Externally, the designers tried to combine the sporty character inherent in all Mazda models with the universal performance of an SUV.

This attempt was successful - neat, with smooth body lines and almost no strong transition from the front of the car to the windshield - CX 7 has sporty notes in design... A smooth transition is made from the roof to the stern of the crossover.

The front is rounded to the maximum. At the transition from bumper to hood, there is a radiator grill. Moreover, it is not significant in size and is covered with a coarse-mesh stylistic mesh. At some distance from the grille, diamond-shaped headlights were placed on the sides, the corners of which were also rounded.

The main place on the bumper is taken by a fairly overall air intake, decorated at the top with a chrome strip. The intake itself is covered with the same mesh as the grill. Three-section stylized niches were installed on the sides. Fog lights are located in the upper section, and the other two sections are reserved for additional air intakes. The bottom of the bumper is decorated with a small skirt with a protective strip.

The side parts of the car are notable only for the wide chrome edging of the side glazing, a small transition step in the lower part, and overlays to protect the sills.

The back is pretty interesting. There is a smooth transition from the roof to the almost vertical position of the tailgate bottom. The rear window top is decorated with a symbolic spoiler.

The bumper protrudes somewhat, but its corners are rather rounded. An interesting solution was the placement of brake light repeaters. They were installed on a protective strip below the bumper, at the level of the exhaust pipes.

In terms of dimensions, the CX 7 is quite a standard mid-size crossover. They are as follows:

Interior

The salon now looks somewhat outdated, but also unusual. The dashboard is presented in the form of three large wells. The central and left ones are reserved for analog sensors, and the right one is for the on-board computer. Moreover, its display is monochrome.

The center console body was set at a slight angle. At the top of it, under the visor, two small displays were placed. One is navigation, it is colored, the other is for displaying information on the operation of the audio system and climate system, it is monochrome.

Three deflectors were installed under the displays. Next comes a whole scattering of keys that control the climate and audio system. Only the gearshift lever and the parking brake lever are located on the central tunnel.

Specifications

The CX 7 crossover went on sale with several types of power units and transmissions. The technical characteristics of the power plants are different, the first in the range of power plants for the CX7 was a 2.2-liter turbodiesel with a power rating of 173 hp. The box with it was 6-speed, mechanical, and the drive was on both axles.

The most common was the 2.3-liter diesel unit. In a car that came with an automatic 6-speed gearbox, this unit developed 238 hp. Also, the CX 7 came with a motor of the same volume, but with "mechanics", also 6-speed, but this motor already produced 260 hp.

There was also a gasoline unit in the din. In terms of volume, it was the largest - 2.5 liters, but its power was only 163 hp, since it was atmospheric. Also with this motor there was an automatic machine for 5 ranges, and the drive was front.

With a sporty exterior, Mazda's crossover didn't have that character. Its speed and dynamic performance was mediocre.

Configuration and price

Mazda CX7 came to dealers in several trim levels. They meant different technical equipment, but there was also a set of equipment, which was basic and all cars were equipped with it. This kit included:

  • systems (ABS, TCS, EBD);
  • cruise control;
  • steering wheel with leather trim and multifunction;
  • heated and adjustable seats (front);
  • audio system;
  • rain sensor;
  • package of airbags.

Although the CX 7 crossover had several power plants and transmissions, it came to us only with a certain filling and trim levels.

So, we only had modifications with a 2.3 liter diesel engine and automatic transmission, as well as with a gasoline installation. There were two complete sets for them: "Sport" and "Touring".

The diesel crossover was priced at 1,334-1,479 thousand rubles. Gasoline was cheaper - 1,184 thousand rubles.

Although the car is not produced, its owners continue to operate. And they note that the CX 7 has excellent handling, fairly responsive motors, and a good flow rate.

The disadvantages of CX 7, they include inadequate equipment of the car, such as an electric trunk drive, the lack of additional lighting in some places. It is also noted that the crossover is poorly prepared in terms of sound insulation.

A few facts from the biography of this Japanese mid-size crossover: January 2006 - the premiere at the Los Angeles auto show, February 2009 - the presentation of the updated Mazda CX-7 2010 model year in Toronto (for the North American market), the European premiere of the restyled CX-7 took place at the Geneva Auto Show a month later.

The second row will comfortably accommodate two passengers, three will be cramped. The luggage compartment in the stowed state intervenes only 455 liters, the trunk is narrow and long with a large loading height, the folding seats are designed to increase its volume. The quality of the materials used is getting better from year to year, however ... the plastics, although textured, are tough and sonorous.

The initial "Touring" equipment is equipped with enough rich: climate control, central locking, power windows, electric mirrors and heated front seats, trip computer, radio with CD / MP3.

Specifications and test drive. Mazda CX-7 is equipped with two gasoline engines (as often happens - the diesel version is not officially imported to us) 2.3 l turbo (238 hp) with 6-automatic transmission and 2.5 l. (163 hp) with a 5-automatic transmission.
The proximity of the American premiere promises the imminent appearance of a less expensive front-wheel drive Mazda CX-7 on the Russian market. According to the list of technical characteristics, the all-wheel drive Mazda CX-7 with its younger sister, all-wheel drive, differ only in different motors, gearboxes and drive type, otherwise they are "twins". But in reality, there is a whole chasm between the machines. The CX-7 with a powerful turbocharged engine demonstrates excellent dynamics (8.3 seconds to "hundreds"), the engine has enough thrust (torque 350 Nm), handling, cornering, straight-line stability - everything is at a high level. The front-wheel drive Mazda CX-7 with an atmospheric 2.5-liter engine is suitable for a leisurely driver, for whom sharp acceleration, high-speed taxiing and high top speed are far from the first places in the assessment of the car. The car clearly lacks the power and traction of the engine (the torque is only 205 Nm), the acceleration is "sluggish" (10.3 seconds, and it feels even more). Although in unhurried city traffic everything seems to be fine, but once you go to the highway and ... before overtaking you need to accurately calculate the distance, the pilot presses the accelerator pedal, the machine shifts down several gears and nothing happens. For a crossover weighing more than two tons, the motor is 163 hp. clearly insufficient. This car was created for the Yankees, who, as you know, like to show off, don't drive fast on highways, and they don't have sharp turns.

The increase in length, on the one hand, made the crossover somewhat more impressive, but on the other hand, it made it difficult to perform some maneuvers. At the same time, the additional length of the Mazda CX-7 after restyling had a good effect on its internal dimensions. But this will be discussed below.

Dimensions inside

"Seven" rightfully belongs to the class of mid-size crossovers. In her salon, five quite large adult men can comfortably sit. So, the distance from the front cushion to the ceiling is from 91 to 96 cm, from the rear seat cushion to the ceiling a good 97 cm remains. Evaluating the dimensions of the "seven", many experts pay attention to the good height of its ground clearance, roomy luggage compartment and spacious interior. Despite the fact that this car does not belong to the range of SUVs and pickups, it can be used for transporting goods and moving on poor road surfaces.

But at the same time, it retains its functionality in urban conditions, where it fits perfectly into the width of the parking space and allows you to vary among the dense traffic of cars. And if you take into account the good technical characteristics and corporate design of Mazda, it is quite possible to make a choice in favor of this model.

The Mazda CX-7 car produced by the well-known Japanese company belongs to the segment of mid-size crossovers. The car was first shown in early 2006 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and was a production version of the MX-Crossport concept. Interior dimensions

The generous length of the CX-7 provides a fairly spacious cabin that is not only comfortable, but also good in capacity. Moreover, the dimensions of the interior of the car are ideally complemented by a large number of compartments for small items - from the 5.4-liter glove compartment between the seats to the glove compartment in front of the front row passenger and compartments in the backrests where cards or documents can be stored.


However, despite the dimensions of the Mazda CX 7, only four can comfortably fit in it - that is, the driver and 3 passengers. After all, the back of the model, which is distinguished by a large volume for its class, is equipped with a sofa that is not very suitable for three adults. There is little space at shoulder level, which creates additional inconvenience when trying to go on a long trip with five people.

Luggage compartment

The spacious trunk provides stowage of loads up to 1 m long. With the seats folded down, this value grows to 1.76 m. The transformation process is simple. It is enough just to pull on the special handles inside the compartment - and the volume will increase from 455 to 774 liters.


The dimensions of the trunk allow you to fit a couple of small seats in it. However, the manufacturer refused such a technical solution and preferred a roomy trunk to additional seats. Although its size could be even larger, it also contains a full-size spare wheel.
