Dismantling the steering column


For this procedure, you must prepare:

  • key for 8 (ring);
  • 13 (end);
  • phillips screwdriver.

Before starting work, it is important to disconnect the battery. It is enough for this to remove the wire from the negative terminal.

  • remove the steering wheel;
  • the plastic shields are removed from the column (they are held on two screws and clamps each);
  • dismantle the lower part of the lining by unscrewing 4 bolts;
  • disconnect the wires from the lock and turn signal switch, etc.;
  • with a key of 8, partially loosen the clamp holding the above devices and completely remove them;
  • pull out the detachable terminals of the EUR controller;
  • remove the plastic cover.

    1 The role of the electric booster in the steering of the VAZ 2170 Priora

    Electric power steering is a more modern and well thought-out mechanism that allows you to improve steering... The EUR is easier to operate, does not require additional fluids and pipelines, does not take engine power and provides maximum comfort. However, this mechanism also has a number of disadvantages, the first of which is the insufficient amount of feedback between the roadbed and the control system. Because of this, for example, on a snowy road, certain difficulties may arise, which is often noticed by the owners of VAZ Priora and other domestic models. And if foreign cars that are equipped with EUR have additional systems stabilization and blocking, then on Priora models, especially on the first versions, there are no such locks.     2 Diagnostics and repair of faults of the power steering on Priora

    4 Removing and installing an electric amplifier on a VAZ Priora with your own hands

    To remove the EUR from the Priora, you must have a set of standard and Phillips screwdrivers, keys 8 "and 13" with a socket head. The first step is to disconnect the negative terminal with the battery, then you will need to remove the steering wheel, as described in the operating instructions, the decorative trim under the steering wheel and the plastic trim of the instrument panel.


  1. Through phillips screwdriver unscrew the 4 self-tapping screws from the bottom steering panel pad.
  2. Pads with wires should be disconnected from the steering column switch together with a slip ring.
  3. Using an 8 "wrench, unscrew the bolt, which will disconnect the wires coming from the ignition switch.
  4. Press down on the plastic clips and disconnect the wiring harnesses at the top and bottom of the steering column.
  5. At the place where the EUR is attached to the steering column, it is necessary to remove the decorative plastic curtain by pressing the clips.
  6. Use a socket wrench to loosen the nuts securing the lower part of the steering column.

To take off intermediate shaft, using a 13 "wrench, remove the bolt that secures cardan joints intermediate shaft... Next, unscrew the two fastening nuts on the right and left sides and remove steering column... After that, remove the bolt and remove the universal joint from the splined shaft of the steering gear.
