REAR AND FRONT SHAFT

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Apply marks (paint or punch), defining the relative position of the mating parts, to connect them during assembly in the same position to maintain the balance of the shafts.

1. Install the front (rear) propeller shaft in the centers and, turning it, check the tube runout, which should not exceed:

- 0.5 mm at a distance of 50 mm from the end welds;
- 0.3 mm in the middle.
2. If the runout exceeds the specified values, straighten the shaft under the press or replace it.

SPLINE CONNECTION

PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Check the clearance in the splined joint of the sliding fork of the front and rear shafts. The maximum permissible circumferential clearance along the average diameter of the slot is 0.30 mm.
2. Check the presence of a plug in the fork 5 (see Fig. Details of the front cardan shaft), the condition of the yoke 7 and the oil seal 6 of the sliding fork.
3. If necessary, replace the oil seal, and if damaged, replace the yoke.

GARDEN JOINTS

1. Check the condition of the bearing housings, needles, cross studs, oil seals, end washers.
2. If the bearing housings, needles and spikes of the cross-piece, as well as oil seals or end washers are damaged or worn, replace the cross-piece assembly with bearings.
3. The diameter of the fork hole for the needle bearing must not exceed 28.021 mm.

The cardan transmission consists of intermediate (pos. 7.8), front 4 and rear 10 driveshafts.

In the design of the intermediate shaft, an elastic coupling and a constant velocity joint are used. The elastic coupling reduces noise and vibration of the shaft and transfer case. The sleeve is made of six rubber elements 37, between which there are metal liners 35, to which the rubber elements are vulcanized. The liners have holes for bolts 33 connecting the elastic coupling to the gearbox output shaft flange and to the flange 34 of the elastic coupling. Washers 36 are located under the nuts of the fastening bolts for balancing the intermediate propeller shaft. The elastic coupling is centered on the flanges by six projections of the liners 35, of which three go into the slots of the gearbox output shaft flange, and the rest into the slots of the flange 34 of the elastic coupling.

The alignment of the gearbox output shaft and the intermediate propeller shaft is ensured by the centering ring 38 pressed onto the end of the gearbox output shaft and by the centering sleeve pressed into the flange 34.

The hinge of equal angular velocities of the intermediate shaft consists of a cage mounted on the slots of the flange 34 of the elastic coupling, a separator 32, in the holes of which six balls are located, and a housing 28, inside which six radial grooves are machined. The balls 29, located in the grooves of the body and the holder, pivotally connect them to each other. Hinge cavity filled with grease and sealed rubber cover 30, which, together with the protective casing 31, is fastened with a clamp 39 to the hinge body, and the arc with its end to the shank of the flange 34. From the end, the hinge cavity is closed with a plug 40.

Removing the intermediate shaft

Remove the transfer case assembly with intermediate shaft (see Removing the Transfer Case).

1. Keeping the shaft from turning with a screwdriver, with a key "13" unscrew the four nuts securing the intermediate shaft to the transfer case flange.

2. Remove the intermediate shaft. Install the intermediate shaft on the transfer case in reverse order.
