New car numbers in Ukraine now have a greater number of combinations. They consist of eight characters, including two letters on the right and left. These letters represent the series and region code respectively. Another innovation - license plates of the first, third and fifth types can be purchased for permanent use and deposited in the regional or central Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (former MREO) for up to five years. They are assigned to the owner, upon purchase new car, after its registration at the Service Center, they are transferred back to him.

History of the appearance of new license plates

Car plate numbers Ukraine, a new sample was approved in 2004. They comply with Gosstandart 4278: 2004 “License Plates vehicle". In addition, the previous standard DSTU 3650-97 is valid in the country. Some car owners still drive cars with old Ukrainian license plates.

Some drive with Soviet license plates, which were still in the Soviet Union. They differ either with a white background and black letters and numbers, or, conversely, with a black main field with light symbols.

After the USSR collapsed, the country became independent. Therefore, a new Gosstandart was required, which regulates the numbers of cars in Ukraine. In 1994, the government approved DSTU 25 / 88-94, which was in effect until 2004. It differed little from the old regulations, only the national yellow-blue flag was an innovation.

During registration and registration, it is necessary to obtain new Ukrainian car numbers that meet modern requirements. Old signs are almost never found today, they remained with rare motorists. Therefore, the discussion below will focus on license plates introduced into circulation after 1997.

License plate types

In Ukraine, there are ten types of license plates that relate to a certain type of vehicle:

  1. Bus, automobile transport and trailers.
  2. Vehicles from the first category for one-time trips.
  3. Special vehicles for transporting guarded persons.
  4. Vehicles owned by the diplomatic corps, as well as their family members and service personnel.
  5. Motor transport, including strollers.
  6. Transit signs for motor vehicles.
  7. Personal numbers made to order.
  8. Heavy machinery for agriculture and construction, including trailers.
  9. Military transport belonging to the security forces and the Ministry of Emergencies.
  10. Motor vehicles owned by law enforcement agencies and the Ministry of Emergencies.

Autonumbers before 2004

Until 2004, only Latin letters were applied to the numbers of Ukrainian cars. This was necessary, since the country joined the international Convention on Road Traffic. Since 1997, the state standard has been in effect, which excluded the Cyrillic alphabet.

The 7-digit car numbers by region, which were previously in the Soviet Union, were replaced by 10-digit car numbers with the car number, region code by series and the national flag. Unlike the standard white or black background, signs belonging to the police had a blue background, the Armed Forces had black, and transit license plates had a red or green background with black symbols.

New license plates

In 2004, the old ones were replaced by new license plates by regions. They comply with the DSTU 4278: 2004 standard. It is planned that they will gradually replace the old DSTU 3650-97. In addition to eight-digit symbols, they are distinguished by the image of the national flag and coat of arms, as well as the obligatory presence of the abbreviated name of Ukraine in Latin letters - UA.

Transit license plates also look different now. Dark black characters stand out against a dark red background. The license plates of the police and the Armed Forces have a blue and black background. For minibuses, yellow is specially highlighted, black symbols are applied to it. Motor vehicles now have square-shaped license plates.

The new Gosstandart made legitimate the personalized license plates, which the owners of vehicles make according to their own design. On such signs, letter designations, any symbols are applied. The traffic police issues such license plates as a duplicate to the main license plates. They can only be in Ukraine, in other states they are invalid.

Another innovation of the new standard is the assignment of license plates to the car owner. This means that when replacing a vehicle, he has the right to attach old signs to new car or motor vehicles.

Until 2000, transit signs were made in the form of a national flag with the Latin letters UA and the inscription "transit". After 2000, these license plates were common, only the background color was blue, not white, as before. In 2001, the standard changed. Transit auto-signs look green today. Also among the innovations is the emergence of special license plates - senior officials, public transport, power structures and special equipment.

but important changes the new Gosstandart was not introduced. The highlights remain the same. Car numbers by region are almost the same as the old regulation that was introduced in 2004.

License plate colors

License plates can be distinguished by the color of the background, which indicates which type of transport the car or motorcycle belongs to:

  1. White - vehicles belonging to ordinary car owners.
  2. Blue - law enforcement agencies, which include the police.
  3. Black - Armed Forces, Emergencies Ministry.
  4. Yellow - public transport.
  5. Red - transit license plates.

Autonumbers that are installed on the machines of the diplomatic corps must have a letter designation - D. Also on such signs there is a country or international organization code. The last three digits indicate the serial number of the car.

License plates of law enforcement agencies

Ukrainian law enforcement agencies have license plates at their disposal, which differ significantly from the signs in the possession of citizens and representatives of the diplomatic corps. They use other letter designations - the Latin symbols A, B, E, K, H, P, C, T, I, M, O, X. All of them are combined with numbers from 1 to 9.

State special transport uses the combination G2. It should be noted that the designation G1 previously corresponded to the National Guard, but after the disbandment, this combination remained free.

The SBU and SSSSZIU also have their own numbers, on which the symbols C, P, T and the number 6. The SBU officers drive their cars with signs under the code C6. The country's Interior Ministry uses numbers F4 and F5. The first combination is for vehicles and the second for trailers. The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Ukraine has a license plate with the designation Ch1, Ch2 and Ch3.

The border troops of Ukraine use Yu for their license plates, and the final digit indicates the location of the military unit. For the defense assistance society, the letter combination Y1 is intended.

In 2007, representatives of law enforcement agencies stopped using special license plates. Some of these designations were transferred to the use of employees of government departments. Most of the reserved license plates can be seen in Kiev, because this is where all the government bodies of Ukraine are located.

Personal (individual) license plates

At the request of the motorist, individual numbers for the vehicle can be ordered at the Central or Regional Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (former MREO) or online at the website hsc.gov.ua. You can also get there detailed information on the procedure for ordering, issuing, paying and receiving individual license plates.

Changes from 2018

In 2018, the Ministry of Justice of the country introduced a standard for license plates for light vehicles. These changes were approved quite recently, they supplemented the existing DSTU 4278: 2012. Now the car signs of Kiev are designated by the letters KA together with the previously approved AA. The numbers from Crimea will be referred to as KK.

Basically, the innovations are based on the fact that the first character in the license plates for the regions of Ukraine is replaced by another letter. So, the letter A is replaced by K, B - H, and C - Latin I. Earlier, the letter designation I was valid only in Kiev, Poltava and their regions. Today this letter has appeared in the license plates of Cherkassy, \u200b\u200bChernigov, Sevastopol, Chernivtsi and their regions.

Owners of cars with old license plates do not need to worry. They do not need to change their old signs for new car numbers. Below you can see a comparative table of automobile numbers of regions - old and new. It indicates exactly how the license plates have changed, what letter designation is valid today.

The car number contains certain information about its owner... It makes it possible to determine the region and the status of the car owner.

When buying, every car enthusiast wants beautiful, memorable numbers for his vehicle. But they can be memorized not only by numbers, but also by letters.

Regular registration number contains three letters and three numbers in the main part... Still, more attention is paid to numbers.

But no less relevant is the question of what the letters on the license plates of Russian cars mean.

Symbols on license plates of a car or other vehicle are basic registration information, which is data about the region and type of transport necessary to identify the driver.

If at least one character is missing on the license plate, or the numbers cannot be read for some other reason, then the owner automotive vehicle will incur an administrative penalty, a certain fine is imposed on him.

The numbers are set in accordance with the rules road traffic, they contain the algorithm and installation time. Location registration number is located on a substrate specially installed on the bumper.

Positioning in any other conspicuous place is considered an offense that will result in a fine. It is important that the license plates are not upside down.

A regular number is conventionally divided into 2 parts. On the left are three letters and three numbers. First comes the letter, then three numbers, followed by the remaining two characters.

In accordance with GOST R 50577-93 - three letters in the number are the series, and the numbers are the number of the registration plate... Russian license plates use only 12 letters of the Russian alphabet.

These are exactly the letters that have an analogue in the Latin alphabet. Among them are A, B, E, K, M, H, O, P, C, T, U, X. On the right side there are also letters and numbers, but the letters are no longer Russian.

The numbers indicate the region of the Russian Federation where the car is registered, there can be 2 or 3 of them... And the letters "RUS" in the car number mean belonging to the country in which it is registered.

These are all signs that are in a regular number. In addition to them, there is only a figure with the colors of the Russian flag.

Registration plates can have one of 5 colors. Some of them talk about the privileges of a motorist and carry information about belonging to subdivisions of the state structure.

In addition to the above, there are license plates that are used by people and organizations close to the government in Russian Federation.

These numbers often give the car an edge on the road. FSB operational vehicles may have different state registration plates.

Deciphering license plates should start with the FSO RF series - EKH99... It appeared instead of EKX77, and EKX177, was used when the summit was held in St. Petersburg, after which it was handed over to the warehouse.

The EKX97 series belongs to the FSO and other departments that have appropriate immunity.

FSB and Presidential Administration vehicles

One part of the signs from the HKX77 series is used by the FSB, and the other was always wanted by wealthy people on their cars, so it was sold.

Cars from the Presidential Property Management Department use license plates from the AOO77, MOO77, BOO77 and SOO77 series.

A vehicle with a beacon indicates that a special postman from the State Security Service of the Russian Federation is moving on it. These cars have no advantages on the roads.

Series numbers AKR177, EKR177, VKR177 and KKR177 mean belonging to those close to the government. These cars used to have state license plates of blue color.

Members of the State Duma have EPE177 series numbers.

After the blue license plates were introduced, the Ministry of Internal Affairs partially sold out the numbers AMR77, KMP77, BMR77, OMP77, MMP77, TMP77 and UMR77.

Only a few of them remained subordinate to this department.

РМР77 - license plates of the prosecutor's office. AMO77 series - almost entirely used by the Moscow City Hall.

Decoding of thieves' license plates on a car distinguishes people who are in power and the corresponding state structures.

Such numbers as HAA99, CAA99, TAA99 and HAA99 are also considered thieves. Their main difference lies in the fact that these signs have both FSB or research institutes employees, and a cool private trader.

The numbers on the numbers play an important role. Nice numbers can be called those that have the same numbers.

The most popular and demanded are three sevens. After all, 7 is considered a lucky number. License plates are also popular, which begin with two zeros - 003, 002 and the like. And also mirrors, for example 101, 202.

But they look very nice and stand out among a large number of cars, vehicles whose license plates contain three identical letters - TTT, UUU, XXX.

The exception is thieves, they are not used by ordinary citizens. Any other identical numbers are not considered thieves. It's just that such license plates are not issued by the MREO, but are sold.

Prices for beautiful rooms are different - 3000 rubles and more. For this amount, you can buy the simplest mirrors or just an extraordinary simple number.

For example, you can hang the number 308 on a Peugeot 308 for free, but practice proves that no one will give it away for nothing. The same is true for those who want to use the numbers that match the model on BMW.

The price of the same numbers starts from 15 thousand rubles, taking into account registration in the commercial MREO... In 2019, prices for identical letters have increased greatly, and together with beautiful numbers, they are practically unattainable for an average citizen.

But it is always worth considering that the presence of cool numbers will not eliminate all possible troubles. After all, the main role is played by the appropriate certificate.

It is best to always follow the traffic rules. Not only your own health and life depends on this, but also the lives of other people involved in road traffic.

Thus, the combination of license plates is based on the principle - 3 letters and three numbers... The letters on the car numbers are deciphered as a series of the license plate, the numbers are the code of the region where the car is registered.

In addition, it should be borne in mind that the meaning of some letters may differ dramatically in different regions of the country.

In Russia, the bulk of the registration plates of the 1993 model, in accordance with GOST R 50577-93. Differences in format and / or size from standard ones are: license plates of route vehicles, military vehicles, vehicles of diplomatic missions, vehicles of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, trailers, construction equipment and motorcycles.

Standard numbers consist of 3 letters and 3 numbers. The letters represent the number plate series and the numbers represent the number. An example is the description of the license plate on this page, A 421 UO 74 According to GOST, 12 Cyrillic letters are allowed for use, which have graphic analogs in the Latin alphabet (A, B, E, K, M, H, O, P, C, T, U, X). On the right side of the license plate, separated by a vertical black line, there are: the flag of the Russian Federation and the inscription "RUS", in the upper code designation of the subject of the Russian Federation where the vehicle was registered.

All used license plates are registered. Each administrative region has its own number, common for all vehicles registered in this county. The total number of sets of registration plates that can be produced for each constituent entity of Russia is determined by GOST and amounts to 1,726,272 pieces.

Initially, only numbers from 01 to 89 were used as region codes, according to the number of regions of the Russian Federation as of January 1, 1993. However, the number of registered cars is increasing every year, and license plates with acceptable combinations have become insufficient. For this reason, a number of subjects of Russia are introducing additional code designations that can be used on signs; first, the issuance of region codes from the ninth ten (9x) (except for code 92) began, and then they switched to three-digit region codes. Three or more region codes are used by Moscow (codes 77, 99, 97, 177, 199, 197, 777), Moscow region (, 90,, 190), Krasnoyarsk Territory ( 24, 84, 88, 124), St. Petersburg (78, 98, 178), Krasnodar Territory ( 23, 93, 123), Perm region (, 81,) and Sverdlovsk region ( 66, 96, 196), while the Krasnodar and Perm Territories received another code "inherited" from the other subjects of the federation that were included in them, 19 subjects use two region codes. This page contains the number from the subject of the Russian Federation: Chelyabinsk region.

After the introduction of the current GOST number previous samples were not seized, for this reason, you can still find cars with Soviet license plates on the roads of Russia: the model of 1980 - of four numbers and three letters on a white background, and even the model of 1958 - of two two-digit numbers, separated by a hyphen, and going behind them are three letters on a black background. Yellow plates of the 1947 model are very rare, often fake on retro cars. On our website, the main part of the registration plates are the numbers of private vehicles (A 421 UO 74). To post information about the car number, a photo of the vehicle, its Make and Model (
