The top 3 most economical cars are opened by another representative of the Opel auto concern, a sedan called Astra. True, the cost of the sedan is sufficient, high, to consider this car budgetary - 1,320,000 rubles. But if the car is equipped with a 1-liter engine, the car owner will be able to significantly save on fuel, since gasoline consumption is only 4.2 liters.

  • 1,0 MT 5-speed Manual transmission / 80hp fuel consumption 4.2l / 100km

  • 1.6 MT 6 Speed Manual transmission or AT 6-speed Automatic transmission / 115-180hp fuel consumption 5.9-7.1l / 100km

We are good at calculating how much we saved on buying a car, how much on servicing a garage master instead of a normal service station, how much on cheap Chinese spare parts. But how much one could save on fuel is not accepted in our country, and in general there is no such tradition - to choose a car based on its consumption. Of course, everyone knows that 3-liter BMWs from the 90s cannot be economical, but Belarusians are also in no hurry to change to small cars with 0.9-1.2 liter engines. But this will save a very decent amount!

We count together. How many kilometers do you drive in a year? In Europe, the normal average annual mileage is 30-35 thousand kilometers. We have, say, less - 20-25 thousand, but for example we will take 20 thousand and the average consumption, say, 8 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Based on this, we find that we need 1600 liters of fuel per year, and if you drive the same 30 thousand kilometers, then all 2400. Multiply by the cost of 92 gasoline - and we get 17,760,000 and 26,640,000 Belarusian rubles, respectively ...

Now imagine that your car consumes not 8, but, say, 5 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Under the same conditions, you spend much less during the year, because now you will need 1000 or 1500 liters for the above runs - this is 11,100,000 and 16,650,000 Belarusian rubles.

But not everything is so simple: not every car with a small engine is really very economical, many small cars with an engine of 1.2-1.4 liters can consume fuel no less than golf-class sedans with an engine of 1.6 or more ...

Therefore, we bring to your attention an overview of cars that can consume no more than 5 liters of fuel.

The most famous fuel-efficient car of the late 90s is VW Lupo and its twin Seat Arosa. In the 3L version, this three-door hatchback was equipped with a three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbodiesel, and to reduce weight had aluminum body panels - hood, fenders, side doors, etc. Of course, for a small car, such technologies were expensive, but instead VW enjoyed a very long time the title of the manufacturer of an ultra-efficient car - in the 3L highway mode it consumed only 2.7 liters of diesel fuel per 100 kilometers. And in the urban cycle, according to the manufacturer, this small car needed no more than 3.6 liters. Can you imagine how much the owner of such a Lupo or Arosa saves on fuel?

But there are practically no such, in the 3L version, in our market, and all the other Lupo and Arosa already have a higher consumption. Especially petrol modifications. Only cars with a 1.4-liter turbodiesel, which in the extra-urban cycle consumes 3.5 liters, and on average 4.4 liters, can come close to record indicators.

The same 1.4-liter turbodiesel can be found under the hood of another Volkswagen model, the Polo. And here he also demonstrates the wonders of economy - 3.9 liters in suburban mode. But in our market, Polo with a 1.9 liter diesel engine is more common, which was installed on almost everything volkswagen models, and this is also a very economical engine - on the Polo, depending on the modification and power, it requires from 3.9 to 4.1 liters on the highway. By the way, the atmospheric version of SDI will be the most economical in the track mode. Petrol Polos cannot boast of such efficiency, even in the smallest versions.

By the way, did you notice that almost the entire review was occupied by small cars? But these cars are not suitable for everyone's lifestyle: family, children, business - what if you need a bigger car, but just as economical? This is Skoda Octavia. A roomy hatchback or station wagon was equipped with the same 1.9-liter diesel engine (or turbodiesel), which we have already talked about with the example of VW models. And under the hood of the Octavia, this engine also demonstrates miracles of economy - it only needs 4 liters of diesel fuel on the highway. This applies to both generations of the model: despite the fact that it appeared in 2004 Octavia second generation has become larger and heavier, its 1.9-liter 105-horsepower turbodiesel on the highway consumes about the same - 4.1 liters.

The French 1.5-liter turbodiesel developed by by Renault... Installed in 2001 under the hood of the second generation Clio, in the 65-horsepower version it consumed 3.7 liters on the highway, and even less in the turbocharged version - 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers. Subsequently, this engine was installed on almost all Renault passenger cars, as well as some nissan models and etc.

Diesel, diesel ... But what about gasoline engines? Are there really no ones among them that are so economical as to easily fit into the same parameters as the diesel engine indicated in this review? The answer is no. More precisely, it was not. Until the end of the 2000s, gasoline engines could not compete with diesel engines in terms of efficiency, and only the appearance of a new generation of engines made it possible to reduce consumption to less than 5 liters. Moreover, if some were able to achieve this only through the use of turbocharging, how volkswagen with their TSI engines, other manufacturers, such as Toyota, were able to reduce consumption even without supercharging, and today liter and 1.3-liter Toyota engines used on the iQ, Aygo, Yaris models have fuel consumption in highway mode from 4 liters and higher. There are also hybrid cars that, thanks to the help of an electric motor, can be very economical in the city, but we will talk about them in a separate review.

Despite the fall in oil prices, the cost of gasoline at gas stations in Russia has not changed much. Car owners have to pay the same 40 rubles for a quality 98. It is not surprising that sooner or later every motorist starts thinking about buying a more economical car.

To choose the most economical car, special attention should be paid to the type of fuel. Diesel, for example, offers significantly greater savings than gasoline. Nevertheless, the cost of maintaining such machines is 20-30 percent more expensive. Therefore, when choosing the most economical car, there are many factors to consider.

Ratings of economy cars of different classes and types

Of course, if you are looking for an inexpensive, economical car, then a mini car is your choice. The low price and modest fuel consumption will allow you to save hundreds of thousands of rubles per year. Moreover, the compact size makes it possible to park anywhere. In addition, these nimble fireballs are easy to drive.

The last place is taken by Daihatsu Cuore. It is a one-liter hatchback with an average gas mileage of 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers. When driving around the city, this figure rises to 5.5 liters.

The advantages of Daihatsu Cuore can be counted very spacious salon and good dynamics. Like all Japanese, the electronic filling of the mini-car is beyond praise. The only drawback is the high cost of parts.

Fourth place - Smart Fortwo. The machine is equipped with a one liter engine, the average consumption is 4.4 liters. Of course, this is not the most economical car, but many motorists around the world have liked it for its unusual design and surprisingly compact dimensions.

The dimensions of the Smart Fortwo allow it to squeeze between four-wheeled vehicles, even in the most saturated traffic. It is also worth noting the relatively low operating cost. On a full tank, the car can travel 500 km.

The third place in the ranking of the most economical cars in terms of fuel consumption among mini-cars is taken by the Suzuki Alto. Almost all parameters are identical to the previous applicant. Only by the amount of fuel consumed within the city, this car takes precedence over its rival

This is a budget car with no frills. The modest design and interior do not give room for imagination. In addition, the Suzuki Alto received only three stars in the Euro NCAP rating.

Second place - Nissan Pixo. The car has a one-liter engine completely identical to the Suzuki Alto and an average consumption of 4.4 liters. Nevertheless, in terms of price / quality ratio, it certainly leads.

The first place is occupied by Toyota IQ - it is the most economical car for the city. Its engine has a volume of one liter. Average fuel consumption 4.3 liters, minimum 3.9. Nice design and compact size create a complete concept that looks extremely appropriate in the conditions of modern metropolitan areas. In addition, this vehicle emits the least amount of CO2 into the atmosphere.

Despite the external diminutiveness, this is a real four-seater sedan with a manual transmission. Up to a hundred kilometers Toyota IQ accelerates in 14.7 seconds. A car can travel 740 kilometers on one tank! Unsurprisingly, this model tops the Top 5 most fuel efficient mini cars.

The most economical car with high ground clearance

For a long time, Toyota Urban Cruiser has been considered the most economical SUV in terms of fuel consumption. The model was released back in 2009 and at that time showed simply amazing results.

The car was equipped with engines of 1.5 and 1.8 liters. But for Europe, a special model with a volume of 1.4 liters was released! At the same time, the power of the car was 90 horsepower. It was this option that became the most economical gasoline SUV. For every hundred kilometers, only 5.3 liters are spent, outside the city - 4. For such a large car, these are more than modest figures.

The most economical diesel SUV vehicle is the Ford Escape Hybrid. The engine displacement is 2.3 liters. Power reaches 133 horsepower. The car is equipped with a three-phase synchronous electric motor, which provides increased efficiency both when driving around the city and outside it. By the way, this is another 94 liters. from. additionally.

In fact, the Ford Escape Hybrid has two motors. They can work in turns or in tandem. If the car moves at a speed of up to 40 km / h, only the electric motor works, but as soon as the driver crosses this line, a gasoline device is connected, providing a real explosion of power. The fuel consumption of this monster is from 7 to 7.8 liters per hundred kilometers.

  1. Citroen C1;
  2. Toyota Prius;
  3. Seat Ibiza.

Only gasoline cars or hybrids.

The most economical in the world

Outcome

Modern market trends dictate their own rules to car owners. In 2015, having the most economical car is not only financially profitable, but also fashionable. The trend dedicated to environmental protection is gaining more and more popularity every year. And fuel efficient vehicles have a minimal impact on the environment.

High fuel prices have led drivers to increasingly pay attention to the moment of combustion and to value vehicles that provide the lowest level of liquid gold consumption. Car manufacturers began to tempt drivers with brochures by offering fuel-efficient models. These results were most likely obtained in laboratories and cannot be replicated in reality. Therefore, partly the most economical car depends on the type of engine and class.

Fuel economy is a hot topic, and car firms respond by making their transport more efficient all the time. Nowadays, you can see more often new cars that drive 35 km on just one liter of fuel, even family cars regularly drive an average of 27 km / liter.

Fuel type and its effect on economy

Vehicle fuel efficiency depends on a number of factors. Diesel fuel is more economical than gasoline due to its slow burning rates, but the cost per liter of diesel can be higher than for gasoline. However, their costs are, on average, 20–30% higher than those of cars with a gasoline engine. Oils and spare parts are more expensive. It is worth remembering that the particle filter is mounted in exhaust systems diesel engines and is only cleaned on long journeys.

It is a common misconception that a higher octane number fuel provides increased power and best mileage... Octane only affects engine drag and does not improve fuel economy or horsepower. Today they are used completely different types fuels that have a significant impact on fuel efficiency.

German engineers from ADAC Automobile Club presented new rating, in which cars are divided into classes in terms of fuel consumption. They are practically all cars sold by European dealers.

Fuel economy is the main selection criterion for new car buyers. However, the figures given by the manufacturers are obtained by laboratory methods and they very often differ from the real ones. And the economy of a car depends not only on fuel consumption. Fuel savings are affected by the overall technical condition car, correct, load, weather conditions, availability additional functions (air conditioner) and more. Therefore, the rating is not everything. If you have any comments, you can leave them below.

There is no driver who does not monitor the fuel consumption of his car. At least just to get to the gas station on time. At the same time, fuel-efficient cars have always been of considerable interest to most drivers. The rating of such cars, compiled by the various media themselves, is usually studied rather carefully and scrupulously.

Low Fuel Consumption Cars - Economical or Not?

In fact, this is a provocative question. The expected answer is yes, it will not always be correct. Thus, cars with diesel engines are rated as more economical than gasoline ones, but it would be wrong to judge this by fuel consumption alone. In addition, in our conditions, sometimes diesel fuel at a price more expensive than gasoline, and this alone will be an additional expense for the maintenance of diesel cars, it is worth considering that they need more frequent maintenance.

More frequently performed oil and filter changes, and consumables sometimes have a higher cost than required for gasoline engine, and the TO itself will eat up all the imaginary savings from the use of diesel fuel. Besides, don't forget about its quality. I must admit that the fuel at our gas stations often does not meet any requirements and when using it, you may well have to spend a lot on repairing your car's engine.

Therefore, trying to determine which car is more economical, it is worth considering not only the data on fuel consumption, but also the cost of maintenance, as well as the cost of possible repairs due to the use of cheap and low-quality fuel.

Low Fuel Consumption Cars - What Are They?

However, all of the above does not mean that car manufacturers are not engaged in reducing fuel consumption. Cars with low fuel consumption have always opened the rating about fuel-efficient cars, the authors of which are numerous organizations, from reputable to little-known. If you look closely at any rating, you will notice some rather curious facts.

  1. Hybrid vehicles tend to lead the ranking of low fuel consumption vehicles. There is nothing surprising in this, they were conceived as vehicles with low fuel consumption. But the number of such cars is significantly inferior to the number of cars with conventional internal combustion engines, and they are not very popular, especially in our country;
  2. In cases where a non-hybrid vehicle is included in the rating, its characteristic features will be the relatively low power and volume of the internal combustion engine. The consequence of this is the small size that cars of this type have. So, when paying attention to economical cars, be prepared for the fact that they are far from cars. executive class... Large, heavy, powerful and dynamic machines are not characterized by low consumption and economy;
  3. To keep fuel consumption low, manufacturers often use a variety of additional systems, the consequence of which is increased efficiency. An example of such a technical solution is the start-stop system used on many vehicles. Its essence lies in the fact that in the absence of movement (when stopping at a traffic light or in a traffic jam), the engine is switched off electronically and switched on by it when the position of the pedals (clutch and gas) changes.

This approach can reduce fuel consumption by up to ten percent from usual, but the flip side of this will be an increase in the price of the vehicle, and cars, the rating of which will be at the bottom of the list, will be cheaper.

Economical cars in terms of fuel consumption

When thinking about buying a car with low fuel consumption, in addition to data on the consumption of gasoline of a new car, it is worth thinking about its operation. If your car consumes more fuel than it should be according to its technical characteristics, then it is possible that it is not only the value of the gas mileage. Economical fuel consumption in many cases is associated not only directly with the machine, but also with how it is used.

The simplest example - a green traffic light comes on, cars, accelerating sharply, rush along the avenue in order to stand again in front of the prohibitory signal after two hundred meters. With this driving style low consumption gasoline will never be. At the moment of acceleration, the engine consumes more fuel than is necessary during quiet driving, and in addition, it does not completely burn out. In addition, the entire expense was wasted. I had to stand at the traffic light again.
The movement should be fast, but smooth, with the transition to higher gears in a minimum time, on them the gasoline consumption figures will be lower, and the economy will increase.

Another factor, despite its insignificance, providing fuel economy, will be aerodynamic drag movement and use additional devices... The most common glasses, lowered while driving, increase the aerodynamic resistance of the car, which will result in additional gas mileage. Turning on the air conditioner leads to an increase in electricity consumption on board, additional load on the generator and increased fuel consumption.

Don't think that everyone should ride with closed windows and sweat in the heat. You just need to be aware that if you turn on the air conditioner, loud music or open windows, this will lead to more significant gas mileage.

There are many other ways and techniques to ensure the economical operation of your car. There are enough of them so that your steel horse does not become too burdensome for you.

The question of which cars are economical and which are not is difficult enough for a definite answer. And the first lines in world rankings cannot sometimes serve as an unambiguous criterion for such an assessment. Correct operation even an ordinary, albeit old, car can be much more profitable than inept use of the most "hit" car.
