Parking step by step instructions for beginners. Parallel and perpendicular parking in reverse

Parallel parking Is a necessary skill for a driver in an urban environment, so special exercises were even invented to teach it.

Dear Readers! The article talks about typical ways of solving legal issues, but each case is individual. If you want to know how to solve your problem - contact a consultant:

It is fast and IS FREE!

However, first of all, it is worth figuring out what the essence of this type of parking is.

What is parallel parking

It is very simple to explain this with an example, since every driver, leaving the city, regularly sees cars parked in parallel.

The essence of the method is that the cars stand along the road, due to which they do not take up much space and are located very compactly.

As you can see in the photo, sometimes it can be difficult for cars to exit and continue driving if another car has parked too close and left little free space. This is a big problem with this method of parking, because not all motorists, especially beginners, know how to do it correctly.

In order not to interfere with other road users, you need to park the car very carefully and calculate how convenient it will be to leave later.

To do it right, you need more than just driving experience, but also a sense of the dimensions of the car, as well as the ability to sensibly assess the distance to objects, using mirrors as efficiently as possible.

Sometimes, special markings are made on the roads, which strictly limits the area for parallel parking. However, if there is no such markings, this does not mean that parking cars in this way is prohibited.

Most often, you can use parallel parking almost anywhere, and the most important rule is not to interfere with the main traffic.

This is especially common in various yards, where cars almost always stand in a row parallel to each other. In this case, it is really very convenient for them to leave and there is enough space for everyone, if, of course, the drivers comply with the basic ones.

When performing this exercise in driving schools, the size of the area to be parked on is usually very strict.

This is due to the fact that the driver must learn to park the car as accurately and safely as possible for other road users. Accordingly, the exercise is made quite difficult.

In practice, the space is usually not limited, and the main criterion for assessing it is the ease of exit for nearby cars.

As for the specific numbers, according to the standard:

  • the length of the parking space is 2 vehicle lengths. This makes it possible to drive between two adjacent vehicles as conveniently as possible, and with the proper skill, it will be difficult to touch them;
  • the standard width of the parking space is equal to the width of the car itself + 1 meter.

These were proportional parameters, but in driving schools everything is very strict, and when passing the exam, the width and length are determined as accurately as possible in order to equalize the drivers different cars... The designated parking area is usually 8.8 meters long and 2.8 meters wide.

This is enough to deliver a car of standard sizes without any problems. The dimensions of the parking space are clearly visible in the pictures.

We should also pay special attention to the size of the car. If a student tests in his own car, whatever size it may be, the markup is not adjusted for individual cases. In order for students to different cars were in the same conditions, a restriction on the dimensions of the car was introduced.

The standard car is considered to be 4.4 meters long and 1.8 meters wide. Only those vehicles are allowed to pass the exam, the parameters of which deviate from the standard by no more than 30 cm.

Parallel parking rules

There are several basic rules, following which you can park your car as conveniently as possible for yourself and others.

Here are the main ones:

  1. Distance to front and rear car should be at least one and a half meters.

This is probably the most important rule since its violation can entail serious consequences. IN best case the drivers of neighboring cars will be extremely unhappy and will start looking for a person who has put his vehicle so wrongly. This, of course, is not pleasant, but there is also a more unpleasant option when the driver tries to leave and touches someone else's car. Then you have to figure out who is wrong for a long time, waste your nerves with repairs, and so on. It is best to set the car up in advance so as not to have any problems.

  2. .

When positioning your car, you need to think not only about a number of parked cars, but also about those that will pass by. It is very important that the car does not stick out from the general joy, thereby making it difficult to travel and provoking various collisions.

  3. After completing parking, you need to get out of the car and check the distances. This helps to ensure that the vehicle is parked safely and comfortably. If in doubt, it is better not to be lazy and spend a few minutes on alignment.
  4. These were the basic rules that must be followed to good parking... Following them, even a novice car enthusiast will be able to place his car so that it is convenient to leave himself and not interfere with other drivers.

    Some Secrets for Successful Parking

    Here are some:

    1. Parallel parking is much more convenient when reversing. Of course, there are craftsmen who do it the other way around, but even they will not argue that cars when parking in reverse are much more maneuverable and easier to control. However, do not forget that in this case the car reacts very sharply to the slightest turns of the steering wheel, therefore, a high level of concentration is required when driving.
    2. When approaching a parking space, you need to drive up to the vehicle in front close enough to make it convenient to maneuver. The distance should be approximately half a meter. Naturally, in order to determine this, it will take some driving experience and a sense of the car, but if this is not the case, then it is better to go out and look at the distance from the outside so that there are no unpleasant consequences.
    3. It's not worth turning the steering wheel in placealthough it is very popular with aspiring car enthusiasts. In fact, it does sometimes help to simplify driving a vehicle, however, the frictional force that occurs between the asphalt and a standing car is too strong, so this method of driving will eventually lead to irreversible damage and contact a service center.

    How to do the exercise

In modern driving schools, such an exercise as parallel parking is very often given. Its essence lies in the fact that the student has to park the car in a special area fenced with flags or other signs.

This diagram shows that the space in which you can make movements in this exercise is very limited. One of the main factors for successfully passing the test is the ability to feel the slightest movements of your vehicle and the distance to nearby objects.

Usually, the length of the entire fenced area consists of the length of the parking lot itself, which is equal to two standard car sizes, plus one more standard car size that simulates the car in front.

The exercise algorithm is as follows:

    1. You need to drive forward, standing at a distance of half a meter from the left border.
    2. Then start backing up, twisting the steering wheel to the right or left, depending on which side the parking zone is on.
    3. Stand in the designated area as straight as possible.
    4. Align the vehicle.

The exercise is very simple if step-by-step instruction performed without violations. An online simulator will help you practice execution, which will teach you to better understand the movements.

It will allow you to look at the car's maneuvers using a top view. This will be a plus on the exam, but it will not replace full-fledged training.

    Common mistakes

The most common mistakes of drivers are given:

    1. Students are too close to the left edge of the line, in order to minimize the alignment process in the future and to get up as correctly as possible from the first twisting, This is fraught with the fact that when passing back, you can accidentally knock off the flag or go outside the line. On the exam, this, of course, seems like a trifle, but in life such carelessness would lead to damage to your own and someone else's car, so they are very much fined for it.
    2. Not full steering wheel turn... In order to get up as correctly as possible the first time, it is necessary to turn the steering wheel completely when turning. This will make the alignment process easier, but many people neglect it. Of course, driving schools are not fined specifically for this, but such inattention can result in a loss of time, which, as you know, is limited on the exam.
    3. Incomplete crossing of the lateral line. As mentioned earlier, the car should not stick out from the general row of cars, and if the line is not completely crossed, this is exactly what will happen on the road, which means that the main movement will be difficult.

The system of punishment for violations in the exam

In order to pass the exam, you need to score a certain number of points. This implies that the student can make some mistakes and still pass if they are not very serious.

Penalty points for different types violations are as follows:

      1. Test timing violation - 3 points.
      2. Crossing the markings, damage to flags - 3 points.
      3. Incomplete crossing of the line - 3 points.
      4. Engine stalled - 1 point.
      5. Driving over a solid line with a wheel - 1 point.

If none of these points was violated, the exam can be considered passed.

      Wrong parking fines

The amount of the fine for incorrect parking in Russian Federation defined by the Code on Administrative Offenses or the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.

This document provides for all possible violations, according to the traffic rules, as well as defines what parking is, and how it differs from parking.

The amount of fines provided for various vehicles, be it trucks, or cars, can be seen in the table:

The issue of forced evacuation in each case is considered separately, but most often in places where such measures are carried out, there is a special sign "A tow truck is working".

It is also important to note that the amount of fines for violation of the sign and parking in inappropriate places in the table are accurate for regions only. If we are talking about Moscow or St. Petersburg, the amount of the fine will be 2 times higher.

      Good afternoon, dear reader.

In the next article in the series "Hand over the race track with a half kick" we will talk about an exercise that can be safely attributed to the group of difficult ones. It is called parallel parking in reverse.

As for the second difficult exercise, called, it was considered in the previous article.

Frankly speaking, parallel parking at the track is not much more difficult than the other exercises, but most often it is because of it that candidates for drivers do not pass the exam at the traffic police. Therefore, let's take a look at the optimal order for this exercise, as well as discuss common mistakes and problems:

      Exercise outline

Execution area reverse parking is presented in the following figure:

It simulates a section of the road on which 2 cars are parked below (by the sidewalk or sidewalk), between which the candidate for drivers must carefully park their own car using parallel parking.

If in the process of training in a driving school you learn to do parking in reverse, then you will greatly facilitate your life in the future.

Note. The distance between the standing cars on the diagram is small - only 2 lengths of our car. Therefore, parking in front will not work, because the rear of the vehicle will protrude substantially out of the pocket.

To get out of this situation, the compilers of the examination exercises suggest using a method that is officially called "parallel parking in reverse".

Please note that parallel parking can be useful not only when passing the exam at the traffic police, but also in a real traffic situation.

Well, given the constant growth in the number personal cars and a chronic shortage of parking spaces, in practice this maneuver has to be performed very often.

      Parallel Parking Procedure

Let's look at what needs to be achieved as a result of the exercise:

      1. Drive up to the start line of the exercise, stop. Please note that the line of the beginning of the exercise is in the figure above the cone number 1.
      2. Cross the line of the beginning of the exercise and stop.
      3. Drive between imaginary cars in reverse.
      4. Stay.
      5. Move out of the exercise area.

In addition, the administrative regulations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs regulate the trajectory along which the driver must complete the exercise. Therefore the only possible way pass the exam is a parallel parking in one run (reverse gear can only be engaged once).

      Error table for exercise

The first column of the table contains descriptions of possible errors, and the second - the number of errors that can be made. 0 means that after the first mistake the exam is given the mark "DO NOT Pass".

      Mistake Possible quantity
113.1. Did not start the test exercise within 30 seconds after receiving the command (signal) to start its execution.0
113.2. Shot down the marking equipment.2
113.3. Drove along the projection of the vehicle dimensions beyond the boundaries of the test exercise sections, indicated by lines road markings 1.1 white or 1.4 yellow and marking cones (marking stands), or drove the wheel onto the marking line, which marks the boundaries of the test exercises, depending on the conditions of the test exercise.0
113.5. Didn't cross the control line external dimensions vehicle in cases where the crossing of the control line is provided for by the conditions of the test exercise.0
113.6. Deviated from the specified trajectory of movement, provided for by the conditions of the test exercise.0
113.7. Allowed the engine to stop.2
113.15. Left the exam (refused the test exercise).0

      Parallel parking step by step

Let's take a look at the step-by-step instructions for doing the exercise:

      1. Move towards the start line of the exercise, stop immediately in front of it.

      2. Move off and start moving forward.

The main task at this stage is to drive the right side of the car as close as possible to the counter number 1. In addition, the car must completely cross the broken line of the beginning of the exercise.

      3. Stop and engage reverse gear. Do not change the position of the steering wheel.

The next step is to drive a short distance in a straight line. goal of this paragraph - put right rear wheel car next to cone number 1. You can check the position of the cone through the right rear-view mirror.

      4. Stop at counter 1, turn the steering wheel to the right side until it stops.

      5. Start driving in reverse. When doing this, look in the left mirror! The car gradually turns towards the parking space. You need to move exactly until the chip number 2 appears in the mirror ( correct position shown in the figure below).

      6. As soon as you see the chip in the mirror, stop.

      7. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle is going straight ahead, ie. return it to its original position.

      8. Start driving in reverse. Look in the left mirror at the broken lane mark and the left rear wheel of the vehicle. As soon as the wheel crosses the line (you need to move just a little), stop.

      9. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.

      Good luck with exams!

Add another bug fix to the article. If you start knocking down the lower chips in the picture with the rear right bumper of the car, that is, you have already driven very deep into your pocket, then you need to unscrew the wheels to the right (3 turns of the steering wheel), turn on the first gear, and align the car. I had just such a situation, despite the fact that there was a very small distance to the stop line at chip 1, these 20-30 cm were enough for me to level the car, it stood perfectly exactly in the middle of the pocket, the front stop line did not cross, the back the transmission did not have to be switched on anymore, as a result 0 penalty points and the delivery of the exercise In general, on the Internet, instructors teach how to do the exercise correctly, but unfortunately no one gives advice on how to fix the situation when something went wrong. For example, I pressed myself against chip 1, drove very far, immediately turned the steering wheel, as a result, I did not want to get in front of the car because of chip 1, I had to turn the steering wheel back half a turn, drive a little like this, then realizing that now it would fit in, I tightened it it all the way to the left, but the car's ass did not fit (it was clear from the mirrors that I would knock down the chips in the figure, they are lower), stood there, thought for half a minute, and made the right decision: he twisted the steering wheel to the right side all the way and drove a little forward.

Hello! The inspector declared that I did not hand over the race track after I completed the exercise - parking! I did everything perfectly, but he said that the exercise was not finished. I didn’t leave her. There are no points for this, is the inspector right in this situation?

      Anatoly-11

2 car lengths ... Where have you seen SUCH empty seats in your life ?! I park end-to-end front-back (see 20 free space on both sides, max.). You need to teach parking, if there is at least a meter of free space, it will be much easier further.

Shl. on the front wheel drive SO park in general a fairy tale!

AnatolyDespite such a large amount of space on the exam, not all drivers can complete this exercise without errors.

      Good luck on the road!

      Hope-22

The instructor does not allow me to stop. Only once to shift into reverse.

Hope, it's not very good. It is more difficult to make parallel parking without stops, the chance of making a mistake is greater.

      Good luck with exams!

      Natalia-14

The next question! After all, drive up to rack number 1 with the rear right wheel, or should you "drive" it by all means? This article says that you do not need to drive through it. But in the regulations, the diagram shows the position of the car before engaging reverse gear as if it had already passed this counter:

maybe it doesn't matter at all?

Every driver should know how to park well. Some people acquire this important skill while studying at a driving school, but not all after obtaining driving license may say they can reverse park correctly. One of the most daunting maneuvers for newbies is parallel parking. About it, as well as other parking methods, will be discussed in today's article.

The ability to confidently park your car in reverse will definitely come in handy. It is difficult even to imagine how to even drive a car in big city, and not only in large, not knowing how to perform this procedure. Of course, very few people manage to immediately become a parking master; practice is very important in this matter. But first you need to clearly understand how to act in a given situation.

We'll look at several ways to reverse parking between two cars.

Method 1: perpendicular parking on the right

In the parking lot, follow the same rules as on the road, keeping to the right side of the lane between the rows of parked cars.

After choosing a parking spot to the right of your car, turn on the right turn signal so that other drivers know that you plan to park in that spot.

Drive slowly past an empty parking space, making sure there is enough space for your vehicle. Check the parking lot for obstructions and make sure that cars on both sides are actually parked.

When passing by, slow down to a minimum. Stay about 1 meter from parked cars.

When your rear bumper is flush with the left side of the car parked to the right of your chosen spot ( brown car in the figure), stop completely.

Step 2. Prepare for movement. Engage reverse gear. Make sure that the direction indicator is on during the maneuver.

Look in the mirrors and make sure there are no other vehicles behind or near you.

Follow the right side of your car using the right mirror. Keep the corner of the rear bumper in line of sight and maintain a distance between it and the parked vehicle.

Step 3. Start parking in reverse. Turn the steering wheel as far to the right as possible, then turn it half a turn to the left.

Council. When reversing, place your right hand on the back of the front passenger seat and look over your right shoulder. The steering wheel can only be rotated with the left hand.

Drive slowly on reverse gear... You will find yourself in a parking spot. Look in the left mirror periodically to avoid colliding with a car on your left.

Step 4. Make adjustments if necessary. Make small adjustments with the steering wheel to center the car in the center of the parking space.

Council. It is important to understand dimensions your car. It is difficult to determine the length of a car while in the driver's seat. If necessary, get out of the car while parking and check its position to make sure you do not snag on other vehicles.

If you come too close to the vehicle on the other side of your vehicle, stop. Shift into first gear and lean forward slightly to correct the position of the car in the parking space.

Step 5. Back up to the end. Continue driving until the distance between rear bumper and the border of the parking space will not be 15-30 cm. Be aware of vehicles and obstacles such as curbs, lamp posts and supermarket carts. Leave 15-30 cm between the bumper and various obstacles.

Estimate the distance between your car and other vehicles. Make sure to leave enough room for the doors to open.

If there is not enough room to get out of your car or cars located nearby, engage first gear and slowly move forward, correcting the position of your car. Try to center your car and head back.

Method 2: perpendicular parking on the left

If you liked parking spacelocated to the left in the direction of travel, you can do the following:

      • find a place for a U-turn, after which the "cell" for parking will be already on the right side (and then you already know what to do);
      • wait until oncoming cars pass, and park in the place you like in reverse.

Council. If you decide to park on the left, you need to do it calmly but quickly. A long parking process blocks traffic and annoys other drivers.

Step 1. Select a parking space. Analyze the oncoming traffic in the parking lot. Turn on the left turn signal, which will inform other road users that you plan to park.

When there are no oncoming cars, go to the left side of the lane and keep about 1 meter from the cars parked on the left.

Step 2. Choose a suitable position. Stop your car the moment your rear bumper aligns with the corner of the bumper of your parked car.

Step 3. Engage reverse gear and start parking between cars. Turn steering wheel all the way to the left, and then back to the right about half a turn.

Step 4. Continue to park slowly. Look in the left rearview mirror to maintain a safe distance between the rear bumper and the vehicle near you.

Constantly check your surroundings through the right-hand mirror and the interior mirror to make sure you don't bump into other vehicles or obstacles.

Step 5. Finish driving in reverse gear. When your vehicle parallel with other vehicles, align the wheels by turning the steering wheel to its original position.

Continue slowly backing until there is 15-30 cm between the rear bumper and obstacles or markings.

Step 6. Apply the parking brake. Estimate the distance to vehicles on the sides and behind you. If you drive too close to one of the cars and it will create difficulties for getting in / out, you need to correct the position of the car.

Method 3: parallel parking in reverse

Parallel parking can be intimidating even for experienced drivers, especially in heavy traffic areas. Remain calm during the procedure. Practicing in low-traffic areas ahead of time will prepare you and help you avoid unnecessary stress in the future when you find yourself in heavy traffic.

Council. If you plan to park on the left side of the street, for example, if there is one-way traffic, follow the tips published below, but replace the left with the right and vice versa.

Step 1. Approach the parking space. As soon as you notice appropriate place for parallel parking on the right in the direction of travel, slowly approach it by turning on the right direction indicator.

Step 2. Place the car in its original position. Drive past an empty seat and stop at the moment when the rear bumpers of yours and nearby standing car will be approximately at the same level. The distance between your cars should be approximately 30-50 cm.

Step 3. Prepare for parking. Engage reverse gear, turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops and hold it in this position.

Step 4. Start back slowly. Your vehicle must first enter the parking space at an angle. Be careful when using the steering wheel with both hands.

Step 5. Align the wheels. When the driver's side mirror is aligned with the car's rear bumper on the right side, stop for a second and align the wheels (they should be straight).

Continue to drive back slowly until the right corner of the front bumper is aligned with the rear bumper of the vehicle parked in front.

Step 6. Turn the steering wheel to the left. Stop for a second and turn the steering wheel all the way to the left.

Continue in reverse gear. The front of your car will turn into the correct position at the selected location.

Step 7. Back up until your vehicle is parallel to the curb. Try to keep the distance between your car and the curb between 15 and 45 cm.

Step 8. Correct the position of the car if necessary. Align the steering wheel. Move backward until you are 15-30 cm from the bumper of the car behind you. Turn the steering wheel in the direction you need to align the position of the car.

Drive forward so that your vehicle is approximately centered between the front and rear vehicles.

You can easily get out of the parking space by backing slightly, then turning the front wheels to the left and driving slowly forward. Once your front bumper and rear bumper of the vehicle in front have successfully cleared, you can neatly blend in with the traffic.

Reversing parking can be as simple as it is difficult. But constant practice, clear step-by-step instructions (diagram) that must be kept in mind, and the ability to relax will help even novice drivers cope with this task.

"How to park correctly?" - this question torments absolutely every novice car enthusiast. The Internet is just replete with various funny videos on the topic of improper parking. Thousands of knocked down pillars, scratched cars and many other unpleasant moments associated with parking, make you put off all your business and plunge into an article dedicated to the rules of correct parking. We hope that the material below will help you avoid all the troubles and become an assistant in the ability to carry out the correct parking.

The root of all evil, or the main mistakes of the novice motorist when parking

The main trouble of all is the fear of committing a wrong action. Incorrect calculation of the distance to the object or the fear of being ridiculed is becoming the most common cause of emergency parking. The subconsciously insecure motorist cannot concentrate on the parking process and makes a fatal mistake. Therefore, everyone who wants to understand how to park correctly must first get rid of their fears.

The second most popular reason for incorrect parking is the calculation error when parking to the curb. Not having commensurate the height of his car with the height of the curb, the beginner in one motion completely demolishes the muffler or significantly damages the bumper.

However, most of all motorists are tormented by the question of how to park in reverse. The presence of some discomfort in the early stages or a vague idea of \u200b\u200bthe dimensions of your car becomes common reason damage to its various parts. Be that as it may, the main reason for all the troubles is the incorrect calculation of the distance to a nearby object.

Constant training is the key to successful parking

The basics of knowledge on how to park in reverse between cars are laid within the walls of a driving school along with. However, some, having barely crossed its threshold, forget them, others cannot apply the acquired knowledge in practice. Special time devoted to practicing parking skills is rare in driving schools today. Therefore, those who decide to master the art of correct parking should practice on a specially designated area.

Having previously driven in racks or small pegs (a supposed car acting as a hindrance in parking) at a distance of the length of the parking car, the motorist will be able to hone his skills and maximally "feel" the dimensions of his car.

Reading is a great option for those dreaming about how to learn how to park. study guide V.A. Molokov "Learning to drive from A to Z". Written in the simplest and most accessible language for understanding, the colorful educational material will make it easy to master the theory of correct parking and easily implement it.

      Parallel Parking Basics

Most effective method mastering the rules of how to park in reverse between cars - the practice of driving in conditions as close to reality as possible. After placing your car in line with another car, try slowly reversing to take a free space between the car in the back and the vehicle in front. Effective training in parallel parking is only possible when the distance between cars does not exceed 50 cm.

The entire parallel parking procedure is as follows:

      1. Slowly moving backward, turn the steering wheel to the right side until the extension of the left side of your car passes the point of the right front of the car in the back.
      2. Turn the wheels into back side, until they accept a direct position.
      3. Continuing to move slowly, move until the right side of your car passes the rear left corner of the car in front.
      4. Turn the steering wheel to the left (the front car is left behind).
      5. When you approach the vehicle behind you slowly, stop.
      6. Leaving the wheels in the inverted position to the left, you will have no problems leaving the parking lot.

The main rule during the entire parking procedure is not to rush. If you follow it, success is guaranteed.

How to park in reverse - nearby parking secrets

A fairly common occurrence that most motorists encounter is a limited parking space. The high density of parked cars and cramped conditions make you look for various optimal parking methods. In this case perfect solution will become the nearest parking in reverse. It is not only the most adapted to such conditions, but also the most comfortable. The apparent complexity of such a parking, in fact, does not cause difficulty even for a beginner. The main thing is to study, study and study again. And experience will definitely come!

The stages of performing such a maneuver are as follows:

      1. Start moving the car from the most convenient and closest point to the proposed parking spot, having previously installed the wheels on the parking line.
      2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or left (it all depends on the specific situation).
      3. Start driving in the opposite direction to the parking lot at an angle of 45%.
      4. After seeing in the mirror the corner of the car, in the future located to the right of your parking space, stop the movement.
      5. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the parking area and start slowly moving back. While driving, monitor the situation by using the side mirrors.
      6. Having driven into a parking space, stop when your door and side mirrors equal to the door and side mirrors of a nearby car.

How to learn how to park in reverse correctly is described in the video:

How to learn to park in front parallel parking?

Experienced motorists have repeatedly encountered situations where rear parking cannot be carried out. Do not be intimidated by such situations, as there is always the opportunity to park in front.

      Just follow the instructions below:

      1. Stop the car when you are in front of the side car, leveling your shoulders with the front bumper standing next to cars. Considering right-hand traffic, the vehicle will be on the right side of your vehicle.
      2. Turn the steering wheel in the direction of the parking lot and slowly continue moving forward until the car is parallel to the curb. The side mirrors will help you with this.
      3. With the wheels aligned, reverse.

When parking behind any car, do not forget to leave enough free space in front of you to freely leave the parking lot when it is not possible to reverse. Strictly observe the observance of the interval with nearby cars when parking sideways! The most optimal distance between neighboring cars should be equal to the width necessary for the free opening of the driver's or passenger's door of the car. Otherwise, opening the door can damage the car parked nearby. Be careful when approaching the sidewalk. The lack of proper distance between it and your vehicle may cause grazing on curbs or other objects in the vicinity.

We hope that the above material will allow you to more quickly master the skill of correct parking. Lack of haste and fear will serve you well in this difficult task and will allow you to easily and simply cope with any difficult maneuver.

The parallel parking exercise is carried out in any driving school and must be passed when passing exams at the traffic police. According to statistics, it is with this exercise that most cadets have the greatest problems. Therefore, further we will analyze in detail the nuances of its implementation.

What is the essence of this exercise

The main goal of this exercise is to park the car on the side of the road (or the edge of the roadway) in a confined space, that is, between two standing cars. It takes hours of practice to learn how to do this. Therefore, it is always initially honed at the circuit, where identification checkers play the role of cars. If you do not work out these skills to the point of automatism, training will turn out to be very expensive, because a person will inevitably leave dents on neighboring vehicles.

Even successfully received driver's license, experts advise for some time to practice parallel parking at the autodrome (or on any vacant lot, independently constructing obstacles from improvised means).

If you do not learn how to perform parallel parking, you simply will not be able to park your car on busy streets. Moreover, if you perform too long this procedure, with a high degree of probability, annoying signals from other drivers will follow, which you start to interfere with. Therefore, it is extremely important to be able to "automatically" park the car so as not to create exciting situations.

      Exercise technique

The parallel parking exercise is performed in the following sequence of actions:

      1. We smoothly drive up to an empty seat. You need to stop strictly on the same line relative to the car behind which parking is planned. It is important to maintain a distance of 0.5-1 meter, or in other words, so that the free space is 1.5 times larger than the dimensions of your iron horse... Of course very experienced drivers can squeeze into more confined spaces, but if you are not one of them, this is not worth the risk.
      2. The next step is to turn the steering wheel to the right until it stops and start moving in reverse. Do not forget to turn on the "turn signal" before making a maneuver in order to warn other road users about it.
      3. When the headlight behind the stationary vehicle is fully visible in the rearview mirror, you must stop.
      4. The steering wheel returns to the neutral position and begins a leisurely movement backward until the right mirror is aligned with the rear bumper of the car in front. When this moment comes, you need to stop.
      5. The steering wheel is turned all the way to the left and reversing starts again until the car is parallel to the curb between the two vehicles. To analyze the dimensions, work with the rear-view mirrors. Almost all instructors prohibit leaning out of the window when parking. This is logical, because inexperienced drivers need to be taught how to use mirrors. However, at first, if convenient, you can still use such a "forbidden" technique. It's better than scratching someone else's car anyway.
      6. If you did everything correctly, the car will line up with the neighboring ones. If the angle turns out to be a curve, the free space (by maintaining the gap) will allow you to correct it. This is done with a simple back and forth movement. It is not advisable to leave the car if any of its angles protrude beyond the common line, as this may interfere with other road users.

What to look out for before performing this maneuver

Consider a situation when you plan to make a parallel parking not on the autodrome, but on a real roadway.

The first step is to carefully assess the room for maneuver. In particular, check the following:

      • The gap in which you decide to park your car will be enough to make the maneuver. In this case, you need a good eye. It is at the autodrome that there is always enough space for a comfortable car to enter it. On real roads, it is possible that after the start of the maneuver, the driver realizes that there is not enough space and begins to reverse actions, coupled with a certain panic inherent in beginners, it will take a lot of time. The length of the gap must be at least 2.5 meters (for light vehicles). Therefore, it is important to teach how to determine such a distance by eye.
      • Think about other road users. It is quite possible that there is a free space in a dense row of cars due to the fact that it is, for example, an exit to a walking path. Therefore, before making a maneuver, make sure that the car you leave will not interfere with other people. Otherwise, there is a great risk of earning negative shouts or lack of air in the tires (no one likes boors on the roads).
      • When assessing the possibility of making a maneuver regarding traffic rules, be guided exclusively by road signs... Do not assume that if several cars are in a row, it means that parking in this place is allowed. Not all drivers comply with traffic rules. Car inspectors absolutely do not care how many drivers are fined - one or a dozen.
      • Also evaluate the safety of the place where you are going to park your car. There may be a leaning tree or other source of danger nearby.
      • In the end, recall golden Rule - cars with four-wheel drive have a smaller turning radius. Consider this when assessing the feasibility of a maneuver.

Theory has absolutely no meaning without practice. To master this maneuver, try to practice as much as possible. At any driving school you can take extra hours for free driving. This time can be used to hone the most difficult exercises, which include parallel parking and snake.
