If you are learning the basics of driving at a driving school, you can be sure that this exercise will be included in the program somewhere at the very end, when you already have tolerable driving skills. But do not expect that in one, maximum two times you will be able to master this technique properly. So it makes sense to practice this yourself.

Here is a step-by-step instruction for parallel parking, as it is taught at the circuit (it is assumed that there is both a front and rear car, and enough space between them):

turn on the alarm before starting the maneuver;
then try to drive up to the front car at a distance of about 50 centimeters so that your front right wheel is located near the left rear corner of the car;
engage in neutral gear, regardless of the type of transmission - this is a mandatory requirement;
carefully observing what is happening behind, turning your head, turn on the reverse gear and slowly start moving;
quickly turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops so that your car follows the steepest possible trajectory towards the right rear corner of the parking area;
as soon as you see in the left mirror the right headlight of the car standing behind (your seat will be level with the bumper of the front car), align the steering wheel to a straight position and continue slowly backing up;
when your front bumper is aligned with the bumper of the car in front, turn the steering wheel to the left and move until the car is parallel to the sidewalk;
if your car has become a little crooked, or closer to one of the neighbors, correct it;
after completing the maneuver, put the steering wheel straight; if you have an automatic transmission, turn on the parking mode and do not forget to put the car on the parking brake;
after getting out of the car, make sure that everything is done correctly, and you will not inconvenience your neighbors in the parking pocket.

As you can see, the technique of parallel parking in reverse is not difficult, but to master it, you need three components:

first study the algorithm in theory and remember its degree of automatism;
practice the technique at the circuit;
memorize how the car behaves when reversing and simultaneously actively turning the steering wheel.

When performing a maneuver in a driving school, marking equipment will be installed, which cannot be knocked down when passing the exam, therefore it is so important to master the skills of driving on the rear-view mirrors when parallel parking in reverse.

Common mistakes

You can rest assured that you will make a lot of mistakes before learning how to park perfectly. This is quite natural, even eminent racers did not immediately master the basics of driving skills.

Here are the most common mistakes when performing the PP in reverse:

too close distance after completing the maneuver to the left edge road markings... This is done in order to try to position the car correctly after the first twisting. But in doing so, you risk knocking off the flag (or, equivalently, crossing the line). On exams, when performing parallel parking on the site, such an error is penalized;
many novice drivers simply do not have time to complete a full turn of the steering wheel, and without this, one cannot count on successful parking. The fact is that having a larger steering column range will make the alignment process easier for yourself. It is not difficult to make sure of this - it is enough to do everything correctly at least once. Such a mistake in the exams is not punished, but such a practice is fraught with an increase in the time to complete the maneuver, which is limited when passing the exam;
sideways driving over the lane markings is a very serious violation as it will create problems for the main flow of vehicles.

Passing an exam at a driving school involves gaining a certain number of points. This means that if you make a small number of blots, you still have a chance to pass the test.
