The Korean analogue of Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and in fact "American" to the bone, Kia Mohave is an absolutely niche product on the Russian market. And how can he not be a niche if this is a huge seven-seater frame SUV with a diesel engine, the design of which is high time to change in order to please the modern trends in the auto industry? Design
The surviving restyling Mohave, which, as you might guess from the name, was originally developed for the North American market, seems as boring as its predecessor, and there is hardly anyone who will gasp with surprise and delight when he sees it on the road. There is still nothing remarkable in the exterior of the large Kia Motors SUV - it is still a "workhorse" and nothing more. But the "horse" has updated bumpers, a radiator grille and 18-inch wheel rims, as well as LED running lights over the fog lights. The new chrome grille doesn't really stand out, and neither does the head optics around the edges. With two folded rows of seats, this volume reaches 2.7 cubic meters, which, taking into account the flat floor, allows you to easily organize full-fledged sleeping places. There was no electric drive at the tailgate, and it is not (only a conventional door closer is provided), and the opening is low for people whose height exceeds 180 cm.
Design
The foundation of the restyled version of Mohave is the old frame structure: in front of it there is a suspension on double levers, and in the back there is a multi-link. For a surcharge, a rear air suspension is offered (and a self-locking rear limited slip differential), but it should be borne in mind that on harsh off-road conditions it will be of little use, since the design of the SUV differs in crossover habits, and the clearance of the crossover model is only 195 mm, although the manufacturer claims that under the bottom as much as 217 mm. For serious driving on rough terrain, the clearance is frankly modest.
Adaptation to Russian conditions
Mohave 2017 model year is definitely an option for the city and light off-road, and not for extreme Russian conditions, even despite the presence of a frame and all-wheel drive. It is not ideally prepared for operation in Russia, but it is not bad either: it has an 82-liter fuel tank with steel protection and a jack hidden in an organizer under the floor of the cargo compartment, as well as a full-size spare wheel, a panic button for calling emergency services in case of an Era -Glonass ", stabilization system, assistant at the start uphill and separate climate control. Comfort
The Mohave's salon is spacious in American style, you can't say anything about it. Of the innovations in the interior, there is a leather multifunction steering wheel with a wooden insert and an electric adjustment for height / reach, a more thoughtful dashboard with a classic layout and a large eight-inch touchscreen of the multimedia complex. The left spoke of the steering wheel, unfortunately, somewhat overlaps the control unit for the all-wheel drive transmission, the suspension and the stability control system - you have to press the buttons and turn the "puck" by touch or momentarily distract from the road to see what is where. The headlight washer button is also not well located.
The layout of the climate control unit (3 zones) is logical and understandable, climate control is available already in the initial configuration. Automatic windows went only to the front doors, and the manufacturer decided to save money on the rear ones. On the ceiling there are air ducts, a shade of illumination, visors for protection from the sun with a retractable section and an electric sunroof (the hatch is in the top version). The front seats may not boast a perfect fit, but you get used to them quickly. Driver's seat - with lumbar support adjustment. For the first time, perforated Nappa quilted leather has been used to trim the seats of an SUV - although this is the privilege of the most expensive Premium variant, as well as an armrest with a cooled drinks box.
