What happened to Doc Hudson. Hudson Hornet: the story of a cool car from Cars

Neil Barnwell

Where did Doc Hudson go?

Does that ever imply what exactly happened to Doc Hudson between the events of Cars and Cars 2? At some point, one of the characters says something like: "Doc would be proud of you." I'm guessing the reason for the character being dropped is because Paul Newman was not signed.

Christy Cook

I think Doc Hudson should appear in Cars 3.

I wish the doctor could stay alive with us and we will be glad he helped with the McQueen lighting and McQueen lighting, was happy that the dock was there for him, now McQueen lighting will no longer see Doc, he was sad that the dock died before other cars that were in another country and cities were all upset that the dock on the eve

That's why I say he was Doc Hudson and Doc Hudson was. So when we started thinking about the new film, we immediately said, "Let's just figure out a tasteful way to somehow pay tribute to the character and Paul Newman." So we came to the conclusion that the big cup that their race is called The Piston Cup, which was renamed in honor of Doc Hudson to the Hudson Horney Memorial Piston Cup, and they turned his doctor's office into the Doc Hudson Museum. So, at the very beginning, there is only a small moment with Mather and McQueen, which was my tribute to Paul Newman in the film.

At the same time, I do not know of a single source confirming that Doc actually died. in the Universe(presumably just from old age or the automotive equivalent of organ failure).

This actually raises a lot of questions. Can machines die? In the real world, people stop fixing cars when they get expensive, but in theory you could just replace parts for good. It is not like people, where many parts do not have replacement, and the components of all parts deteriorate over time. Where is the soul of the car? If you replaced every part, would they still be?

vastra360

WTF? Who will buy the villain's corpse for their child? Anyway, the better the wording, can cars be immortal?

typo in the Hudson Horney memorial, but the edit is too short to admit.

In the original version it was voiced by Paul Newman, in the Russian version by Armen Dzhigarkhanyan.

Doc Hudson could be called a village doctor (mechanic), if he were not the Same-Hudson-Hornet. Almost half a century ago, he remained the absolute champion of the Big Piston Cup for 3 years in a row, and such things are not forgotten. Doc Hudson is always calm and strict, and nothing can throw him off balance. It never skids either on the asphalt or on a country road, and if it accelerates slowly, this does not mean that it cannot go fast. Only Doc Hudson can talk about the ins and outs of Big Piston Cup races and prepare McQueen's Lightning for the competition.

Prototype: Hudson hornet- the legendary car of the Hudson company (English), produced for three years, starting in 1951. The car was incredibly popular with racers. Despite its not the most sporting characteristics, it has repeatedly won the American NASCAR racing series, but after the merger of Hudson and the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation (English), the series fell into disrepair along with the concern, and soon car production was stopped. Soon the concern itself was closed. The production ceased, but the memories of the legend survived.

Additionally.

Films Pixar- a veritable basket of Easter eggs filled with branded jokes and subtle (or sometimes not so subtle) references to other Pixar work that only keen-eyed fans would have noticed. "Cars 3"(Cars 3) are no exception and contain quite a few new hidden gems.

Check out some Easter eggs you may have missed on the third lap of the track.

A113

Pixar films are traditionally required to contain at least one reference to A113, the class number in which many of its veterans (including John Lasseter and Brad Bird) attended the California Institute of the Arts. Fortunately, the number wasn't all that hard to spot in Cars 3.

A113 is more visible on the doors of the owner's office Rust-eze and general director Sterling when he meets his new rider, Lightning McQueen. There is a number very prominently hanging on the door, and it is shown twice so that viewers will correctly pick up the link.

Pizza Planet Truck

After debuting in the first Pixar film "History of toys"(which, incidentally, came out in 1995 and directly inspired McQueen's car number, "95") The Pizza Planet truck pops up in most of their films - all but The Incredibles... In Cars 3, the old pickup truck reappears during McQueen's derby race, where his protégé coach Cruz Ramirez participates in secret.

The muddy lane stage shows which types of vehicles can participate in the so-called Crazy Eight race, with the latter car being the overnight winner. And for a brief moment, the Pizza Planet truck can be seen confronting McQueen, Ramirez, and Miss Fritter's school bus (whose name may be a reference to Miss Frizzle's Magic School Bus).

Pixar ball

Like the A113, the Pixar ball - a yellow ball with a blue stripe and a red star - has become a must for every studio movie, including Cars 3. In the same place as the truck, the Pixar ball can be seen in the race scene painted on the hood of one car crashing into another. While the Pizza Planet truck was prominent thanks to its badge, the Pixar ball is a little harder to spot in the muddy crowd of cars.

Familiar brands

The Cars series is filled with cars that are sponsored by fictitious corporations, and there are tons of Easter eggs related to these brands. Buy n Large, for example, sponsors one of the early race cars in the film, and off-court is seen as one of McQueen's flagship races against sensational newcomer Jackson Storm. BnL, as Pixar fans may recall, is a corporation that originated in Wall-E and was key in consumer protection that left the world in shambles. It has since appeared in subsequent Pixar films including Toy Story 3 and "Up".

Dinoco is another old brand (it originated as a gas station in Toy Story) that continues to hold its own in the Wheelbarrow world as a sponsor of Strip Weathers, his nephew Cal Weathers and newcomer Speedster Ramirez. There is also a link to another brand - Triple Dent Gum, which was first introduced in "Puzzle".

Cinderella's pumpkin

Stirling's office is not just where you can find the A113 number - you can see the iconic image of Cinderella's pumpkin carriage in the background of his office. " She's out of focus most of the time.- teased director Brian Fee. - But by looking, you can find it". Although Cinderella is an old Disney pre-Pixar work, the movie is referenced in the scene "House of Mouse", and "The Little Mermaid".

"Coco"

New work from Pixar, "The Secret of Coco", also gets a couple of Easter eggs in Cars 3. Not only does the title of the film appear (almost appear) on the walls in a few shots, but it also shows the city where one of the secondary riders is training along with McQueen in the new center of Stirling, which then coach Ramirez asked to be considered his hometown.

NASCAR racers get a new name

Nascar Racers fans should have a big day deciding which of the tertiary characters in the film represent the real racers who voiced them. Among the industry superstars who have short soundtrack cameos as the Cars characters in the film:

Jeff Gordon reprises the role of "Cars 2", Jeff Horvett;

Darrell Waltrip returns as Darrell Cartrip;

Daniel Suarez debuts as Danielle Swivers;

Ryan Blaney as Ryan "Inside" Laney;

Chase Elliott voiced by Chase Rachelotte;

and Bubba Wallace- Babbu Ruthhouse.

Perhaps the most subtle reference to Nascar has more to do with ape than with a human racer. Jocko Floco is the legendary mate who helped Tim Fock win the race in the early 50s, and his name is referenced by Mac's disguise on his trailer to trick the riders on the dirt road where McQueen and Ramirez went for training.

The resurrection of Paul Newman

Perhaps one of the most poignant surprises in Cars 3 is the return of Doc Hudson, a character originally voiced by the late Paul Newman. His status as Lightning's mentor had a monumental impact on the rider, especially as Lightning added more miles to its odometer and became a faster vehicle.

Not only did he return in flashbacks of his scenes from Cars, but he also got new dialogue in those nostalgic moments. According to producer Kevin Reher, these sounds are made possible by Newman's recordings between the scoring of Cars, where he talks about racing for fun. " John [Lasseter] left notes from Cars 1, so we had moments where Paul talked about everything and a lot was about racing.- said Rier. - And this whole phrase "500, round and round" - it was all spontaneous conversation with John about racing ".

Car talk

For fans of NPR's "Car Talk", the voice of Tom Magliozzi (who passed away in 2014) and his brother Ray, aka. Click and Clack, the Tuppet Brothers, were fun additions of Rusty and Dusty to all of the Cars movies. They reference their old show as they say goodbye to McQueen (after selling Rust-eze to Sterling with the hope that he can provide their best rider with a great chance to return to the finest hour) and utter the catchphrase "Car Talk": “Don't ride like my brother. And don't drive like my brother! ".

McQueen has arrived! McQueen has arrived! - Meter shouted at full speed, driving around the sleepy town of Radiator Springs.

It was still early, not even a single alarm clock in Sally's Cone Motel had rang. However, the joyful exclamations of the tractor turned out to be even louder than the clock and "classics" from Fillmore. The street was empty, only Meter drove around next to the machine shops of his friends and Mack stood on the sidelines with a smile watching the joyful tractor.

When everyone gathered in the street, asking Meter what happened and why he woke them up so early, he did not answer. McQueen rode out of the trailer slowly with ... a cup of large piston. Yes, this was already the second such cup in his so far modest collection. Most froze in surprise, looking first at the cup, then at the happy driver. Moments later, Meter, Luigi, Guido, Flo, Ramon, Sergeant, Fillmore, Sheriff, Sally, Hose ... they all warmly congratulated McQueen. He was clearly moved by this reception.

However, not all residents of Radiator Springs left to congratulate the rider. Doc Hudson stayed in his garage, out of the dim window, through which light can hardly break through, looking at the crowd. He could not help smiling from pride in his student. An unexpectedly joyful meeting was interrupted by anxiety.

Where is Doc? Has something happened to him? McQueen asks warily. Hudson heard everything, albeit muffled and sometimes indistinct. He sees that at one moment everyone hesitated a little, and they seemed to feel Doc's trusting gaze on them. Of course, they will keep his secret.

Doc? Well ... he ... - not knowing what to answer Luigi mutters, looking somewhere to the side.

He is OK! - the Sheriff interrupts him with a grin. “He just… um… probably decided to take a ride early in the morning.

Truth? And I thought that something had happened to him, or he was away, ”says Lightning with a smile.

The rider's gaze went to Hudson Hornet's garage. Doc decided to drive off to the side so as not to appear to the boy in the eye. Still, he decided to go out to meet him. This time, he did not mutter anything to himself under the bumper, as he did when he first saw the young racer in the town, and then he was clearly not happy with the uninvited guest. Now the old grievances were in the past.

Only Hudson is going to open the garage, McQueen did it for him in a second. He even held his breath, their gazes crossed ... it was an important long-awaited meeting between the mentor and his student.

I heard that you won the Big Piston Cup for the second time ... - Doc began the conversation with a barely noticeable smile. “You’re doing well, young man. Congratulations on winning.

Thank you ... - Lightning said without holding back his joy. Hudson just grinned, because he was really happy for his student and shared his feelings.

Well, how about you personally prove your victory to me? Although not for the cup, but sometimes it is also necessary for interest.

With joy! Just to begin with, I will talk to the guys ... It seems that we have not seen them for ages! - McQueen replied after driving back a little and looking at his friends. Expressing a good-natured smile, Doc dismissed his apprentice.

However, Lightning did not understand what mistake he made by agreeing to this small competition ... When the young racer drove out of the garage, Doc slowly leaned out after him and stopped near the exit. There was a large crack in the rear window, and a dent in the trunk, not so noticeable, but it meant a lot to Hudson's current condition. Of course, everyone knew about this, except for McQueen - Doc did not want to excite his student and cloud his joy, as he believed, with his problems.

Hudson Hornet drove past Café Flo, and luckily no one noticed him. Except for Sally. When Luigi and Guido started asking him a lot of questions about the Ferrari and not only, she quietly drove off to Doc.

Why did you offer him this competition?

Sally looked worried. She clearly knew what Hudson was hiding, and assumed what it might lead to. But Doc didn't care. He perfectly understood that everyone was worried about him, he even remembered what a violent reaction his friends had when he told what happened to him that day ...

I know what I'm doing, Sally. My current state is not important to me. I know that I can still do a lot and I will prove that you were all wrong about me ... - Hudson answered a little offendedly and drove off towards the very dirt track where he and McQueen loved to spend time.

You know very well that sooner or later he will find out about it! - Shouted after him Sally, but he seems to have no longer heard her. Sally sighed and went back to the others.

Evening. Lightning McQueen was on his way to the meeting place with his mentor. He felt that slippery ground on his tires again ... it's dirt. He has not had the opportunity to ride it again since he left for the race. There he felt only dry asphalt, but here - a miracle, not a road. Sometimes the ground, sometimes asphalt, sometimes the grass, which can be mowed and reaches only the middle of the wheels, or it can be overgrown, where even such a car as the Meter can hide.

He drove up to the first corner, which just led to the track, where he and Doc love to compete. He pulled to the right side, but turns to the left - this is the essence of dirt roads. Whoever does not understand this will certainly not see victory. Finally, McQueen sees a huge rock, behind which is a dark blue car with silver edges that adorned its body. Hudson Hornet was here, and Lightning had no idea how long.

Sorry to be late, Doc, ”the young driver apologized, stopping next to his mentor. He nodded approvingly, thereby showing that he was not at all offended by his student.

The most important thing is that you didn't get scared, ”Hudson chuckled. - Well, then let's go for a ride?

Both started their engines. McQueen was much louder and smoother than Doc Hudson - he had a quieter motor with sometimes distorted sounds, and Doc himself was not so fast. They got ready to start, about three tires whistled and both cars jerked off, leaving behind dust that rose up as a tuber and could seriously dust the body of someone who would be left behind.

They rode synchronously and were not in such a hurry, as is customary in real races. McQueen often overtook his mentor, but at times slowed down a little so as not to offend the old man, and it was boring to lead alone. Hudson was no longer as fast and agile as he had shown before. But sometimes he tried to overtake the student, doing it not diligently, but with a smile and a warm spark in his soul. Then Lightning also smiled a little and even gave in.

And now, the impetuous Hudson Hornet takes the lead again! The young driver did not try to overtake him, he just enjoyed this race, but one detail made the Lightning brake sharply. Without expecting it, McQueen closed his eyes at the dust rising into the air and began to cough. Doc also slows down and drives up to the young racer in reverse.

Why froze, youth? Hudson asked with a note of concern. Catching his breath from the sudden slowdown, McQueen looks at the mentor in surprise.

You got a crack in your glass ... and a dent ... Where did it come from?

Doc was a little surprised. He did not know, and could not even imagine that his student would find out about this injury so soon. Hudson closed his eyes and looked away, then stopped next to Lightning.

This is just minor damage. Meter has a lot of them, so you shouldn't be surprised. And where I got it - you don't care to know.

McQueen looked at Doc. He hoped that he was telling the truth, but ... Lightning only now drew attention to the hoarse voice of the old man. It seemed to him that Hudson Hornet's voice was not as shaky and rumpled as it is now. Or was he just not listening all this time? McQueen was concerned about this damage to Hudson. Yes, Meter had a countless number of them, but they were really small - a small scratch, a little bit into a tree, and after that only a barely noticeable dent may remain.

Suddenly a small and very awkward silence was broken by Doc, who all this time of his student's thoughts was looking at the sky painted in the colors of sunset: white, yellow, orange, crimson ... and all these colors slowly turn into the color of the night sky. And it is the night sky that will soon overshadow all these bright colors.

It's getting dark. I think we should finish the race as soon as possible, - suggested Hudson Hornet and started off, continuing the race. McQueen followed him uncertainly.

It took about a minute of this ride. A light breeze blew, which barely swept away the small grains of sand on the road. For riders who have been driving on a dirt road for a long time, this breeze seemed to give them speed. The mentor and student rode at the same pace, bumper to bumper and wheel to wheel. McQueen closed his eyes as they passed the bend near the cliff, feeling a slight freshness from the breeze that brushed against the glass. Hudson shared the feelings of Lightning, but at one point everything changed dramatically ...

There was a muffled explosion followed by a sliding squeak. McQueen came to his senses abruptly and watched in horror as Doc's tire burst. The old man tried to steer directly, but he accidentally pulled in the wrong direction and turned right onto steep slope and rolled down.

Doc? Doc! - the young racer cried out in fright and drove up to the edge of the cliff, trying to find a dark blue car below. - Doc! It's not funny! - already in panic cried out McQueen and drove downstairs for Hudson. But it certainly didn't sound like a joke.

The dark colors began to cover the sunset sky more, so it was harder to find Doc among the dirt and cacti. It was a little colder downstairs, but the air was drier, and McQueen could feel it. It seemed to him that at that moment everything was directed against him, but despite all these difficulties, he should find an old man, and if he needs help, be sure to provide it.

With excitement, the oil pressure in the engine began to go off scale. It seemed that it would only be a little overcrowded and would have to be towed to Luigi and Guido. McQueen's lack of headlights made the search much more difficult. But suddenly a hoarse cough was heard, which echoed in the mind of the young racer ... Lightning surrendered to instinct and at all speeds rushed towards the sound.

He drove closer and closer. Now, instead of coughing, one could hear how faintly the engine hummed, sounding like a rattle car, but who could have believed it was Doc! What happened to him - McQueen did not understand. He was getting closer and closer, and finally the dark blue spot became clearer and clearer. It was already possible to make out the silvery edges on the body, and half-closed blue eyes. The hood was smoking, Hudson's heavy breathing was uneven ...

- D-doc ...- said Lightning quietly and approached the hot car. Doc smiled when he saw his student, despite the pain he was now feeling.

Well, biscuit ... it seems that you defeated me ... - the defeated Hudson Hornet said with a sneer and closed his eyes. - I always knew ... that you are capable of more than victories against promising youngsters ...

No, Doc, everything will be fine! I… I’ll call Meter, and he… ”McQueen said almost crying.

Not necessary. There is nothing you can do ... - the old man shuddered a little and the smile disappeared. “It b-was my… mistake.

Doc ... Doc! - trying to bring his mentor to his senses repeated Lightning. Now the tears could not be contained, and the driver began to panic.

Remember ... Everything that I have taught you ... and do not forget about me ...

He opened his half-empty eyes again. Despite the fact that they were difficult to see through the darkness and tears, they had an incredible pride in your student... He was proud to have trained such a decent rider who has already won two victories in one season. He was proud that Lightning turned out to be not as narcissistic and boastful as he was at the very beginning ...

I'm proud of you… Lightning McQueen... Fly like a butterfly ... - Hudson Hornet smiled slightly, looking at the young man.

“… It's a pity, like a bee,” McQueen finished their favorite quote.

And so it really was ... Doc was no longer there. And everything that he started, now Lightning McQueen will finish, and no one else can do it. Finally, there was only a quiet grunt, and then ... silence. And the blue eyes closed by themselves. The engine stopped humming, the engine stopped.

McQueen didn't seem to be able to fully grasp what had happened. He tried several more times to call Doc, but to no avail. Screams ... pain ... tears ... This is how this race ended. Hudson Hornet's last run.

Notes:

When I finished writing this fanfic, I could hardly hold back the tears ... But this is how I imagined the loss of Doc Hudson. He was my favorite character, and he and McQuionm had a lot in common. So McQueen was the last person Doc could see ...

And therefore, as you probably already guessed, today we will talk about the cartoon "Cars". And so, for a start, new cars from "Cars3"!
We meet! Jackson Storm, the latest in car generation, wins McQueen's Lightning at the start of the series.

As such, the prototype of Jackson Storm does not exist, but there are still machines that are similar to this character.

Nissan Concept 2020 Vision GranTurismo.

Similar?
The Nissan 2020 VISION GRAN TURISMO concept car was born out of the dream of a group of young designers at Nissan Design Europe. They set out to create a virtual car that would only exist in their design and in video games. However, the plan was so successful that it was noticed by a team of engineers at the Nissan Technical Center in Japan. Concept passed technical expertise and simulator testing. The new concept car turned out to be very promising, and soon a gorgeous 3D model was born.

Koenigsegg Agera r.
Here's another model. Under the hood of the Agera R is a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, adapted for biofuel use. The machine holds lateral g-forces of 1.6g. The weight of the car is minimal, thanks to a carbon fiber body and an aluminum honeycomb fuel tank. The mass is 1330 kg with a weight distribution of 45/55.
Gear shifting - 7-speed automatic with electronic blocking differential. The maximum speed of the car is limited to 375 km / h, since the installed Michelin Supersport tires are only able to withstand speeds of up to 420 km / h. However, development engineer Christian von Königsegg claims that with more durable tires and no headwind, the Agera R can accelerate to 440 km / h (273 miles) on a straight track.
Overclocking:
up to 200 km / h: 7.8 sec
up to 300 km / h: 14.53 sec
0-200-0 km / h: 12.7 sec.
The second, a character from the cartoon cars3, or rather the second car, which in the end turns out to be the winner of Jackson Storm is Cruz Ramirez.

Plot

Animation hero - racing car nicknamed "Lightning" McQueen, who lives on high speed... At the beginning of the cartoon, during the Big Piston Cup, due to damaged tires, he finishes at the same time as Chico and King, so the judges organize the decisive race in the state of California. Heading there, McQueen falls asleep out of the trailer carrying him. Hoping to catch up with the trailer, he gets lost on the way, breaks every rule, and ends up under arrest in a provincial town on Route 66 called Radiator Springs. There, the racer meets other cars: the tractor Meter, the tattoo artist Ramon, Judge Doc (who turns out to be a famous racer in the past), an Italian traveling salesman named Luigi and the beautiful Sally Carrera. All of them become friends of Lightning, helping him to see the meaning of life in simple "automobile" joys, and not only in the incessant race for success and fame. McQueen helps friends breathe new life into a city that has disappeared from all road maps after a modern freeway was bypassed. He made it to California and was leading the race, but stopped to help King, who was knocked out by Chico Hicks, to the finish line. Chico Hicks became the champion, but Lightning McQueen did a good deed.

Cars from the cartoon "Cars"

Prototype: hybrid of two cars ( Chevrolet corvette and Dodge Viper).

The Chevrolet Corvette is a two-seater rear-wheel drive supercar produced by Chevrolet since 1953, the first American sports car.
In 1953, the two-door coupe Chevrolet Corvette was presented at the Motorrama exhibition - a completely new car for America. It had a fiberglass body on a metal frame, mounted on a tubular frame, a 152 hp inline six-cylinder engine. with. and a volume of 3.8 liters and a two-speed automatic transmission Powerglide.
In January 2004, at the Detroit Auto Show, the Corvette C6 was presented with a convertible and coupe body, which received newest motor volume of 6.2 liters, developing power of 437hp. In 2008, the model gained a modernized transmission, new body paint options and improved interior trim, a new exhaust system and wheel design.

Dodge Viper - sports car Dodge... Production started in 1992.
The car appeared in late 1988 at the Chrysler design studio. In 1989, the car appeared in metal as a concept car at the North American International Auto Show. The concept was first named Copperhead (the name of one of the rattlesnake species in the United States) due to its distinctive appearance. The name was later changed to Viper, but all engines for the car have since been labeled "Copperhead". In January 1992, deliveries of the Dodge Viper to dealers began.
In 2008, the engine was modified and received 600 hp. at 6000 rpm, the valves were also increased, the combustion chambers and the valve timing system were changed. The new Tremec TR6060 has replaced the Tremec T56 gearbox. New Michelin tires Pilot Sport 2 made the car more neutral when cornering. A viscous coupling GKN was installed in the rear axle. Another notable change has been the recycling of the exhaust, electrical and fuel systems.

Prototype: Hudson Hornet.

The Hudson Hornet was manufactured by Hudson Motors from 1951 to 1954, and from 1955 to 1957 by American Motors.
The Hornet was introduced for the 1951 model year and was based on a "step-down" design. This type of construction consisted of a body and a frame combined into a single structure, with a bottom integrated between the frame of the car. Together with a lowered center of gravity, the Hornet had a streamlined and stylish look, and was intended for quite comfortable travel of six people.
All cars were equipped with a 6-cylinder inline engine volume of 5.0 liters, it developed a capacity of 145 liters. with. with a torque of 373 Nm. and 3800 rpm and was equipped with a two-chamber carburetor. In 1954, the car underwent a redesign with a curved windshield and updated taillights, a modern interior and dashboard. The cars were still equipped with a 6-cylinder in-line 5.0-liter engine.

Prototype: Porsche 911 Carrera.

The Porsche 911 is the most successful production version of the circuit with a rear-mounted, air-cooled 6-cylinder boxer engine with an output of 130 hp. with.
The Porsche 911 Turbo is the fastest and most advanced model ever. Thanks to two turbines, the horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine has increased to 480 hp. with. power, and the maximum speed is 310 km / h. The updated front end of the Porsche 911 is reminiscent of the older generation with its beetle-eye headlights. The interior was also redesigned using the strict lines of previous generations, while looking modern and original. Like its predecessors, the car has four-wheel drive.

Prototype: 1957 Dodge Power Giant

The Power Giant pickups are a continuation of Dodge's C Series. The wheelbase of this series was used without major changes in small trucks and vans. Changes in the design of the car were made annually, but were limited only to the installation of sheet metal on the cab. In fact, the pickup truck body, which was new in mid-1955, was in use until 1975. For 1957 pickups, other important new features were full hood opening, brake boosters, power steering, tubeless tires, 12-volt lighting system and LoadFlite button for automatic transmission.

Prototype:.

Fiat Nuova 500 is a car produced by Fiat from 1957 to 1975.
In July 1957, it was introduced to the public as the Nuova 500, named after the popular pre-war Fiat 500 Topolino, and presented as a practical and cheap city car. Powered by an air-cooled 479cc small two-cylinder engine and a length of only 3 meters, the Fiat 500 is considered one of the first cars in the City car class.

Prototypes: Isetta (front) and Messerschmitt Kabinenroller (back).

Isetta - produced in the post-war period a car, a representative of an especially small class. Isetta was one of the most successful cars type "micro", produced at a time when the most necessary was cheap transport over short distances. Thanks to its bubble windows and egg shape, it has become known as the bubble car, other similar vehicles later borrowed this name.
In the early 1950s, the Italian firm Iso SpA manufactures refrigerators, small three-wheeled trucks and scooters. The owner of the company decided to create a small car for mass consumption. The stylists are said to have designed the machine by combining two scooters, placing them side by side, adding a refrigerator and creating a drop-shaped result. ". We have been waiting for him for a long six years. The first film was a very personal story of the great Lightning racer McQueen, who redefined his life with the help of new friends from the town of Radiator Springs, and came to new victories. The second film was already an adventure-spy film, and its action was transferred to the international arena. Films are very different, but they are equally loved by viewers of all countries of the world. So what is the third part preparing for us?

The best news: we will see his friends again - Mater, Luigi, Guido, Sally Carrera, Ramona, and many others. We'll even see Doc Hudson, the great racing driver who mentored McQueen in the first film. True, according to the plot, Doc has already died (as did the actor Paul Newman, who voiced him), but this will not prevent him from exerting a huge influence on the main character again.

Once Doc Hudson retired from the big sport and settled in the small town of Radiator Springs. It cannot be said that this decision was given to him easily, but in Radiator Springs he began a new life and was quite happy. And now McQueinn is faced with the question: is it time to retire. McQueen, of course, thinks it's not time - what nonsense, he's in his prime! But between Cars 2 and Cars 3, ten years passed, and he clearly did not get any younger. The younger generation breathes in the back. Sponsors have hinted that any failure negatively impacts his brand. Out of indignation, McQueen forgets about the elementary rules and suffers a terrible accident ...

McQueen's main rival is fast, self-confident, impudent - in general, almost like "Lightning" itself many years ago. On the one hand, Jackson seems to respect McQueen, but all the time he emphasizes that his merits are already in the past. Jackson is the future, he wins victory after victory. Yes, Jackson is definitely a new generation racer; he even trains on simulators and simulators, and not on real tracks. By technical parameters he surpasses McQueen, but if you can't beat him with speed, maybe you can win with wits and cunning?

McQueen comes to the rescue, who becomes his coach. Since childhood, Cruz has dreamed of racing and knows everything about it. She lacks the confidence to go out on the track herself, but she has turned out to be a first-class coach, although McQueen is not the easiest ward. Will they be able to find a common language?

Several new characters in Cars 3 are based on true NASCAR legends. So, the prototype of Rivers Scott was Wendell Scott, the only African-American who won the Cup Race - the legendary mechanic Smokey Unique, Louise Nash, nicknamed "Barnstormer" - Louise Smith, nicknamed "First Lady of the Race". And racer Junior Johnson, who was awarded a place in the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2010, not only became the prototype for the new hero Junior Moon, nicknamed Midnight, or Midnight, but also voiced him himself.

“We studied the history of NASCAR racing thoroughly, and it was these four people who immediately captured our imaginations,” says director Brian Fee.

All members of the super four are connected fascinating stories... So, in 1947, Louise Smith went to watch the races in Daytona, but she was just bored of watching. She took part in them in her husband's Ford, and for the car it ended ... unsuccessfully. All the way home, she came up with a legend that would help explain to her husband where her beloved car had gone. But he had already read about everything in the newspaper. However, this did not discourage Louise from participating in the races. Isn't it a plot?

But, and that's not all. In Cars 3 we meet Natalie Sertan (from English “certain”). She is a super analyst and race statistician. She is an excellent judge of the potential of each participant in the races, but perhaps does not take into account the degree of their determination. We will also see the school bus and racing legend. She will show McQueen what an unprimed road is! McQueinn also has a sponsor with the lovely speaking surname Sterling.

We, of course, hope for McQueinn's victory, but we are not 100% sure. The more interesting it will be to go to the cinema starting from June 15th.

The A113 is more visible on the doors of the office of Rust-eze owner and CEO of Sterling when he meets his new rider, Lightning McQueen.

Jeff Gordon reprises the role of "Cars 2", Jeff Horvett;

Darrell Waltrip returns as Darrell Cartrip;

Daniel Suarez debuts as Danielle Swivers;

Ryan Blaney as Ryan "Inside" Laney;

Chase Elliott voiced by Chase Rachelotte;

and Bubba Wallace- Babbu Ruthhouse.

The concept has passed technical expertise and simulator tests. The new concept car turned out to be very promising, and soon a gorgeous 3D model was born.

Gear shifting - 7-speed automatic with electronic differential lock.

Plot

The animation hero is a racing car, nicknamed "Lightning" McQueen, who lives at high speed.

Prototype: a hybrid of two cars (Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper).

In January 2004, at the Detroit Auto Show, the Corvette C6 was presented with a convertible and coupe body, which received the latest 6.2-liter engine, developing 437 hp. Isetta is a passenger car produced in the post-war period, a representative of an especially small class. The Isetta was one of the most successful micro cars to be produced at a time when cheap transportation over short distances was essential. Thanks to the bubble windows and egg shape, it became known as the bubble car, and other similar vehicles later adopted the name.
In 1952, engineers developed a small car using a scooter engine and named it the Isetta.

In 1977, Mack built its most prestigious RW Superliner with its classic angular shapes and a huge chrome-plated square radiator grille, diesels ranging from 175 to 550 hp. and a 6-speed semi-automatic transmission. Since 1985 it has been offered in the second generation "RW II" with a new sleeping compartment.

Prototype: 1992 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Mazda miata MX-5 is a small two-seater roadster of Japanese origin. It was first shown at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and immediately gained popularity for its attractive looks and ease of handling.
The designers needed to create a modern, safe and light vehicle. This problem was solved using a monocoque body made of high-strength steel. Perfectly designed chassis, low center of mass and good weight distribution allowed the car to stay on the road perfectly.
Miata debuted with a 120-horsepower 1.6-liter engine. In 1994, the engine was updated: the volume was increased to 1.8 liters, and the power was increased to 131 hp. 5-speed "mechanics" was basic. At the same time, the maximum speed was about 190 km / h. The Miata has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's best-selling sports car.

One of the main characters of the cartoon "Cars" is a wise veteran of circuit races Doc Hudson, or as he was called in life - Hudson Hornet. One of the most significant classic cars America, which made a lot of noise at one time.

When, in 1951, one of the oldest American automakers, the Hudson Motor Car Company, announced the release of a new model, there was no hysteria, no huge queues. In part, this was not facilitated by the time - the Korean War had just begun, and the market was divided between GM, Ford, and Chrysler, which had grown stronger on military orders. However, "Hornet" ("bumblebee"), in comparison with classmates - full-size cars of the above giants, was a fairly progressive design. First of all, it was a car with a monocoque body, sitting quite low to the ground - and at that time, tall and narrow chassis and frame structure were still in use. When developing a monocoque body, the designers decided to play it safe, and did not stop to strengthen the body until they received a real tank. It got to the point that the B-pillar was suitable for use as a roll cage when a car rolls over.

Also, it was powered by the largest 6-cylinder low-valve engine in the world at that time - with a volume of 5 liters and with a return of 145 forces (during production it was raised to 160hp). its feature was high acceleration, which, coupled with excellent "accelerating" potential, allowed experienced minders to accelerate the standard Hornet to unprecedented speeds - 180 km / h! At that time, only supercars, or home-made lightweight hot-rods could encroach on this.

While sales were sluggish, the Hornet was carving out a rut in the auto arena — which was just nascent in America. The efforts of the engineers at Hudson, who paid significantly more attention to the design of the car (than the guys from the Big Three, who think too much about money), were not in vain. "Hornet" literally flew on dirt tracks - its low center of gravity and excellent handling imposed extremely intense struggle on rival drivers.

But the Hornets' finest hour was in the evolving NASCAR circuit races. All 4 seasons that it was produced - 1951, 52, 53, 54 - Hornet did not give rivals a chance. All 4 seasons ended with the complete dominance of the lightweight “Hudson” - this record for the number of successive victories has not been broken to this day. The prototype of Doc Hudson, or rather his real-life version, was called the Fabulous Hudson Hornet - it was a race car specially prepared by the Hornet in a two-door "club coupe" body, which was driven by racers Marshall Teague and Herb Thomas - they gave him this is the name. Soon, the boards were decorated with beautiful vinyls, although the Hornet, completely unlike its competitors, was instantly recognizable without them.

However, as is often the case in the world, insane racing success for a well-made car did not at all mean its commercial success in America. Perhaps the Big Three did not pay enough attention to the design of their cars, but alas, money won out enthusiasm here too. In 1954, when the unprofitable Hornet was taken out of production, the Hudson company collapsed and merged with another unprofitable company, Nash, which had previously specialized in the production of the famous Metropolitan small cars. In this form, the newborn concern "American Motors" will exist until the end of the 70s, all the while remaining in the shadow of the "big guys". Both the car and the character were forgotten and abandoned.

American full-length cartoon "Cars" in 2006 about funny, with many comical situations, but at the same time with quite "serious" adult problems, the relationship between anthropomorphic toy cars fell in love not only with ordinary viewers, but also with venerable critics.

What can I say: Pixar studio is fluent in the art of creating commercially successful, not stupid cartoons. The wave of success for the animated film has generated a similar surge in sales of various souvenirs and collectibles. The request to buy Doc Hudson, and any other cartoon character, has not subsided for over 10 years.

Who is this, your Doc Hudson?

The prototype for the creation of the machine was the Hudson Hornet car that actually existed and was produced in the 50s of the last century. It stood out against the background of the cars that existed at that time with its streamlined hull design, a lowered center of gravity of the bottom and chassis, due to which it repeatedly showed excellent results in races. Animated incarnation - Hudson Dornett from Cars is one of the most popular and recognizable supporting characters.

In the story, Doc Hudson (pseudonym, real name - Hudson Dornet, born 1951) is a formerly famous racer who won three Piston Cups in a row, but left the sport early due to an accident. Now he lives as a hermit, only occasionally attending competitions as a judge. He knows a lot of the secrets of the racer's skill and wants to teach them to the main character, Lightning McQueen. The color of the car body is blue, the character is calm and strict, never enters into itself.

Have you ever heard of a car like the Hudson Hornet? Have you watched the cartoon "Cars"? If you watched, then you probably remember a character named Doc Hudson. So it is a copy of the same "Hornet", which has not been produced for more than half a century, but remains in the hearts of motorists, and especially fans of the classics. In this article, you will learn the history of the Hudson Hornet model and its main features.

A few words about the company

Surprisingly, the Hudson company is named not after the creators, but after the investor. It all started with the fact that in 1909, four enterprising young men decided to create a car company. Then one of them turned to his father-in-law with a request to borrow money. And so it happened that a man who did not understand cars at all immortalized his name by investing 90 thousand dollars in the business of his son-in-law. The money soon paid off with interest. Well, today we will consider the most resonant model of the company - "Hudson Hornet" ("Hornet" - as the name of the model is translated).

General characteristics of the model

The model is a full-size passenger car that was produced from 1951 to 1957. The first four years it was made by Hudson Motors, located in Detroit, and then by American Motors in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The first generation of cars received a streamlined shape and a lower center of gravity, which allowed them to perform quite successfully in races.

The second generation was a restyled version of the Nash model, which was produced under the Hudson brand until 1957. Now let's take a closer look at all versions of the Hudson Hornet machine.

1951 Hudson Hornet

The first modification, which rolled off the assembly line in 1951, was based on the Step-down design concept, which was first embodied in the Commodore three years earlier. The essence of the concept was to combine the body and frame (into which the bottom was built) into a single structure. This solution, together with the downward center of gravity, created a stylish, streamlined look that could comfortably carry six passengers.

The 1951 Hudson Hornet was offered in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, convertible, and hardtop. In terms of price, the cars were on a par with the Commodore model - 2.5-3.1 thousand dollars.

All models were powered by a 6-cylinder, 5-liter in-line engine. The motor was equipped with a two-chamber carburetor and developed 145 horsepower. The model could accelerate to a speed of 180 km / h. For such characteristics, she received AAA certification from NASCAR. From November 1951, it became possible to purchase a Hornet with a Twin H-Power engine for an additional $ 85.

During the debut year, 43.6 thousand cars of this model were produced.

1952-1953 years

In 1952, the Twin H-Power motor was included in standard equipment car. Together with a double intake manifold and two carburetors, the engine developed 170 hp. with. And in some trim levels, this figure could be increased to 210 liters. with. In 1952, 35 thousand copies of the Hudson Hornet model rolled off the assembly line. The following year, the car received minor exterior changes, the main one of which was the renewal of the radiator grille. This year, 27 thousand models were produced.

1954 year

In 1954, the model underwent a significant restyling. It included a curved windshield, new headlights, and a modern interior and dashboard. But the changes were still a little late and did not have a strong impact on sales. As before, the cars were equipped with in-line "sixes", while competitors had already switched to V-8 engines.

Before the merger of the Hudson and Nash companies, production in 1954 amounted to almost 25 thousand cars.

Success in the races

Cars of this model often participated in races and repeatedly won the championship among the serial of those years.

In 1952, in AAA races, Hornet pilot Marshall Teague came first out of 13 races in 12.

In NASCAR races on "Hornets" 5 drivers competed at once. Together they won 27 victories. In total, the model was in first place 40 times and won 83% of the races. The car in which Marshall Teague showed his phenomenal result was named Fabulous Hudson Hornet. During 1953-1954, the car received many more victories, which made it famous throughout the world.

The original Fabulous Hudson Hornet is currently housed in the Ypsilanti, Michigan Automotive Museum.

Second generation

After the Hudson and Nash companies merged into one business in 1954, the production of cars in Detroit stopped. It was carried over to Nash's factories in Wisconsin. All subsequent models were assembled on the Nash platform, but had a distinctive Hudson logo.

1955 year

The new model entered the market in 1955. Compared to the competition, the second generation Hudson Hornets had a rather conservative design. From now on, the car was carried out only in sedan and hardtop bodies. Under the hood of the model was a 5.2-liter developing power of 208 horsepower. The motor was named Packard. It is noteworthy that it was aggregated with automatic transmission... The rear suspension system was tubular and the front springs were lengthened.

Like the Nash models, the new Hudson had effective system air conditioning and wide front seats. One day automotive expert Floyd Clymer said the Hudson Hornets, thanks to their welded body, efficient braking system and excellent maneuverability, are the most safe cars America.

1956 year

This year it was decided to update the design of the Hornet line. Designer Richard Arbib came up with the V-line Stuling concept, which was based on the shape of the letter V. The interior and exterior of the car were redesigned. And it made it unique and noticeable from afar. But even that did not help prevent a significant drop in sales in 1956. Sales fell from 13 to 8 thousand units.

1957 year

In 1957, the car was slightly modified: they installed an "egg-like" radiator grill and chrome side moldings. Also added 5 color options. The power of the car was increased to 255 horsepower, while the price was lowered. Nevertheless, sales of the model fell to 3 thousand copies a year.

As a result, production was stopped. The Hudson brand was abolished, and the cars received a new name - Rambler.

Heritage

In 1951 "Hornet" received the status "Car of the Year" in the book automotive journalist Henry Balls Tape.

In 1970, the Hornet index was revived on one of the AMC models.

In 2006, they developed a concept car called the Dodge Hornet.

The car, as already mentioned, is one of the characters in the cartoon "Cars". And also, if you like computer games, you may come across Hudson Hornet there. GTA 5 and Driver San-Francisco provide an opportunity to purchase a model in the virtual space.

Conclusion

The fate of the revolutionary cars of the past is developing in an amazing way. Some of them achieve phenomenal success and recognition, others become the collapse of entire car concerns. And some manage to combine both the first and the second, as, for example, in the case of the Hudson Hornet car. Photos, history and authoritative opinion have helped us discover what this model is all about.
