- New fluid;
- Rubber or regular gloves;

- Place the machine on a lift or jack up the front;

- Prepare a container for used oil;

- Turn the steering wheel in different directions until it stops 2 - 3 times;
- The power unit does not need to be started at this stage;
- Remove the empty tank and rinse well;
The expansion tank contains a filter for cleaning the liquid. It should be removed and replaced with a new filter. At this stage, the drainage of the power steering fluid from the UAZ Patriot has been successfully completed.
The replacement of the fluid in the power steering of the UAZ Patriot is being completed with the addition of new oil:
- After installing the expansion tank in place, fill in new oil with a syringe;
- Turn the steering wheel to the right and left until it stops when the engine is not running, constantly adding oil to the tank;

- Assemble the power steering system;

- To eliminate the load on the steering system, the machine must be suspended during pumping;
- The average oil change volume is 1.2 liters;

The UAZ Patriot SUV is a car that is not afraid of dirt, off-road, rough terrain and even water bodies. But for the convenience of driving, the design has a steering wheel with its own mechanism. The SUV is equipped with high-quality filters from the factory, so when you replace it for the first time, do not rush to throw this device away and look for the marking or name on it. Often the filter has a number, in some cases, and the name of the organization that made it. If, when purchasing a new filter, you do not find either the number or the name of the device, then it is better not to take such a filter. Pump
And, of course, the pump, which plays an important role. The pump is the main unit that generates hydraulic force, thus making it easier for the driver to drive. The SUV UAZ Patriot 3163 has a pump, which, in turn, has a catalog number: 3163-3407010. It is the pump with this number that must be installed on the SUV.
If the power steering pump fails and its repair is impossible, that is, the integrity of the device case is violated, then its replacement is required. Oil and its replacement
The oil in the power steering system is an important element that actually creates pressure, making it easier to turn the steering wheel. Periodically, it must be replaced on any car. The car's manual says that it needs to be changed every 100,000 km. To change the oil in the hydraulic booster, you can use the transmission option, since it is best suited for the pump. This will require more than one liter of oil, so it's best to buy 2 liters right away. Oil change on the UAZ Patriot SUV consists of the following steps: 
- First you need to hang up the front wheels and remove the front mudguard, if any.
- Further, the fastening clamp of the oil tank is loosened.
- By tilting the tank, the oil is drained into the container. You can use a syringe.
- The discharge hose (return line) is disconnected from the tank, which is lowered into the container for draining the mining, now we turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times (2-3). You don't need to start the engine yet.
- The tank is now empty, it is recommended to remove and rinse it. It also contains a filter that must be replaced, so it must be replaced with a new one.
- The next step: pour new material into the tank, turn the steering wheel again from lock to lock without starting the engine. Make sure that there is always oil in the tank.
- First, dark old oil will come out of the drain hose in the container. When it brightens (after draining 500-700, we stop pumping), we collect the entire system back.
- After assembly, you need to start the engine and turn the steering wheel. Then add liquid again to the level.
This completes the replacement, but there are some nuances.
Servicing the power steering system of the UAZ Hunter consists in checking the tension of the pump drive belt, checking the tightness of the hoses and their connections, checking for leaks in the seals, checking the working fluid level and replacing it with the power steering reservoir filter.
If the hoses of the power steering are damaged and there is no working fluid in the system, it is necessary to remove the pump drive belt, otherwise it may jam and break the belt. With the pump drive belt removed, it is necessary to monitor the coolant temperature, as it may overheat. Prolonged operation of the vehicle with an inoperative hydraulic booster leads to premature wear of the steering mechanism.
When checking the hydraulic fluid level in the power steering reservoir, the front wheels of the vehicle should be straight. If necessary, the working fluid must be topped up to the level of the tank filler mesh or higher, but not more than 5 mm. Dexron IID or Dexron III transmission fluid is used as a working fluid. Dexron III can be mixed with Dexron II. The volume of the liquid to be poured is 1.1 liters.

According to the plant's recommendations, since 2015, the replacement of the working fluid and the filter in the power steering reservoir is carried out every 45,000 km. mileage or 3 years of operation, whichever comes first, or after repair of the steering mechanism. However, if the fluid in the reservoir is very dirty or darkened, then it should be replaced earlier. Replace the working fluid and filter in the power steering system in the following order:
1. The front of the vehicle is lifted and supported so that the front wheels do not touch the ground.
2. Remove the cover from the power steering reservoir and remove the filler mesh. The old fluid is first pumped out of the reservoir, for example with a syringe or a rubber bulb, and then its residues are drained from the disconnected fluid return hose to the reservoir. In the process of draining, it is necessary to turn the steering wheel alternately in both directions until it stops.
3. To replace the power steering filter, catalog number 4310-3407359-10, it is necessary to remove the cotter pin from the axle, remove the washer, pressure spring, rubber sealing sleeve, remove the old filter element from the tank.
4. Before installing a new filter, you must first clean the inner surfaces of the tank from dirt and deposits, and then install it in the reverse order of removal.
5. After installing a new filter, liquid is poured into the tank until it appears above the filler mesh. Then, without starting the engine, the steering wheel turns several times from lock to lock, until the end of the exit of air bubbles. The liquid is topped up to the level.
6. Now you need to start the engine. If the liquid in the tank starts to foam, then there is air in the system. In this case, the engine must be turned off and the transmission fluid must be allowed to settle for at least 20 minutes or until air bubbles stop leaving it.
7. After that, to completely remove the air remaining in the system, the engine is restarted, the steering wheel turns from lock to lock, without holding it in extreme positions, three times in each direction.
8. After stopping the engine, it is necessary to inspect the places where the hoses are connected to the units of the hydraulic booster system for leaks and, if there is, eliminate it. If necessary, the liquid is added to the tank to the level and it is closed with a lid.

With normal tension of the drive belt, its deflection in the middle when a force of 4 kgf is applied should be:
- For the UAZ-31519 model with the UMZ-421 engine: 10-13 millimeters.
- For the UAZ-315195 model with the ZMZ-409 engine: 10-15 millimeters.
- For the UAZ-315148 model with the ZMZ-5143 engine: 8-12 millimeters.
The size of the power steering pump drive belt for the UAZ Hunter with the ZMZ-409 engine is 1195 mm. The accuracy of the belt tension adjustment directly affects its service life and the service life of the unit bearings. The pump drive belt is tensioned by moving the power steering pump along the bracket for its attachment to the engine.
The drive belt is replaced with a new one if it is excessively stretched or if:
- Traces of wear, cracks, cuts, folds, peeling, indentations or bulges on the belt surface.
- Loss or delamination on the end surfaces of the belt.
- Traces of oil on the belt surface.
A belt with traces of engine oil on any of its surfaces must be replaced, as oil quickly destroys rubber. At the same time, it is necessary to eliminate the cause of the oil getting on the belt.

- Remove the steering gear.
- Fix the steering box in a vise so that the drain and drain holes (holes under the fittings) are at the base.
- Drain the oil from the mechanism by turning the rotor 34 (picture 1) or the spool roll by hand.
- Press your hand on the rotor or the spool shaft along the axis and shake the bipod 25 (see Fig. 1).
- If there is axial displacement of the rotor or the spool shaft, it is necessary to
adjust thrust bearings 4 and 11.
- To adjust the thrust bearings with beard and hammer, straighten the cup ball 3, which is sealed in the grooves in the crankcase wall.
- Remove the gap by turning the glass or nut clockwise.
- Check the torque of the rotor or spool shaft in the thrust bearings, it should be 2 Nm (0.2 kg / cm).
- If a gap is felt in the middle position of the UAZ-315195, UAZ-31519 bipod shaft when you swing on the bipod, adjust the gear by turning the nut 26 and removing the bipod.
- Remove the top and bottom covers 27 and 33.
- Remove circlip 28 and spacers 29. Loosen the lock nuts and loosen the lock bolts 26 with two or three turns.
- Align the gaskets 29.
- Rotating the support legs 30 with the backrest counterclockwise (as viewed from the spline end of the nipple shaft), remove the engagement gap.
- Adjust the position in the position of the bipod shaft UAZ-Hunter 315195, UAZ-31519, corresponding to the middle position of the tooth sector.
- Check the torque of the bipod, it should be within 35-45 Nm (3.5-4.5 kg / cm) when passing through the middle position.
- Install the adjusting washers 29 and circlip 28, bend one of the antennas in both adjusting washers into the groove of the bipod support shaft.
- Tighten the locking bolts and locknuts 25 with a torque of 8-10 Nm (0.8-1.0 kg / cm).
- Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
- Bleed air from the power steering system.

To do this, loosen the bolts securing the pump to the bracket, move the pump using the tensioning screw until the belt tension becomes normal and tighten the pump mounting bolts.

- Start the engine by adding oil to the tank.
- In the event of excessive foaming of the oil in the tank, which indicates that air has entered the system, the engine is muted and allows the oil to settle for at least 20 minutes (before air bubbles leave the oil).
- Inspect the hose connection points on the hydraulic system units UAZ-Hunter 315195, UAZ-31519 and, if necessary, eliminate the leaks.
- Let the engine run for 15-20 seconds and bleed the steering system with steering effort to remove residual air from the steering mechanism by turning the steering wheel from the lock until it stops, without stopping at the extreme positions, three times in each direction.
- Top up the oil tank if necessary.
- Close the tank with the lid and tighten the lid nut by hand.
- Attach the bipod rod, tighten and tighten the ball pin nut.

- Unscrew the safety valve seat, remove ball 4, guide 3 and spring 2. Remove the ring 8 and filter 7 from the safety valve seat.
- Rinse the parts and blow with compressed air.
- Reassemble in reverse order. Be careful when assembling.
- During disassembly and assembly, in order not to disturb the setting of the safety valve, do not change the number of shims 11.
UAZ Patriot is the hereditary representative of the legendary Russian off-road vehicles from a well-known manufacturer in the post-Soviet space. Is it time to change the oil?
Lubricating fluid is a fundamental component of the hydraulic booster system. It is with its help that the required pressure is created, on which the efficiency of the mechanism depends. Over time, the grease loses its condition and needs to be changed. The UAZ Patriot handbook speaks of such a need every 100 thousand km. Some owners use transmission fluids from renowned manufacturers for this purpose. These fluids have proven themselves quite well in the markets of many countries.

Power steering oil change.
- First of all, we hang out the front wheels and remove the motor protection.
- We look at the oil tank under the hood. On it we loosen the tightening torque of the clamp.
- This tank will need to be tilted. So we will drain the liquid from it. The corresponding syringe will facilitate the task.
- It's time to disconnect the fluid drain hose from the tank. It is also called "return line". We lower its edge into the drain container, while turning the steering wheel to a full eversion in both directions. We do this for three full turns.
- Remove the empty tank (recommended) and wash it inside. It contains a filter. We replace it with a new analogue.
- We take new oil in our hands and pour it into the washed and replaced tank. We ask the assistant to rotate the steering wheel in both directions until it stops during this process. The stronger and more agile the assistant, the less air will be in the system. We monitor the level in the tank - we constantly replenish it.
- Pay attention to the drain hose. At the beginning of the process, dark oil appears from it. With the course of the procedure, it brightens. This means that the new fluid "expels" the old oil into the power steering. This happens until about 700-800 ml. Now the system can be assembled back.
- We are convinced of the correctness of the assembly and start the "engine". We turn the steering wheel and add fluid to the required level.
Important! Do not start up the motor!

Consider the nuances
- When pumping the mechanism, the front wheels are in a suspended state. This way we minimize the load on the steering unit.
- The required volume of lubricant is 1.2 liters.
- When the fluid in the power steering has been changed, we lower the front of the UAZ Patriot and let the engine run at idle for about 15 minutes. We look at the level and at the connections in the backbone.
