In January 2016, the American Manfred Fitzgerald, the former director of design and development of the Lamborghini brand, became the head of the Genesis brand. What is known about the G80 sedan?

The new business sedan is the fruit of a thorough reworking of the second generation Hyundai Genesis, which received a more aggressive design and a retuned suspension. The sedan is powered by a 3.8-liter V6 petrol engine. Engine power is 315 horsepower. In addition, the novelty will be offered in a "charged" Sport modification. This version was equipped with a 3.3-liter biturbo engine. Engine power is 370 hp. and 510 Nm of torque. Drive - rear or full, transmission - eight-speed "automatic". Finally, customers will be offered an adaptive suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Genesis Motors is the luxury transportation arm of the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai Motor Group. Initially proposed along with a new plan luxury sedan Hyundai Hyundai Genesis in 2004, the Genesis brand was officially declared a standalone brand on November 4, 2015.

Genesis car: plans for the future

By 2020, it is expected that the brand will have sports coupe and two SUVs. This will bring the number of Genesis models to six. Having spun off the premium brand Genesis from Hyundai's parent brand, the Koreans have never hidden their strategy of expanding into global markets. Back in the days of the Moscow Motor Show, I managed to shoot in the parking lot of the Crocus Expo exhibition center flagship sedan Genesis G90 with Russian numbers, in which the company's management arrived at the premiere of Crete. And now the official presentation of the Genesis brand in Russia has taken place.

With machines new brand Autoreview readers, so now the strategy of their promotion in Russia is the most interesting. Cars for our market will be assembled from SKDs at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant. The first to come out executive sedan Genesis G90, which replaced the well-known in our country hyundai model Equus. The Elite trim adds adaptive LED headlights, surround-view cameras, head-up display and second-row entertainment. Moreover, such a car can be bought both with the aforementioned aspirated 3.8, and with the newest V6 3.3 T-GDI biturbo engine with a capacity of 370 hp. The same engine, along with the flagship "eight" 5.0 (413 hp), will be available in the richest Royal configuration with separate second-row seats, automatic braking and lane control systems.

Electronic assistants can also be installed on the first two versions for a fee. And at the top of the range is a modification extended by 290 mm, which the Koreans call a "limousine". But, strictly speaking, a car without a partition between the rows is just an elongated sedan. However, this is unlikely to stop buyers: the long-wheelbase version of the Ekus in previous years accounted for up to 10% of sales, although in 2015 there were only six buyers.

Pricing for the G90 will be announced at the same time as sales begin. Don't expect cheap premium sedans, however. Most likely, compared to the Hyundai Equus model (from 3.4 million rubles), prices will rise by about a third. This means that you need to navigate around 4.5 million! Although it is still cheaper than the Mercedes S-class, which now costs from 5.9 million rubles.

What's next? A business sedan, that is, a restyled Hyundai Genesis with an expanded set of equipment, will appear with us in early 2017. A year later, the Genesis G70 sedan the size of a BMW three-ruble note will arrive in Russia - it was shown at the last auto show in New York. And then, in full accordance with the global, a large and compact crossovers plus a two-door that replaces the discontinued Hyundai Genesis Coupe. But these models do not even have names yet, and their market launch is scheduled for the end of the decade.

The International North American Auto Show, held in January 2016, became the site of the world debut of the "firstborn" in lineup Genesis - Hyundai's premium sub-brand - in the face of the full-size sedan G90, which was first presented back in December 2015 in Seoul under the South Korean name "EQ900".

The interior of the Genesis G90 is built in perfect harmony with appearance - inside the car, weighted and solid style is combined with natural materials and the highest level of workmanship. An exemplary and informative instrument cluster accommodates arrow indicators and a color screen of the on-board computer, and the steering wheel, in addition to the status view, carries a high functional load.
The respectable center console is crowned with a multimedia center display (diagonal from 8 to 12.3 inches) and a stylish climate control panel, and an analog clock adds nobility to it.

Genesis G90 front seats are focused on comfort - they are equipped with a good profile, heating, ventilation and electrically driven numerous adjustments. In the rear of the cabin, the full-size sedan has luxury apartments with a well-thought-out sofa and plenty of space, and in the "top" versions - with separate seats, individual "climate" and optional multimedia system tablets.

  • Under the hood of the "top" version is "hidden" an atmospheric V8 GDI unit with a volume of 5.0 liters (5038 cubic centimeters) with direct injection fuel, producing 425 "heads" of 6000 rpm and 520 Nm of possible thrust at 5000 rpm and accompanied only by an all-wheel drive transmission. Such a sedan "shoots" from zero to "hundreds" in 5.7 seconds, its capabilities do not exceed 240 km / h, and fuel consumption is within 7.2-7.3 liters in combined conditions.

The Genesis G90's all-wheel drive solutions feature the HTRAC transmission, developed in conjunction with Magna Powertrain, with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch in the front axle drive. During normal travel, the torque goes mainly to the rear wheels, but if necessary, 30 to 40% of the thrust is automatically transferred to the front, depending on the situation.

The analog clock is placed in order from bottom to top, and then the monitor, climate control and multimedia system. Everything looks very laconic, harmonious and stylish. As an option, by the way, it is offered with a hatch. This is a peculiar highlight of the Genesis model.

The car, the photo of which is provided above, is good in all respects. Its interior is magnificent, because only high-quality expensive materials were used in the finishing process. By the way, the chairs are offered in several versions (you can choose the skin of the color you like more). Even in the salon, natural wood and aluminum trim parts were used. Everything in the interior of this car is thought out - even the (front) PSV Genesis looks very stylish and modern.
