Compact cars
Compact cars are still in good demand in Europe, but consumer interest is shifting towards crossovers. And on the basis of the new Polo in 2018, they promise a new subcompact crossover.
Inexpensive crossovers
The T-Roc is based on the MQB platform with units from Polo and Golf. In size, the crossover approached the latter, and in lineup will rise one step below the Tiguan. The range of engines will accommodate gasoline units volume from 1.0 to 1.8 liters with power (105 to 190 hp), as well as a number of diesel engines of 1.6 and 2.0 liters, developing from 115 to 150 horsepower. The serial production of the Volkswagen T-Roc for Europe will start before the end of this year at the plant in Palmela, Portugal. The Germans are in a hurry to enter the market, as competitors are not asleep. Several more models of this segment will be brought to Frankfurt, each of which claims the laurels of the main competitor of the super successful Nissan Juke.
Volkswagen T-Roc
For example, the Seat Arona soplatform crossover, named after the city of the same name in Spain. The 4.14 m long car looks like a new generation Ibiza compact, but has a 400-liter trunk. It will differ from the T-Roc in a more modest range of engines, but the equipment is promised by the Spaniards at the level.
Another promising option is the Kia Stonic crossover, soplatform shown earlier Hyundai kona... The Rio platform model is no longer than 4.2 m and has a boot volume of 360 liters. There are four engines in the range, including three-cylinder turbo engines from 100 to 100. Most likely, the car will be equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with three cylinders with a capacity of 100 horsepower.
Another high-profile premiere can be the new Dacia / Renault Duster, which is being prepared in the strictest confidence. Test prototypes of the second generation machine have repeatedly come across camera lenses, but technical information extremely few. The successor will either get the upgraded platform of the predecessor, or the Nissan CMF-C chassis, which is used on the Renault Kadjar and Nissan Qashqai. Premium crossovers

Sales of the BMW X2 in Europe will begin in 2018, and it will compete with Range rover Evoque, Land Rover discovery Sport and Volvo XC60.
Another strong competitor is the Jaguar E-Pace, which the British presented to the press a little earlier, so everything is known about the car down to the prices. Russian dealers are already taking orders (prices start at 2,455,000 rubles), and the first cars will be delivered to our country in the spring of 2018.
E-Pace shares a platform with Land rover Discovery Sport, four-cylinder 2.0-liter engines are located transversely. The range includes diesel engines with a capacity of 150, 180 and 240 hp, gasoline engines with a return of 248 and 300 horsepower. Crossovers with initial engines are equipped with an all-wheel drive transmission Standard Driveline with an electronically controlled interaxle clutch, and the top version - Active Driveline system with two controlled clutch packs on the rear axle. SUVs
A real commotion in a larger segment can make a new one Mercedes-Benz G-Class... Instead of finally sending the Gelendvagen to rest, the Germans from year to year brought it to new legislative ones, but this time it seems that it is really new car... According to preliminary information, the car is being built on a new platform, thanks to which the SUV will lose 400 kg of weight. The angular style will remain absolutely recognizable, but the aerodynamics will be significantly improved.
At the first stage, the range of engines will include gasoline units with a capacity of up to 360 hp. and several diesels up to a V6 engine with a return of 313 horsepower. Later there will be an upgraded 4.0-liter gas engine V8 Biturbo, the power of which will range from 470 to 600 horsepower. Of course, the AMG version should also be expected, but not earlier than 2018.
Mercedes-Benz G-Class
Long awaited Volkswagen Touareg the new generation will be built on the MLB Evo platform, like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga. The car will become larger and will lose about 200 kg due to light alloy materials. And he will be the bearer of the new design idea shown on the T-Prime GTE concept. The Touareg will be offered in five- and seven-seat versions, as well as in a version with four separate seats. The engine range will range from a 2.0-liter TSI to V6 and V8 engines, plus a hybrid version.
BMW is also preparing a new flagship SUV, and we are talking about a completely new car with the X7 index. More precisely, the X7 Concept, which runs on fuel cells. The Bavarians have been experimenting with hydrogen cars for a long time, and for the X7 they have prepared a unit with a capacity of 245 horsepower. At the same time, the power reserve at one filling with hydrogen reaches 500 kilometers.
Most likely, the matter will be limited to experiment, and the future X7 will receive traditional units. Debut serial version will take place next year. The car is being built on the older CLAR platform, so the engines, up to the flagship V12, will be located longitudinally, and all-wheel drive will appear.
Middle class sedans
If you exclude premium brands from the model, the segment is dying, and Europeans are not interested. Earlier, the Peugeot brand announced a new generation of the 508 sedan, but the brand will not be in Frankfurt at all. The only novelty at a stretch can be called a relatively fast Opel insignia GSi. The modification was equipped with a two-liter four-cylinder turbo engine developing 260 hp. and 400 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission with the ability to change gears using paddle shifters.
The Opel Insignia GSi passes the Nürburgring “Northern loop” faster than the previous Insignia OPC, which was equipped with a 325-horsepower V6 2.8 engine. With a new chassis and compact engine, the Insignia GSi is 160 kg lighter.
