TagAZ is a major Russian car manufacturer. The main plant is located in the city of Taganrog. The enterprise started its work quite recently - in 1998. Its production capacity was planned to cope with the production of 180,000 vehicles per year. The first significant step in the development of this brand was the start of joint work with the Korean concern Hyundai. The result of the cooperation was the first Hyundai Accent cars, which the world saw in 2001. Three years later, the company mastered the production of the Hyundai Sonata business-class sedan. In 2007, the production of the Hyundai Santa Fe Classic crossover begins, and a year later - the Hyundai Elantra XD, a C-class sedan. In addition, the direction of the production of commercial vehicles gradually developed. To date, the range of machines produced at the plant has expanded even more. TagAZ still assembles several Hyundai models, as well as its "own" models of SUVs and passenger cars, which are also licensed and previously produced in Korea under the SsangYong brand and in China under the Chery brand.

Preparing this material was more difficult than usual: most of the official dealers of TagAZ took up a perimeter defense, not wanting to share information. But you can't hide an sewn in a sack - all Tager's ailments are well known and are actively discussed on the Internet. Both the Korando and the Tager are built on proven Mercedes units and really look like two peas in a pod. But not from the point of view of reliability, which we will talk about today.

TRANSITIONAL PERIOD

The most painful topic for owners of "taggers", known from the very beginning of the production of the model, that is, since 2008, is the useless reliability of a manual transmission on cars with gasoline engines ( ZR, 2010, No. 8 ). It is often unsafe to drive with such a box.

For example, if you need to shift to a lower gear in order to slow down the engine, you will be faced with a difficult task: the lever will rest against an invisible obstacle due to the difference in shaft revolutions, which is due to a synchronizer that does not cope with its duties, more often the second or third gear. If you still manage to turn on the gear, the unpleasant crunch emitted by the box discourages the desire to even touch the lever. It is easier for those who own the old techniques - rebasing and double squeezing the clutch, but mastering them on a modern car, bought for a lot of money, is hardly acceptable.

The owners demanded that the dealers replace the unit. And they were not ready. But the dealers, TagAZ itself was in a difficult situation: the plant had to allocate a separate workshop, where in the first nine months 183 failed boxes were repaired - almost every fifth! We changed the synchronizers of the second, third and fourth gears assembled with clutches, but often this did not help: the repaired unit soon began to crackle again.

Some owners changed the box four to five times! Meanwhile, TagAZ, not coping with the repair, came up with the idea of \u200b\u200bdepriving the owners of the warranty due to the allegedly improper operation of the car: they say, you should not change gears at speeds above five thousand. But there are no such restrictions in the operating manual, so the case sometimes went to court. As a rule, the decisions were in favor of the owners - of course, at the cost of frayed nerves. For the sake of fairness, we note that the plant recognized the defect as massive and even publicly apologized to the owners.

After all, TagAZ was also held hostage to the current situation, since SunYong concealed the scale of the problem and was not in a hurry to resolve it. It seems that the agreement between the enterprises did not provide for any sanctions in case of delivery of defective parts. The Koreans took advantage of this: according to rumors, to reduce costs, they moved the production of some units, including transmissions, to China. An indirect confirmation of these rumors is the fact that the Korean marking has disappeared from the crankcase.

As it turned out later, it was not only the synchronizers, but also the misalignment of the shafts. They learned how to fix this defect at one of the firms in Yekaterinburg. There, they remove all the filling from the box and, after collecting the crankcase parts, process the bearing beds in one transition. And to fix the outer ring with an interference fit, additional bushings are pressed into the bed. And only then new couplings and synchronizers are installed. There are no complaints about the gearboxes brought in this way, but not every owner is ready to go for repairs thousands of kilometers.

ADVENTURE ELECTRONICS

With the arrival of autumn 2008, other difficulties began: at temperatures slightly below zero, the Tager's gasoline engine could only be started from the fifth or sixth attempt. By the way, there was no such problem on Korando. It turned out that the Koreans, adapting the program of the control unit to our climate and gasoline, made a slight mistake with the settings: due to a short pulse to the injectors, the mixture was too poor.

The defect was eliminated by changing the fuel characteristic parameter from one to four and adjusting the temperature coefficient. The blocks were reflashed for free, under warranty. There was just one catch: not every dealer had the equipment they needed. On the first "taggers" in the T5 configuration, the engine cooling fan was constantly working. This defect was dealt with quickly enough - it turned out that it was necessary to swap contacts. By the way, the dealer network of TagAZ is also his sore spot. There are cases when, when installing additional equipment at branded service stations, they managed to undermine the squibs of the seat belt pretensioners. TagAZ even had to terminate contracts with some sellers.

HOMELAND WILL HELP

All these problems have tempered the owners, and now they are actively discussing on the Web which domestic counterparts are suitable instead of the capricious original. Some SUVs already have UAZ springs working in the rear suspension, which are slightly stiffer than their relatives, thanks to which it was possible to raise the rear part of the body by 55 mm (this became a good help on the off-road).

To have enough shock absorbers rebound stroke, they are replaced with "Volgov" ones. It is only important to remember that the carrying capacity of the machine does not increase from this. It's a pity that no adequate replacement has yet been found for the factory rear axle semiaxes, which, it seems, are also Chinese - with a decent "egg" in the area of \u200b\u200bthe oil seal working surface. Therefore, oil leakage to the brakes after 20 thousand km is a common thing. Moreover, there are practically no original semi-axles on sale, and if they are, then they are three times more expensive than usual.

There are no particular problems with engines. True, here too TagAZ distinguished itself: if the turbocharger served quite reliably on the Korean "SanYong-Korando" with a diesel engine of the OM662 series, then on the "Tager" it sometimes leaks oil. The defect did not become widespread, but where did it come from on a seemingly worked-out design? Apparently, the unknown origin of the unit again affects, this time the turbine.

There is one more defect on five-door "taggers": by 50-80 thousand km the rear wiper axle may acidify. We recommend at the first sign, when the brush begins to crush on the glass, disassemble and lubricate. More serious problems also happen.

By a car that visited our editorial office a year ago ( ZR, 2010, No. 6 ), cracks were found in the frame in the area of \u200b\u200bthe rear left suspension arm. The fact that the bearing part did not break in half is the merit of our test group, which discovered the defect in time. But everything could have ended sadly! There are no other complaints about the chassis.

Perhaps, only the front stabilizer struts are recognized as relatively weak - if you please change them after 40-50 thousand km. Ball joints, silent blocks, tie rods and tips sometimes serve more than 180 thousand km. With wheel bearings, how lucky. The spread over the resource is in order: from 20 to 200 thousand km. Here, by the way, Chinese components are superior to Korean ones.

Both "Korando" and "Tager" cannot be called full-fledged heroes of this column, since the first is already old, and the second is too young. Therefore, we present the third table without the traditional calculation of the cost of costs per kilometer of run ( ZR, 2011, No. 1 ). These machines go beyond the accepted methodology, we decided to talk about them only out of a desire to draw the attention of manufacturers to the need for a more competent choice of models for our market. So that simplified technologies do not undermine consumer confidence in the long-known model.

So, I became the proud owner of the TagAZ Tiger for 529 thousand rubles. Of course, I didn't expect much comfort for that kind of money. The first impression is that there is no sound insulation in the car at all, especially under the rear sofa, in the cabin you can hear the muffler rumble. When I folded down the back row of seats and lifted up the carpet, there was bare metal. Pre-sale preparation, as I understand it, is not done at all, the sun visors immediately fell off and the rear door lock was unscrewed, in general, the interior was all promoted, but, surprisingly, the chassis was tightened normally. The engine of the first 2 thousand also worked noisy, but after changing the oil it became quieter. Of course, 150 hp. not enough for this weight, but enough for the city. At first, the consumption for TagAZ Tager scared me - 16 liters per "hundred" (instead of 13.8 according to the passport), now (after about 5 thousand mileage) it dropped to 13 liters with a quiet ride on the rear wheel drive. The front axle is connected on the move up to 70 km / h, the car immediately becomes dumber, but it rides through the snow like a tank. The car is quite tough, especially on speed bumps. The faster you jump through them, the softer. On the track it behaves like a regular "frame", in a straight line it walks rooted to the spot, but "no maneuverability", accelerated 160 on the speedometer. Probably more will go, but it becomes somehow uncomfortable, the optimal speed is 110-120 km / h ... Consumption at this speed is about 10 liters. I drive 92 gasoline, I tried 95 - no difference, only more consumption. TagAZ Tager starts up in any frost without problems the first time, oil 5w40 "synthetic", in bridges and a box with a "razdatka" after running-in, also filled "synthetics". The permeability is good, especially in low gear, but the ground clearance is small (195) and the car is quite heavy, so you can easily sit on your belly, but if you don't rush into battle for UAZs and Nivs with normal tires, then it's normal. Front visibility is good, the mirrors would be bigger, but nothing, but when driving backwards only on the mirrors, the wide rear pillars and the spare wheel on the fifth door block everything. The interior of the TagAZ Tager, of course, is cramped, especially in the back. My height is 178, I'm comfortable behind the wheel, but when I sit down, my knees are right behind me, whoever is taller will be cramped behind. The headlight of the car is good, I have enough, I want xenon, but I don’t dare yet, I’m afraid that the oncoming ones will dazzle. There is only one breakdown so far, but I was ready for it even before the purchase (I read it in the reviews): after 3 thousand mileage, the box crunched, especially on a cold one, now I'm waiting for a repair under warranty. That, for now, seems to be all.

Advantages : unpretentious. Repairable in almost any conditions. And most importantly, we don't steal at all.

I recently bought TagAZ Tager. What's on board: 3.2-liter in-line "six" from "Mercedes" (licensed from Korea), automatic 4-mortar, permanent rear-wheel drive, plug-in front end, "lower". Liked: the suspension is very knocked down, but not "goat", the habits are purely frame, but the car feels very coherent. I didn't find a place for myself right away, but after I found it, nothing needs to be regulated. The main car I have is a new "Chevrlee Tahoe" 5.3, so there is something to compare with. Native tires - "none", replaced by Nokian, I drive on a rear wheel drive, although the roads are clearly not asphalt. All-wheel drive on TagAZ Tager is connected instantly and really helps. Thanks to the power of the motor, the controls are fun. The landing is very high, without the footboard it would be a disaster. The ground clearance is sufficient for moving on snow drifts and curbs. But one trouble has already happened and I don't know whose "joint". Either factory workers, or "servicemen". When going through MOT, the mechanic turned me over, as fluid appeared from the box on the engine protection. When buying, I was convinced that the pre-sale preparation was carried out. It turned out that the nut of the machine's liquid cooling line was not tightened, and from there the “legs grow”. The most interesting thing further, we could not immediately determine the level of the liquid, since there is no dipstick in the box. Tomorrow I'll go and hear what the guys have to say to me about this. Hence the summary - after the purchase, stretch everything out on your own or on an intelligent service. To be fair, I will note our "service workers", they did not drag out for a long time, responded very quickly, contacted the plant, without unnecessary verbiage took the car to correct the shortcomings. Yes, the doors close the second time, you need to adjust. The instructions contain a key fob for controlling the alarm system with a central locking, in reality - only the central locking, and set the alarm as an additional equipment. At a temperature of -29 outside, it wound up half-turn and really warmed up in 7-10 minutes. Heated seats are working properly. A car for fun and active pastime.

I own TagAZ Tager for a little over 2 years. Mileage 149 thousand km, deliberately chose. What was needed was a real "honest" frame jeep for reasonable money, taking into account the large runs on roads with different surfaces. TagAZ Tager completely justified itself, and fulfilled all my expectations. Now I don't even know what to change for. He promised to give this car to his father-in-law. From operating experience: I never got stuck so that I myself could not leave, a couple of times I had to lower the tires to 0.7 atmospheres, and then I slowly got out on the virgin soil. I had to pull out of the snow and mud "Mitsubishi Pajero 4" and "Patrol". There are no complaints about the patency of the TagAZ Tager, with a head on the shoulders. The suspension is reliable. For the first time I changed ball and steering tips for 140 thousand. And that's all. Then I changed the candles for the first time. Exactly at 70 thousand km the clutch "dies". Very predictable. I changed it twice. That's all. I refused an authorized service after the first MOT. They forgot the glove in the duct to the injector. Left after MOT on the road, gasped and stalled. On the "tie" 100 meters back, 3 hours of consultation, dismantling half of the engine and eventually finding a forgotten glove in the injector. Both laughter and sin, after that only the replacement of "consumables" in a local adequate service for very little money (on average 5-7 thousand per 10 thousand km with the cost of oil and "consumables") up to 140 thousand, when there was complete shaking up the car for 21 thousand rubles with work. I drive fast on bad roads. I don’t regret the car. "More speed - fewer holes." The machine forgives everything.

Impressions and operation. On the road, TagAZ Tager stands quite confidently, but the influence of the frame and torsion bar suspension and a short base affects - it swallows large potholes with a bang, but it does not cope very well with small joints, a bunch of patches and various joints, it shakes. Nevertheless, I prefer to drive on the TagAZ Tager on the highway: you sit high - you look far away, there is always enough power reserve. All the way you drive 110-120 (so that there is no excess more than 60) and is always sure that there is enough dynamics for overtaking. TagAZ Tager has good headlights (especially if you use foglights), but they say that on cars of 2008, where the headlights are glass and corrugated, the light is simply disgusting. Compared to Elantra (there really are headlights shine disgustingly), as if the locomotive searchlights were turned on. The cross-country ability of the car is good, with a small elevator it rises significantly, but I don't need this - again, I'm not a fan of dirt, I just like to ride a car higher and have four-wheel drive. In the car there is a Part-time transmission, "lowering", a self-locking rear differential. There is air conditioning, power steering, fog lights, electric windows, heated electric mirrors, heated front seats, music, on-board computer multitronics, ABS, EBD. The salon is quite spacious, especially after the Niva and Vaz 2114, but tall people do not always have enough adjustment of the front seats. Gasoline calmly digests AI-92, tried to fill in 95 - I did not notice the difference at all, either in consumption or in dynamics. Consumption, like everyone else, depends on the driving style, warming up - in the winter on the rear wheel drive highway / city 16.5 liters (tank volume 70 liters). If you go along the highway 110-120, the consumption is in the region of 12.5 liters, then +1 liters for every 10 km / h, if you roll 80-90, then you can keep within 11. Maintenance does not cause problems: consumables are always in stock.

Nice car. During the tenure of TagAZ, Tager never regretted that he took it. The engine is simple and reliable, high-torque. The first gear is quite short, when starting off, it requires you to immediately turn on the second, or even get under way from the second gear. I practically do not turn on the lowered row. I installed mechanical hubs on the front axle, and the problems with engaging the front axle disappeared (8-9 thousand rubles). There were no problems with the box, I just turn on the gears at rpm 1500 - 2000, the box starts to crunch higher when shifting. I put UAZ springs back - the car rose by 5 cm, and pulled up the torsion bars. Put the protection. I change the oil after 10,000 km. There was a problem with the fuel equipment, everything was done in a service specializing in diesel engines. I stopped going to the officials after 30,000 km, when the warranty ended. There are no problems with consumables, now there are so many proposals that only the lazy roars about the lack of spare parts. TagAZ Tager starts up well in summer and winter. By winter, I change the oil to a more fluid one, for example ZIK 5W40 semi-synthetics, it goes into the 8 liter engine. The high-pressure fuel pump on it loves good diesel fuel, from the "left" and unknown quality happens "obstruction" of the fuel. Recently I changed the front crankshaft oil seal, everything is quite simple, but you need an assistant to unscrew and then tighten the nut that secures the pulley to the crankshaft.

I travel a lot on my TagAZ Tager, not only that every Monday I fly from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod (140 - 150 km / h always, consumption 15 liters), and on Friday back to Moscow, so I can still go from Nizhny to Saratov ( 700 km), from there immediately to Ulyanovsk (500 km) and the next day to Moscow. The car never let me down, once the check caught fire, it turned out that the wiring to the air temperature sensor had come off. The only nuisance for 100,000, not counting childhood diseases, which were eliminated for free for me: firmware, gearbox. The most "thrill" is that after a mileage of 100,000 km nothing changed in the TagAZ Tager suspension. Yes, yes, no steering ends, no oil seals, no ball, no bearings. No, I do not "forget" for service, every T.O. the whole car is diagnosed. Here is the Russian assembly for you. Maybe I have little experience (29 years, 10 years behind the wheel), but I have never heard such a thing from anyone, about any brand or model. There are no crickets in the cabin, nothing rattles, does not howl, does not eat oil (at all). Nothing falls off, does not heat up, does not whistle. For the anniversary I bought my TagAZ Tager 2 -DIN a Sony radio tape recorder - the music in the car is always good.

Overall, I was pleased with the car. Almost immediately after the salon, I put winter studded tires a little less than the standard diameter, 215x70xR16. Average gas mileage ("by receipts" and mileage) from December to April (running in) was 13.5 l / 100 km. Gasoline was poured into the 92nd. I am satisfied with the flow rate, but now, after running-in and "in the summer", it should be less, 11-12 liters / 100 km, I hope. TagAZ Tager keeps the road very well. But on the snow-covered asphalt, with the front end turned off, at the harsh start one can feel a "tendency to skid", even on winter studding. On relatively small winter wheels, a car in snowdrifts requires additional "body movements" back and forth when slipping. Although I never had to take out a shovel, under the same conditions, for example, the VAZ-21214 on good rubber was easier for me. Perhaps this is because of the mediocre rubber, and because of the decent mass of TagAZ Tager (many, I know, lift and put high tires with a good "pattern" - this removes all doubts about the Tager's patency). I will add that, with all this, all the drive switching modes worked reliably. In addition to driving performance, which I wrote about, everything else in the car completely suits me - the interior, exterior, ergonomics, equipment, etc. Of the minuses: like all Taggers, the doors, with a very large swing when closing and slamming, play back and do not fully slam. The car is "dirty" due to poor aerodynamics.
