GAZ-2330 "Tiger"- Russian multipurpose off-road vehicle, armored car, army off-road vehicle. Produced at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant, with engines YaMZ-5347-10 (Russia), Cummins B-205. Some early samples were equipped with GAZ-562 (licensed Steyr), Cummins B-180 and B-215 engines.
History of creation
The direct customer of the multipurpose vehicle was the Bin Jabr Group Ltd (BJG) from the UAE, having allocated 60 million US dollars for the development and manufacture of prototypes. The end customer was King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) of Jordanian King Abdullah II. The main executor and coordinator of the project was the subsidiary company of the Gorky Automobile Plant (OJSC GAZ) CJSC Industrial Computer Technologies (PKT). The first samples of the Tiger HMTV were presented in Abu Dhabi at the IDEX-2001 international arms exhibition.
The customer liked the cars, but as a result, the contract for the supply of the Tiger was never signed, however, in Jordan in Al Dulayl, the joint Arab-Jordanian venture Advanced Industries of Arabia (AIA, 80% of shares in BJG) began in June 2005 the production of identical armored vehicles Nimr in various designs.
So GAZ still had a groundwork - a car developed and ready for mass production. Several cars of the second series were assembled at GAZ - with a different appearance and interior. It was they, called GAZ-233034 "Tiger", that were presented at MIMS-2002.
After at the end of the same year, two prototypes of the car entered the Moscow SOBR for trial operation, the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation became interested in the car and acted as the customer for the Tigers. Serial production of Tiger cars was organized at the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant (AMZ), where it is carried out to this day. Tiger cars are no longer produced at the Gorky Automobile Plant.
Currently, AMZ OJSC (part of the military-industrial company LLC management perimeter) produces the following Tiger car models in series:

Design
The car is designed to transport people and various goods on the road and off-road. It is a frame structure chassis that carries the main part of the units and the body. The body of the car is all-metal single-volume five-door with cargo compartment, is designed to carry four people and up to 1500 kg of cargo (armored three-door single-volume, designed to carry 6-9 people and 1200 kg of cargo - for army and police versions of the car). The cargo compartment is separated from the passenger compartment by a partition and is equipped with seats that can accommodate an additional 2-4 people.
The standard equipment of the car includes: power steering, independent torsion bar suspension of all wheels with hydraulic shock absorbers and stabilizers lateral stability, transfer case with the possibility of blocking the center differential, with self-locking interwheel limited slip differentials, wheel reducers, automatic tire inflation with electronic control, preheater, electric winch.
The GAZ-233001 "Tiger" can additionally be equipped with: air conditioner; audio system; power windows; additional heater; independent heater; Anti-lock braking system.
The center differential lock is activated by a button on the panel, and the lowering row of the transmission is activated by a lever. Interwheel differentials - cam, self-locking. Borrowed from the armored personnel carrier, as well as the wheel suspension itself on twin wishbones... In addition, a centralized wheel inflation system was also taken from the armored personnel carrier.
The body of the armored versions of the "Tiger" is welded from heat-treated armor plates 5 mm thick (7 mm for SPM-2), after which it is tempered to relieve internal stresses. An armored vehicle is 700 kg heavier than a conventional one with a steel body. The armored body turned out to be so strong that it was possible to do without a separate frame as on armored personnel carriers. But for the purpose of unification, the armored body was made removable. So, different bodies can be installed on the same chassis - closed passenger, armored, with a cargo platform. "Tiger" can carry one and a half tons of cargo.

The cost of the civilian "Tiger" will be from 100 to 120 thousand dollars, depending on the modification.

Armored vehicle/ special vehicle(STS) / special police car (SPM). The order for the creation of an armored vehicle was placed by the leadership of the UAE Armed Forces in the late 1990s. The car was developed by a group of GAZ designers under the leadership of A.G. Masyagin using operating experience Hummer SUVs in the UAE army. Developed by experimental car- special vehicle "Tiger" (GAZ-2975). During the design process, the task of unifying the vehicle in terms of nodes with the BTR-80 and the armored vehicle GAZ-39371 "Vodnik" was solved. In 2000, prototypes of cars and documentation were handed over to the customer - Bin Jaber Group (UAE). Using these prototypes, the AR-17 Nimr car was later created in the UAE together with Renault. An example of such an unusual and curious vehicle, originally created for the needs of the military industry, is the GAZ Tiger, developed and constructed by Nizhny Novgorod specialists by order of the Arab corporation “Bin Jabr Group Ltd”.
The reason for this cooperation was the "birth" in 1999 of the Jordanian company "King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau", designed to deal with the development of domestic weapons, which was tasked with creating a multifunctional vehicle with increased cross-country ability... Developments were carried out under the code designation AB17.
The Russian partners were supposed to develop the general style and design of the car and make several variants of demonstration models in various body modifications and prepare them for participation in the specialized exhibition of military equipment IDEX 2001. Then it was planned to conduct joint full-scale tests of cars in the United Arab Emirates, during which they had to overcome the "test" of a three-hundred-kilometer run across a desert area.
At the same time, the list of points of the technical assignment included:
- development of rational and ergonomic design external appearance and internal equipment of the car.

Conqueror of the Arabian Desert
The assignment was accepted for execution and design work was carried out in as soon as possible... At the same time, not only specialists from GAZ OJSC took part in the development, but also employees of the Arzamas Machine-Building Plant and the Sokol Aircraft Building Plant. The trial copy was "born" in 2000, receiving the sonorous and beautiful name GAZ 2975 Tiger.
Its design was based on a spar frame made of a special steel alloy with increased strength characteristics. The car was equipped with a Cummins B-180 turbodiesel power unit, as well as one of the options for a mechanical or automatic box transmissions, including Allison AT-545 and Allison LCT-1000. In addition to them, a transfer case with two stages was installed, which had a differential lock function, which "got" to the Tiger from another model produced by the Gorky Automobile Plant: GAZ-3937 with the name "Vodnik". From there, the power steering system "migrated", as well as two fuel tanks, each with a capacity of 70 liters.
In addition, the GAZ Tiger was equipped with an independent torsion bar suspension, a distinctive feature of which was the presence of energy-intensive shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. This structural element was "borrowed" from the armored personnel carrier BTR-80, as well as the main gears of the axles of the car and interwheel self-locking cam limited slip differentials.
Another feature of the GAZ-2975 is the ability to adjust its ground clearance in the range of one hundred millimeters by moving the torsion bars located inside the frame side members. Besides, ground clearance the car could increase due to the operation of sealed wheel gears installed in its wheels. The package also included a dual-circuit hydraulic braking system with a pneumatic booster.
All samples received various options for the body, which was attached to the frame structure with special bolts on rubber cushions. These included: a five-door modification, welded from armor plates 5 mm thick, as well as two options, based on duralumin sheets. At the same time, the complete set of a three-door modification, "cut" from aluminum (which, by the way, had a folding windshield), included an electric winch, and the five-door version was equipped with a special device - "kengurin".
The finished samples ended up in the capital of the United Arab Emirates in March 2001, where they were airlifted on an Il-76 aircraft. Within the framework of the exhibition experimental model Demonstrated under the name "Tiger 4x4 HMTV" (the abbreviation stands for "highly mobile tactical vehicle).
