2. Safety precautions while working with automatic transmissions

10. Replace all gaskets and rubber O-rings with new ones.
11. Do not use sealants on gaskets or similar parts.
12. Make sure the ends of the snap ring do not line up with any of the notches and are seated correctly in the groove.
13. When replacing a worn bushing, replace the subsystem containing that bushing as well.
14. Check the thrust bearings and their tracks for wear or damage. Replace if necessary.
15. Use Vaseline to hold the parts together.

2.1. Towing

In all cases, it is preferable to transport the vehicle on a platform or tow it with the front wheels hanging.
At the same time, in exceptional cases, it is allowed to tow the vehicle at a speed not exceeding 20 km / h and at a distance of not more than 30 km (the selector lever must be in the “N” position).

2.2. Applied oil

The automatic transmission DP0 is filled with oil for the entire period of operation. Therefore, the box is maintenance-free. In the case of small leaks, only oil is topped up.
Applied oil:
- ELF RENAULT MATIC D3 SYN standard DEXRON III.
Capacity:
- total volume 6 liters.

2.3. Oil draining

ATTENTION
On gearboxes with plugs of both versions, when changing and checking the oil level, be sure to put the selector lever in the "P" position.

The design of the drain and control plugs has been changed.
The procedure for draining and checking the oil level is the same for both plug options.
Hot oil (max. 60 ° C) should be drained from the automatic transmission to remove as much dirt as possible.
Place the vehicle on a lift.
Remove the engine undertray.

Two parts of the following purpose are sequentially screwed into the hole:
- control plug;
- drain tube.
To completely drain the oil from the transmission, remove both assemblies.

Remove:

Fill the transmission with oil and check the level.

3.1. Filling and Oil Level Checking Procedure

Monitor the temperature of the oil in the box.

Gearbox drain hole

Install the vessel, if oil does not flow out or the amount of leaked oil is less than 0.1 l - stop the engine.
Add 0.5 l of oil, let the gearbox cool down to 50 ° C and start the engine at idle speed.
Reconnect the diagnostic tool (CLIP) and enter into dialogue with the automatic transmission ECU.

When the temperature reaches 60 ° C ± 1, unscrew the control hole plug.
Place a container under the vehicle to collect the oil.
Repeat these operations until more than 0.1 l of oil has been poured into the container.
Tighten the inspection plug.
Tighten to the required torque (35 Nm) the control hole plug.

NOTE

In case of oil change, it is necessary to reset the electronic oil life counter (it is built into the ECU).

Record the oil change date by issuing command: CF074 Record Transmission Oil Change Date using the diagnostic tool (CLIP).

NOTE

In cases of repair work on the automatic transmission, the following parts must be replaced:
- self-locking nuts;
- sealing gaskets;
- rubber gaskets;
- torque converter mounting bolts.

4. Checking the lock-up of the torque converter


Raise the car until the wheels are off the floor by a few centimeters.
Connect a diagnostic tool (CLIP).
Enter into a dialogue with the automatic transmission ECU.
Watch the automatic transmission oil temperature parameter.
The check should be carried out at an oil temperature between 60 ° –80 ° C.
Start the engine, put the selector lever in position D.
Watch the engine speed. Enter the dialogue mode with the ECU.
Keeping the brake pedal depressed, press the accelerator pedal all the way down.
The front wheels must not turn.
ATTENTION
Do not hold the accelerator pedal fully depressed for more than 5 seconds. If this period of time is exceeded, the torque converter or the automatic transmission itself is highly likely to collapse.

Immediately after taking the measurement, release the accelerator pedal and continue to hold down the brake pedal until the engine speed stabilizes at idle (if this requirement is not followed, there is a risk of damage to the automatic transmission).
NOTE
For cars with a K4M engine, the crankshaft speed is set at 2700 ± 150 min – 1.
For vehicles with an F4R engine, the crankshaft speed is set at 2500 min – 1.

If the torque converter locks up when the engine speed is abnormal, replace the torque converter.
NOTE
Insufficient engine power may be the reason for the lockup of the torque converter at reduced engine speed.


5. Measurement of pressure in the discharge line

Necessary accessories and special tools:
- special device (Bvi. 1215-01);
- set for checking the oil pressure in the automatic transmission (in a case);
- pressure gauge for 25 bar.
Certain automatic transmission diagnostic procedures require you to measure the pressure in the pressure line with a pressure gauge.
The hole for connecting the test pressure gauge is located next to the pressure transducer.

Discharge opening:

To check the pressure in the discharge line, unscrew the screw of the discharge port.
Connect a test pressure gauge.
Carry out the check on a hot engine at a gearbox oil temperature of 60–80 ° C.
Check the oil pressure in the pressure line under the following conditions:
- the selector lever is in the "P" or "N" position, the engine crankshaft speed is 2000 min – 1. The pressure should be between 2.6–3.2 bar;
- the selector lever is in the "R" position, the engine crankshaft speed is 2000 min – 1. The pressure must be above 4 bar;
- the selector lever is in the “D” position, the engine crankshaft speed is 2000 min – 1. The pressure with 1st gear engaged must be above 7 bar.
If the problem persists, the cause is a mechanical or hydraulic problem in the transmission.
To determine the cause of the malfunction, check that all conditions and parameters are correct.

5.1. After troubleshooting

Delete the stored faults from the memory and move the card in the reader to the 1st fixed position.
Carry out a road test.
Finish the operation by checking with a diagnostic tool.

6. Removal and installation of the hydraulic valve

Place the vehicle on a 2 post lift.

Remove the battery cover.

While holding the lever, screw in the tool until it stops.

Remove the tool (Bvi. 1462). Install the arm bolt.
Tighten to the specified torque the arm mounting bolt (8 Nm).
In case of valve replacement, reset the self-tuning parameters using the command: RZ005 "Resetting the self-tuning parameters" and reset the automatic transmission oil life counter using the diagnostic tool by entering the command: CF074 "Record the transmission oil change date".
After executing command RZ005, be sure to drive with repeated transitions to higher and lower gears to enter new values ​​and settings into memory.
Tighten to torque:
- cover bolts (10 Nm);
- battery (40 Nm);
- amplifier mounting bolts (21 Nm).

8. Removal and installation of an automatic transmission
ATTENTION
Observe the following instructions to prevent breakage of the contact disc under the steering wheel:
- before disconnecting the steering shaft from the steering mechanism, be sure to block the steering wheel with a special device with the wheels set to the straight-ahead position, and the steering wheel must remain locked during the entire time of work;
- in case of any doubt about the correct centering of the contact disc, remove the steering wheel and center the contact disc.

8.1. Withdrawal
Place the vehicle on a 2 post lift.
Remove the top engine covers.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.
Remove:
- air intake pipe;
- storage battery;


- intake air duct;
- fixing the wiring harness.
Remove the multifunction switch cable ball using the tool and the cable itself.
Disconnect the wiring block from the speed sensor, wiring block by freeing the movable part of the connector and unscrew the bolts securing the modular connector bracket.

ATTENTION
Protect the connector by placing it in a waterproof plastic bag.

K4M engine crankshaft speed sensor

Pinch the hoses with clamps.
Disconnect the hoses from the cooler.
Remove the wiring harness from the transmission.

Starter mounting bolts:

Disconnect the wires from the ABS sensors and the wires from the xenon headlight range control sensors (if installed).
NOTE

8.2. Work performed on the left side of the vehicle

Unscrew the hub nut using the tool (Rou. 604-01).


Suspension arm ball joint

Remove the ball joint of the suspension arm.
Disconnect the wheel drive shaft from the steering knuckle.
Remove the left front wheel drive shaft.
Remove the transaxle ECU harness holder and side amplifier.

Disconnecting the Transmission ECU Connector:

Open the transmission ECU harness retainer and disconnect the transmission ECU connector.

8.3. Work performed on the right side of the vehicle

Unscrew the hub nut using the tool (Rou. 604-01).
Remove the tie rod end ball joint using tool (Tav. 476).
Remove the ball joint of the anti-roll bar using the tool (Tav. 476).
Remove the ball joint of the suspension arm.
Remove the intermediate bearing flange.
Disconnecting the drive shaft from the steering knuckle

Disconnect the drive shaft from the steering knuckle.
Remove the right front wheel drive shaft.
Secure the engine cooling system radiator and condenser assembly to the head cross member with twine.

Do not reuse the nuts that were removed from the torque converter and drive plate, be sure to replace them with new ones.
Check for dowel sleeves.

Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

When installing the automatic transmission to the engine, make sure that the transmission input shaft and the torque converter are perfectly aligned.
Tighten to torque:
- wheel bolts (110 Nm);
- bolts of the brake caliper guide pins (7 Nm);
- nut for fastening the ball joint pin of the tie rod end (37 Nm);
- nut for fastening the pin of the ball joint of the suspension arm (62 Nm);
- bolts of fastening of the jet thrust to the subframe (105 Nm);
- bolts for fastening the gearbox and starter to the engine (44 Nm);
- nut of the gearbox pendulum support (62 Nm);
- nut for fastening the ball joint pin of the tie rod end (62 Nm);
- nut for fastening the torque converter on the drive disk (37 Nm);
- mounting bolts of the modular connector bracket (20 Nm);
- mounting bolts of the engine crankshaft speed sensor (10 Nm);
- bolts for fastening the jet thrust to the K4M engine (105 Nm);
- bolts for fastening the jet thrust to the F4R engine (180 Nm);
- the nut for attaching the pendulum support to the pillow (180 Nm).
Fill the automatic transmission with oil and check the level.
In case of oil change, reset the parameters of the adaptive correction using the command: RZ 005 "Resetting the self-tuning parameters" and reset the oil life counter in the automatic transmission ECU by issuing the command: CF074 "Record the date of oil change in the gearbox".
After executing command RZ005, be sure to drive with repeated transitions to higher and lower gears to enter into memory the new setting values.

9. Removal and installation of the multifunction switch

Withdrawal
Place the selector lever in the "N" position.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.
Remove:
- air intake pipe;
- storage battery;
- shelf for storage battery;
- ECU of the injection system together with the bracket;
- air filter housing;
- fixing the wiring harness.
Disconnect:
- ball end of the multifunction switch drive cable;
- drive cable from the sheath stopper on the modular connector bracket.
Remove the two bolts of the multi-function switch mounting lever.
Disconnect the modular connector by freeing up its movable part.
Remove the three bolts securing the modular connector bracket.
Remove the two bolts securing the modular connector bracket.

Multi-function switch connector

Remove the green connector from the multi-function switch (12-pin).

Installation
Place the multifunction switch in neutral "N".
Adjust the multi-function switch.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
Tighten to the specified torque the nut of the selector lever (10 Nm).

10. Adjustment of the multifunction switch
With the gear selector in neutral, attach the two gauge tips to the position test leads.
Installing the multimeter

Set the multimeter to "ohmmeter" mode.
Turn the multifunction switch by hand until the switch closes (resistance at switch contacts is 0 Ohm).
Tighten to torque (10 Nm) the multifunction switch mounting bolts.
ATTENTION
After tightening the bolts, the electrical contact must be closed (0 ohms).

Check system operation and gear shifting.

Place the vehicle on a 2 post lift.
Remove the top engine covers.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.
Remove the front bumper.

Tighten to torque:
- the torque converter turbine speed sensor mounting bolt (10 Nm);
- the bolt of the movement speed sensor (44 Nm).

14. Removal and installation of the flow control solenoid valve
Withdrawal
Place the vehicle on a 2 post lift.
Remove the top engine covers.
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals, starting with the negative terminal.

It is not necessary to drain the oil and remove the automatic transmission to remove the cooler oil control solenoid valve.
