's time to put more powerful engines. There is no "machine" either, even in the list of options. A 5-speed manual transmission is used as a transmission. The SUV received a rear anti-roll bar and maintenance-free propeller shafts with increased resource.

Prices and configuration

The updated UAZ Patriot has risen in price. The starting price of the model is 649,000 rubles (excluding the discount on disposal). The increase amounted to almost 50,000 rubles. The basic version Classic, to put it mildly, does not boast a variety of equipment. Interesting, perhaps, is the power steering and power windows on all doors. And no air conditioning, no ABS. All this is available, starting with the Comfort configuration, which will cost at least 699,990. For a diesel engine, a surcharge of 70,000 rubles. The price of the top version can reach almost 820,000 rubles, which can make your head spin.

One of the currently most popular domestic off-road vehicles, the UAZ Patriot SUV, has been produced at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant since August 2005. In fact, it was a modernized UAZ-3162 "Simbir", since much of the technical equipment was transferred to the new model practically unchanged. The only thing that the Patriot has clearly added relative to its predecessor is the level of comfort. Since its debut, the SUV was produced without major updates until 2012, when a restyling was carried out, mainly affecting the interior. Then the car received a new dashboard, a four-spoke steering wheel of the German company Takata-Petri AG, a new air conditioning system, a 2DIN radio tape recorder with a USB connector and a speakerphone function, an updated interior with a combined color scheme of black and beige. A number of changes have also taken place in the trim levels.

At the beginning of 2013, the UAZ Patriot finally got a turbocharged diesel engine, which supplemented the petrol ZMZ-409 in the engine range. A new turbodiesel engine with the ZMZ-51432 index was developed at the Zavolzhsky Engine Plant with the participation of BOSCH specialists. We will talk in detail about its technical characteristics a little later.

Following the appearance of a new diesel engine in the range of engines in August 2013, another restyling burst out, designed to complete the series of updates that began a year earlier. This time, the changes affected both the design and the technical component. We will try to understand all the differences between the restyled UAZ Patriot 2014 model year from its predecessor in this review.

Let's start with the fact that the SUV has retained its overall dimensions. The length of the car is 4647 mm, width and height are 2080 and 1900 mm, respectively. When installed on the roof rails, the height increases to 2000 mm. The appearance of the car after restyling has changed slightly, in fact, the update only affected the head optics. The new Patriot has got LED daytime running lights, which is still a rarity for domestic cars. The rest of the exterior remains the same, although it is hardly worth worrying about, since before the restyling of the UAZ Patriot it looked quite nice. Straight body lines, a massive front bumper, regular headlights, widened wheel arches, an almost square stern - this is a real man's car, ready for serious off-road tests. Of course, the impression is slightly spoiled by the lack of original design solutions and not too tight fit of the body elements, but all these shortcomings are more than compensated by the remarkable all-terrain potential of the car.

The main change in the technical "stuffing" of the UAZ Patriot 2014, which entailed a serious revision of the architecture of the car's interior, is the installation of a new transfer case with electronic control of the Korean company DYMOS. Its appearance led to the disappearance of the transfer case control lever, which looked at least inappropriate next to the gear shift knob. Now a three-position selector flaunts in place of the lever. In the 2H position, traction is transmitted only to the rear axle, and the choice of positions 4H and 4L allows you to engage, respectively, all-wheel drive and downshift. Moreover, if you can switch the transmission to 4H mode right on the move (at a speed of no more than 60 km / h), then to turn on the lowering row, you must stop and perform a certain sequence of actions. First, squeeze the clutch, and then move the selector to the extreme right position and hold it there for 3-4 seconds. A special indication on the panel helps to make sure that the mode has been activated.

Replacing the transfer case entailed a whole series of design changes. Firstly, the new transfer case turned out to be longer than the old one, so the cardan shaft had to be shortened, as a result of which there was no need for an intermediate support. Secondly, for the installation of the box, the floor tunnel had to be changed. Thirdly, a frame cross member of a different configuration was installed. Finally, the handbrake mechanism has been completely revised. If earlier the "handbrake" blocked the propeller shaft, now the cables are connected directly to the brake drums of the rear wheels.

Equipping the new UAZ Patriot 2014 with an imported transfer case has significantly improved the traction characteristics of the SUV. This is made possible by the increased gear ratio of the lowering row, which is 2.96 (the old value was 1.94). Another important advantage of this update was a significant reduction in the noise level inside the cabin, i.e. the same drawback, which was considered an integral part of the pre-styling Patriot, was eliminated. And of course, the very process of changing the operating mode of the transmission, albeit somewhat intricate, has become more convenient and soundless. It is still premature to talk about the shortcomings of the new handout, although already now some motorists note that the electronics do not always respond adequately to an attempt to turn on a downshift.

Speaking about other updates in the last restyled SUV, it is worth paying attention to not so dramatic, but at the same time very pleasant and useful transformations in the cabin. First of all, they added finishing materials as materials, including softer plastic. Finally, the power window control unit has changed its location, moving from the front panel to the armrest of the driver's door. The steering wheel has got new paddle shifters, the rearview mirror, handles and sun visors have also been updated. Passengers sitting in the back traditionally receive a large supply of free space both in height and in the knee zone, and the appearance of an additional heater and heated second-row seats makes the trip even more comfortable during cold weather. These options are included in the so-called "winter package", which also includes heated front seats (if not provided by the complete set), heated windshield, high-capacity battery. It can be stated unequivocally that the interior design of the new UAZ Patriot 2014 has improved in quality due to the latest updates. The cabin is now more comfortable and extraneous noise does not penetrate here so easily. Added to all this is a super-roomy trunk with a volume of 960 liters - that's where the Russian SUV definitely has no competitors.

As for the line of power units, everything here remains the same. The base is a 2.7-liter gasoline engine with 128 hp. and a maximum torque of 210 N * m, achieved at 2500 rpm. The second available powerplant is a 113-horsepower 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel capable of generating 270 Nm of torque in the 1800-2800 rpm range. For the modification with a gasoline engine, the maximum speed limit is set at around 150 km / h, for the version with a diesel engine - 135 km / h. The weight of the cars also differs - the diesel UAZ Patriot weighs 40 kg more than its gasoline counterpart, namely 2165 kg. Regardless of the type of power unit installed, the carrying capacity of the SUV is 525 kg.

The suspension of the new UAZ Patriot is fully dependent - at the front it is spring-loaded with an anti-roll bar, at the rear - on leaf springs. The gearbox is mechanical 5-speed from the same DYMOS company. Front disc brakes, rear - drum type. The steering is equipped with an Italian-made hydraulic booster.

As it became clear from the above, the new 2014 Patriot remains a classic rear-wheel drive car with the ability to rigidly connect the front axle, although there have been many talks about installing a permanent all-wheel drive. Nevertheless, the off-road potential of the brainchild of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant is still very high and allows you to easily overcome those road sections that will be beyond the power of many foreign analogues. This is largely due to the impressive ground clearance of 210 mm.

According to the latest information, the restyling was not the last, and the SUV will soon be updated again. In 2014, the electrical wiring will be modernized, and a year later the Patriot's appearance will undergo a serious revision. At the same time, an automatic transmission and a new 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine are expected. In 2016, the body of the SUV should be fully galvanized. The possibility of equipping the car with a monocoque body is also being considered, but this is already in the longer term.

To date, the price of the new UAZ Patriot 2014 model year with a new transfer case starts at 579,000 rubles. That is how much you will need to pay for a car in the Classic configuration with fabric upholstery and the following options: power windows for front and rear doors, power and heated side mirrors, immobilizer, audio preparation.

The Comfort configuration, which will cost 629,000 rubles, becomes available: 16-inch alloy wheels, side steps, fog lights, heated front seats, air conditioning, a 2-Din radio with 4 speakers.

The Limited version provides for a combined upholstery, installation of a block of LED running lights, and equipping the car with ABS and EBD systems. The price of the UAZ Patriot in this version will be 669,000 rubles.

There are also two more versions, equipped with special equipment - Trophy and Arctic. For adherents of the old transfer case, the Welcome version is provided, available at a price of 529,000 rubles. The winter package is already included in a number of trim levels, while its additional installation will cost from 25,000 rubles.

All prices are for versions with a gasoline engine. Installation of a diesel engine is possible in the Comfort, Limited and Trophy trim levels, which will add another 90,000 rubles to the cost of the SUV.

Since May 2014, a modern 9th generation Bosch ABS with functions EBD (brake force distribution system) and CPC (obstacle to the separation of the rear axle from the road). During braking, ABS prevents the wheel, which has the least grip, from locking up, thereby guaranteeing even tire wear. These changes provide a shorter braking distance and better handling of the car, while maintaining its directional stability and thereby significantly increasing the safety and comfort of the driver. Introduced digital multiplex system power package management. The control unit for power windows and mirrors has moved to the armrest of the driver's door. On the other doors, in the armrest area, there are also individual power window control buttons. This option allows the driver to easily adjust the height of the windows without being distracted from the traffic, and to drive the car as comfortably and safely as possible. The multiplex system is available on UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup vehicles in "Comfort" and "Limited" trim levels.

Patriot family cars got another function - "Polite Light"which adds convenience when closing doors. It works as follows: when the doors are opened, the light in the cabin is turned on, and after closing, it smoothly turns off after a while in theatrical style.

New radio tape recorder differs from the previous version in higher power and updated speakers. New power steering
From June 2014 on cars UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup install a new steering gear set and power steering hoses.
Complete with power steering, a hydraulic booster pump made under license famous German manufacturer ZF Lenksysteme... Thanks to his work, it was possible to ensure progressive steering drive characteristics. This means that as the vehicle speed increases, the steering effort increases, reducing the likelihood of steering errors. To increase the reliability of the system, a more stable version of their attachment to the mechanism and pump was used in the design of the new hoses. As a result of the joint work, the resource of the steering propeller shaft was significantly increased and defect excludedt of the knocking of the structure manifested during operation.
The introduced changes made it possible to improve the characteristics (settings) of the hydraulic booster, which were designed taking into account the peculiarities of UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup. The steering sensitivity, precision and information content are now much higher.
