How to put the rubber in the direction of travel. Tire marking Correct tire installation

Modern tires have a certain kind of tread pattern. This pattern can be: nondirectional, directional and asymmetric. Thanks to this variety, sometimes you can get into an unpleasant situation when the car, for some unknown reason, starts to drive to the right or left, while it is configured correctly. In this situation, most likely, during the next "change of shoes" from summer to winter or from winter to summer, the wheel was installed incorrectly. How to determine the direction of rotation of the tire in order to avoid such situations? You will find the answer in this article.

The importance of directional tire fitting for different types of tread.

So, as noted earlier, tires can be nondirectional, directional and asymmetrical.

It is this pattern that determines the exactingness of tires for directional installation:

  • non-directional tires, by the way, the most budgetary option, work the same in any direction of rotation;
  • asymmetric - require careful installation, since such tires have a strictly defined direction of rotation - the inner (indicated on the tire by the word "inside") and the outer side (indicated by the word "outside");
  • directional - the most demanding to the issues of their installation, they have a certain tread pattern, which resembles a "herringbone". This pattern has grooves for water drainage when the tires contact the road surface, due to which the risk of occurrence of such a phenomenon as aquaplaning when the car is moving in wet road surface on high speed, begins to lose contact with the road, is minimal.

That is why the question of the direction of rotation of the tire is most relevant for owners of tires with a directional tread pattern. Fortunately, today almost all manufacturers put “tips” on their tires: large arrows are drawn on their sidewalls, which indicate the required direction of rotation. Although there may be one arrow, then the word "Rotation" will be present next to it.

If they are not there, you should know that tires with a "herringbone" should be installed so that the top of this tree touches the road first, that is, it looks in the direction opposite to the movement of the car.

Please note that in some cases there are tires that have both asymmetric and directional tread patterns. They should be installed in accordance with generally accepted markings.

If you have any difficulties in determining the direction of rotation of the tires, do not hesitate to consult specialists who will help you understand all the nuances, as well as provide more accurate information on this issue.

Approach the issue of installing tires competently and wisely, because your safety depends on it!

It will not be difficult for an experienced motorist to perform such an operation; for beginners, this task will not be easy. Lack of practical experience and theoretical skills can be confusing when the question arises "How to put the rubber in the direction of travel." Let's try to figure it out.

Introductory stage

ATTENTION! Found a completely simple way to reduce fuel consumption! Don't believe me? An auto mechanic with 15 years of experience also did not believe until he tried it. And now he saves 35,000 rubles a year on gasoline!

The beginning installation works necessarily preceded by:

Varieties of tires

Different types of patterns, depending on the direction, combine the tires into groups:

The absence of any media on the tires implies that they do not belong to the category of right-hand and left-hand. In this case, the drawing does not play a decisive role.

Tire and Wheel Mounting Process

First, you should read the instruction manual. Further, sequential assembly operations are carried out.

After the tires are installed on the rims, the wheels are carefully balanced. The operation is performed on a special machine. Its need is due to differences in the weight of the various components of the tire, the so-called error. Its presence is dictated by a specific tire manufacturing technology.

In a state of immobility of the wheels, the error is not perceptible, but immediately makes itself felt in the process of movement. The wheel beats. This deviation is most significant when installing tires on the front wheels.

To eliminate the difference, balancing weights are used, their weight depends on the quality of the tires mounted:

  • expensive tire models offer a higher quality product, the difference reaches a minimum level, which requires a meager amount of balancing weights.
  • The economy option is less practical in this regard. The manufactured products are manufactured on obsolete equipment, which leads to significant errors - up to several tens of grams. In this case, the number of weights increases significantly.

When working with cheap tires, situations arise when it is impossible to balance. In this case, the wheel is mounted on the rear.

Wheel balancing fully confirms the well-known regularity: a low price offers the same quality, and vice versa. Such difficulties lead to imperfections, which provoke "beating" of the wheel as soon as the car starts moving. Therefore, the balancing procedure should be under the personal control of the owner of the machine (if work is performed at a service center).

Recently, motorists have increasingly asked about the "correctness" of mounting "left" and "right" tires. The fact is that with the correct installation of tires on a car, it may seem that the tires are installed on the contrary, asymmetrically. Don't be scared - that's okay. It should be so.

Asymmetric non-directional tires have no direction of rotation, i.e. can be mounted on any car wheel.

The most important thing…

The most important thing is that on all tires (after their installation) you have “ watched"Inscriptions" Outside«.

The designation options may be different:

side can be indicated by the following inscriptions:

1. Internal side:

Side facing inwards

Mount this side inside

Cote Intérieur etc.

2. External the side, in turn, will be designated as follows:

Side facing outwards

Mount this side outside

Cote Extérieur, etc.

Example of marking on the outside of a non-directional asymmetric bus:

Why, actually ...

The task that the designers of such tires set themselves was for two wheels on the axle to "work" as ONE WHOLE.

Asymmetric omnidirectional tires have been developed to optimize highly conflicting tire requirements. They must adjoin the entire plane to a dry road and, at the same time, effectively drain water from the contact zone.

The outer part is specially stiffened to optimize the performance of the tire in high-speed cornering, when good contact helps minimize tread wear.

The inner side of the tire provides stability of effort at the start and in braking, as well as effective removal of water from under the wheel.

Rotation

During operation, it is also recommended to swap asymmetric tires from the front to the rear axle (and vice versa) every 5000-7000 km. This rearrangement is carried out in order to completely avoid the risk of uneven tread wear. It should be remembered that:
- If the tire has a predetermined direction of rotation (indicated by arrows on the sidewall and the word "Rotation"), then the tires should be swapped from the front to the rear axle on the same side of the vehicle (the front right tire is installed at the rear right, the front left - at the rear left) ...
- If the direction of travel of the tire is not specified, then they can be rearranged crosswise, i.e. put the front right tire at the rear left, the front left tire at the rear right, and so on.

The eighth film in a series of informational video clips from the company site. About incessant questions about left and right tires, asymmetric and directional tread patterns. Below is a text version of the video clip.

Directional tread design means that the tires rotate in one direction only. As a rule, the arrow-shaped tread pattern does not change on different parts of the treadmill. These tires provide a high level of grip on wet road surfaces, stable vehicle movement and low level noise.

the asymmetric tread pattern is different on the inside and outside of the treadmill, so the tires have improved performance over the directional tread pattern.

fig. 1 Marking OUTSIDE asymmetric buses

The outer part of the asymmetric tread pattern is made up of larger and more rigid tread blocks that improve the vehicle's cornering performance. The tread blocks on the inside of the treadmill are smaller; they are designed to better drain water and thus improve traction. In addition, a solid longitudinal rib is usually located in the middle part of the tread, which increases the directional stability of the car.

In all cases, tires are specially marked on the sidewall and must be installed according to the indicated information.

Both directional and asymmetric tires are the same and can be fitted to any wheel. It is incorrect to call such tires "right" or "left", because there is a special generally accepted marking that either indicates correct rotation tire, or determines the position of the inside and outside of the tire.

fig. 2 Marking INSIDE asymmetric buses

Obviously, a tire with a directional tread pattern provides improved performance only if it is properly installed and rotates in a the right direction... The tire must be installed in the direction of the arrow (possibly stylized) located on the tire sidewall, and, as a rule, accompanied by the inscription ROTATION (rotation) - see fig. 3 .

asymmetric tires are marked OUTSIDE (outside of the tire) - see fig. 1 and INSIDE (inner side of the tire) - see fig. 2 ... They must be installed on the vehicle in such a way that when approaching the vehicle from either side, the OUTSIDE inscription can always be seen on the sidewall of any tire.

Accordingly, the assembly of asymmetric tires is carried out according to the principle of the inner and outer sides. Installation of tires with directional tread pattern is carried out taking into account the arrow and the inscription "ROTATION" - rotation.

fig. 3 ROTATION marking of directional busbars

Quite rarely, but there are also tires that have both directional and asymmetrical tread pattern, combining the above advantages. Such tires must also be fitted according to generally accepted markings.

If the tire is installed incorrectly, it will not pose a danger, but also distinctive features tread pattern will not show themselves in any way.

If you use a wheel with the wrong installed bus, this should be regarded only as a temporary situation, and the speed of your vehicle should be no more than 80 km / h.

restored from 2007 materials:

While preparing this material, we informed the representative office of Nokian Tires in Russia about the difficulties of some car owners with the installation of asymmetric tires. Especially for visitors to the site, the company has kindly provided information on the installation of "right and left" tires. Therefore, first of all, we post a message from Nokian Tires, and leave our message as an addition.

Officially from Nokian Tires: Installation of asymmetric non-directional busbars is carried out according to the principle of inner and outer side Corresponding marking can be found on the bus itself. OUTSIDE - outer side tires, INSIDE is the inner side of the bus. According to this designation inside the tire must be installed towards the car itself, and the outside - from the car.

Since the tires are non-directional, there are no “right” and “left” tires for a car. They are all the same and there is no difference from their direction of rotation.

As an addition (news from March 19, 2009): Due to the large number of questions and difficulties about the "right and left" tires, especially about the model, we answer: no right and left tires. The tire has an outer and an inner side. Which are designated as Outside (external) and Inside (internal). Find these markings on your tire.

Tires are an important part of a car. The comfort and safety of movement on the roads depends on them. Mounting tires is a fairly simple matter, but not everyone knows how to choose and install the right rubber. The advice of experienced experts at the kolesaoptom.com online store will help you cope with this task.

Before installation modern tires on the machine, it is important to remember that their installation is carried out with an orientation to the following parameters:

  • direction of rotation;
  • tread pattern;
  • inner and outer side of rubber;
  • tire installation side.

How to fit directional tires

Now directional tires are produced by companies such as Goodyear, Gislaved, Continental, Winter, Kumho and others. They are diagonal and radial and have a tread pattern located in a certain direction. This pattern looks like a herringbone as standard. Usually, the direction of rotation of these types of tires is indicated by arrows printed on the sidewall of the rubber.

Installation such car shoes must be done carefully and strictly according to the arrows. On the disc, such rubber is fought using a jack. It helps to raise the car to the desired height. Before installation, the condition of nuts, drums, brake discs, hub. Tires should be installed alternately. What to do with the tire if there is no arrow on the side of the wheel? In this case, refer to the "ROTATION" marking.

During any reinstallation, the wheel bolts are partially tightened first. The nuts are fully tightened only after the car is lowered from the jack. Next, the pressure in the wheels is checked. Now some manufacturers make tires with a pressure sensor. Motorists can find out their indicators at on-board computer your car.

A minority of manufacturers currently manufacture tires with non-directional tread patterns. This view is called symmetrical. This rubber is installed on either side as standard.

How to fit winter tires

According to the law of our country, each vehicle owner is obliged to change tires twice a year. Therefore, the question of how to install winter tires is repeated in the summer, only in another modification. Both winter and summer tires are installed in the same way: in the direction of rotation of the wheels and along the tread. The procedure for changing tires should be carried out before the beginning of the winter and summer months. Do not use directional studded tires in June, July and August. This requirement applies to all vehicles without exception.

Currently, our motorists are in high demand winter tires the Viatti brand. These tires do not have spikes, but they perform well on domestic roads. Winter tires famous brand belongs to the range of asymmetric tires. It should be installed strictly according to the "Outside" label. This marking must be on the outside of the wheel.

"Changing shoes" car tires for the winter, ensure proper storage summer tires... A regular garage is suitable for this. You can also store tires without any problems on the balcony or in the closet. The main thing is to thoroughly wash the rubber before storage, treat it with a special compound, release the pressure and mark. Tires without rims are a good idea to keep hanging. Rim tires can be folded horizontally.

How to fit asymmetric tires

You can easily recognize asymmetric tires by their tread. The pattern of such tires on the inside and outside is different. Wheels of this type have the inscriptions "Outside" and "Inside" on the sides. When installing such tires, they are guided by this marking.

Install asymmetric tires so that the "outside" sign is on the outside of the car. The word "inside", if properly installed, becomes invisible to the motorist, as it is located on the inside of the car.

How are left and right tires installed

More recently, Nokian NRV and Nokian NRZi have produced asymmetric tires for the left and right wheel... At the moment, such rubber is difficult to find, but there are exceptions. Its installation requires special attention from the tire fitter.

When installing such tires, do not lose sight of the inscriptions "Right" or "Left". In no case should you install left tires on the right wheel and vice versa. The absence of these inscriptions greatly simplifies the installation of rubber.

Is it possible to use tires with different tread

Many Russian car owners are trying to minimize the cost of car maintenance. Often they do this by saving on tires. For example, when the right tire is worn out, car owners do not buy a new set. They get by with one new tire. Thus, traffic rules are violated, according to which models with different tread patterns, tires of different sizes and designs are not installed on one axle.

The temptation to install different tires sometimes it arises because you do not want to choose new ones, because there are still old ones in the garage, a friend gave a few of them, and at work, colleagues sold a couple of more impellers for next to nothing. All of this can be used to make a wonderful kit, why waste time choosing and buying brand new rubber? With the online store kolesaoptom.com, you will not spend a lot of time on this, because in a few minutes specialists will help you choose the models you need, and delivery throughout Russia will allow you not to go anywhere for them.

Rubber replacement and balancing

Installing any tires is a simple process. To do this, you only need to have physical strength, tools at hand and maximum care. Every home tire changer, when carrying out service work, is also obliged not to forget about balancing.

This procedure improves the safety of the vehicle. During her wheels vehicle balanced with lead weights. The tire is put on a special cone. The wheels of the balancing machine are spun. Lead elements move periodically on the disc. Thus, a rough balancing is carried out. A more accurate result is obtained as standard with an electronic machine.
