Automotive industry - we have something to be proud of! New developments, new productions. Hit parade

When choosing a car, many buyers face a difficult choice: to buy a used foreign car or to buy a new model of a domestic automaker from the showroom. If 10 years ago this question would have been rather rhetorical, then today it makes sense to study the market well, because the new products of the Russian car industry, which should enter the salons of the Russian Federation during 2018-2019, are in many ways not inferior to the cars of European, Asian and American manufacturers. Of the advantages of a car developed by the best car manufacturers in Russia, it is worth noting:

  • reliability and readiness for harsh operating conditions;
  • affordable cost;
  • stylish modern design;
  • excellent technical characteristics;
  • inexpensive repair and maintenance.

New products of AvtoVAZ 2018-2019

Public Joint Stock Company "AVTOVAZ" is the largest Russian car manufacturer, more than 50% of which are currently owned by the Renault-Nissan alliance. The result of cooperation between engineers and designers of the two enterprises will be new models that will surprise you with a spectacular exterior, comfortable interior and high functionality.

Lada Kalina

The popular model in 2018 will receive new design, as well as a number of significant technical improvements.

The car has slightly increased in size, received a stylish front bumper, an upgraded chassis, more comfortable salon in a 2-color version, high-quality noise isolation and a number of modern functions to assist the driver.

As before, the car will have three body options:

  1. compact hatchback;
  2. classic sedan;
  3. roomy station wagon (Cross).

Also in 2019 it will be possible to purchase a sports version of this model, called Lada Kalina NFR. IN basic configuration the car will be front-wheel drive, but the manufacturer promises that the sporty Kalina can get all-wheel drive as an option.

Lada Vesta

Soon, several new versions of the front-wheel drive will arrive at car dealerships at once. passenger car Lada Vesta.

  • classic SW wagon;
  • off-road models SW Cross and Cross Sedan;
  • extended Signature sedan.

All models will receive an elegant body shape with a roofline sharply lowering to the rear pillars, a recognizable x-shaped front end design, stylish interior trim, a wide range of useful functions, as well as economical power units with a capacity of 106 and 122 hp.

Lada largus

In 2018, the Lada Largus station wagon will be sold under the name Dacia Logan Stepway. In addition to the new name, the model will receive an updated exterior, stylish interior design and a number of modern technical solutions that will significantly improve the technical characteristics and functionality of the car.

The new Largus is planned to be released in three modifications:

  1. 5-seater station wagon;
  2. 7-seater minivan;
  3. van.

The 2019 Largus line will not do without new items with improved characteristics, because it is these models that attract the attention of European motorists to the models of the domestic auto industry. Spacious, roomy, reliable and ready for the realities of Russian roads, Largus Cross should go to showrooms in the second half of 2018.

Lada priora

With the release of a number of new models, interest in the Priora slightly decreased, which pushed the manufacturer to the next restyling.

The 2018 and 2019 car received:

  • a completely new design of the front bumper and radiator grille in the characteristic X-style;
  • updated LED headlights;
  • reinforced body;
  • comfortable lounge;
  • economical gasoline engines of 1.6 and 1.8 liters.

The rest of the model will remain the same, because the management of AVTOVAZ has more than once announced the termination of Priora production, and therefore finds it inappropriate for a more substantial restyling, requiring large investments.

Lada granta

Reliability and economy, classic design and good driving performance, reasonable prices on the expendable materials and spare parts, as well as the availability of models with both manual transmission and automatic transmission, raised Grant last year to the first positions in the ratings of domestic cars. Granta became the best-selling VAZ model in 2017, and the updated version took the place of the most anticipated novelty of the Russian car industry, the release of which should start during 2018-2019.

The new Granta will acquire a characteristic X-face, LED running lights, slightly modified body geometry and improved aerodynamic performance. The dynamics of the car will also delight with rather modest consumption indicators (7.2 - 9.8 liters).

Connoisseurs of drive and speed will be able to opt for the sports version of the Granta model, for which a powerful 114-horsepower power unit is intended.

Lada 4x4 or Niva-3

The well-known Niva will be replaced by a new car with off-road qualities and all-wheel drive Lada 4 × 4 2018. A large and powerful crossover with a charismatic appearance and impressive technical characteristics promises to be a revolutionary model for the domestic automotive industry.

The concept of the novelty, which received the big name "California", was presented to the public in the fall of 2016 as part of the Moscow International Motor Show. What will be the serial all-wheel drive Lada, we will be able to evaluate this fall. Previously, the model was supposed to receive two modifications:

  1. City crossover with plug-in all-wheel drive.
  2. SUV with permanent FWD, 6-speed manual transmission and low gear.

Lada XRAY

In 2019, the beloved XRAY will receive significant changes, turning it into a stylish and ready-to-travel crossover not only along the ideal streets of megacities.

At the end of this year, two new models should appear in Russian showrooms:

  1. XRAY Cross;
  2. XRAY Sport.

The cars received not only a noticeable restyling, which added sporty dynamism and masculine aggressiveness to the stylish X, but also a serious revision of systems and assemblies, which had a very positive effect on the main indicators of the car.

The main difference between the sporty and comfortable urban version will be in the powertrains. For the Cross model, these will be economical engines developing power of about 114 and 123 hp, and for the Sport modification, a turbocharged 150 hp engine.

Lada X-Code

Another conceptual crossover that has become the trendsetter of the new fashionable X-style of Lada cars. The stylish exterior with a distinct off-road character is complemented by noteworthy technical specifications.

If outwardly, the X-Code somewhat echoes in style with the new XRAY models, then in the cabin it is really unique. The combination of minimalism and high functionality in combination with high-quality materials and modern technologies will make the interior of the conceptual novelty of the automotive industry unique and unlike any other domestic car released in 2018 and 2019.

Also, the car will receive a hybrid power plant.

New UAZ 2018-2019

The slogan of the company: "UAZ - Natural Drive" / "UAZ - the Nature of Movement" is fully implemented by the engineers and designers of the company. Despite fierce competition, new models of SUVs assembled at the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant are in demand not only in Russia, but also in many European countries.

UAZ Patriot

UAZ will start updating the model range with the most popular SUV model. The project of the car is already ready and on the network you can find many preliminary renders of the exterior and interior of the new Patriot.

As you can see in the photo, the car will receive a new design of bumpers and a radiator grille, an updated shape of the headlights, practical roof rails, large rims (up to 18 inches) and functional interior filling.

Will delight the conquerors of off-road and modified technical part because the 2019 Patriot will receive:

  • more reliable chassis;
  • line of powerful power units meeting the requirements of EURO-6;
  • mechanical or automatic transmission gear;
  • multifunctional assistant in the form of the Vision ADAS system;
  • a complete set of passive and active safety systems.

The updated model will be available in 4 trim levels.

UAZ Profi

The company's engineers and designers are working on a new model that will receive:

  • more spacious 4-door five-seater cab;
  • shortened cargo platform;
  • new design of the front;
  • improved driving characteristics;
  • reliable 2.7 liter gasoline aspirated.

The exact date of the start of sales of the main competitor of Gazelle has not yet been announced. But most likely the car will become available towards the end of 2018 or in the first half of 2019.

"Cortege"

An ambitious project, which was first talked about a few years ago in 2018, will be implemented.

The line of premium cars for top officials of the state will include:

  1. sedans;
  2. limousines;
  3. off-road vehicles;
  4. minibuses.

First government limousine domestic production was already presented to the head of state in July 2017 and in the near future the first cars of the series should go to the government garage.

Of course, representatives of such an elite class will not be launched into mass production, but the manufacturers promise that in 2019 those wishing to become owners of the Cortege series models will be able to purchase a custom-made car, choosing the desired configuration in the optimal price range.

The cost of the cars will vary from 6 to 25 million rubles.

The possible release of a stylish crossover in the popular SUV segment was first discussed back in 2015. Preliminary images of the car were registered with Rospatent.

But it is difficult to say what the expected domestic crossover UAZ will really be. It is known that the Italian studio Pininfarina won the competition to create the exterior of the novelty. But the sketches and designs submitted for the competition are carefully hidden.

At the moment, the project has been suspended, but there is no talk of its closure yet.

New GAZ 2019

In the near future, GAZ Group plans not only to increase sales in Russia, but also to enter the markets of Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East, offering competitive models in such popular market segments as:

Conclusion

Most of the new products are exhibited by domestic automakers at the Moscow international motor show, which is held every two years. What production cars will look like and what will impress technical innovation models of 2019, we will find out at the end of August by visiting MIAS-2018, which will traditionally be held at the Crocus Expo IEC.

It became known that the new generation Nissan Qashqai can get an electric version of the car. Automotive engineers regularly introduce new technologies and devices to provide greater safety, comfort, or at least to entertain drivers. We are talking about the developments of the future that are being tested on the roads today.

Cars
with autopilot function

For the past 5 years, all of the world's leading automakers have been developing autonomous vehicles. Ford self-parking concept car. Audi, BMW, Nissan, Honda, GM and Mercedes regularly report that their prototype self-driving cars are doing thousands of miles in testing. Volvo showed its model in Gothenburg, which, thanks to sensors, GPS and other technologies, virtually eliminates the possibility of getting into an accident. Recently, Toyota announced its entry into the ranks of the developers of self-driving cars, and Tesla Motors has made that it will show its first "drone" in three years.

"Googlemobil"
In action

Google is considered one of the industry leaders. The company's system uses information collected by Google Street View, video cameras, a LIDAR sensor installed on the roof, radars in the front of the car, and a sensor connected to one of the rear wheels.

Most companies say that for car enthusiasts, such cars will become available by 2020. What will change with their appearance? First of all, robotic machines will save lives. A computer that has replaced a person at the wheel will be able to simultaneously track all objects on the road and instantly respond to emergency situations. But are people ready to completely entrust control to the machine?

Brian Raymer

Transportation Expert from Massachusetts Institute of Technology

“People can put up with and deal with people who make mistakes, but we don't know how to put up with robot errors,” said transportation expert Brian Reimer of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. "How many people would agree to get on a plane without a pilot, even if it is known that half of the time the pilots are sitting in the cockpit, idle, just watching the automation?"

That a computer driver is safer than a human driver must be proven in thousands of authorities before lawmakers give full freedom to autopilot vehicles. At the moment, such cars are allowed to be tested on public roads by the laws of Japan and three US states ( California, Florida and Nevada)... The UK is expected to be on this list by the end of the year.

Energy-storing body panels

Exxon Mobil predicts that by 2040, half of all new vehicles coming off the assembly line will be hybrid. However, the hybrid cars There is one problem: batteries, the energy of which is used to run an electric motor, are very bulky and heavy, even with the current development of lithium-ion batteries.

In Europe, a group of nine automakers are currently testing body panels that can store energy and charge faster than conventional batteries. They are made from polymer carbon fiber and resin, and they are durable yet flexible. Thanks to the development, the weight of vehicles can be reduced by 15%.

GAZ A-Aero Experienced '1934 Produced in a single copy

GAZ A-Aero was based on the chassis of the serial GAZ A in 1932. The body was made from scratch and consisted of a wooden frame, sheathed with steel sheets. In 1934, it was different from everything that the domestic industry produced: streamlined fenders with half-recessed headlights, a V-shaped windshield tilted at 45 degrees, completely covered with fairings rear wheels and a large rear overhang.
The engine is a standard GAZ A engine with a volume of 3285 cm3. equipped with an aluminum cylinder head, and increased the compression ratio to 5.45, increasing its power to 48 hp. The results of running tests were revolutionary - fuel consumption was reduced by more than 25%, and the maximum speed increased from 80 km / h to 106 km / h compared to the GAZ A.
GAZ A-Aero itself was transferred Automotive Council CA for study. Here the traces of the unique car are lost.

GAZ M1 Taxi Experienced '1936

A version of a taxi based on the GAZ M1, produced at the plant in 1936. Externally, it was distinguished by the "Taxi" identification light, a folding luggage rack was installed at the back, because of which the spare wheel was moved to the left front fender. The car was not mass-produced, and the role of taxis in large cities was performed by ordinary "Emki" equipped with a taximeter.

GAZ 31 Experienced '1938

An experimental version of the GAZ 30 three-axle chassis, designed for installation on wheeled armored cars PB 7, BA 3 and BA 6. The frame of the vehicle was reinforced with steel cross members of the cargo platform lags welded to it. The geometry of cross-country ability is improved due to freely rotating spare wheels, installed in the same way as on armored vehicles so that they serve as side rollers. An additional 50-liter gas tank was installed. Unlike serial trucks, a GAZ M1 engine with a gas pump was installed on the GAZ 31.

GAZ VM Skilled '1938 Produced in 2 units

An experimental half-track vehicle was created in NATI on the basis of the GAZ M1. The design of the rear tracked bogie was the same as that tested on the NATI VZ cargo truck. The car could move not only on rubber tracks, but also on wheels.

GAZ GL-1 '1938 Produced in a single copy

In 1938, GAZ GL-1 was modernized: the car received a 6-cylinder GAZ 11 engine with an aluminum head, a new radiator lining, a closed body with an asymmetric cowl-fairing, aerodynamic wheel covers. The mass increased to 1100 kg, despite the fact that the GL-1 became single. The engine power was increased to 100 hp. due to the use of two carburetors. In 1940, the head of the road testing department of GAZ, Arkady Fedorovich Nikolaev, developed a speed of 161.87 km / h by car and set a USSR record. GAZ GL-1 was disassembled in 1938. Its chassis and engine were partially used to build a new racing car, the GL-3.

GAZ 67-420 Experienced '1943 Made in a single copy e

On October 18, 1943, the GAZ bus shop showed an experimental version of the GAZ 67-420 with a fully closed body (wooden top, sidewalls, doors), more practical and convenient in our weather conditions. The weight of the car has increased by 25 kg, the rest of the indicators have not changed.
They did not build this car serially, but it became the reason for the creation of many options for a closed body for repair facilities.

BA 64Z Experienced '1943 Produced in a single copy

Experimental armored car on a ski-caterpillar track with a Nezhdanovsky propeller. The letter "Z" means "Winter".

VICTORY - US 1948 Produced in a single copy

Experimental sample-carrier of aggregates of the future model ZIM GAZ 12.

GAZ 12A ZiM Phaeton Experienced '1949 Produced in 2 units

Two experimental ZiM models with a phaeton body were built at the beginning of 1949, tests took place in the summer of the same year and were presented in Moscow to the country's top leadership. The fabric roof was stretched over a tubular frame, the celluloid windows were removable. The necessary reinforcement of the open monocoque body led to an increase in its mass and, accordingly, to a deterioration in dynamics. The car did not go into production.

GAZ "Torpedo" ‘1951

The SG-2 racing car is better known to the public as "Torpedo-GAZ" (1951). was created after "Victory-sport" by designer A. A. Smolin. He abandoned the Pobeda body, albeit a reworked one, creating a completely new, drop-shaped aluminum monocoque body using aviation technology. The car turned out to be lighter than the "Victory-sport", while it had better streamlining. Its frame is a set of duralumin profiles, cladding is made of aluminum sheet. On the SG-2 "GAZ-Torpedo" two all-Union speed records were set.

GAZ 48 (MAV 3) '1952

An experimental model of an all-wheel drive amphibian with a larger displacement and characteristics that differed from the GAZ 011. In 1952, two cars were built: one with a GAZ 12 engine with the body of a serial GAZ 011 - for testing on land and off-road, the second copy - with monocoque body catamaran type - for hydrodynamic tests. None of the prototypes justified either installing a more powerful engine or building a more complex body. Instead of the declared 16 km / h, the amphibian on the water developed 10, 5 km / h - half a kilometer per hour more than the GAZ 011.

An experimental version of a half-track truck on the GAZ 51 chassis with a replaceable propulsion system. Several samples were built after testing cycles of the experimental GAZ 41, which showed a low resource and inexpediency in normal, non-road conditions. Several options for tracked bogies were proposed, which, if necessary, could be installed on the standard GAZ 51 and GAZ 63 instead of the rear axle wheels. They differed in the configuration and size of the tracks - metal and rubber-metal.

GAZ 51 Snow and swamp-going vehicle Experienced '1953-54

GAZ TR was established in 1954. The car had a drop-shaped aerodynamic body, or rather a frameless single fuselage, sheathed with heat-treated aluminum sheets. It had a small vertical keel of directional stability, as well as lateral aerodynamic planes - "fins", as A.A. called them. Smolin, the leading designer of this apparatus. These "fins" served to fasten the aerodynamic planes-aileron, which, while moving on high speeds it was possible to change the aerodynamic characteristics of the apparatus. On the sides of the GAZ TR hull were the air intakes of the RD-500 turbojet engine, which had a thrust of 1590 kg. In the early 1950s, the engine was used to power the nascent jet aircraft. Chassis GAZ TR had a 4-wheel chassis with independent suspension of all wheels from GAZ 12 ZiM with front steerable wheels. At the same time, the car did not have driving wheels due to the lack of a direct mechanical connection between the engine and the vehicle's transmission. The well-known race car driver M.A. Metelev, by that time a two-time champion of the USSR in motorsport. The design speed of the vehicle was supposed to be about 500 km / h, but due to the lack of a specially prepared track and high-speed tires, the maximum speed under the test drive program should not exceed 300 km / h. The tests of the apparatus were discontinued for various reasons. Later, attempts were made to resume them, but the topic was finally closed.

GAZ M-73 Experienced '1955 Produced in 2 units

A compact all-wheel drive car, conceptually similar to the GAZ M-72, was designed by the group of G.M. Wasserman. The machines were tested in 1955. The car was intended for rural leaders, for example, collective farm chairmen. The capacity of GAZ did not allow to expand production, so one of the samples was transferred to the MZMA, where it was used to create the Moskvich 410.

GAZ 62B Experienced '1956

In the spring of 1956, a prototype model GAZ-62B (8x8) was built in the experimental workshop of GAZ in order to search for transmission schemes, independent suspension, off-center wheel gears and sealed brakes for the upcoming 8x8 all-terrain vehicle. Leading designer - V.N. Kuzovkin, aggregator designers R.G. Zavorotny, I.V. Irkhin, E.V. Olkhov, B.N. Pankratov and others.
GAZ-62B had a carrying capacity of 1200 kg, its gross weight with a load was 4167 kg. Wheelbase- 3450 mm, track of all wheels - 1668 mm, ground clearance - 425 mm. The car was turned by four wheels of the front bogie with a base of 1200 mm. With the GAZ-12 engine (94.5 hp), the car developed a maximum speed of 80.2 km / h. From the GAZ-62 model of 1952, a transfer case, 10.00-16 ″ tires, a windshield, elements of the front fenders, hood and radiator lining were used, as well as innovative cam limited-slip differentials in the main gears and sealed brakes. The tires had an adjustable pressure.

GAZ 16A Experienced '1962

The GAZ 16A car with aerodynamic unloading was created at GAZ in 1962 under the leadership of the leading designer A.A. Smolin. The essence of the idea was to teach an ordinary car to overcome small impassable abysses using an air cushion. For this purpose, the body of the car was shaped to hold the area underneath high blood pressure without the use of a fence. This was done in order to combine the advantages in one device ordinary car(economy and resource when driving on normal roads) and hovercraft in part high cross-country ability(with her huge expense fuel, noise and visibility). A car rushing along the road at a speed of up to 170 km / h (the engine developed a power of 190 hp), when it encountered an obstacle insurmountable for the wheels, spun the pumping propellers, rose 150 mm above the supporting surface and crawled the obstacle at a snail speed of 40 km / h. TsAGI specialists (V.I.Khanzhonkov) also took part in the development of the car, who helped to give the car an almost perfectly streamlined shape. The result was, as expected, intermediate in the opposite direction. A completely oversized car that can hardly fit on a normal road - and a completely irrational hovercraft that consumes the power of the lifting propellers.

GAZ 2304 "Burlak" Experienced ‘1993-94

A utility vehicle developed on the basis of GAZ 31029. On the basis of this model, a pickup and a utility van GAZ 2304, as well as an isothermal van, were planned. All machines had a carrying capacity of 700 kg. The Burlak cabin could accommodate up to 8 passengers. GAZ intended to produce "Burlak" in three modifications: a cargo van, a cargo-passenger van, and special vehicles for the police and ambulance. In the future, "Burlak" could be equipped with a dump platform. As power plant these cars were supposed to be both gasoline and diesel engines. Trailers were also developed for the new Volga family - freight gas 8156 and transformable into a dacha GAZ 8160. Tests of GAZ 2304 "Burlak" were completed in 1994, in the same year it was presented to the public at the autumn Nizhny Novgorod fair. The model was planned to be launched into mass production in 1995, but at that time there was no free capacity for production.

"Motohata-96" on the chassis of GAZ 33021 ‘1996

The Motohata project owes its birth to a Moscow company of the same name. The developers decided to use the GAZ 33021 "GAZelle" chassis as a base for the camper, as a result of which the car had to be cheaper than its foreign counterparts and, importantly, cheaper to maintain and repair. Kurgan was chosen for the serial production of the camper bus factory represented by its subsidiary Vika LLP. The residential module is made using the technologies used in Kurgan - the frame is welded from steel rectangular sections and sheathed with aluminum outer panels.

GAZ 3103 "Volga" Prototype '1997 Produced in a single copy

Water injection into cylinders

Pour water into the combustion chamber ?! In the past, Chrysler, General Motors, Saab dabbled in this. And recently this idea was revived by Bosch under the name WaterBoost. The nozzle sprays a small portion of water into the intake manifold under the ignition of the combustible mixture, and this cools the combustion chamber in extreme heat or at high loads and engine speeds. But why is this necessary? Even a modern engine to cool the combustion chambers injects fuel into them, which evaporates and takes heat. And replacing fuel with water allows, according to the company, to reduce fuel consumption by 13% and reduce CO2 emissions by 4% - in our age of hard struggle for the environment and economy, these are significant figures.

The water supply itself is enough for more than 2,000 km. Along the way, water injection also adds about 5% of the turbo engine power due to oxygenation of the forced air. Bosch believes WaterBoost will work best on compact three- and four-cylinder engines. But the first to try this decision on the 500-horsepower sports coupe BMW M4 GTS with a 3-liter biturbo "six". Are the cars next in line? However, Bosch is still deciding whether this system will work in winter. But given that the minders are already close to the limits of the internal combustion engine - the game can be worth the candle.

Benzodiesel

Already in 2019, a new Mazda3 with a Skyactive-X compressor engine, which combines the qualities of gasoline and diesel engines, will enter the world markets. New Mazda 2-liter engines differ in almost "diesel" compression ratio: compared to atmospheric Skyactive-G, it is increased from 14: 1 to 15: 1. Fuel injection now also takes place at almost "diesel" pressure, which reaches 1000 bar. Another feature of the new engine family is the SPCCI (Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition) duty cycle, i.e. spark ignition controlled compression ignition.

Mazda expects the new engine to be 20-30% more economical and 10-20% more torque. The expected output is about 190 hp. and 230 Nm.

In this cycle, some fuel is injected on the intake stroke to form an ultra-lean homogenous mixture. Then, at the end of the compression stroke, another portion of gasoline is injected, a spark is supplied and a so-called "ignition" charge is formed around the spark plug: it raises the pressure in the combustion chamber and ignites the lean mixture. Mazda uses this cycle at low to medium loads with an air-fuel ratio of 30: 1, although usually gasoline engines use more fuel at a 15: 1 ratio. At high loads, Skyactive-X works as conventional motor spark ignition.

Smart Tire Sensors

Tire pressure sensors are no surprise today. But Continental recently expanded the capabilities of this familiar device by developing a new electronic system informing about the state of tires (Electronic Tire Information System). In it, a special sensor is not installed on wheel rim, but it is already introduced at the production stage into the tire itself, under the tread band - it can no longer be damaged at the tire fitting.

Taking into account the rolling and deformation nature of the tire, such a sensor reports not only the pressure, but also the amount of tread wear and even the degree of wheel load. That is, the automatics can complain not only about overload or a drop in tire pressure, but it will also tell the driver when it is necessary to change the tires "for wear". By the way, in April 2018, Continental announced that eTIS sensors in the future will also warn the driver about the risk of aquaplaning, and the stabilization system will be activated along the way.

"Mirrored" brake discs

With the latest generation of the Cayenne crossover introduced in August 2017, Porsche has reinvented the wheel. More precisely, brake discs, calling them Porsche Surface Coated Brakes. They are based on a conventional ventilated cast iron "pancake", but the company claims to be the first in the world to apply a tungsten carbide coating on it. Its thickness is only 0.1 mm, while tungsten carbide is considered one of the hardest materials in the world, and in this indicator it surpasses cast iron several times.

After high-temperature spraying, the mirror coating does not tarnish during operation, rust does not take it, and when working with special pads, such brake discs "get dusty" much less. By the way, to emphasize the cleanliness of these mechanisms, the brake calipers are specially painted in White color... At the same time, "mirror" discs are 30% more tenacious than cast iron, and are three times cheaper than carbon ceramics, to which they are close in terms of thermal stability during aggressive braking. No wonder the new Cayenne Turbo has them in basic equipment, and for other configurations this is an option. And then the only question is how quickly competitors will borrow this technology ...

"Digital" suspension

Adaptive suspensions that adjust to the terrain and are able to change the stiffness of the shock absorbers are still the lot of expensive cars. But the American company Tenneco (Monroe and Rancho shock absorbers are its factories) intends to transfer adjustable shock absorbers to the mainstream A / S segment. For this, the company has developed DRiV (Digital Ride Control Valve) damping technology. The essence of the system is in an inexpensive valve with three channels of different diameters, the fluid flow through which is regulated by digital solenoids.

By closing and opening the channels in different combinations, such a shock absorber has from 8 to 16 "scenarios" of damping. And fast switching between them mimics the operation of more expensive adaptive racks with constantly operating control valves. At the same time, in order to reduce the cost of the design, all the control mechatronics, the control unit and accelerometers are assembled inside the DRiV shock absorber itself. That is, it can be put on almost any car - just connect the power supply. Connection to the CAN-bus of data exchange in modern cars is also provided.
