However, would the FX have become so popular in Russia from the very beginning if it hadn't hidden flaming five-liter lighters under the hood? It is great for a universal SUV, but for premium crossover... Yes, he has a big plus - he eats a little, less than 12 liters per hundred, but after all, the bullfighter, to whom FX is drawn as a projection of the owner, does not suit German rationality. Maybe it is in vain that the Infiniti brand ignores the topic of hybrids?

A new one could probably forever change attitudes towards gasoline engines internal combustion... But what we know for sure, it is already able to change the compression ratio from 8: 1 to 14: 1, thereby very close to the fuel efficiency indicators of diesel engines.


Nissan's luxury division will officially unveil its development, a turbocharged variable compression ratio (VC-T) engine, next month. It took more than two decades to perfect the technology, and the result is a high-performance engine model that the developers claim was able to maintain both fuel efficiency (diesel) and power (gasoline engine).

Here's how it works, let's take a quick look at using the technology using an example of a circuit:


Meaning new technology lies in the fact that by changing the length of the piston stroke, the engine can infinitely vary the compression ratio in the range from 8: 1 to 14: 1. When the electronic motor controller thinks you need more power, the drive lever acts on the control shaft, changing the position of the multi-link system of levers rotating around the main bearing of the connecting rod, lowering the piston in the cylinder. This reduces the compression ratio, which allows the turbocharger to safely pressurize without the risk of skipping cycles or knocking. But when riding top gear at high speeds, the system will work in the opposite way, creating conditions for the highest possible compression in order to improve fuel consumption figures. Electronic system gas distribution of the new engine and system direct injection fuels additionally allow instant switching between the regular cycle and the Atkinson cycle.

The idea behind SAAB was to create an engine with two blocks that could push the cylinder head towards the block using hydraulic drive to increase the compression ratio. The ability to change the displacement allowed the engine to run on three types of fuel: gasoline, diesel fuel or alcohol.


The SVC project has been shelved after GM's acquisition, making Infiniti's VC-T technology the first of its kind to appear in production.

The block is cast from modified cast iron, which gives it 75% more rigidity than a conventional alloy part, and the weight is reduced by 22%. Torque of 550 Nm is already available at 1,750 rpm. The 5-liter petrol V8, the most powerful in the lineup, has 500 Nm at 4400 rpm.

The first impression of the FX is smooth and enjoyable. It floats through the streets of Munich like a ship, in a traffic flow, in German correct. At idle, no rattling, and a little added to the gas - I hear the "gasoline" bass. Exhaust system specially tuned, achieving a noble sound. The suspension is firm but not stiff, although the SUV sits on 20-inch wheels (redesigned this year). But in Russia, with its quality asphalt, the sensations can change. Acceleration is confident and just as comfortable. On the unlimited autobahn, the car easily holds 170 km / h, without annoying yaw or swing. Average consumption of 11.4 liters per hundred when driving around the city, winding rural roads and highways is quite acceptable.

Diesel FX will suit those who travel a lot and are indifferent to very fast acceleration. But will they buy a car in Russia? It depends on the marketers whose job it is to create an appropriate image. Prices for this class are not sky-high - from 2,590,000 to 2,954,000 rubles. The main thing is for the off-road vehicle to withstand the competition with the Germans. After all, they are selling diesel cars here too. The example infected the Japanese. But they, like in Europe, will have to catch up, which is always difficult.

LOOKING FOR THE FUTURE

The main external difference of FX 2012 model year - a radiator grill in the style of the Infinity-Essen concept (photo above), presented on the 79th International Motor Show in Geneva. Its 600-horsepower petrol-electric engine seemed to hint: expect something sporty and powerful in the model range.

This "something" will be "FX Vettel" (FX Vettel, photo below) with a 420 ‑ horsepower 5 ‑ liter V8 ( ZR, 2012, No. 1, p. 127 ), which will turn from a project into a product. Now they are discussing the quota of cars for Russia for 2013 and prices.

The exclusive, created by the creative director of the brand Shiro Nakamura in collaboration with the Red Bull Racing racing team and its first number - two-time world champion in Formula 1 racing Sebastian Vettel, will be more expensive ordinary carequipped with a 5-liter engine.
