More car for less money - that's about what we need, right? We decided to measure the dimensions available sedans and their prices in order to understand which of the manufacturers offers machines according to the coveted formula.
The compact hatchback fits perfectly into the life of an inhabitant of a busy metropolis: it requires little fuel, narrow streets it is easier to maneuver, and it is more pleasant to park in a few parking lots. That is why the hatchback is still the best-selling car in Europe. Volkswagen Golf, and 4 other places in the Top 5 are occupied by hatches: Fiesta, Clio, Polo and Corsa. Well, if a European man in a car, in addition to himself, has to carry some cargo, then instead of a hatchback, a car in a station wagon will most likely be purchased.
We have a slightly different mentality - compact hatchbacks and roomy station wagons, as a rule, go to the second (or even third) plan, giving the palm to another type of body. Most of our compatriots, of course, need it exactly - a car that is proudly called "sedan"! And the bigger the sedan, the better!
Automakers understand this, and therefore bring cars to the Russian market that should definitely be in demand - budget (for everyone) sedans! And if now you need budget sedan, then there really is plenty to choose from. And in the matter of choosing a new car, in addition to all the pros and cons, options and engines, for many, the decisive factors are the size and spaciousness. Therefore, we decided to compare the dimensions of the eight most popular budget cars of our market and find the answer to the important question: "Which of them is bigger?"
To determine the largest car, we will introduce the frivolous concept of "car area", for this we will simply multiply the length by width, as in primary school... The measure, as you understand, is very conditional, but, nevertheless, it is impossible to take into account only one length when determining the dimensions.

And this is what our Top 10 looks like:
In tenth place - the most sold state employee in Russia Lada Granta with dimensions of 4260 mm in length and exactly 1700 mm in width. Multiplying one by the other, we get 7.242 square meters - this will be our "car area". The car is really more compact than its competitors, but for an unprecedented price of 332,000 rubles for the starting configuration, it can probably be forgiven.
The ninth line is Lada priora: its length is 4350 mm, width is 1680 mm, and its “area” is 7.308 m2. The car is well-deserved: on the assembly line since 2007, but after restyling at the end of 2013 it has a completely modern filling. The price is significantly higher than Grants, although it does not seem high against the background of competitors: 443,000 rubles.
And again Togliatti. In eighth place located produced at VAZ Datsun On-Do... On-Do is essentially a reincarnation of Lada Granta, but, what is important for us, with increased length. The length of the On-Do is 4337 mm - although it is less than that of the Priora, the width of 1700 mm allows Datsun to be one line higher, since according to our calculations, the “car area” here is 7.373 m2. The initial version costs 376,000 rubles - it turns out that the "Japanese rebranding" Grants costs just over 40,000.

Seventh and sixth place divided by two "brothers" originally from Korea, built on the same platform - Hyundai solaris and Kia riocollected in St. Petersburg. Rio is longer than Solaris, but by only 2 mm, their lengths are 4377 mm and 4375 mm, respectively. And the widths of the "brothers" completely coincide and equal 1700 mm. The bottom line is 7.441 m2 for Kia and 7.437 m2 for Hyundai. Solaris captivates with an interesting starting price of 509,100 rubles (albeit without an air conditioner), and Rio already costs at least 539,900 rubles.

Closest competitor Rio and Solaris - a project of German engineers, created specifically for India, and at the same time for Russia - Volkswagen polo in the back of a sedan. Polo dimensions: 4390 mm * 1699 mm \u003d 7.458 m2. And this, of course, with a slight margin - the fifth place! Polo has recently undergone a restyling and lost the sedan prefix, because the Polo hatchback was removed from the Russian market. 554,900 - so many want for the basic version of the "German".

This is the founder of the segment of budget foreign cars, which has gained fame, among other things, thanks to its impressive size. Pity that base price with the change of generations, it has grown considerably: for 429,000 rubles, a “naked” car is offered, even without a power steering.
Third place the widest one on our list is Citroen C-Elysee / Peugeot 301. I hope you will forgive us for combining two "French" in one position, because they are identical in size. The width of the cars is 1748 mm, the length is 4427 mm, the "area" is 7.738 m2. Despite their impressive dimensions, they are bought badly: the combination of a high price (599,900 rubles) and a frivolous 1.2-liter engine with 72 hp affects. 115-strong Citroens cost from 776 400 rubles at all, which puts an end to sales.

AND in second place - entering the market in just over two months Lada Vesta... We decided to include it in the review, since there are already ready-made cars that are being tested with might and main. The largest sedan ever produced at AVTOVAZ under its own brand: 4,410 mm in length and 1,764 mm in width, so the "area" is 7,779 square meters. Due to the greater width, Vesta managed to get ahead of the French duo. We cannot name the price yet - it has not been announced yet.
