Lada turned out to be one of the first brands to share the results of their work over the past year. AvtoVAZ has something to brag about: sales of cars with a rook on the front end increased by 17%, while the market, according to preliminary data, added only 12%. In total, 311,588 cars were sold in a year against 266,296 copies in 2016. Equally important is the fact that Lada's market share for the first time in the past six years again exceeded one-fifth: 20.5% versus 19.6% a year earlier (the minimum figure was in 2014 - 16.1%).
Granta remained the bestseller of the brand (93,686 cars), but the demand for it grew by only 7%. But with Vesta, the auto giant hit the bull's eye: an increase of 40% to 77291 cars! The success was also facilitated by the change of generations of the two main competitors (Solaris and Rio), which became noticeably more expensive. SW and SW Cross station wagons have hardly influenced the overall demand: only 5,518 five-door cars were sold in November and December, and dealers now have a shortage of such cars. The third and fourth places in the corporate rating are taken by Largus (41,741 vehicles, including vans) and XRAY (33,319).
Other indicators are also interesting. For example, 45% of Lada cars last year were sold with the involvement of state programs, and 38% were sold using its own Lada Finance program. Corporate sales are up 32%: legal entities 42834 Ladas were handed over, including a large batch of Largus for the Russian Post and Grant sedans for car sharing.
And it is even more curious that Moscow and the Moscow Region have become the leaders among the regions in terms of Lada car sales! Last year, 29,861 vehicles were sold here, that is, 9.6% of the total. This is a significant indicator that speaks of the growth of the brand's prestige, because a few years ago Tatarstan was the leader among the regions, which now occupies the third line.

Needless to say, the latest press releases and information leaks from insiders of the Togliatti plant paint plans that are truly Napoleonic. Someone is happy about this - they say, finally, the Russian car industry has begun to demonstrate ambitions, which must necessarily affect the image of the local market as such.
Others are skeptical - it has already become a tradition for this brand to issue such "news" with a greater or lesser degree of intensity. But are they being implemented in practice? And if so, what is the end result?
Be that as it may, 2019 will show everything and determine who was right in the first place. In essence, it is planned to carry out a large-scale campaign to reform the conveyors and the corresponding model range, to abolish many modifications that strongly overlap with the price list products, and, in general, to make offers less multicomponent, more structured and understandable to the common man in the street.
As part of this, a massive restyling of all current versions will be carried out, and if economic troubles do not interfere, several recent successful concepts will be introduced into the series.
Of the updates are expected, first of all, the redesign of the "Niva". Now the only all-wheel drive SUV of the brand will switch to an updated imported platform, acquire a new exterior, in the style of corporate conceptual angular solutions, which will become sporty and, I would like to believe, modern.
True, it is not a fact that there will be strong advances in motors and the rest of the technical part, but at least a little bit everything must be improved.
The reports about Granta are very contradictory. On the one hand, since in 2019 they are going to put a crossover based on Kalina on the series, and in general, its entire modification range should be transferred to grant rails, in theory, they should first change the platform for all this, as planned.
Other sources claim that it will be transferred to the soplatform with the future Logan B0 no earlier than the 21st year. How it will be in reality is difficult to guess. But, at least a cosmetic restyling over the next two years, the car will certainly wait.
Vesta SW Cross
The Cross is an off-road-styled version of the SW station wagon.
This model will swing at the uniqueness of the unparalleled hybrid of a station wagon and a crossover. Which, of course, cannot but evoke allusions to the sad fate of Kalina Cross.
Although in the body of Vesta, the SUV should look much more organic due to its large size and initially better predisposition to sportiness and endurance.
