Kia Soul - crossover in sunglasses. Kia Soul of the second generation - the soulful car has become larger Exterior and interior

New York, the most iconic image of the American metropolis. This is the location chosen by the Korean automaker Kia Motors as the site for the announcement of the new urban SUV Kia Soul at the New York International Auto Show. The Soul's design is still guessed, although a lot has been borrowed from the Track’ster concept unveiled in 2012.

The wheelbase has become wider and longer, at the same time increasing the size of the vehicle and the space available for passengers or luggage. Torque has increased markedly, and with improved suspension, the new 2014 Kia Soul will be your companion, the flesh of the city for which it was designed - just as agile and agile.

The first Soul was released in 2009, but although the model was initially positioned as a hit, Kia had no idea how successful it would become. The new generation is called upon to expand this success, while retaining all that for which the very first Soul was loved.

However, this was not the easiest task. While a design bureau in Kia California was just sharpening pencils before sketching sketches, designers in the United States and South Korea focused on making the new Soul a pleasure to drive.

The key factor was to find a fulcrum from which the design and further development of the SUV would be based. She became an increase in torsional stiffness by 28.7%. It was this feature that allowed the addition of new functions and improved dynamic characteristics, while maintaining the iconic design.

The fact that we have a new Soul in front of us can be guessed at first glance. The same square profile and distinctive wheel arches are combined with a new wheelbase that is longer and wider than its predecessor, giving the new Soul a more aggressive and dynamic look. Together with the Soul's familiar ground clearance and high-positioned taillights, this creates an updated look for the classic Kia Soul, and the use and shape of the LED lights makes the novelty similar to other Kia flagships of the new model year - the 2014 Sorento CUV and the Forte Sedan 2014.

Overall, the design team has gone to great lengths to give the city SUV more comfort and premium touches. The information panel and center console are made of soft-touch plastic. Leather is optionally available as the material for the seat upholstery, and the use of high-gloss black inserts on dashboard and the center console.

Particular attention has also been paid to improving the steering by re-adjusting the front and rear suspension and changing their balance.

Under the hood of the new Soul is a 130-horsepower 1.6-liter four-cylinder GDI petrol engine made entirely of aluminum. The Plus and Exclaim models have a more powerful 2-liter unit. The first will receive a 6-speed manual transmission with the option of installing a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Plus model will offer a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, while the Exclaim will come with an automatic transmission pre-installed.

KIA Soul- a unique car that, due to its structural and dimensional features, does not have a clear classification.

For example, in Russia, part automotive experts classifies "Soul" as a hatchback, others consider it a compact B-class SUV, and some even see it as a minivan.

Overseas, it is customary to classify the KIA Soul as a mini-SUV cohort or call it a compact station wagon.

The KIA Soul is an exclusively front-wheel drive vehicle. But it can boast of a roomy (for its size) five-seater saloon and an interesting design (on which the German specialist Peter Schreier worked, who at one time drew the Audi TT and VW Golf IV generation).

Debut, recognition, awards

Soul was first shown to the public in the fall of 2008 during Paris Motor Show, where the cute novelty immediately attracted increased attention.

Already in November of the same year, sales of "Soul" started in South Korea, then (in February 2009) it was Europe's turn, but the Korean got to the North American market, where the Soul "shot" especially successfully, only in April 2009.

The beginning of work on the Soul became known in 2005 - when designer Mike Torpey, who had recently joined the California design department of the Korean auto giant, went on a business trip to Seoul to brainstorm ideas for a new car. It was he who suggested drawing inspiration from wild boars, which are of great cultural importance for Korea, and drew the first caricature sketch, which formed the basis for the future design of Soul, which was later brought to marketable appearance by Peter Schreier, who came to the company.

At the same time, the developers did not limit themselves to one concept:

  • 2006 KIA Soul Concept was presented in Detroit (partly inspired by another concept car - KIA Mesa)
  • in the spring of 2008 in Geneva, three versions were shown to the public at once: Soul Burner, Soul Diva and Soul Searcher.

The millionth KIA Soul was sold in 2015, while the main sales market for Soul is the United States, where more than 100,000 cars of this model have been sold annually since 2011.

The name Soul in direct translation means "soul", but you can also hear a modified pronunciation of the name of the capital South Korea- Seoul.

And yet, the basis, most likely, was the first version of the origin of the name, since it most of all correlates with Schreier's desire to bring in new KIA cars more emotionality, soulfulness and national features of Korean culture.

1st generation (2009-2013)

The first generation of Soul is built on the Hyundai-Kia PB platform (which is also used on Hyundai vehicles i20, Hyundai ix20, KIA Venga, KIA Rio III generation).

In Russia, sales of the KIA Soul started in March 2009 and the Korean novelty had to compete with a fairly large list of cars: Suzuki SX4, Nissan Note, Fiat Sedici and even Citroen C3 Picasso. At the same time, Soul had a very important advantage over all key rivals - excellent geometric cross-country ability (due to short front and rear overhangs).

Exterior

KIA Soul of the first generation received a recognizable appearance with large head optics, sharply "chopped off" stern and glass narrowed to the rear.

The car was positioned, first of all, as a youth - therefore, its design was originally laid down huge opportunities for individualization:

  • 11 color options,
  • optional chrome trims for body elements,
  • a wide selection of factory design stickers and drawings for airbrushing,
  • a fairly large list of stamped and light-alloy wheels in dimensions of 15, 16 and 18 inches.

Overall dimensions KIA dimensions Soul I are quite compact:

  • Length - 4106 mm
  • Width - 1786 mm
  • Height - 1610 mm (1660 mm including roof rails)
  • Wheelbase - 2550 mm
  • Wheel track - 1570 mm front and 1575 mm rear
  • Loading height - 780 mm

Curb vehicle weight ≈1240 kg (± 50 kg, depending on version and equipment). The permissible total weight is ≈1700 kg.

In April 2011, the KIA Soul underwent a restyling, within the framework of which it received updated bumpers, a trimmed radiator grille, redrawn optics, LED DRLs and new taillights.

As a result of these new additions, the overall length of the Soul has grown to 4120 mm (+15 mm), and the minimum curb weight of the version for the Russian market has increased from 1170 kg to 1245 kg.

Interior

Initially, the first generation KIA Soul had three basic interior trim options, which could be supplemented with many small gadgets to customize the individual appearance, including various options for decorative lighting.

And after the 2011 restyling, the list of color schemes for interior elements has significantly expanded, it became possible to order upholstery made of dirt-repellent Clean Touch fabric, new equipment options were added to improve the comfort and safety of the interior.

The rear axle of the KIA Soul displaced back allowed the developers to increase the free legroom of passengers in the second row of seats, but this, on the one hand, simultaneously turned into a minus: the useful volume of the trunk, which is only 222 liters, excluding the spare wheel niche, was significantly reduced. With the rear bench folded down, the luggage capacity increases to 700 liters.

Specifications

In Russia, the first generation KIA Soul was sold with two powerplant options:

During the restyling, both engines were slightly modernized, in particular by changing the fuel supply system, and supplemented with new gearboxes, as a result of which some performance characteristics changed:

It should be added that in other markets, other engines were used under the hood of the KIA Soul. In particular - gasoline units Gamma i4 (1.6 liters / 122 hp) and Beta II i4 (2.0 liters / 142 hp), later replaced by more economical Gamma motors GDI (138 hp) and Nu i4 (164 hp).

Speed and dynamics

Depending on the engine, the first generation KIA Soul showed different speed capabilities:

Design features

The first generation KIA Soul is equipped with a front independent suspension based on MacPherson struts and a rear semi-independent suspension with a torsion bar.

At the base, the front axle wheels have ventilated disc brakes, and the rear wheels are equipped with drum brakes (which could optionally be replaced with disc brakes).

The KIA Soul rack and pinion steering is complemented by an electric booster.

Safety

The first generation of KIA Soul, at one time, was recognized as one of the most safe cars compact class.

  • In Euro NCAP crash tests in 2009, the "First Soul" received the highest rating of five stars.
  • This car also earned high marks in the Australian ANCAP crash tests.
  • Also according to the American Institute road safety(IIHS) was highly rated - "Top Safety Pick".

Flaws

On the Russian versions of the first generation KIA Soul, experts and owners called the key shortcomings:

  • low quality paintwork body panels,
  • very poor level of interior sound insulation,
  • poor basic equipment (in comparison with closest competitors),
  • very tight suspension settings.

Special versions

The first generation of "Soul", in addition to serial versions, was also produced in several versions with limited production volumes. All of them were sold in 2009 - 2010 mainly in the USA.

The modification received thematic airbrushing all over the body, 18-inch wheels of a special design and others minor improvements exterior.

Interesting fact: In the wake of general interest in the first generation KIA Soul, various third-party proposals for the further development of the Soul family periodically appeared. One of the most popular options was the KIA Soul Drop Top Convertible version that hit the Internet in 2012.

Despite the rather nice appearance and attractive idea, KIA did not hear the supplications of Soul fans and did not release the convertible.

Equipment in Russia

Initially basic complete set KIA Soul in Russia had a version of "Comfort", which included:

  • 16-inch alloy wheels with tires 205/55 R16
  • Fog lights
  • Electric drive and heated front mirrors
  • Adjustable steering column
  • Cloth salon
  • Height-adjustable driver's seat

  • Heated front seats
  • Front airbags
  • ABS + EBD systems
  • Air conditioner
  • Multimedia with CD-player and 6 speakers
  • On-board computer
  • Immobilizer
  • Spare wheel on stamped steel disc

After restyling, a less equipped version of the "Classic" appeared, which took the place of the initial one. In it, the Koreans replaced the alloy wheels with stamped ones with a dimension of 15 inches, and also removed the front foglights and the driver's seat height adjustment.

In the top version "Luxe", the first generation KIA Soul was additionally equipped with:

  • Central lock
  • Side airbags and curtain airbags
  • Active headrest
  • Parktronic
  • ESP and HAC systems
  • Automatic door lock when driving
  • Climate control
  • Anti-dazzle mirror

2nd generation (2014-2019)

The second generation of the KIA Soul was completely declassified in September 2013 (as part of the Frankfurt Motor Show), while the first piece of information about the European version of the car appeared on the network in the 20th of August.

KIA Soul II in the "North American" version is slightly different from the "European": redesigned optics, minor changes in the design of the bumpers and the level of equipment trim levels.

Sales in Europe started in early 2014. The production of the “second Soul” for the Russian market was organized at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant.

At the heart of the second generation KIA Soul is a trolley from the KIA Cee’d hatchback, which made it possible to increase both external dimensions car, and increase the amount of free space inside the cabin.

At the same time, Soul retained the key advantage of its predecessor over numerous competitors - excellent geometric cross-country ability.

Exterior

The appearance of the 2nd generation KIA Soul was refined based on the KIA Track’ster concept car shown in February 2012. From the show car of the 2nd generation "Soul" got the contours of the bumpers, the location of the foglights and air intakes. In general, the design (on which Peter Schreier also worked) has evolved, retaining the recognizable features of its predecessor, but at the same time becoming even more youthful and stylish.

  • 2013-2016

  • 2013-2016

  • 2013-2016

  • 2013-2016

There are also ample opportunities for individualization. At the start of sales, the second Soul received four wheel designs and a multitude of body colors, including particularly attractive two-tone variants.

Like its predecessor, the 2nd generation KIA Soul won the prestigious Red Dot Design Award in 2014 and the iF Product Design Award in 2014 and 2016.

The transition to a new generation is reflected in the dimensions of the Soul, which, albeit a little, have grown:

  • Length - 4141 mm (+35 mm)
  • Width - 1800 mm (+14 mm)
  • Height - 1615 mm (+5 mm)
  • Wheelbase - 2570 mm (+20 mm)
  • Wheel track - 1570 mm at the front (+4 mm) and 1588 mm at the rear (+13 mm)
  • Ground clearance (clearance) - 164 mm
  • Loading height - 780 mm
  • Legroom, 1/2 row mm - 1040/994
  • Headroom to seat, 1/2 row mm - 1006/1003
  • Width at shoulder level, 1/2 row mm - 1410/1390

The curb weight of the second generation model is ≈1350 kg (± 70 kg, depending on equipment). Maximum permissible weight ≈1485 kg (± 60 kg).

In February 2017, a restyled version of the second generation KIA Soul entered the Russian market.

The dimensions have also changed slightly:

Interior

Like the exterior, the interior of the second-generation Soula has retained the previous concept, but has become noticeably more modern and technologically advanced.

Roundness and smooth lines still prevail in the design of the front panel, but at the same time its filling has become noticeably more ergonomic and thoughtful. However, the main advantage of the salon of the 2nd KIA Soul over its predecessor is the increased amount of free space. For example, in the second row, passengers were added freedom in the legs, above their heads and even in the shoulders, which, of course, had a positive effect on comfort, especially on long trips.

The Koreans took into account the mistakes of the past and noticeably improved the build quality, at the same time introducing more soft plastic and other modern materials, as well as replacing the harsh seat filler.

Another important change is improved visibility (by adjusting the driver's seat angle, upgrading the wipers, thin struts windshield and large side mirrors).

As for the trunk, its useful volume in the second generation has grown to 354 liters.

An organizer for three compartments is located under the floor, and a removable lantern appeared on the side wall.

Specifications

Initially, in Russia, the second generation KIA Soul was offered with two gasoline and one diesel engines(known from the first generation, but received a number of improvements in order to increase efficiency).

As part of the 2017 restyling, a low-demand diesel engine dropped out of the list of power units, but at the same time it was replenished with a 2.0-liter "aspirated" and a 1.6-liter turbo engine (designed for the KIA Soul GT version).

Speed and dynamics

Diesel series D4FB, offered as one of the engine options at the start of sales of the second generation of "Soul", had a working volume of 1.6 liters, was equipped with turbocharging and direct fuel injection, and developed up to 128 hp. power and 260 Nm of torque.

This power unit worked in tandem with a 6-speed "automatic" and allowed to reach a maximum speed of 177 km / h with a starting acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 12.2 seconds.

IN mixed cycle driving a diesel engine consumed about 6.0 liters of fuel.

Design features

The new platform did not affect the layout of the KIA's suspension Soul of the second generations.

Like its predecessor, the front body rests on independent suspension with MacPherson struts, stabilizer and gas shock absorbers, and at the rear on a semi-independent torsion beam, complemented by gas shock absorbers.

At the same time, almost all suspension components have been modernized and become more durable (in comparison with the first generation). The front subframe has four mounting points on the dampers, and the rear shock absorber angle has been modified to increase suspension travel.

On the wheels of the front axle, as before, ventilated disc brakes with a diameter of 280 or 300 mm (depending on the configuration) are used, but at the rear, weak drum brakes have given way to simple disc mechanisms with a diameter of 262 mm.

As in the first generation, the electric power steering Flex Steering is installed on cars of the 2nd generation, which received three operating modes: "normal", "comfort" and "sport".

The chassis of the second generation model is much stiffer than that of its predecessor. About 66% of the bogie elements are made from ultra-high-strength steel, another 31% from high-strength steel grades.

In general, the body of the second generation of Soul became 29% stiffer (when tested for torsion).

In addition, it is worth noting that the car got rid of most of the "childhood sores" (listed in the "shortcomings" of the first generation).

Safety

Objectively, one cannot say that the "second Soul" in terms of security has become worse, but formally it is so: if the first generation of "Soul" received five stars in Europe according to the results of crash tests, then the second ( after tightening EuroNCAP standards) in November 2014, only four stars were awarded (which were further confirmed in December 2015 and August 2016).

According to the American IIHS crash test standards in 2018, the KIA Soul received a rating of "Good" in all evaluated parameters, being awarded the "2018 Top Safety PICK +" award.

Flaws

Despite the excellent geometric cross-country ability and ground clearance of 164 mm, the KIA Soul was created as a city car, so it feels extremely insecure on bumpy country roads - it twitches strongly in a rut, overcomes obstacles too hard and is prone to diagonal sway when driving through holes at high speed.

The problem of a small trunk has also been preserved, which, although it has "grown", is not as strong as it is necessary for regular trips to the country.

Electric car

KIA announced plans to release an electric version of the Soul in the fall of 2013, and already in February 2014 (at the Chicago Auto Show), the public was shown a production sample of the Soul EV.

After that, sales of the electric car started: first in Korea (May 2014); then in Europe (July of the same year); and in October in California, New York, New Jersey, Oregon and Maryland, i.e. in the territories of the United States, where the corresponding infrastructure is best developed ... The electric Soul never made it to Russia.

At the start of sales, the Soul EV was equipped with a set of 96 lithium-polymer batteries with a total capacity of 27 kWh and an electric motor with a power of 109 hp. (285 Nm), a bunch of which allows you to accelerate the electric Soul from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.5 seconds.

Later, the car underwent modernization, within the framework of which it received a new 30 kWh battery, which increased the autonomous range to 179 km according to the EPA cycle.

From the express charging station, the "Electro-Soul" battery is charged by 80% in 30 minutes (the charging time from a "regular outlet" is about 4-5 hours.

KIA plans to replace this method with a wireless charging system, which was tested at the Hyundai-Kia Technical Center (HATCI) in the USA just on the KIA Soul EV.

The Korean auto giant KIA crossed the mark of 5,000 Soul EVs sold in August 2015, and in January 2016 the volume of electric vehicles sold reached 10,000 units, with almost 7,000 of them sold in Europe.

Special versions

As with the first generation, the second generation of Soul also received several special limited edition versions.

In 2014 saw the light KIA Soul Red Zone for the North American market, sold exactly 2,000 copies.

This version featured a plastic body kit with red piping, leather interior, sport pedals, lots of red accents in the interior design elements, 18-inch wheels and a 2.0-liter engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

In 2016, the turn of the version came KIA Soul Autonomous Vehicle, in which the Korean automaker tested the innovative "DriveWise" system, which integrates all existing driver assistance systems (ADAS) into one.

Based on the test results of the KIA Soul Autonomous Vehicle, the Koreans plan (in 2020) to present a new generation of the maximum autonomous cars, and then (by 2030) to develop a completely unmanned vehicle.

3rd generation (2019 -...)

The premiere of the third generation KIA Soul took place on November 28, 2018 during the Los Angeles Auto Show. Which showed three versions of the novelty (intended for the North American market):

  • electric Soul EV,
  • Off-road Soul X-Line,
  • "Sporty" Soul GT.

KIA Soul III sales are expected to start during the summer of 2019 simultaneously in all major markets (including Russia, for which Soul, as before, will be assembled at the Avtotor Kaliningrad plant).

In our country, the third generation Soul received three gasoline engine and three gearbox options, while of the cars shown in Los Angeles up to Russian roads only the Soul GT version will get, but in the future, the appearance and modifications of the Soul X-Line is possible, since such a style of crossovers in the Russian Federation is extremely in demand.

But in Europe, hooked on "the game of environmental friendliness", the third "Soul" will be represented only by an electric version of EV, which is in demand there even more than in the sunny states of the United States.

The previous two generations of Soul have won a lot of awards, especially in the field of design, so when working on the third generation, Koreans took into account the need to preserve the continuity of generations and its characteristic, which have become almost iconic, design features.
At the same time, KIA Soul III "moved" to a completely new platform, it became noticeably more technological, safer and more comfortable.

Exterior

The exterior of the third generation KIA Soul is perfectly recognizable: a raised body with angular shapes, a sharply chopped off stern and a "floating" roof, painted in a contrasting shade in most configurations. Moreover, in external appearance modern design solutions are also clearly visible, emphasizing the vector of the model's evolution towards high-tech, sports cars.

  • Soul EV

  • Soul EV

  • Soul GT

  • Soul GT
  • First, the Soul-branded C-pillars, which are both shark fins and airplane wingtips, are also worth noting.
  • Secondly, new stamps on the sidewalls and fenders give more aerodynamics and a sporty spirit to the design.
  • Thirdly, the "boomerang" shape of the rear lights also hints at sport and good aerodynamics.
  • Well, the two-story layout of the front optics and the stylish connecting bar between the DRLs are a reference to the more "adult" crossovers and SUVs that young people dream of. the main target audience of Soul.

Available in the US, the Soul GT and Soul X-Line differ mainly in the exterior styling packages and wheel designs:

  • The Soul GT has a sporty look with bumpers and sills for more aerodynamic efficiency and a set of two tailpipes located in the center of the stern.
  • Soul X-Line - Off-road look with side skirts and bumper lower edges.

In terms of dimensions, the third generation KIA Soul has once again slightly "grown" - adding 56 mm in length and, at the same time, increasing the wheelbase by 30 mm.

Thus, the dimensions of the "third Soul" are:

  • Length - 4197 mm (+56 mm)
  • Width - 1801 mm In the "base" on the KIA Soul EV (and as an option on other versions), an 8-inch projection instrument panel is available, located directly at the driver's eye level.

In general, we can say that the third-generation KIA Soul interior has acquired an even more thoughtful layout with improved ergonomics. In particular, due to the change in the geometry of the doorways and the configuration of the seats, getting in and out of the cabin has become much easier.

The widened tailgate and slightly reduced loading height simplified the loading of heavy and bulky cargo into the trunk, the volume of which has grown by about 10 liters (the manufacturer has not yet announced the exact figures).

    Specifications

In the Russian market, the third generation Kia Soul is offered with three options power plants... All engines are gasoline, used on cars previous generation, but received a number of improvements aimed at environmental friendliness and reducing fuel consumption (as a result of which their power dropped slightly).

  • The base one gets a 136-horsepower electric motor, which is complemented by a 39.2 kWh battery.
  • The flagship version is powered by a 204 hp electric motor. (395 Nm), which is designed to power the traction battery with liquid cooled and with a capacity of 64 kWh (known from an electric car Hyundai kona Electric).
  • According to the WLTP cycle, the "junior electro-soul" is able to travel on a single charge up to 277 km, the "senior" can cover 452 km.

In addition to Europe, the KIA Soul III EV is also sold in Korea and the USA.

KIA Soul EV 3rd generation is equipped with:

    • 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels;
    • system fast charging CCS from DC sources;
    • 4-mode control system Engine Drive Mode Select (modes: Eco, Eco +, Comfort and Sport);
    • intelligent regenerative braking adjustment system with four modes, switchable using the steering column switches;
    • fully LED optics;
    • infotainment system with a 10.25-inch display.

    Design features

KIA Soul III is built on the basis modular platform K2 and for the first time received a rear independent multi-link suspension(instead of a semi-independent torsion beam). In the front, as before, MacPherson struts are used.

Disc brakes are mounted on all wheels (ventilated at the front), and the steering is complemented by an electric booster with three modes of operation.

The optional all-wheel drive predicted by many experts on the third-generation KIA Soul never appeared.

    Equipment in Russia

It is expected that at the start of sales in the summer of 2019, the 3rd generation KIA Soul will be offered in the previous six trim levels: Classic, Comfort, Luxe, Premium, Prestige and GT.

According to unconfirmed official reports, the list of basic equipment will include:

If you wake up a marketer at night and ask which of the cars is the most attractive for today's youth from 16 to 22 years old, he will undoubtedly point to this bright yellow box on wheels.

In 2014, this already undisputed sales hit was completely redesigned. The chassis has become stiffer, the interior has improved, the list has expanded additional options... In addition, it has a very attractive price (in its segment, of course). But is he that good at driving?

In its press releases, Kia reiterates the Soul as an iconic car. But this is complete nonsense. Audrey Hepburn and Steve McQueen are a cult! And what about the Kia Soul? No, this is too much. However, this is not the biggest drawback of this car.

What's new in Kia Soul 2014?

Kia Soul 2014 is marketed as "completely new". In fact, it is an updated version of the car that debuted in 2010. The "new" Soul has a longer wheelbase, slightly wider and slightly shorter than the previous model. When designing it, he got a lot of elements from the 2012 Kia Trackster Concept with a 250 hp engine. with. (a car for which there would be a queue if it was on sale).

Unfortunately, as you know, just a turbine engine for 250 horses, with four-wheel drive and a mechanical six-speed Kia Soul 2014 will definitely not get it. Bummer!

But overall, the Soul is a good car. He's one of those I would recommend if you want something affordable, practical, and you have no desire to buy another dull low-budget sedan.

Appearance (7 points out of 10)

It can be compared to a trash can, but I still love the way the Soul looks. No, it’s not beautiful in the traditional sense, but it’s funny, and it also makes him different from the rest. It stands out for its uniqueness, without offending the eyes, let's say how Nissan juke... All 2014 Souls come in deliberately vibrant colors such as Acid Green, Ultra Yellow and Latte Macchiato. Wheels at least R18 - and all the girls are yours!

Salon (6 out of 10)

The first Soul I got in was rented at the airport. It looked pretty decent on the inside, at least for a subcompact car. The new Soul is much, much better, thanks to an all-new steering wheel design, glossy black plastic trim, 8-inch touchscreen, soft leather seats, starter button and large visual gauges.

More pluses: the legroom of the rear passengers has been significantly increased and a sunroof has been added. Fold down the rear seats and you have plenty of room for a trip to the Auchan or Ikea.

Cons: It's still an economy car and you can feel it throughout. A lot of cheap plastic in some places. Although, overall, not bad at all for what it is.

Dynamics (5 out of 10)

The Soul comes with one of the 4-cylinder engines: a 1.6-liter with 130 hp. with. and a 2-liter with 164 liters. with. Naturally, we tested the 2-liter unit. It is quite suitable for driving around the city and the highway. The brakes are standard for an economy car. They work very well, but you don't feel much confidence. Free pedal travel is quite decent.

Management (6 out of 10)

The Soul has a traditional MacPherson and a torsion beam in the back. The relatively soft suspension gives a lot of body roll when cornering. Despite a 29% increase in chassis stiffness compared to the old body, this is hardly noticeable.

The Soul uses a FlexSteer electric power steering with three settings (Normal, Comfort and Sport). Sport mode tightens the steering wheel significantly, making the driver feel like Jean Alesi. I recommend that you only use Soul in this mode.

Audio system and additional chips (7 out of 10)

My test car came with a 10 speaker Infinity Audio System and I loved it. Even when I listened to music on my iPhone via Bluetooth or satellite radio, it produced beautiful, clear, clear sound with a lot of bass. From the available audio systems to available cars is one of the best. In addition, neon light rings (hello xB!) Are installed around the door speakers, which glow in time to the music. Gracefully!

All Russian admirers of the Kia brand, and in particular its popular crossover Soul, gladly received the news about the earlier start of sales of the second generation of the car, which received a new chassis, a solid interior and a modified exterior. The Koreans, as before, are making a big commercial bet on the new kia soul, and the grand prix of various competitions already won by it should help the SUV in its implementation. In particular, the car won the "best vehicle design" (iF product design award), firmly established itself in the list of "best novelties of the current year" (American information resource About) and was awarded the prestigious award from the "red dot" (RedDot Design Award).

The first thing that catches your eye from the outside is that there are much fewer right angles in the exterior design, however, we must pay tribute to the designers, the appearance of Kia Soul has remained unmistakably recognizable, retaining its exceptional individuality. As before, this model simply cannot be confused with any other.

With the change of generations, kia soul, paying tribute to fashion, has grown a little larger. So, the overall length of the novelty has grown to 4140 mm, and the center distance is 2570 mm. In width, the crossover rang out up to 1800 mm, and the height indicator is 1593 mm (1605 with roof rails). The "outfit" of the youth model ranges from 1282 to 1406 kg in different designs.

The most important achievement of the 2014 kia soul interior is spaciousness. The front riders got 20 mm of additional space, but the rear ones only a modest 5 mm and little consolation in the form of greater width at shoulder level. In addition, there is a noticeable increase in comfort.

The engineers also took care of the convenience of entering and exiting, lowering the height of the body sills and seat cushions. Also, the "inhabitants" of the Kia soul salon are promised a greater level of acoustic comfort (the number of noise-absorbing mats has been increased) and a higher quality of finishing materials (almost all cheap hard plastic has been replaced with soft and pleasant to the touch).

The modest luggage compartment has also not increased much - up to 354 liters. useful volume.

Technique Kia Soul 2014

Despite the fact that the new Kia soul 2014 has a fairly extensive motor range, only two engines will visit the Russian market.

The base will be a 1.6-liter inline "four" with distributed fuel injection. Level maximum power this unit is 124 "petrol horses" (6300 rpm), and the maximum torque achieved at 4850 rpm is 152 "newtons". Such an installation can be aggregated either from a six-speed gearbox with manual switching transmissions, or in automatic transmission, which has in its arsenal a similar number of speeds. Thus, the dynamics of the "mechanical" kia soul will be 11.3 seconds. up to 100 km / h and 182 km / h maximum speed movement. The "automatic" modification will do the acceleration exercise in 12.5 seconds, and its top speed will be 177 km / h. High consumption fuel will not be marked by any of these versions: a car with a manual transmission will require an average of 7.3 l / 100 km, and the "automatic" will not raise this indicator very much - up to 7.9 liters.

The second, but not least, a diesel "heart" will be installed on Kia Soul 2014, which will have the same volume as its petrol counterpart, have the same number of cylinders and their arrangement, however, have direct fuel injection. Thus, the Koreans managed to achieve a maximum power of 128 hp. (4000 rpm) and a shelf of impressive torque of 260 Nm, stretching in the range of revolutions from 1900 - 2750. As a pair to the engine on "heavy" fuel, only an automatic transmission with six gears will be available. The dynamics of this version can hardly be called impressive (0-100 km / h in 12.2 seconds, "maximum speed" - 177 km / h), however, the owners will be pleased with the fuel efficiency - the diesel Soul "on the machine" on average asks for only 6 liters of fuel.

As mentioned above, the basis of kia soul is a completely new platform, in a stretched form borrowed from the extreme generation Kia cee'd. In addition, this chassis has undergone additional upgrades. So, the steering mechanism changed its location, the front suspension completely changed the mountings of its struts, and the rear shock absorbers went “for replacement”.

The off-road vehicle suspension schemes have not changed: in front, as before, there is an "independent" McPherson with a stabilizer, in the back there is a semi-independent beam of a torsion structure, with coil springs and mismatched gas-filled shock absorbers. Braking mechanisms"In a circle" are disc, front - with ventilation. In general brake system shows quite normal performance indicators and there are not enough stars from the sky. However, it cannot be called ineffective - representatives of the company promise that from 100 km / h the kia soul will be able to completely freeze after 35.5 m.

The crossover will have only one drive option (front), which significantly reduces its off-road qualities. In addition, the "softened" suspension allows for noticeable rolls of the increased body rigidity. But, at the same time, it "justifies" on a straight line, where maneuverability, smoothness and controllability have significantly improved. This becomes especially noticeable if you translate the electric steering wheel into a sporty algorithm of operation. In addition, Kia soul has become much better to keep the high-speed line.

Configurations and prices kia soul 2014.

For Kia Soul 2014, the price of this version will be 689 thousand 900 rubles. The most equipped car will require from 1 million 049 thousand 900 rubles.

Video review of Kia Soul 2014 second generation

For several years now, the new products of the South Korean manufacturer have aroused stable interest - not least of all this is the merit of the well-known Peter Schreier, who controls and personally participates in the creation of the exterior of new KIA cars. It should be admitted that the German specialist brought additional charm to the appearance of the new Kia Soul 2014 2015, presented last spring in New York.

Note that the company initially did not hide the main goals set for the development team: they had to preserve the recognizable corporate identity of the 1st generation, making it safer, more comfortable, functional, and also economical. A team of engineers and designers approached the creation of a front-wheel drive hatchback Kia Soul 2014 2015 more than responsible: 3 divisions of the company located in different parts of the world took part in the development at once: in California, Frankfurt, and also in Seoul. The result was not long in coming - the designers managed to make the exterior of the new car modern and more sporty, while increasing its dimensions, but retaining the familiar outlines of the previous model.

So, the front part of the hatchback looks more "courageous" relative to its predecessor - the car received a new shape of headlights, which are now connected into solid blocks, and also supplemented with LEDs running lights... Original appearance the front is crowned with a bumper of a modified shape, on which a predatory air duct, large fog lights, and an original aerodynamic lip look quite aggressive.

The stern of the compact crossover is distinguished by large and high (raised to the very roof) lighting fixtures, which nicely emphasize the overall appearance of the rear of the Kia Soul. Note the 5th door, installed almost at right angles to the surface, as well as a slightly protruding bumper, the shape of which resembles the front bumper.

Noticeable changes have also been made to the side of the Soul - openings rear doors, thanks to the increased length of the car, they became noticeably larger, the developers gave the rear roof pillar a more impressive look, the wheel arches and door surfaces became more massive. All changes affecting the sidewalls of the hatchback were aimed at increasing individual elements, as well as giving the whole car a more solid and impressive look compared to its predecessor.

  • The length of the 2nd generation Kia Soul is 4150 mm, width - 1800 mm, height - 1610 mm. Clearance grew to 165 mm, and wheelbase increased to 2570 mm.
  • All the basic parameters of the new South Korean crossover, with the exception of the height, exceed the dimensions of the previous generation: recall that the 1st generation Kia Soul had a length of 4120 mm, a width of 1785 mm, a height of 1610 mm, and a wheelbase of 2550 mm.

Different versions of the car are equipped with treads 205/55 R16, 215/50 R17, or huge tires 235/45 R18, supplied with alloy wheels 16, 17, and 18 radii.

The changes affected and colors available for the new 2015 Kia Soul compact crossover: in addition to the previously offered white, olive, vanilla, salad, silver, dark red, dark blue, dark gray, and black, buyers can now choose bright red and poison yellow color options.

Noticeable changes have also taken place inside the car: the location of the instruments has changed, the front panel with the center console has been transformed. The driver's seat is now equipped with a more convenient multifunctional steering wheel, the upholstery of the door cards and the design of the handles have changed. The quality of the materials used in the interior trim (which was quite good in the first model as well) has also improved, the sound and noise insulation of the interior has become of better quality, the number of various systems installed in the car has increased.

However, one of the main advantages of the interior space of the 2nd generation "Sol" is its significant increase (again, thanks to the increased dimensions of the car) - this applies to free space, both in the first and second rows. Thus, an increase in the wheelbase made it possible to add 20.3 mm of free legroom for the front passenger and driver, and 5.1 mm for the rear passengers. The increase in the width of the car contributed to the increase in the width of the cabin - the space for the shoulders of passengers increased by 7.62 mm. Despite the fact that the numbers may seem insignificant, in practice, the increase in free space is felt immediately - the front row passenger and the driver have become much more comfortable to sit. Passengers at the rear, in addition to increasing free space, have received another advantage - now they will be able to disembark and disembark much more comfortably, which is facilitated by significantly increased doorways at the rear.

A total increase in parameters also affected the luggage compartment - it can easily accommodate 345 liters of cargo (if loaded to the shelf), or 685 liters (when loaded to the ceiling), if there are all 5 passengers in the cabin. Transforming the rear seats, the volume luggage compartment will increase to 1,550 liters - its surface will turn into a flat area.

Even the basic versions of Soul 2014 are equipped with quite decent equipment: heated electric mirrors, air conditioning, changing the position of the steering column, solid audio (CD, MP3, radio, AUX, USB, Bluetooth, the presence of 6 speakers), heated front seats, power windows for all doors. The safety of crew members is ensured by disc brakes, from 2 to 8 airbags, ABS, stability control system, active driving assistant, hill start assist, emergency braking warning system.

The most expensive modification will additionally receive a keyless entry function, the ability to start with a button, cruise control, a large touchscreen monitor (the image of the rear camera, multimedia, navigator will be displayed on it), climate control, premium audio system Infinity. We also note the leather-trimmed steering wheel, gearshift knobs, heated steering wheel and seats in both rows, electric drive for driver's seat settings, LED lighting in the cabin, panoramic roof, etc. Domestic motorists should pay attention to the fact that the equipment of the latest versions available in Russia may differ slightly from those indicated by us.

Kia Soul 2014 2015 Specifications
